Salaamun alaykum Thank you so much to Sister Samia and Bro Arnold for their prompt response to my request for help Re6931 . I was aware that Sallu with the Root Sad Lam Wau but could not find it in Lane , as I did not think of looking at Sad Lam Ya . What threw me off in the first , was the Translated Meaning ....as by now I am familiar wit all the known meanings of this word. My own understanding of this verse is that ,' Allah is committed to send certain people to Hell ' so I was looking for the usual meaning of Salluhu as per The Root . Peace, Thanks for that warner. Though I may want to contend the Arabicness of some of those words with the scholars that claim that they came from Aramaic/Hebrew or Ethiopic/Early South Arabic (which are so close to Arabic at times it is really hard to tell which came from which or if they all come from a similar origin). I also do not agree with the Aramaic sense of an Arabic word derived from Aramaic being taken into consideration when studying the Arabic. Except for words like Injeel or Torah which because of religious ties would have maintained their tie with the original languages they came from. (Christians and Jews of that time would refer to Aramaic/greek to define the Arabic Chrisitan/Jewish words they would use) However, the spirit of what that article says is very right. Those examples that you gave for words such as qirtaas, jund and etc are excellent examples of how even Old Classical Arabic borrowed from neighboring languages and Arabicized these words. Once Arabicized they are fully Arabic (even in the divergent meaning it might take) despite the fact that their origins may have come from other languages and the roots later derivations of these borrowed words. Also the mistaken wave of though about the Arabic-only-origin of all Quranic words is very true about Arab linguistic thought. I've seen some old tafseers like you pointed out that openly admit to the foreing origin of Arabic words. But even in this one needs to take caution becaue just because one thinks his language is new or sees similarities in his language with another doesn't necessarily imply clear origin. Which is some of the mistakes I think those old scholars make. And new scholars when comparing Arabic with Aramaic or Ethiopic. Godbless, Anwar

Salam Everyone, It is my understanding that you are all "right," and you are all "wrong." This is the beauty of the Glorious Quran! The book is about everything you think it is about all at the same time. Muhammad was a man and it is also an exalted level that we ourselves hope to achieve. The book is about history, our development as human beings as a group, and the different spiritual levels we attain as we learn and grow. The Quran is so complex and fascinating that there are infinite stories and lessons being told for us to learn all at once. This may be one of the reasons why reading it daily is so very important. It is a living book and each time you come away with a different understanding. Usually there are multiple understandings that are all correct at once. This is much like Quantum physics. One word can mean many different things in arabic.This maybe why these ancient languages are used in holy texts. Brother Ahmad ... could you please tell me what is the Literal Meaning of "Ya ayyuhal ladziina aamanu " ? as some Ulama told me that it means " O' You Who are Secure in Knowledge of God " . Salaam nerspi and all to the male, a portion equal to that of two females... why should the male get as much as two females? The verse actually says to the male a portion equal to that of the two females... To my understanding, the verse discusses the protion of the male (s) when there are one, two or more females. The portion of the female is the constant and the male's is the variable (dependant on the number of the females).

Peace be upon you, The word "muslim" means "one who is at peace/peaceful".....anyone who manifests that nature is described as "muslim". This word has been taken out of context and made a Title...It is not a title but a relative description...which is why the God warns "do not die except as a muslim"....meaning that we go in and out of this state relative to our behavior. No matter what title one gives oneself or others, they can still be "muslim".

Peace Rifat, In my personal opinion, it is healthy to doubt, because that will cause you to verify things and gain more knowledge. Where you'll end up... only The God knows where. About your questions lewdness and being a believer... I would say that the answers to those questions would be very personal to you. But the main idea on how to find the answers are still the same -- reflect upon yourselves of what you read from the qur'an to your life experiences. For example, "taqwa". I don't know how you understand this word currently, but I understand it more of "being aware/conscious of <something>" rather than "being righteous". Thus, 22 for me is talking about those who are aware, and only through this awareness they can gain guidance. So to avoid "lewdness" for example, I just try to be aware when I am in lewd-mode ;D (what triggerred it, what have I done during this lewd-mode, is it beneficial to me, etc). Reflect on these questions while reading the qur'an, I'll get my answers regarding "how to avoid lewdness". As for "believer", I understand it more of those who can uphold the trust/"amanah" given to them, not just those who believe in something. Surah 70 and 90 for example, contain something about the "what" and "how to" of this question. =adley=

Which is a neverending contest as nobody can experience they are right or wrong. I hope everybody will eventually will join the contest of being the best uniter and peacekeeper....
