Is a prophet just a normal person/human being or is he a 'super-human being' ?
-
You still don't understand brother that the Quran didn't specify which. If I say that the crowd has Republicans and Democrats are you able brother to identify who is which by such a vague statement????
salaam brother,
No, but your information is very limited.
794 Whenever We sent a prophet to any town, We would afflict its people with hardship and adversity so that they may implore.
then later on.....
7101 These are the towns whose stories We relate to you; their messengers had come to them with proofs, but they would not acknowledge what they had denied before. It is such that God stamps on the hearts of the ingrates.
How do you know which is which. Didn't you say that you agree that there is a clear distinction between a messenger and a prophet?? Bring your proof and tell me which one among the people in the stories were messengers and which were prophets.
They were all messengers that is for sure, I guess I don?t even have to proof this for you. But as I earlier said I?m not sure if they were also prophets, because of 794. Maybe they were maybe not, have to study the subject more.
You will never be able to so since these Quranic verses aren't clear on which people were specified as prophets and which ones was specified as messengers. As i said before these are vague statements which are open to different interpretations . The only way to find the real interpretation is to put everything from the Quran into perspective.
Peace,Kevin
If Allah wills then He will increase my knowledge and show it to me.
The Quran is not vague, if something is not clear for you in The Quran, it doesn?t mean that The Quran is vague but that you don?t have enough knowledge.
No, the only way to know is to pray to Allah to increase your knowledge.

Do you know what is the dictionary meaning for messenger
http//dictionary.reference.com/browse/messenger
" a person who carries a message".
What will be the point of prophethood if the prophet didn't carry a message??? How can a Nabi not be a Raool if the Nabi brings a message???? Your logic doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever.
Salaam kevin,
Well then of course he is also a messenger. I believe that the misunderstanding is that you think that al the nabi's were messengers and that is not correct according to The Quran, because there were nabi's who were not messengers. I already gave you the example of Idries (in the freeminds translation they call him Enoch) but as far as I know even Ibrahim was not a messenger but only a nabi, and i believe there were more.
If you think that I'm wrong about Idries or Ibrahim then please correct me with a verse from The Quran. Also where is this whole argument about Angel Messengers and Saint messengers etc. Of course there are different types of messengers that were not human but that wasn't the point I was trying to show you! A prophets brings a message, so hence he himself is also a messenger!!!!
Well you said that you agree 100% with the link you gave. And their proof that every nabi is a rasoel is based on these wordconstructions and that is to my understanding not correct.
Where in the Quran does it say that Mary was a prophet ???
I already told you in the previous post that in 191-57 a string of people are mentioned by name including Meryem and in 1958 it is said that ?Those are the ones whom God has blessed from among the prophets from the progeny of Adam,??
I don?t want to exclude Meryem because she was a woman. As long as nobody can proof that it?s impossible for a woman to be a nabi then I believe that she was a nabi because. And I especially mentioned her because if no one can proof me wrong on this then it?s is also a proof that not every nabi is a rasoel as there can only be male rasoels.
Good argument. But you are bit shortsighted.
381 God took a covenant from the prophets "For what I have given you of the book and wisdom, then a messenger will come to you authenticating what is with you. You will acknowledge him and support him." He said, "Do you testify, and agree to this burden?" they said, "We testify." He said, "Then bear witness, and I am with you bearing witness."
337 When We took from the prophets their covenant. From you, and from Noah, and Abraham, and Moses, and Jesus the son of Mary; We took from them a strong covenant.
Lets use your same argument. If the prophets are dead then how is it that all of the prophets took the same covenant and were awaiting the same messenger???? Wouldn't this contradict with your argument that the prophets need to be alive in order for this prophecy to be fulfilled???
First of all, where did you read that it?s the same messenger? ?There will come a messenger to you? doesn?t mean the same messenger, does it?
And why do the prophets had to be dead, I really don?t understand. Of course they had to be alive. Is it possible for lets say a Bank to take the same covenant about a loan with 100 different people in different places all over the world and at different hours?
ps. note that it is not said what kind of messenger. Thus maybe it's an angelmessenger or the Ruh.
Why are you bringing Rashad Khalifa into this discussion. I can't recall ever mentioning him at all on this thread till now.
Well you brought Mohammed?s prophethood to the discussion which had nothing to do with the subject we were discussing. And even when I clearly stated my understanding on this, you asked me again about it.
I might be wrong, but it looked to me that you wanted to make some point about some messengership of someone according to 381. That?s why I brought him (Rashad Khalifa) into the discussion that the messenger described in 381 can?t be Rashad Khalifa to my understanding, if you were indeed referring to him when you asked me about the prophethood of Mohammed.
If that was not your intention then I apology, but I still don?t know why you asked me that twice.Regarding where i see messenger-ship.....
689 Those to whom We have given the book, the law, and the prophethood, if they reject it, then We will entrust it to a people who will not reject it.You don't need to be a prophet in order to bring the law. The law can me brought by messengers as well. Plus if you notice the verse didn't describe who was given what but all it says is "Those to whom We have given the book, the law, and the prophethood " . Who are "Those"???. The 'those' here do not mean the people previously mentioned in the verses but rather the people who had prophets and messengers sent to them.
Also....
There is not one piece of evidence in the verse prior to 689 where anyone was SPECIFICALLY mentioned as a prophet or a messenger. If so please tell me where it is among the verses.
Peace
Kevin
Well what can I say, we clearly understand things different.
I asked you were do you read messengership and you highlight for me "THE LAW", and thus that a messenger can also bring The Law.
And you ask me to look at the verse prior to 689 to show to you were the evidence is were anyone is specifically is mentioned a prophet or a messenger hypnoI really don't know what to say about this.
maybe it helps if you read 689 again Those are they to whom We have given the book AND the law AND the prophethood. If they reject it, then We will entrust it to a people who will not reject it.
please notice the "AND" thus it's not an "OR"
salaam and take care

