Perhaps this passage, and the passage in the Quran, are tied to an incident where a murder victim was found between towns, and they argued over who was guilty of the death. My question is what would happen if the elders of the closest town lied? Maybe something happened where the elders lied under the oath of the slain heifer, and God brought the person back to life to testify against them. Other than that, I've got nothing. ) Peace, Joel

I dont know how you got that idea. In the article, part 1 analyses the occurrences of DRB in detail. It seems that the default meaning of DRB is "to put/show forth (from one person/place to another person/place)". This core meaning fits into every occurrence, and thus could be seen as its basic/core meaning. Lane's Lexicon states that its meaning is "to put into commotion" which is similar. Of course, with various prepositions and subject matter, this basic meaning can be refined and better rendered depending on situation.

( &#1614 46. lol..a big fence Muhammad Asad, whom i like a lot, doesn't derive the name a3raf from a big fence like traditional sources, but has this to say The term al-a'raf (which gave to this surah its title) occurs in the Qur'an only twice - namely, in the above verse and in verse 48. It is the plural of 'urf, which primarily denotes "acknowledgement" or "discernment", and is also used to denote the highest, or most elevated, part of anything (because it is most easily discerned) for instance, the 'urf of a cock is the coxcomb, that of a horse its mane, and so forth. On the basis of this idiomatic usage, many commentators assume that the a'raf referred to here are "elevated places", like the heights ofa wall or its ramparts, and identify it with the "barrier" (hijab) mentioned at the end of the preceding sentence. A far more likely interpretation, however, is forthcoming from the primary significance of the word 'urf and its plural a'raf namely, "discernment" and "the faculty of discernment", respectively. This interpretation has been adopted by some of the great, early commentators of the Qur'an, like Al-Hasan al-Bagff and Az-Zajjaj, whose views Razi quotes with evident approval. They state emphatically that the expression 'ala 'l-a'raf is synonymous with 'ala ma'rifah, that is, "possessing knowledge" or "endowed with the faculty of discernment" (i.e., between right and wrong); and that the persons thus described are those who in their lifetime were able to discern between right and wrong ("recognizing each by its mark&quot, but did not definitely incline to either in brief, the indifferent ones. Their lukewarm attitude has prevented them from doing either much good or much wrong - with the result that, as the next sentence shows, they deserve neither paradise nor hell. (Several Traditions to this effect are quoted by Tabari as well as by Ibn Kathir in their commentaries on this verse.) - The noun rijal (lit., "men&quot at the beginning of the next sentence as well as in verse 48 obviously denotes "persons" of both sexes.

Peace be upon you, Actions speak louder than words....you are what you DO, not what you call yourself. The most important task is to always guarding your MIND from wicked thoughts(shayteen) and always programming(salaat) your MIND(nafs) with the proper thoughts....this is what brings betterment, and those who always strive to improve their behavior are your real brothers and sisters in God's system/order(deen), no matter what you call it. If one were to service a machine, by simply doing one small positive act, such as oiling a cogwheel (i.e a component of the machine), then whilst the act was done on only one part of the machine, it would be true to say that one served the whole of it. This observation holds, no matter how many components the machine has, be it ten or billions. I believe in this, lies the foundation to understanding the concept of serviing (ibadat) The God, as expressed in 'the reading' (al qur'an), i.e. you get what you put forth, so if you serve something greater than oneself, the whole, you will receive the whole in return, The God. Allah said Didnt you know that such and such servant of Mine asked food from you but you did not feed him, and were you not aware that if you had fed him you would have found him by My side? Peace be upon you, None knows their meaning but God....and one day you must come to know that you are God. We are Divine Beings. We are God's, and to God's we are returning. We are Divine in potential, the same way a brand new baby has the potential for Calculus and Trigonometry, so is the humans divine potential. It must be nurtured! and that is what "religion" (tying back) is all about. It is behavior shaping so we can manifest a Divine response in life. There is no part of a message from God that is useless and that we are not meant to understand. If you think so then you might as well cut those parts out.

If I'm my own boss, am I being shirky too? It's good to be conscious, but please balance it with a strong faith that you can change things with all the God-given tools you have. How about first change your perception--this world is not cruel (it's just our collective mirror image at any given time). Unless you're cruel.

