4331 And they said "If only this Quran was sent down to a great man from the two towns!" When I read this last week, I understood it to mean instantly that the messenger was a stranger to the "two towns". That he was a non local person. It's obvious that he wasn't someone of prominence as it asks why it wasn't a great man to have received it. But why is it specific about the two towns? Does it mean it wouldnt have been sufficient to have come to someone just great but from afar? Are both conditions necessary? Great and a local. Great but foreign. Not great but local. Not great and foreign. Therefore does it mean that the messenger was neither? Please discuss. Peace, Nice catch. If you check the context--4326 on--isn't this referring to Abraham? So, The messenger isn't as 'cool'/'prominent simply by virtue of the fact that he's not Abraham?

I have just used The Quran search on the progresive site and I have looked at the hour. In the past as the suni I would look into it and think that its going to be for the whole world a t once, now I think that the hour is maybe the time of our individial death or in some instances colective. Anyone agree? Thanks

O you who have attained certainty/trust/faith! The law of equality has been prescribed for you in dealing with murder. If a free person has committed murder, that free person will face the law. If a servant has committed murder, that servant will face the law. And if a woman has committed murder, that woman will face the law. If the victim's kin pardons the guilty, the murderer must be appreciative and pay an equitable compensation to the kin in handsome gratitude. This pardon is a concession and mercy from your Lord. Whoever, after this, trespasses this law will incur a massive punishment. This verse talks about the equality of everyone in front of the law, which is advocated by God under his laws. Through this, there will, ideally, be no cases of revenge by the kin of the murdered person. This is how life is being saved. A popular and absurd interpretation of this verse is that it advocates that a woman can only be sentenced to death when she was killed a woman, a servant can only be senteced to death if he/she has killed a servant, etc. However, there are obvious problems with this interpretation, one being that a woman is both a woman and free, so, according to the popular interpretation, she should be senteced to death whether she murders a woman or any other free person, which is ignored in that interpretation. So basically this verse advocates against the "an eye for an eye" concept. The kin of the murdered person is encouraged to forgive the murderer in return for a recompense. Note that "whoever, after this, trespasses this law will incur a massive punishment", meaning that if you take revenge (going by the "an eye for an eye" principal), will incur a massive punishment. Like many I also erred while translating by not taking into account the inversion of the nominal sentence where being indefinite plural noun is the subject delayed about whom information is being given. the people of lot weren't punished because of homosexuality, read the whole chapters , they were pirates , rape and kill , they did mischief, and homosexuality was just a cherry on the cake, raping men no matter who they are , i believe nobody did that before them , as to homosexuality alone? i don't think god did a law for punishing them in the quran, he puts it with filth i guess, if they were punished for homosexuality, than allah would have put a law for punishing homosexual acts if it was that great sin, maybe it falls on adulters, maybe it's considered "illness" so it wasn't presalitycribed a punishement, of maybe the part of lot people as beign homos so we consider it one of the things allah told us to avoid , but the punushement for lot had nothing to do with homosexuality, it is clear probebly it's the bbiblical story that influenced the inderstanding of many people

There is one particular verse regarding "if you support a good cause it is as though you are a part of it & if you support an evil cause it is as though you are a part of it". Has anyone here actually read this book? If so, does it use word cross-referencing within Al Quran? From the excerpts I have seen it was poor. I read part of it... and you are right about the cross referencing... the author just tries to reconvert the arabic back to syro-aramaic in order to explain some passages... I tend to think he is right at times... regarding Hoors... he says that it means 'grapes'... does not mean that i accept it, but still an avenue to explore.. it is an interesting read... but it is bulky. There are many many terms in Quran borrowed directly from the other languages and written in arabic... such as the proper names for example... one cannot get the true meaning behind the name itself from the arabic... such as Isa... has to switch back to the syro-aramaic... just an example.
