Again i am challenging you to show me where quran prohibits a woman from marry four husbands. Your personal opinion means nothing.

But men are prohibited to marry the married woman.
    http//www.haqeeqat.org.pk/English%20Tafsir%20e%20Haqeeqat/00.Arabic%20Text/004.%20An%20Nisa/temp%2014%20%204.24a.gif
And amongst women those are also forbidden/sanctified who are protected/is already a wedded pearl except such married believing women who are presently with you . Allah has prescribed this for you to follow it in letter and spirit.

And women other than identified ones have been made permissible-knot/restriction removed for you so that you sincerely seek them with your wealth in the manner of those who seek women to take them in the protective fold /to make them a pearl of their life/home; and not for seeking them with wealth in the manner of debauch men for sexual lust/merely for flowing out the "water".

      Peace,

Nice post; sometimes people forget Qur'an is a logical book which exercises the brain teaches reasoning.

      Thank you
I saw I did myself a stupid logical mistake -[

I wrote Thus a female can understand verse 423 like this ?Forbidden are for you your SONS and your FATHER and your BROTHERS and the SONS OF YOUR FATHER etc??

I meant Thus a female can understand verse 423 like this ?Forbidden are for you your SONS and your FATHER and your BROTHERS and the SONS OF YOUR BROTHERS etc??

        Salaam sister WhereIsTheThruth,

Keep in mind that The Quran has 2 different ways to forbid something. Sometimes something is forbidden directly and sometimes indirectly.

Please read for example 2221 or 243. You will notice that here both the genders are mentioned this is necessary because otherwise people could make false assumptions.

Please read now for example 423.
You will notice that the person to who this verse is referring is a male. BUT actually it?s referring to both male and female but it?s not necessary to mention them both because the female knows exactly what is forbidden for her, even if it is only referring to the male.
Thus a female can understand verse 423 like this ?Forbidden are for you your SONS and your FATHER and your BROTHERS and the SONS OF YOUR FATHER etc??

Another point what you have to look at, is that you have to be careful with assumptions not based on the fundamental principles. You gave this example ?The verses you showed me did not said anything about how many husband's a girl can have. The first said that a woman has to wait some month if she wants to marry again. But a woman with multiple husbands is already married if one dies hence it does not apply for her. And secondly there was a verse who said that if a man divorce his wife she may first marry another husband and than they can unite. That can be applied both on women with one or more husbands. for Instance a woman has 4 husbands and one divorce her. He can not marry her before she marry another man again and hence again has 4 husban, the main point is that another man takes his place.?

        Let?s take husband=N
Why do you start your reasoning with N>1
As far as I know the woman of this planet are born with N=0
I hope you understand what I mean. You can never start an assumption with neglecting the fundamental principles else you will get false assumptions.

Now please reread all the marriage verses (actually all verses which have some law in them) again. But keep in mind that there are direct and indirect laws AND that you have to start your reasoning with a valid statement. I? am sure that you will come now to conclusion that it is forbidden for a woman to marry 2 men or more at the same time.

Ps I? am only talking about that it?s forbidden for a woman to have 2 or more husbands at the same time, I? am not talking about how many wives a man can have.

So you say that despite that there are no verse in the quran who forbids a woman to have 2 or more husbands I will come to the ''logic'' conclusion that a man can have multiple wives but a woman cannot have multiple husbands? Can you please tell me where this socalled logic is?

Well as an arabic speaker I know what you are talking about regarding the arabic gramma, in Arabic when masculin gender is mentioned it applies for both men and women but when feminine gender is mentioned its for women exclusive. For instance if you have a large group with 50 girls and ONE boy you would mention them as a male group rotfl
So naturally as you mentioned quranic passages applies for both male and females when God males. For instance Quran in surah Nisa says 'Dont inherit women against their will'' Okay does that mean that we women can inherit men against their will since that passage is directed to men confused No - This applies for both genders. A man cannot inherit a woman against her will neither can a woman inherit a man against his will.
So there are two conclusions Since quran does not set any limits for how many husbands a female can have, it means that the verse 42-3 applies for both men and women(Both can have multiple spouses if it is for the sake of the orphans)
Otherwise it can means 42-3 is not about polygyny hence neither a man or woman can marry more then one.

        peaceh

          Peace,

Nice post; sometimes people forget Qur'an is a logical book which exercises the brain teaches reasoning.

?Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive? -- Walter Scott

Or this case acting as "Mickey the Dunce" suggesting inheritance verses were not applicable 1400 years?

No, usually women are at an advantage getting more than their brothers especially an only daughter.

Example woman dies leaving parents, 3 daughters, and 3 husbands plus 1 husband she divorced.

Genetic tests prove that one current husband fathered 1 girl; another fathered the 2nd and the 3rd girl was from the 4th husband whom she divorced while still married to the others after waiting to give birth.

654 and those who have despaired from the menstruation from your women if you doubt so their waiting period three lunar cycles and those who not menstruated and those the pregnant their term that giving birth their loads and from fears Allah He make to him from his directive ease

Explain why women in menopause and the pregnant have to wait -- wait before they can do what?

Disburse payments according to Qur'an for above case without contradiction. Everything needed is here.

411 directs you Allah in your children to the male like share the two females so if are females above two so for them two thirds what left and if was one so for her the half and for their parents to each one from them the sixth from what left if is to them child so if not is to them child and inherited them their parents so to his mother the third so if is to them brethren so to his mother the sixth from after a will have made in it or judgment your parents and your children not you know which of them closer to you benefit obligation from Allah indeed Allah is Knowing Wise

412 and for you half what left your spouse?s if not is for them child so if is for them child so for you the fourth from what they left from after a will they made in it or judgment and for them the fourth from what you left if not is to you child so if is to you child so for them the eight from what you left from after a will you made in it or judgment and if is a man inherited kalala or a woman and them a brother or a sister so for each one from them the sixth so if they are more from that so they partners in the third from after a will is recommended in it or judgment not harmful a will from Allah and Allah Knowing Forbearing

Yes Quran is a logical book. Why should it allow polygyny for men and not for females? Any logical reasons not to allow polyandry???? Any verse in the quran who says a woman can not have multiple husbands?? No! So thats logic.

Actually I dont really understand you. What has mickey to do with anything? First you claimed that a woman with several husbands cannot know the father, I refuted your claim by simply reminding you of DNA test. By the way how do a husband with several wives knows that he is the father of their children? What if the wives had sex with someone else? So he cannot know for sure that he is the father, he just have to put his trust on his wives and expect that he is the father in contradiction to a woman with several husbands who has scientific facts on who the father of her children is, since DNA test is scientific proven. When you think about it, polyandry is much more better regarding the paternity of the children then polygyny, since 4 husbands of the same wife would for sure know who the father is because of DNA-test in contradiction to 4 wives of the same husbands where the paternity of the children is left to guesswork and trust.

I guess you could not find any verse in the quran who clearly says that a woman cannot marry four husbands, so know you are running in circles with other verses who have nothing to do with the subjec, hence your posts are being more and more confusing. The first verse from surah talaq which talks about the waiting period, read it again, did you regarded this and those who yet not menstruated/b] confused confused
Secondly you are again and again running in circles with inheritence verses which has again nothing to do with the subject. A child can inherit from both his mother and father. There are also women who marry 3-4 times in their lives and have kids from different men, hence their children also inherit from them.

Please come up with some relevant verses next time. I know you have some inner problem with females having multiple partners, but the reality is that what God has not forbid we can not forbid it either.

          Peace

Are you drunk? If not then how can you refer to this verse? For your kind information I am an arabic speaker. Mohasanat does not mean married. Its 'metzawja' which means married. Secondly I am not sunni hence the socalled tafsir by some mullah does not apply to me neither to the quran.