The problem with these endless debates its the assumption is somehow established that there is a "way to pray". Maybe there is no way to pray. Maybe God can accept many ways to pray as long as it adheres to the guidleines laid out in the Koran. It just seems very far fetched to me that not only the Koran but even the previous scriptures never talked about "how to pray" at least not by Rika and so on. people bowed, prostarted, kneeled but all in reverence. They shouldn't be dirty and they should be concentrating and should be consistent in it. Hows that. Aren't there many different ways to exercise but the outcome is losing weight or do we also have a way to exercise? Some jog and some play tennis and som lift weights and some may swim. Some may diet eating only veggies, others would increase their protein intake and some might skip meals. In the end its about burning calories right? Think about that. Only Koranist of a Jewish and Muslim background dwell on this subject. This is because Judaism and Islam are deeply ritualistic and legalistic. This is probably why Paul struggled with "the law" as he was the only Pharisee among the Gospelian figures. Something you rarely see Jesus's disciples do. I myself suffered from this till I realized I had to think strategical and not always tactical.

Thanks SEid What will be distribution guideline in case the deceased man leaves behind 3 daughters (2/3rd) 1 wife (1/8th) 1 father (1/6th) 1 mother (1/6th) because the above exceeds 100% Thanks for your help Peace Patanahi, In this case ... 1 - 1/6 father - 1/6 mother - 1/8 wife = children 1 - 4/24 - 4/24 - 3/24 = 13/24 children Now we go to children and since it's only girls they get the whole 13/24; it would be exactly the same if for example there were 3 sons instead. 3 daughters (i.e. if over two) get 2/3 of remainder of the children's pie if they were mixed.

My understanding of godfearing is that, one fears the consequences of ones actions, and God is in control of everything, so "one fears God". Also the ultimate consequence of heaven and hell, which seems to be linked to fear, in the Quran. In that way, a translation of godfearing makes sense. "The godfearing are the best of people" says the Quran. However it also states that "The righteous shall have no fear". If you are righteous and have no fear, the word godfearing might mean little to you, and godconscious would seem a better alternative. Indeed even loving God, or worshipping god, which is what love of God is, would seem better. Maybe some aspect of taqwa has got lost in translation? However, it certainly NOT is an unnatural attitude to be emulated. It comes naturally. Probably from fear of heaven or hell.

My questionning leads me to the following conclusion verse 3341-44 Allah and and his malaikat yussalu 3ala al mumineen 3356 al mumineen yussalu 3ala alnabi with the goal of bringing someone from darkness to light My conclusion is SALLI 3ala means "to support " someone in the context of the definition "following someone closely" -->e.g. to be with and not to be against or to turn away as in verse 7531-32 7531 So he gave nothing in charity nor did SALLI! 7532 But on the contrary, he rejected Truth and turned away! An other interesting highlight, when looking all the verse where "SALLI" is used the context is often during war time, when the nabi needed the most support. Peace

Thank you Khalil! Based on the posts i read, it appears that Kevin D. Cooper "KDC501" agrees with me on the idea that Night of Decree occurs on Dec 21/22... However, he argues for the use of LuniSolar calendar and you support the Lunar calendar instead. As for me, I'm a little bit in between -\ simply becuase i agree on certain points with both of you. I agree with you when you say, But if we accept what you've said above, which makes sense to me, the we can conclude that the Night of Decree does NOT occur on Dec 21/22 and that the whole theory is wrong. Because if the Night of Decree occurs IN the month of Ramadan, it cannot take place during the Winter Solstice (December) while Ramadan is in August (for ex). In conclusion, if we accept the Lunar calendar theory where Ramadan moves around the four seasons by 11 or 12 days each year, we then must reject the Dec 21/22=Winter Solstice=Night of Decree theory which stays in one place every year. Dear HS, Yes, since the Night of Decree occurs only in the month of Ramadzaan, and Ramadzaan is one of the Islamic/HIJRI Lunar calendar months, then we cannot say that it happens only on December 21/22, or in any other fixed time of the Solar calendar year, year after year.