If a prophet bears a message is he not a messenger???? It?s a very simple concept to grasp. Your concept is too complex.
Abraham is a messenger and a prophet.
970 Had not the news of those before them come to them, the people of Noah and Aad and Thamud. The people of Abraham, and the dwellers of Midian, and those overthrown. Their messengers came to them with proofs; it was not God who wronged them, but it was themselves that they wronged.
1941 Recall in the book Abraham. He was a sincere prophet.
Prophethood and messengership go hand in hand. If I say ?This is a beautiful cup? and then I say ?This is a beautiful golden cup? I?m still speaking about the same cup but the only difference is that I?m being more specific. All prophets are messenger because they bring messages.
Well you said that you agree 100% with the link you gave. And their proof that every nabi is a rasoel is based on these wordconstructions and that is to my understanding not correct.
No it is not based on word constructions. It is based by common sense. I still can't see how you cannot grasp this simple concept. If I bring a message from God am I not a messenger of God???? Don't prophets bring messages. It?s so simple.
I already told you in the previous post that in 191-57 a string of people are mentioned by name including Meryem and in 1958 it is said that ?Those are the ones whom God has blessed from among the prophets from the progeny of Adam,??

There is zero evidence in the Quran for Mary ever being a prophet. The verse 191-57 were talking about Jesus , Abraham and Enoch as prophets.
Sura 1958 says absolutely nothing about Mary being a prophet. How can you interpret Mary being a prophet from the statement ?Those are the ones whom God has blessed from amongst the prophets from the progeny of Adam,?.? How does this statement become a sign as Mary being a prophet?
1958 Those are the ones whom God has blessed from amongst the prophets from the progeny of Adam, and those We carried with Noah, and from the progeny of Abraham and Israel, and from whom We have guided and chosen. When the signs of the Gracious are recited to them, they fall down prostrating, and in tears.
All this verse is saying is that God blessed prophet hood to certain children of Adam. And that?s it! Where in the Quran does it say Mary was a prophet??? I?m not against women being prophets mine you. I would welcome it. But I highly doubt anyone during Mary?s time will follow a female prophet. Men barely follow prophets who a male, much less for a female back then who were treated with very little respect.
First of all, where did you read that it?s the same messenger? ?There will come a messenger to you? doesn?t mean the same messenger, does it?

What is the point of an Angel messenger coming after Muhammad and all the prophets to authenticate what the they had??? Doesn't a messenger bring a message???? Between Muhammad death and now have you ever heard of any Angel Messengers authenticating what was sent in the Quran??? Lol. Obviously the two verses are talking about human messenger. (Sura 381 and Sura 337)
Well you brought Mohammed?s prophethood to the discussion which had nothing to do with the subject we were discussing. And even when I clearly stated my understanding on this, you asked me again about it.

