Transliteration Aqimi alssalata lidulooki alshshamsi ila ghasaqi allayli waqur-ana alfajri inna qur-ana alfajri kana mashhoodan
Literal Start/keep up the prayers to the sun's nearing setting to the night's darkness, and the dawn's Koran, that the dawn's Koran was/is being witnessed.
Free-Minds Thou shall hold the contact-method until the dipping of the sun; until the darkness of the night; and the Quran at dawn, the Quran at dawn has been witnessed.
Rashad Khalifa You shall observe the Contact Prayer (Salat) when the sun declines from its highest point at noon, as it moves towards sunset. You shall also observe (the recitation of) the Quran at dawn. (Reciting) the Quran at dawn is witnessed.
Yusuf Ali Establish regular prayers - at the sun's decline till the darkness of the night, and the morning prayer and reading for the prayer and reading in the morning carry their testimony.

Transliteration Wamina allayli fatahajjad bihi nafilatan laka AAasa an yabAAathaka rabbuka maqaman mahmoodan
Literal And from the night so wake up and pray with it, done above the call of duty for you, maybe/perhaps that (E) your Lord sends/resurrects you a praised/thanked position/residence .
Free-Minds And from the night you shall reflect upon it additionally for yourself, perhaps your Lord would grant you to a high rank.
Rashad Khalifa During the night, you shall meditate for extra credit, that your Lord may raise you to an honorable rank.
Yusuf Ali And pray in the small watches of the morning (it would be) an additional prayer (or spiritual profit) for thee soon will thy Lord raise thee to a Station of Praise and Glory!

Transliteration Ya ayyuha almuzzammilu
Literal You, you the hiding/wrapped in clothes.
Free-Minds O you cloaked one.
Rashad Khalifa O you cloaked one.
O thou folded in garments!

Transliteration Qumi allayla illa qaleelan
Literal Stand the night except little .
Free-Minds Stand the night except for a little.
Rashad Khalifa Meditate during the night, except rarely.
Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,-

Transliteration Nisfahu awi onqus minhu qaleelan
Literal Its half/middle or reduce/decrease from it little .
Free-Minds Half of it, or a little less than that.
Rashad Khalifa Half of it, or a little less.
Half of it,- or a little less,

Transliteration Aw zid AAalayhi warattili alqur-ana tarteelan
Literal Or increase on it, and read or recite slowly, distinctly and clearly the Koran, slow distinct and clear reading or recitation .
Free-Minds Or a little more, and arrange the Quran in its arrangement.
Rashad Khalifa Or a little more. And read the Quran from cover to cover.
Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones.

Transliteration Inna sanulqee AAalayka qawlan thaqeelan
Literal That We, We will throw (a) heavy saying/word/declaration on you.
Free-Minds We will place upon you a saying which is heavy.
Rashad Khalifa We will give you a heavy message.
Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message.

Transliteration Inna nashi-ata allayli hiya ashaddu wat-an waaqwamu qeelan
Literal That truly the night's first hours it is stronger pressure and more just (in) a saying/word/declaration .
Free-Minds The time of the night is more effective and better for study.
Rashad Khalifa The meditation at night is more effective, and more righteous.
Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise).

