Salaam Aleikum, I believe Fear of Allah is explained throught he word Taqwa. I will quote Toshihiko Izutsu in his remarkable work 'God and Man in the Quran'. Page 235 "Al-Tibrizi in his commentary on Diwan Al-Hamasah which runs Ittaqa means you place between yourself (A) and something you are afraid of (B), something (C) which might protect you by preventing it (B) from reaching you."In short, it means self-defence by means of something. The general situation is this A man (A) perceives something (B) coming towrds him, which looks dangerous, destructive, or atleast harmful. He does not like it to reach him, he must stop it before it reaches him and does harm to him. So he puts between himself and the thing (B) something (C) which is strong enough to stop its uncoming." B-----------> C <---A Allah calls Himself Ghafoor, meaning Helmet/Harnas, He protects us by giving us the Revelation that guides us to the right behaviour. Also He says He is Maliki-YauwmeDeen, the Supreme Lawmaker and Implyer of these Laws of judging Cause and Effect in our existence. Thus the Fear of Allah refers to that we must seriously fear the consequences of our deeds which will come back to us. So fearing Allah is taking the Law of Requital very serious. Most people don't believe in YauwmeDeen, the Constant Law of Requital. They don't fear it, and thus they don't fear He who has made this Divine Law. We must protect ourselves (A) from the consequences of our wrong deeds (B) through the will of protecting ourselves, which thus means following the Quran (C), which teaches us how to act correctly in Reality. So fearing Allah is taking His Law of Requital seriously, and thus study His Revelation closely, and follow His Divine Laws of Nature and Revelation closely (salat) so we are protected against any consequence of wrong deeds we learn how to avoid. 3175 It is only that which is farthest from Truth (shaat=long rope=shaitan=something distanced from Allah), that would instill into you fear of its protectors. So, fear not its protectors, but Fear Me (As My Will is expressed in the Law of Requital, return of Good or Bad deeds, which you cannot avoid and which I have determined its setting) if you are indeed those who are convinced (of the Truth)!

Peace Supernaut, I might be wrong, but as far as I know, there is no mention of who comprised the "army" of muhammad besides believers. Now what that translates to in modern times is debatable, since there is no muslim country and hence no muslim army to speak of. Peace, Tay

Talut is a khalifa /vicegerent, as in 230. He was chosen by Allah, as in 230. I disagree. Dawood has been explicitly mentioned as a "khalifa fil ard", where Allah also addresses the question(230) asked by the malaika. ( 3826-28 ) So 230 has more in common with 3826-28, than with 2247.

No I tend to think that he could visualize the Quran as a whole... there were no para-Quranic revelations in my view. There is plenty of evidence within the Quran itself that it was compiled in the time of the exalted prophet. Also, writing by professional scribes was common in those days... moreover, I think that if the exalted prophet wrote the Quran on parchment himself, it would have been taken as an idol for sure. So perhaps this was a very strategic and thoughtful move by the great prophet.

Salaams Brother Damon, The word heifer is Baqra which is also the title for sura two - i think we should look at what the whole sura two is about to get a picture of what the meaning of the word is. might surprise some of us-is it talking about the animal or not. trying to better myself and correct my behaviour, This is what I have said the translation is talking about to better our bahaviours. And the calf well that is another one of their stories -i think. Using Burhans you see they translate AAJILA as hasten and in some places its translated as a calf. I don?t believe it is a calf but that is a biblical story embodied in the translation. I think The Israelites believed in The God and not calfs. I might do the calf aya?s one day though. Gods Blessings.

Salam. Is there a difference between a sworn statement and a promise, brother a_o_k? I mean, i think that sworn statement is just like a promise except a little bigger, strict and you both have to keep them. What is the punishment if i swear that i will do something and then i don't? Peace.