Who says they are among the forbidden? The socalled forbidden thing is written in (forbidden) because SOME translaters suggest that they must be forbidden since the verse before talks about who are forbidden. Mohasanat come from the root H-S-N, which some may describe some protected and some as good(from Hasan = good). But it has nothing to do with married women since marriage comes from the root Z-W-J which is a totally different word hence if married women were forbidden to marry it would be stated like this And forbidden for you is to marry a woman ALREADY MOTZAWJA with ONE. But thats not what is written. Thats the problem with pakistanis like you who dont know arabic and are let to guesswork through translations who are heavy influenced by the hadithers. So please stop to speak about what you dont have any knowledge about.
Hence there is no verse who says that a woman cannot have multiple husbands.

                Peace

Very interesting read. I enjoyed all the comments and reading everyones thoughts.

I came from a broken home too Emil. Let me tell you, the jealous between my mother and my step-mother, put me in the worse position ever growing up. So though I understand your point God does not care if you are jealous, I am here to tell you that the jealousy even between a divorced couple is like poison to a child. So imagine 2 women fighting for the undivided love of one man. Us girls are emotional and romantic types, so it does hurt. That jealousy does trickle down to the children and it is not fair to them. Not everyone can act civilized, even for the sake of the kids.

With that said, I can see in the past the use of more than one since women were not where they are now, in terms of rights. I know sex is a touchy subject and some of us women could handle more than one. Not all libidos are the same. However, I have a deep love for my husband and would never want him to feel anything but security and confidence in our marriage. Even if there was a surplus of men and it was an option I would decline. Pretty much what Kevin said. I just could not hurt my spouse in that manner. If someone needed help I have food, money and time to share, just not my bed.

Wheresthetruth, many men will freak on your belief a women can have more the one, the shoe on the other foot does not always feel good. Interesting point you brought up though. I think most still hold firm that women don't like/enjoy sex or desire/crave intimacy. On discovery health the other day they discussed this it was very interesting when they compared the libidos of a women in her thirties to that of a teenage boy rotfl And there was a women with 2 husbands, she watched her cycle and she knew who the father was due to the schedule they had arranged for intamacy. They even all lived in the same house! It was crazy.

                  Peace all group

I dont think you should take one husband more even and I dont think the majority of men or women would like to have multiple spouses since God created the nature of both men and women in a way that they find rest in one spouse which can be known through the creation of Adam and Eve.
But unfurtunately there are SOME men AND women who like to have multiple partners - and no women are not sexual dead as some muslims like to understand - they have the same sexual desires as men and hence there are some muslim women who would love to have multiple husbands if the government of their countries allowed them to do so.
I am only exposing the hypocrisy among muslims for as you can see, most muslims are some of the worst hypocrites when it comes to women. They will exhaust themselves in defending mens socalled ''right'' to cheat on their wife and back their opinion up with ONE verse of the quran in Surah Al Nissa which are actually pretty unclear and it can be easily questioned on whether that verse actually talks about polygyny or not(as the muslim boy in the blog showed). So they took this ONE verse out of the ENTIRE Quran and made the whole issue about how a man can and should cheat on his first wife. And the same muslims would exhaust themselves in strictly forbidden a woman to even THINK about another man then her husband, leave alone having multiple husbands DESPITE no verse in the Quran says that she cannot have multiple husbands. In fact if you really think about it, there are NO difference between a man having multiple wives and a woman having multiple husbands - the difference exist only in peoples mind due to their hypocrisy and sexual discrimination against women.
I once watched a conference held by the manipulative lier Zakir Naik and the name of his conference was ''Womans right in Islam'' But if you really gave attention to all what he said you would realize that the name of the conference in fact should be ''Why a muslim woman should accept discrimination and hypocrisy towards her'' and many times he linked women with prostitutes and mentioned them as being 'public property' and hence the underlying answer to 'why a muslim woman should accept discrimination and hypocrisy' was that she is a prostitute if she does not accept so. You can read some of the refutations against his hatefull attitude towards women here http//wikiislam.net/wiki/Rebuttals_to_Zakir_Naik
But anyway, we cannot change peoples hyporcrisy towards women anyway, but the important thing is at least that we can agree on what God actually says - or does not say - about women and about everyone else.