Transliteration Inna rabbaka yaAAlamu annaka taqoomu adna min thuluthayi allayli wanisfahu wathuluthahu wata-ifatun mina allatheena maAAaka waAllahu yuqaddiru allayla waalnnahara AAalima an lan tuhsoohu fataba AAalaykum faiqraoo ma tayassara mina alqur-ani AAalima an sayakoonu minkum marda waakharoona yadriboona fee al-ardi yabtaghoona min fadli Allahi waakharoona yuqatiloona fee sabeeli Allahi faiqraoo ma tayassara minhu waaqeemoo alssalata waatoo alzzakata waaqridoo Allaha qardan hasanan wama tuqaddimoo li-anfusikum min khayrin tajidoohu AAinda Allahi huwa khayran waaAAthama ajran waistaghfiroo Allaha inna Allaha ghafoorun raheemun
Literal That truly your Lord knows that you, you stand/call (for) prayer nearer (than) from two-thirds (of) the night and its half/middle, and its third, and a group of people from those with you, and God predestines/evaluates the night and the daytime, He knew that you (will) not count/compute it so He forgave on you, so read what eased/became flexible (what you can) from the Koran, He knew that (E) sick/diseased will be from you, and others moving (traveling) in the land/Earth wishing/desiring from God's grace/favour/blessing, and others fighting in God's way/path , so read what eased/became flexible from it (what you can), and keep up the prayers, and give/bring the charity/purification, and lend/advance God a good/ beautifulloan/advance, and what you advance/produce for yourselves from goodness/ generosity you find it at God, it is better and greater (in) a reward , and ask God for forgiveness, that truly God (is) forgiving, merciful.443
Free-Minds Your Lord knows that you rise a little less than two thirds of the night, and half of it, and one third of it, as well as a group of those who are with you. And God measures the night and the day. He knows that you will not be able to keep-up, so He pardons you. So study what is made easy of the Quran. He knows that there will be sick among you, and others that venture out in the land seeking from God's bounty, and others who are fighting in the cause of God, so study what you can of it. And hold the contact-method and contribute towards betterment and give God a loan of righteousness. And whatever you put forth yourselves, you will find it with God, for it is better and a greater reward. And seek God's forgiveness, for God is Forgiving, Merciful.
Rashad Khalifa Your Lord knows that you meditate during two-thirds of the night, or half of it, or one-third of it, and so do some of those who believed with you. GOD has designed the night and the day, and He knows that you cannot always do this. He has pardoned you. Instead, you shall read what you can of the Quran. He knows that some of you may be ill, others may be traveling in pursuit of GOD's provisions, and others may be striving in the cause of GOD. You shall read what you can of it, and observe the contact prayers (Salat), give the obligatory charity (Zakat), and lend GOD a loan of righteousness. Whatever good you send ahead on behalf of your souls, you will find it at GOD far better and generously rewarded. And implore GOD for forgiveness. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.
Thy Lord doth know that thou standest forth (to prayer) nigh two-thirds of the night, or half the night, or a third of the night, and so doth a party of those with thee. But Allah doth appoint night and day in due measure He knoweth that ye are unable to keep count thereof. So He hath turned to you (in mercy) read ye, therefore, of the Qur'an as much as may be easy for you. He knoweth that there may be (some) among you in ill-health; others travelling through the land, seeking of Allah's bounty; yet others fighting in Allah's Cause, read ye, therefore, as much of the Qur'an as may be easy (for you); and establish regular Prayer and give regular Charity; and loan to Allah a Beautiful Loan. And whatever good ye send forth for your souls ye shall find it in Allah's Presence,- yea, better and greater, in Reward and seek ye the Grace of Allah for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Transliteration Laysoo sawaan min ahli alkitabi ommatun qa-imatun yatloona ayati Allahi anaa allayli wahum yasjudoona
Literal They are not equal/alike , from The Book's people, (are) a nation standing/keeping up , they read/recite God's signs/verses/evidences (during) the night's hours, and they prostrate.
Free-Minds They are not all the same, from the people of the Scripture are a nation that is upright; they recite God's revelations during parts of the night and they prostrate.
Rashad Khalifa They are not all the same; among the followers of the scripture, there are those who are righteous. They recite GOD's revelations through the night, and they fall prostrate.
Not all of them are alike Of the People of the Book are a portion that stand (For the right) They rehearse the Signs of Allah all night long, and they prostrate themselves in adoration.

Transliteration Amman huwa qanitun anaa allayli sajidan waqa-iman yahtharu al-akhirata wayarjoo rahmata rabbihi qul hal yastawee allatheena yaAAlamoona waallatheena la yaAAlamoona innama yatathakkaru oloo al-albabi
Literal Or who he is obeying humbly/prolonging the prayer (during) the nights' hours, prostrating and standing/keeping up he fears the end (other life) and hopes/expects his lord's mercy, say "Do (they) become equal/alike, those who know and those who do not know?" But (owners) of the pure minds/hearts mention/remember.
Free-Minds As for one who is meditating in the night, prostrating and standing, fearing the Hereafter, and seeking the mercy of his Lord. Say "Are those who know equal to those who do not know?" Only those who possess understanding will remember.
Rashad Khalifa Is it not better to be one of those who meditate in the night, prostrating and staying up, being aware of the Hereafter, and seeking the mercy of their Lord? Say, "Are those who know equal to those who do not know?" Only those who possess intelligence will take heed.
Is one who worships devoutly during the hour of the night prostrating himself or standing (in adoration), who takes heed of the Hereafter, and who places his hope in the Mercy of his Lord - (like one who does not)? Say "Are those equal, those who know and those who do not know? It is those who are endued with understanding that receive admonition.
