As for my personal opinion about "hijab", is that it is not mandatory.
Remember "...The best garment of righteousnes is the best..." (726)

I am no longer a Sunna-rejecter. See 4:59-65, 62:2-4, 3:31, 4:156, 7:157 Messenger teaches and is to be followed and obeyed. Examples of revelation received which is not in the Qur'an: 3:123-126, 33:37, 2:187, 66:3, 62:9.

          Peace Q_student,

Please Consult Lane's lexicon under Khimaar, you will get answer of all of your questions

I asked you in the circumcision thread to look at other opinions and you demanded that I look to and bring references. Now when you're asked the very same thing you ask me, that is to bring evidence from references you scoff at the idea that someone should ask you that? Isn't that hypocrisy? You were asked to bring certain evidence from lexicons and then you throw it back in the face of Wakas and say, "no you go look". Sounds to me you have a problem with other people's evidence and think yours alone is the truth.

then how can I help you

Do what he asked of you like I did what you asked of me in the circumcision thread. Although it bore no fruit since you rejected the opposing evidence to your ideas of the truth. Even still I cited and posted references.

                            Quranic proof please?

What would be the reason of a headcover anyway? There are reasons for all of God's rules.

The Qur'an lays down the principle of the law of modesty. In Surah 24 An-Nur 30 and 31, modesty is enjoined both upon Muslim men and Muslim women 4

Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty that will make for Greater purity for them And God is Well-acquainted with all that they do. And say to the believing women That they should lower their gaze And guard their modesty and they should not display beauty and ornaments expect what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that They must draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husband's sons, or their women, or their slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their ornaments.

The Qur'an advises the wives of the Prophet (SAS) to go veiled (33 59).

In Surah 24 31(Ayah), the Qur'an advises women to cover their "adornments" from strangers outside the family. In the traditional and modern Arab societies women at home dress quite differently compared to what they wear in the streets. In this verse of the Qur'an, it refers to the institution of a new public modesty rather than veiling the face.

One of the verses in the Qur'an protects a woman's fundamental rights. Aya 59 from Sura al-Ahzab reads

O Prophet! Tell Thy wives And daughters, and the Believing women, that They should cast their Outer garments over Their Persons (when outside) That they should be known (As such) and not Molested.

                                  Salam, Peace, Dear brother,

In this thread some were arguing about arab dictionnaries, and found that they nearly (99.99999% of them) translate the word e.g. khimar as a head cover etc etc please read thread to have more info. Also we have the same with 3359 as you mentionned which translate JALABIB pl of JILBAB as a wide cover women use to cover from head to feet.

Dear brothers, you should know by now all the dictionnaries mentionned are influenced by sunni (or even shii) point of view and are not God's word, the same has been done for all pre-islamic poems, there was under the Omeyad Khalifa a kind of censure and moral cleaning against anything not going in there way, it was for sure to control political opposition etc etc etc.

Khimar and jilbab are good examples of it in the Quran.

But HAMDOULILAH God is the most wise and used arabic language to deliver his message, and with the roots of the words we can easily understand the original meaning of any word.
Then khimar just mean smth you use to cover, that is it, if GOD wanted to say to cover head He would have said it and repeated it.

For jilbab we have even a better example how people twisted the meaning of a word, please see post for references
                                  http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=9598413.0
It never meant a cloth or whatever but people with the time, they just invented a new meaning with no relation at all to the origin of word.

                                  best regards

Anyway, has anyone read Mohsin Khan's version of 2431? rotfl rotfl

"And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer palms of hands or one eye or dress like veil, gloves, head-cover, apron, etc.), and to draw their veils all over Juyubihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband's fathers, or their sons, or their husband's sons, or their brothers or their brother's sons, or their sister's sons, or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in Islam), or the (female) slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male servants who lack vigour, or small children who have no sense of feminine sex. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg allah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful."

As far as I'm concerned...this is not even in accordance to the hadith (which gives women the persmission to show their hands and faces)!

did he change/remove/add in the original text? nope its a translation/explanation of his understanding of the book. he is way better then 19ers atleast.

If he wants to give an explanation in his own opinion then he can give it elsewhere. The Quran is clear and detailed. I'm sure God didn't miss anything out.