If I did I would have mentioned it but I didn?t. You did. I really don?t care who believes or doesn?t believe in Dr.Khalifa?s messengership. That is there own business. All I was trying to show was that it is quite clear from the Quran that a messenger was suppose to come after Muhammad(Sura 381 and Sur 337) since All the prophet (including Muhammad himself) took the same covenant.

I still don?t how a you can believe prophet is not a messenger since a messenger is one bears a message. If a prophet bears a message is he not a messenger???? It?s a very simple concept to grasp. Your concept is too complex.
Salaam Kevin,
How can you say that ?my concept? is too complex, while I didn?t even explained what I understand under a messenger and a prophet. InsjaAllah somewhere next week I will open a new thread with my understanding on what a messenger and what a prophet is. I will appreciate it if you take a look at it and of course correct me where you believe I?m wrong.
Thank you for showing me 970. I think you are right and that Ibrahim was indeed also a messenger. There is also an other verse that convinced me.... Have to do my homework next time better )
No it is not based on word constructions. It is based by common sense. I still can't see how you cannot grasp this simple concept. If I bring a message from God am I not a messenger of God???? Don't prophets bring messages. It?s so simple.
I understand very well what you are saying and what is been said on the link you gave. I simply don?t agree with this concept and with their proof. But as I said before, insjaAllah I will try to explain somewhere next week my understanding.
I?m not against women being prophets mine you. I would welcome it. But I highly doubt anyone during Mary?s time will follow a female prophet. Men barely follow prophets who a male, much less for a female back then who were treated with very little respect.
This is not a proof, this is only your believe?
But I am curious in one thing?
1958 begins with ?Those are they?.?.
Thus it?s referring to some people who must be mentioned before, if you believe that it?s not referring to the ones mentioned in 191-57 then to whom is it referring according to you? What is the point of an Angel messenger coming after Muhammad and all the prophets to authenticate what the they had??? Doesn't a messenger bring a message???? Between Muhammad death and now have you ever heard of any Angel Messengers authenticating what was sent in the Quran??? Lol. Obviously the two verses are talking about human messenger. (Sura 381 and Sura 337)
As far as I understand it says that a messenger will come to them and NOT AFTER them. But maybe I?m overlooking something. Here are the verses you mentioned.
Can you please highlight for me were you read that a messenger will come AFTER them to authenticate what is with them. Here is verse 337
337 And when We took from the prophets their covenant. And from you, and from Noah, and Abraham, and Moses, and Jesus, son of Mary; We took from them a solemn covenant. And here is 381 (I don?t totally agree with this translation of FM but for the point you made it doesn?t matter)
381 And God took a covenant from the prophets "For what I have given you of the Book and wisdom, then a messenger will come to you authenticating what is with you. You will believe in him and support him." He said "Do you testify, and agree to this burden?" They said "We testify." He said "Then bear witness, and I am with you bearing witness."No I didn?t want to make a point about Rashad Khalifa. If I did I would have mentioned it but I didn?t. You did. All I was trying to show was that it is quite clear from the Quran that a messenger was suppose to come after Muhammad(Sura 381 and Sur 337) since All the prophet (including Muhammad himself) took the same covenant.
Ok, thank you for clarifying this, I apoligy.

Salaam Kevin,
I promised if Allah wills it to open a thread, about my understanding on rasoels and nabi?s but I am afraid that is not going to happen soon. I have studied the subject a couple of days but I came across some verses and some words I don?t understand yet. First I want a clear understanding for myself before I open a thread. So sorry for the promise I couldn?t fulfill. InshaAllah when I?m confident with these words and verses, then InshaAllah I will open a thread.
Ps. I?m still very confident that a nabi is not a messenger by default there are just some other things that I find hard to understand.
May Allah increase us in our knowledge,

