As Salaamu Alaikum BLBaker, Nurd and nerpsi, In commenting on BLBaker's question, I will quote from nerpsi peace but even if we pray in any other lanuage, the meaning of the words is the same. so what if it's not arabic. besides, does it say in the qur'an the exact words to say during praying? mostly i found that it says to praise and glorify, but i didn't see any ayah that says while performing salat say this... how do we know what words to use? As Salaat is a formal ritual prayer ordained by Allah in Al Quran for His "Remembrance". It has several benefits for us. Allah promised to send us down guidance, and although it has come in many forms, this is the best "written" form that we have that guidance in. Allah warns us not to try to change His words as the previous peoples have done. So we pray in the original language of the revelation, which Allah has stressed many many times in Al Quran, because it maintaines the integrity of the message sent. When we translate, we lose some of the meaning, hence why this site is about re-understanding the message from it's revealed language. Which is why there will continue to be new translations until mankind is no more. If we ignored the importance of the original arabic, can you imagine how the translations would go, by trying to reinterpet past "translations"? Just look at what the Christians have now. "Dua" is something that is more common to the word "prayer" in english. Calling on Allah in this way can and should be done in the native language of the speaker, unless they have learned some "duas" in Quranic arabic and have memorized their pronunciation and meaning. During As Salaat, when we recite the Arabic ayats, we are quoting the guidance to us from Allah. I will continue to show in my posts how Allah has given us direction for what to say during As Salaat, all being contained in Al Quran. If we use english, we have changed that guidance to the understanding of the translator, and thereby left the "full" meaning of what Allah has revealed. I hope that makes some sense, insha Allah. Definitely I will check it out and respond( except if God wills "NOT", because at times it is better not knowing the truth confused, let me give an instance. We read from medical journals that few people live all their life without knowing they are missing a kidney out of a pair. But they lead a very normal and happy life to their last breath. Had they known the fact earlier, chances are there ,they would have a miserable life both mentally and physically). Sorry for posting my previous question in an inappropriate forum space. It is not requested to be performed alone, it is part of a Jummaah. Salat is following the Laws of Revelation closely, communion prayer is part of the following. The other part of Salat is to follow the Laws of Allah every second of your life.

Peace Nerspi, Salaat in traditional sense is a composite spiritual practice! Its elements are witnessing, praying, remembering, affirming, glorifying. It is a practice with symblic washing and movements. its purpose is to create a shift in consciousness to connect to our higher self and align ourselves with that wich we long to become. Other religions have their own practices to create the same function. Dua is when you compress all your focus, intention and attention on your NEED and acknowledge that and reach out for a solution! You have to ASK. from ASKING comes acknowledgement and full awareness of it.and you ASK with all sincerity that you can find in your heart from GOD to receove that. peace,

Only idols or other human beings need bowing down to , but for God we must act Salawaat = counsel House of Commons The Public Gallery is open to the public when the House is sitting, which is usually ? 14.30 - 22.30 on Mondays ? 14.30 - 22.30 on Tuesdays ? 11.30 - 19.30 on Wednesdays ? 10.30 - 18.30 on Thursdays ? 09.30 - 15.00 on sitting Fridays, To run a city or a country or war even meetings/discussions ? counsel is an integral part like above. So is there any history/ information regarding such meetings of the prophet or other people in such authorities? That is if you can?t accept Salawaat = counsel/ing. But then again there is no reason one can?t carry out a methodology for the programming of the nafs, but in that sense there are so many things one does/can do. Salaams All.

salaam there shouldn't be any issue in using beads, and we agree with adley when he implied, provided you don't depend on it to remember (zikr) Allah. there would, methink, be a big problem when one uses the beads to 'calculate' the quantum of remembrance (say 33, 333, 7,000, 70,000, etc.) we are of the understanding that there shouldn't be any limit in remembering Allah, for His grace and mercy upon us has been limitless or boundless. we should perhaps learn from the malaikat, and the animals - always sing and praise His glory, and thank Him for all the grace and mercy that He has betowed upon us. joe

Salam loli, Zakat/purification/righteousness is not a separate act from salat but a RESULT of salat and also a result of charity. Thus it is linked to both charity and salat and is their effect. When it is mentioned in context of salat (26 times) it is a result of salat, and when it is mentioned in context of charity, it is a result of charity. Salat/connection -----------> Zakat/purification/righteousness Sadaqat/infaaq/charity -----> "Aatoo" does not only mean "to give" but also means come, pursue, put forth, show, increase, produce, bring, pay. Thus "aqeemoo alssalata wa aatoo alzzakata" = "uphold/establish/observe/perform salat/connection and produce/pursue/show/bring zakat/purification/righteousness".

Well, OK, now that we have established that there is no such thing as "Friday Prayer", can someone please tell me what exactly were the 7 days of the week called in Arabia at the time of the Prophet? They had names for the months Ramadan/ Shaaban/ Muharram, etc... Didn't they have names for the days of the week too?

Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Raheem Pray at regular times, so that you remember Allah. This helps against evil. (The purpose of prayer) The quran makes several referances to established practises (by mentioning earlier prophets and their practises), as a suggestion for what to do, if that is an issue. However, it also supports freedom in prayer, and gives no hard command on how to pray. Your question deals with the later, if not adhering to these practises, one prays more personally and correctly, when you are mindful (in rememberance) of Allah.
