peace thank you samia for those words, i hope it is accepted. and i wasn't really trying to change the meaning, just wanted to see if i can adjust it because i'm asking for guidence and i serve God (if i'm alone) but if i'm in a mosque or something i would say it the way it is. but alright, i won't change anything.

An intresting debate, i would vote for brother Ahmed's understanding of yousaf's charge. yousaf was not prisoned for adultery , but probably for an attempted rape.(could that be the punishment for a rape or an attempted rape?) i am still confused about cutting the hand/marking /cut off resources of thief etc , nobody has a satisfactory explanation,especially when in 5-33 God is commanding us to consider severing the hand and a foot of the people who commit horrendous crimes , as one of the option???? i think this requires more work. sikandar Hello Actually, it seems both parties have valid point, I lean to agree that he was not improsined for adultry but possibly the women conspired with the governor wife to put him in jail, this was after they cut their hands, Logically speaking he can't be accused of anything in the first incident when his shirt was ripped by the governor wife, because when an expert witness testified about where the shirt was ripped, it clearly proved Yusuf innocence, the governor even confirmed his wife mistake, later on when the rumour started to circulate in town, the governor wife made her plot to bring those women who talk about her love to Yusuf and let them see Yusuf so she may be excused, in this second event I believe it caused his charges, I guess cutting their hands might have been used somehow, at the end of the day we dont really need to know the charges because the Quran never mentioned it, but we know that it was his request from Allah to be jailed and Allah made it true for him and we also know that he was a great prophet who was never involved in any ill conduct. Regarding cutting off the hands of thieves, I was actually a believer that the hand of thieves must be cut off, then I stumbled into Joe proposition for 538-39 about 3 years ago which was very convincing due to the fact mentioned in 539 that if they repent and do good then Allah will forgive them, so I started promoting his understanding. Later on as I read in the Quran, I found that taking it as cutting resources may cause a few contradictions regarding the word "Qataa", so i did further studies and truly believe in a revised understanding that use the word literally as cut off but at the same time the hands will not be cut off under a couple of conditions that must be met, in a way it is about showing compassion and giving the thief a chance to repent and do good without cutting off the hands but if the thief insists on stealing then the hand must be cut off. This is not my wishful thinking, in fact it is very logical if we consider the other severe punishment regarding adultery which is 100 lashes in public, the same verse ordered us "NOT TO SHOW COMPASSION" when we punish the adulterers therefore there is nothing that can't stop us from showing compassion to the thieves by giving them a chance to repent and do good and if they do then everyone is happy and Allah will forgive them as 539 told us, most importantly they can blend in the society again normally this is because no hand is cut, but if they don't then they have to lose their hand because it has been proven that they are malice thieves. This is what I settled on regarding the punishment for theft in the Quran and I do feel very comfortable with it Allah knows best Salam

Peace Warner, I 100% agree, but it doesn't really fit with our discussion does it? Because if the dictionaries would be completely influenced by Hadith, then why can I bring a non-miracle interpretation in the picture with only using the Lexicons, cross-reference and without a pre-conceived interpretation? Hadith were created by people who believed in miracles. So this is why must hold on to the guidelines of the Quran to get the best full picture. We only differ on one subject, and this is normal. Like you said before, it forces to express our understandings every time on a higher level and let it evolve or be improved or changed. The most important thing is that we do not condemn each other and accusse one side for 'twisting' as this has to do with approach of definitions, not with the Arabic itself. In the end, the stories of the Prophets are only one little piece inside the puzzle of the Quranic System, I believe we mostly agree on the Quranic system, so we must not fight over such little pieces as this. I have learned to express my thoughts better and better through these discussions and also learned that it is more about world-view then on 'who is right'. So I thank you for your posts and you do not need to say sorry as you only asked questions, which must always be possible. We may not agree, but I do hope that I have explained my view in the best way.

I read this on another forum... thought id bring it over see what you guys all think... I have the following questions regarding the creation of Adam and Eve that is mentioned in Surah 2. What does the word "names" occurring in these 230 refer to? God asked both the angels and Adam to name those things whereas He hadn?t taught the angels. How could the angels know the "names" since they were kept in darkness? Testing angels implies that, like human beings, they too have freedom of argument, choice, and action. Then what?s the difference between angels and human beings apart from the fact that they are made from different material? Why was Adam first sent to Paradise when he could have been sent directly to earth? Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, means by the names of Allah Mercifull and Belevolent. Names translated form ismun, or in English called as "ism" an idiology or teachings.

Peace all, The context of 4449 is obviously the sinful. Let me add this criteria too we need an example where the context does not mention any category of people, similar to 801-10.

During a discussion with Christians in another forum I made a personal assumption that human's heart is naturally good which surprised them because they said the Bible proves otherwise. So Im wondering what does Al Quran say about this issue? Is human's heart inherently evil or good? Here is what the Quran says about humans (not the heart alone) 1434 The human is indeed transgressing, disbelieving. 428 God wants to make easy for you; and mankind was created weak. Good humans are the exception, rather than the rule 1032 The human is indeed in loss. 1033 Except those who believe, do good works, support one another with the truth, and support one another with perseverance.

Thanks Ahmed, that helped. Then do you know why there are some cases in Quran where men and women are addressed separately one after the other? Peace Salam I have to say that it has to be specific to gender then for example, if we are talking about puting scarfs on the head then the group addressed has to be female believers etc Salam

No brother, please don't assume things I actually agree with your interpreation of this verse... not only does it go to the extent of the baby being born, this is talking of the entire line generations to come... It's like one big simulation with advanced lookup. Salam It seems that you think the verse only means that Allah knows the sex of what is inside the Arham while this is one thing Allah knows however the verse may also means that Allah knows everything that will happen to the baby, being a good huy or a bad guy, being rich or poor, being a believer or not etc etc, the verse means that Allah knows everything about the baby including its future Salam

if people are interested in the meaning of the names as opposed to the historicity of the claims to such names then i would suggest they continue against the onslaught of naysayers there is a difference between the chosen people and the people who call themselves the chosen people ever stop to think that maybe the so called "names" are different sounds with different roots in order to make the message applicable to the people to whom it is delivered? perhaps the attributes of the personalities which are meant to shine through as an example are not the same for every community, as each community has its specific needs.

your example isnt sufficient since urdu is an indo-aryan language and arabic is a semitic one. however, it's not very crucial... when you find a proper name of non-arabic origin does it seem natural to most people to check out their meaning in that very non-arabic language but you clearly wanna take the arabic detour and i dont see the point S Salaams Aziz, av-raham and Ibrahim saying them out loud ? sorry they sound different may be to embody the new meaning. yisha'-El and Ishmael again sound totally different and if you don't agree ask anybody on any street corner.