                  Peace

                    Dear Indelwyn

I feel you, and I totally get your point and I agree. But I think Allah wants us to look beyond our emotions. I dont know if you are a parent but if I would ever end up in the situation where the only way I could give my children a safe upbringing was to wed an already married woman I wouldnt hesitate for a second.

                    Dear Whereisthetruth

I think you have hit the spot with your last reply. A person's experience in life will affect the way he or she translates the holy book. We have had numerous discussions here about "what is" subjects where we will never agree because we come from different parts of the world. For example as a northern European I think it is pretty gay when a man wears a skirt. I dont think my opinion is shared by an arab....
After getting interested in the subject I too cannot find any CLEAR evidence that a woman cannot marry more than one. So I support you in principal with the point you are making.

Yes. I am a proud mommy of 3. However my 2 eldest are shared custody (50/50) with their father who is remarried, as am I. However, though there is some bashing of heads at times, I will not let my anger or hate towards their dad, reflect on them. Bottom line, regardless if I like it or not, he is their father and they love him and at one time so did I, I have to give that respect and acknowledge that. So they go between a Christian and a Muslim home, learning and growing to be open minded individuals. The rest.. I place in Allah's hands.

The point made by wheresthetruth is a very good one. I wonder in places where the males double and triple the women. I guess in this situation women taking on more than one with a good intention is no different than the man.

In today?s world, there are 57 million more men than women. This surplus of men is concentrated in the youngest age groups and steadily diminishes until it disappears at about age 50, thereafter becoming a surplus of women owing to their longer life expectancy. A surplus of men characterizes the world?s most populous countries ? China and India ? hence the large surplus of men worldwide.
                      UNstats.un.org

And unlike some sunni scholars claim, being unmarried does not make one fall into prostitution. When my ex decided to move on into relations with men and women as a lifestyle, I left. Or I should say kicked him out. I had no money, infact he drained my account and left me in the hole at the bank. I lost my house, we had no lights, no gas, no food. I was alone with two small children at the time. I was at a very low point. I could not get help because I technically was making too much money to qualify for financial help. I respected myself and kept working, not stripping, not selling myself. I could have, but did not. So that analogy is crap. It is the individual who pushes through with patience in God. After the burden comes ease. But even in that dark time, I would not have accepted being a second wife. I could not do that to another women I know how she would feel. Well... most of them.

A woman cannot have more than one husband because a man cannot marry a married women.

423 Forbidden for you are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your fathers' sisters, your mothers' sisters, the daughters of your brother, and the daughters of your sister, your foster mothers who suckled you, your sisters from suckling, the mothers of your wives, and your step-daughters residing in your homes from your wives which you have already consummated the marriage with; if you have not consummated the marriage then there is no sin upon you; and the wives of your sons that are from your seed, and that you join between two sisters except what has already been done. God is Forgiving, Compassionate.

424 The women who are already married, except those whom you have contractual rights, God's book is over you; and permitted for you is what is beyond this, if you are seeking with your money to be protected and not for illicit sex. As for those whom you have already had joy with them, then you shall give them their wage as an obligation. There is no sin upon you for what you agree to after the obligation. God is Knowledgeable, Wise

Hence, polyandry is forbidden. Read the Quran carefully people.

                          Salaam Kevin

My firm belief is that if not without any reasonable doubt we should be very careful when forbidding. When putting moral boundaries in the name of Allah it must be carved in stone and no chance of being debated or rebuted. And no matter how hard you try to find evidence in the Quran you will never find evidence strong enough to withstand any debate. I do not want "my" religion to stuff subjective morality down my throat, I leave that up to the society.

If we were to to discuss for example consuming pork I would without any doubt say it is forbidden because the holy book caanot be in any way interpreted as it being lawful for us. wouldnt you agree?

If I tried really hard, I would probably find evidence in the Quran that driving on the left side of the road is haraam....it is all a matter of subjective opinion.

