Why do women dress indecently?
-
As Salaamu Alaika farida,
Please start another thread on this topic if you like and I will see if I can discuss it with you and any one else that wishes to join it. I don't want to hijack this thread away from it's discussion.
As Salaamu Alaikum, )
As Salaamu Alaikum IQO,
I see this surah differently, in my opinion surah 81 is dealing with the present era (approaching hour) when drastic changes will occur from space to earth. At one stage it talks about the camel being abandoned which is happening now; who cares about a camel when you have cars.
Regarding the literal meaning of verses 8-9, there is no mention of of an infant girl And when/if the buried alive was asked/questioned And when/if the buried alive was asked/questioned?For what crime was she killed? This I believe is about this time, when women will get the rights of redress.
The Qur?an gave women their rights, and during the time of the prophet women were known to speak up for and protect these rights. But with the male, draconian interpretation of the Quran and the distortive input from Hadith, their voice was suppressed and their privileges were buried alive.
I would welcome your input here.
Best regards -
IQO, where did i say polygamy is abuse ?
As a matter of fact i would not accept it for myself, but if other women do so with a free choice, why not. To each her own. IMO even if one accepts the existence of polygamy in quran, it does not mean one has to accept it personally. It's an existing possibility. For the rest, people are people, and abuse will occur / or not and will not depend on monogamy or polygamy.

Peace. I never fail to be astounded by the worsening indecency of women. Anyone can explain why women feel the need to expose consciously and unconsciously, deliberately or not their bodies, by wearing skin-tight clothes which when worn at night would give the silhouette of a nude woman, short skirts, chest and belly revealing outfits, waist exposing jeans that reveal underwear and part of the buttocks, etc? At the beach, the situation is even worse.
Maybe when men stop drooling over sexy women then they will stop doing so in order to attract us ...

...i think it's a mixture of many factors, the main one though i think is showing that they can do what they want.(when they don't know what they want they follow those who are happy/rich/popular with what they got)
some women tend to be very revengeful(feminism aids this cause)
being them more copycats than men, end up copying what's the latest trend.(the nwo mind conditioning programs and materialism worship teaching aid this cause)
also has to do with a way to get self esteem the easy way(I've heard it). which it wears off and they need more, becoming showoff addicts(I've seen it) .(vanity aids this cause)
and many more(i don't want to rant about)they become a turn off. disgusting.
peace all

this reminds me....
i have a friend who is a conservative christian, and heck, he enjoys looking at women. he often complains about my hijab and long sleeves, then turn around and criticizes women who dress to get sexual attention.
we went to a party the other week- i was wearing a fitted, sparkly, modest top and flared jeans and hijab. he said "what the heck are you going to a party dressed like that for?" when we got to the party it was a sea of young women almost naked, bumping and grinding, and after a few minutes he had to excuse himself, it was too much. i danced, he danced, we had fun in the end, and he didn't criticize my dress for the rest of the evening.

Salam,
Respectfully. Here's a thought is it possible that a woman is dressing the way she is because of a man? Because today's man (year 2007) has become half machine, half human, he works 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, gets interests, some even gamble to 4douple their "income" and then come home to find their wife
a) in bed with someone else,
b) depressed and quiet,
c) gone to Peru to "think",
d) gone to Italy to find sequel to Fabio,
e) died of loneliness,
f) ....Women put on make up, short dresses, high heels and whatnot to ..... well, i will let sisters continue and finish this thought because i'm not a woman.
Sisters, if you please, will all due respect.
Peace.

Yes, there may be many factors, but I think there are some that are most powerful. In a much earlier post I said this
"Why did women wear bustles, and have half or more of their bossom jumping out, or were made breathless their whole life within tight corsets in centuries past, or made to walk on stakelike heels damned their backs... why. "
I could have added many other pieces of dress equally uncomfortable or "suggestive", but I do not know the names, which go back centuries. I do not think the reasons have changed much, so why are women made to dress in ways that do not suit them, and why do they accept or suffer to dress that way. Back then and now.
Asperin and others have given lack of self esteem. I agree with that and I would say that it is the main factor. When women accept to dress uncomfortably+suggestively I think that it is wither of two
-
Lack of self-esteeem (greatest part).
-
Only way, or fastest way or more feasible way to "get ahead" (lesser part).
The feminist thing is out of the questionas far as dressing indecently or uncomfortably. Feminists wouldn't do that to "please" and they wouldn't sacrifice comfort to please. Ambitious women who want to get ahead would do it. Brainless girls or women might do it thinking they are affirming themselves and that "feminism" must be something like that, without having having really thgought through what they do or why they do it.
I would ask why women in such numbers lack self-esteem.

