So the bible is from God? Please tell me you're joking...

The Torah, Gospel and Quran are from God. The Talmud, Bible and Hadith are from men who weren't satisfied with God's books.

    -M

The Gospel is part of the bible.

So then the bible is not the word of God. God's words happen to be mixed in with falsehood.

There are a lot of falsehoods in the bible, it has been changed, bits added, bits taken away, throughout history.

That is true too. Not much different from the old testament, it was all written many years after Moses

It is the husband that divorces. He is not DIVORCED. Wife can seek divorce, which is to be given by the husband.

That's not true. Divorce is given by a panel of mediators/judges. This is according to the qur'aan of course. Each of them is divorcing the other

                                He is not DIVORCED

This is pure language that does not reflect the reality. In the following verse, it's clear that the wife has the right to divorce her "nashez" husband, and that's why thre's no blame on the "two mediators" if they make peace between them
                                4128

If a woman feareth ill treatment from her husband, or desertion, it is no sin for them if they make terms of peace between them. Peace is better. But greed hath been made present in the minds (of men). If ye do good and keep from evil, lo! Allah is ever Informed of what ye do
In the following two verses, although the subject seems to be "husbands who die and leave wives behind", it ends there withregard to husbands and the actual subjet of the verse is "widows". It does not say "wives whose husbands die".
                                2240

(In the case of) those of you who are about to die and leave behind them wives, they should bequeath unto their wives a provision for the year without turning them out, but if they go out (of their own accord) there is no sin for you in that which they do of themselves within their rights. Allah is Mighty, Wise.
                                2234
                                Show in context

Such of you as die and leave behind them wives, they (the wives) shall wait, keeping themselves apart, four months and ten days. And when they reach the term (prescribed for them) then there is no sin for you in aught that they may do with themselves in decency. Allah is informed of what ye do.

There's nothing to be done for widowers and divorcing men by their ex wives. That's why "women who die leaving husbands behind" and "divorcing women" do not appear in the qur'aan.

                                  peace Samia, all,

I am coming to a different understanding of divorce in AQ. It is still early days, but I will post it. If a woman divorces then she may have to give up her dower or part of it, or this becomes a possibility (portion decided by court if disputed between the couple). If a man divorces, then the wife does not need to give up any or part of her dower, unless she agrees, and portion decided by her. Is there anything in AQ that goes against this understanding? To me, not only does this seem to fit with AQ, it also provides a safeguard for men who give a woman a dower for marriage, but the woman is a gold-digger type and simply wanted his money then divorce him after without a valid reason etc. Further, if we read this understanding into 4127-130 it makes perfect sense, in fact, it seems to be the only logical option that fits.

                                          peace Samia, all,

                                          Salaam Wakas
Sorry for the belated response. I forgot that I posted on this thread ;D

                                          I read verse 4128 as a continuation/completion for verse 434

                                          434

As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (Next), refuse to share their beds, and "adribuhunna" but if they return to obedience, seek not against them Means (of annoyance) For Allah is Most High, great (above you all).
                                          4128

If a wife fears cruelty or desertion on her husband's part, there is no blame on the two (the mediators) if they arrange an amicable settlement between them; and such settlement is best; even though selves/souls are swayed by greed. But if ye do good and practise self-restraint, Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do.

In my understanding this is the lower limit of asking for divorce fearing the effect of arrogance or cruelty. In this case, both husband and wives are commanded to take the matter up to authorities (mediators) who will try to either reconcile them o divorce them.

The upper limit is represented in verse 246-9 that applies to both husbands and wives. In it, again, neither of them can take the matter in their hands. They have, again, to take it to authorities

                                          246

                                          And for those who launch a charge against their spouses, and have (in support) no evidence but their own,- their solitary evidence (can be received) if they bear witness four times (with an oath) by Allah that they are solemnly telling the truth;

What verse says that a woman can give back to the man the "ajr" he paid in order to get a divorce?