That is why I chose to support Whereisthetruth in principal. Do not make haram if it is not clearly haram. Forgive me if I come across as "simple", but that is perhaps my strenght. Allah wants us simple folks to understand, therefore he has made beleiving in him simple

Now, the subject in question is one where (imo) where we do not need Allahs decree. We all know that a man would never share a woman with another man if he truly loves her, so that is not the issue here. The issue is rather what Whereisthetruth is trying to say, we are not to find "evidence" in the Quran to support our own personal morals about what is right and what is wrong.

                            Peace

Are you really an Arab? Sorry for this question. What sense would you make out of the line if you do not link it with what is said earlier despite seeing the presence of Waw conjunction? If you do not link it despite Waw and it being nominative, the sentence is incomplete and does not convey any thought.

                              A woman having more than one husband, as she suggests. What what she do if one of them divorces her to comply with this;

                              http//www.haqeeqat.org.pk/English%20Tafsir%20e%20Haqeeqat/00.Arabic%20Text/002.0290.gif

Take note that the divorcee wives shall honestly and sincerely keep their selves in waiting, refraining from deciding their future course, for three menstrual periods.

And how would she determine in the first few days of conception as to from whom she conceived?

                              http//www.haqeeqat.org.pk/English%20Tafsir%20e%20Haqeeqat/00.Arabic%20Text/002.0291.gif
Moreover, it is not permissible for the divorcee wives that they may withhold from announcing that which Allah has already created in their wombs if they have truly been believing in Allah and the Last Day .

Please come up with some relevant verses next time. I know you have some inner problem with females having multiple partners, but the reality is that what God has not forbid we can not forbid it either.

People can choose any fetish, not my issue; so based on your logic

4 men can simultaneously marry 4 women and they the same 4 men
4 men can simultaneously have sex with any wife at the same times

2187 permitted to you night the fasting the sexual relations with your women
2223 your women a tillage for you so approach your tilt how you like

I agree with you. By the way Emil, Jag ?r ocks? fr?n Skandinavien )

                                    Peace,

                                    Kevin

Again we have a problem with people who are not familiar with the arabic language and use sunni-hadither full-of-error- translation in order to understand a perfect book. Can you please show mere where the word 'forbidden for you is women already married' occur in the original arabic text??? because I cannot find it All I can see is something with some being mohsenaat, which does NOT mean married. Let me help you a little bit to understand simple arabic. Anything regarding marriage has the root Z-W-J in arabic, which means that ZAWAJ is marriage and MOTZAWAJ is masculien for a married man and MOTZAWJA is feminine for a married women. And nowhere do any of these words occur in the arabic text.

So once again have you failed to show where the quran prohibits polyandry. And who are you to prohib what God has not prohibit? Polyandry is for the sake of the widow men, and not for the lust of women.

Again you are imposing your pakistani-pendu thoughts upon the quran. The verse surah al nisa talks about mohsenaat and not about motzawaja(married). So please learn arabic before you talk.
Secondly what has these above verse you quoted to do with anything regarding polyandry? They do not apply for a women having multiple husbands since she is not divorced.

It seems like you regard the quran as being a book to men and not to women. Do you think God is only the God of men and not of women?
Now let me teach you simple arabic gramma, my dear friend. First of all, in arabic if you have a group of 1000 females and if even ONE boy joins the group of thousand women, the group would be regarded masculin. In other words when you talk to many people - males and females - in arabic(plural) then you would refer to them as men. For instance if I see 5 people and ONE of them is a boy and FOUR of them are girls, I would talk with them as they were all boys. In arabic the masculin words applies for both males and females while the feminine words applies for women exclusively

That is why most of the quran in most cases use masculin words - and hence quran is almost impossible to translate to another language especially english who has a whole different gramma. And thats the problem when people like you use translation and hence miss all the point.
Everything regarded to males in the quran also applies for women except when otherwise is clearly mentioned.

Therefore the above verse you quoted applies for both men and women. So men are also a tillage for women who we(women) can approach whenever we like and as we like.

So yes, a woman who is married to 4 men can approach all her husbands as she likes and when she likes and her men can also approach her when they like. AND NO THIS IS NOT A PERMISSION FOR RAPE.