Peace all, Well explained, Tanveer. ) Salaam all I definitely do not think the quraan would allude to women (wives) as ewes! What a disaster! I agree. I mean I know there's symbolism, but that would be ridiculous. Salaams Zenje, Yes according to what we need - it is sufficient , i believe also. Thanks. Gods Blessings on you. Thank you and Peace be with you too. handshake

2278 is very clear that Abraham was the first Muslim. 2278 You shall strive for the cause of GOD as you should strive for His cause. He has chosen you and has placed no hardship on you in practicing your religion - the religion of your father Abraham. He is the one who named you "Submitters" (Muslims) originally. Thus, the messenger shall serve as a witness among you, and you shall serve as witnesses among the people. Therefore, you shall observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat), and hold fast to GOD; He is your Lord, the best Lord and the best Supporter. Wa Jhid F Allhi aqqa Jihdihi Huwa Ajtabkum Wa M Jaala Alaykum F Ad-Dni Min arajin Millata 'Abkum 'Ibrhma Huwa Sammkum Al-Muslimyna Min Qablu Wa F Hdh Liyakna Ar-Raslu Shahdan Alaykum Wa Takn Shuhad'a Ala? An-Nsi Fa'aqm A-alata Wa 't Az-Zakata Wa Ataim Billhi Huwa Mawlkum Fanima Al-Mawla? Wa Ni`ma An-Naru This religion is also called Millath-e-Ibrahim which means Religion of our Father Abraham. Adam was the first submitter of the spiritual religion of submitting to God. Abraham was the first submitter of the physical religion Islam. Salaam

Salaam The interpretation given by Nun de plume for verse 411 is the clasical interpretation, which did not take into consideration the difference between (the male's share is as that of two/ the two females). In the verse, it is (the two) and not (two). The difference is that the latter will lead to the classical understanding, where the former (the two) is precise if among the children there are two females. Unother point is that this verse deals with the case where there are children of mixed gender (awladikum). The third point is that the focus is the share of the female. Without deciding the number of fmales, we cannot decide the share of the male (for the male twice the share of the two females). The verse then continues with other numbers If t was one; and if they were more than two (three and above). My understnding is thus (no matter who dies father or mother) Father 25% Or mother 12.5% Two girls 50% One girl 50% More than two 66.66% The rest goes to the male/males. As this is not what's applicable, the judge will distribute the above mentioned inheritence in this way Mother 125 derham daughter 291.66 son583.33 whereas the daughter should have equal share to the son (..and if she was one, she gets half of what they left)

Peace sikes may be you could develop on your question ? What exactely do you mean ? Problem is If you read a lot on this forum, you'll find out that even people with good knowledge of arabic, be it because it is their motherlanguage or because they studied it, do often not come to the same conclusion about the meaning of words and verses. When someone learns arabic, one might just learn the predominant interpretation. Many students here use the root method, others contest this method... so this is a difficult question indeed. Then there is another debate about the litteral or symbolical interpretation of the quran, which doesn't make it any easier. Now, this is not really an answer, sorry for that, but it might just give u a climpse of the many aspects of your question... Elke Actually the uncommon words in the Quran that I found them difficult are very miunte for me, possibly not more than 20 words, like Hoor Ein for example, but that is a description of something that we never seen before hence the confusion Salam

Anyway, I have found the answer from a Christian. He said that according to the book of Exodus, the reason was because the Canaanites were a wicked people. However, this leads me to another doubt. Is the Bible sometimes necessary to explain certain events mentioned in Al Quran?

i think maxq's explanation makes perfect sense. "owleeia" is plural of "Walee" which means protector , someone whom we take as a guide to lead a certain way of life, i am quite sure of it, as this word is frequently used in Urdu. (borrowed from Arabic) in 60-9 the word "owleea" is not used , hence that ayah means something else maxq ,,, good job. bravo sikandar

The quran makes it clear that there are 2 kinds of people among the disbeliveers the ordinary people, and the leaders. The leaders mislead the ordinary people, and the ordinary people let themselves be misled by the leaders. The leaders have created idols (like allat, manat, and al uzza) to consolidate their power over people. These idea is confirmed by the book NonZero, by Robert Wright Chiefs actually didn't serve the public; they duped the public into serving them, and religion was part of the duping. As one archaeologist puts it, "Chiefs coopt the religious authority of the community for themselves." http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=10761.msg93521#msg93521 Peace