Salaams ayani,
Glad to hear that you dress decently. angel Just hope your dancing wasn't of the bumping and grinding sort that you described here of the others. o &
Sounds to me like you need to be asking the single men on here who is ready for marriage so you don't have to go out with Christian dudes to parties where half naked women and bumping and grinding is going on.
Please don't take this wrong, Im not judging you. You sound sincere from the few posts that I have read of yours. May Allah continue to guide you. angel

So I was wondering...
Is there anything prohibiting the wearing of skin tight clothes? Somehow I wish God specified it...lol.
Saw a chick today with enormous breasts, with a skin tight shirt (though not transparent of course) but even the nipple area was so evident and obviously protruding.
She covered her bosoms, right? Of course, but I was thinking to myself, what difference does it make really?
Then we can refer to the verse that tells women (and men) to dress modestly.
I think it all comes down to what you believe in your heard is and isn't modest. As a general statement I don't think the girl thought it was modest, but I don't think she was a submitter either.

Peace,
Respectfully.I blame the enviroment. If you're living in Egypt, obviously, every teenager will grow in the country where everyone will tell her/him how to dress.
I live in London where the enviroment tells teenagers how tod ress, what to eat, drink and watch. It also tells them what to believe.Maybe we should start asking those women that you say dress indecently, why do they dress that way? maybe they dress thatw ay because they get no attention from men and when they dress that way, they get the attention from wrong kind of men and the situation worsens because they send the wrong signals to the wrong kind of men.
A guy is walking down the Oxford street and sees this woman dressed like she is prepared for a tummy operation. Of course, he will look at her belly and she will say"hey, i go to college, why don't you ask me some stuff?" He'll answer"I didn't read that on your chest. Your chest don't say i'm visitng Harvard. It says, let's paaaaarrrtyyyyyyy, does it not?"
But needless to say, there are women who dress humbly and they are not Muslims. I've seen plenty of women here who don't even know The Truth, yet, they have Logic turned on and it works.
AlhamdilAllah.Peace.

I do not think men should be telling women how to dress. I went down to the laundry in boxers and a shirt, was it indecent? I don't think so, but those who will stare will stare because you cannot cater to the opinions and tastes of all the people. Similarly I've seen chicks in boxers and a shirt (wife-beater), but it's not really a sexy thing. Do you know men here in America feel that women that wear sports jerseys are sexy? hahahaha

I think it is inappropriate. Attention seeking if you ask me. To seek attention from men and envy from women.
As a girl myself, I would hate to bring up children to believe that this is how society should be. I wouldn't be surprise if it gets worse. Shorter skirts. More cleavage.
Western culture treats the woman's body as a sex object that should be flaunted. Whereas strict 'Islamic' countries also treat the woman's body (and some also the face) as sexual and should be completely covered up.
Can't we have a society where women just dress modestly as God told us? And where men respect women, and their bodies, and subdue their eyes as God told us?It isn't just women though. How about topless men with low rise shorts. Or speedos! Maybe thats something the males here can answer.

Where anybody, either person or group considers a woman or women as a good, in the same way as a car or a house, she will be used to pander to mens vanity and delusions. The more vain the men the more women will be used as a show of their status, wealth, standing, might or whatever. The choice of undressing or of overdressing them will de depend on their possibilities and their compulsions. Honest to go God women should ran away from being used for such and ignoble purpose either complying with exigencies of "religious" authorities, fashion dictators, peer pressure or soncial or psychological pressure. Today in the wast everything and from a very early age sexuality is pushed down our throats as if it was something we needed like breathing. That makes for a lot of unwarranted complications and mental waste. But the children who grow up do not know, and it is difficult to swim against the overwhelming current of oversexing everything in life.

Hmm that is true. Men's power is one reason for this. Some men want to use women however they like, mostly as slaves, both in housework and sex.
Women should shouldn't conform to how others want them to dress. Except God. Tough some non-muslims find God's words too restricting in their dress code, it is in fact the ideal for women who do not want to be stared at indecently.
By God's words, I mean to dress modestly, not as how traditional muslims define it.
About the children, I remember once at school, I was at a dance class and a girl in year 11 bent down and I could see her lacey g-string! I didn't know what a thong was until I heard the thong song! lol -

Whoopsie! I meant year 7! So she was 12 years old! And a very tiny 12 year old. You would think she was 8!

I always wondered why chicks wear g-stings. They seem uncomfortable. I mean it hardly covers anything they should probably go commando which I'd think be cleaner than having a string riding your crack.
Sometimes people may seem attention grabbing with something that looks sexy, but people are sexy. Sometimes we just like to wear nice things, that we like, not because we want to flaunt or cater to the desires of others.