Salaam everyone
I confess I have not read this thread properly as I haven't been on this forum for a while. Only this morning I was reading surah Hud and came accross an ayah, regarding the messengers from Allah, and saw this thread so I thought I'd give my view on the subject.
Angels are "Our messengers" to Nabi 11;69 And certainly did Our messengers come to Abraham with good tidings; they said, "Peace." He said, "Peace," and did not delay in bringing a roasted calf.
In 11;71 Then We gave her good tidings of Isaac and after Isaac, Jacob. Here again word "We" is used to give glad tidings from Allah via Angels/messengers.
In 11;73 again the messenger(angels) explain the attributes of Allah as a third party referred to as 'Allah' and 'He'; They said, "Are you amazed at the decree of Allah ? May the mercy of Allah and His blessings be upon you, people of the house. Indeed, He is Praiseworthy and Honorable.
It is important to understand where 'messenger' is actully the angel delivering a message from Allah, and where knowledge of future events is revealed through angels as in 11;76 "O Abraham, give up this . Indeed, the command of your Lord has come, and indeed, there will reach them a punishment that cannot be repelled." And messenger go to Lot in 11;77 And when Our messengers, , came to Lot, he was anguished for them and felt for them great discomfort and said, "This is a trying day."
So when delibrating on "What exactly is a Rasool and a Nabi?" do keep in mind Angles /Gabrial and if we read the Qur'an with this in mind we can understand what is meant by obey Allah and his messenger.

Muhammad (AS) is the Final Messenger and the Final Prophet
Is a Nabi and a Rasool Different?
What is a Nabi and Babuwwat?
The word Nabi is from the trilateral root which means, he informed or he gave news or information of. It also means Information or announcement. Surah Al-'A`rf verse 175 says that
7175
And recite to them, , the NEWS of him to whom we gave Our signs, but he detached himself from them; so Satan pursued him, and he became of the deviators.
Raghib says that although it is synonym with news but it signifies, ?an announcement of great utility, from which results either knowledge or a predominance of opinion, and true,?
782
About the great news
Nabi (ٍ means a prophet, one who acquaints or informs mankind or who is acquitted or informed, respecting God or things unseenWhat is a Rasool and Rasalat?
The trilateral root for rasool is The triliteral root r sn lm. Rasil means He (a camel) was, or became, easy in pace. means he brought a message. Whereas , signifies the bringing a message.
means, One who has a message; i. e. a messenger . The plural of is and (S, Msb) and
is applied without variation to a male and a female, and to one and to a plural number as in 2616 (Verily 'We are the messengers of the Lord of the worlds) and in 2047 (Verily we are the two messengers of your Lord]; the dual form being here used
The saying in the 25.37 (And the people of Noah - when they denied the messengers, We drowned them) Ez-Zejjaj, says, may mean that they charged with lying Noah alone; for he who charges with lying a prophet charges therewith all the prophets, since they believe in God and in all his messengersRasalat and signify the same, that is A message; and a letter; a communication sent from one person or party to another, oral or written
The same word also signifies, a tract, or small treatise or discourse; a i. e. book, or writing, relating to science, or on any subject, comprising a few questions, inquiries, or problems, of one kind The plural for it is . It also means messengership; the messenger?s office or function as in 779 (O my people, I had certainly conveyed to you the message of my Lord and advised you, but you do not like advisors)Is a Nabi and a Rasool Different? Quran?s Answer is No
4163
Indeed, We have revealed to you, , as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him. And we revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, the Descendants, Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and Solomon, and to David We gave the book.
4164
And messengers about whom We have related to you before and messengers about whom We have not related to you. And Allah spoke to Moses with speech.
The above verse starts with Hurfe Taukeeedin wa nasbin, ?Inna? emphasizing, ?Indeed? for the revelations by Allah to the Prophet Muhammad (AS) as (ا revelations were sent to the prophets, Ibrahim, Ismael, Ishaq, Yaqoob and the Isbat (descendants of Yaqoob, which is also a term used for Bani-Israel, which also include Yousef). In addition to that same revelations were also sent to the prophets Eesa, Ayyub, Yonus, Haroon and Suleman. So until this point of the verse under consideration it comes out as a undeniable evidence that same revelations were sent to all messengers or prophets. The last phrase states that Daud was given the book which is erroneously translated as Zabur since here is used as a common noun so must be translated as a book.
(1) It should be further noted that since is in accusative case and also due to the fact that all prophets mentioned in this verse (also including those who were the descendants of Yaqoob but are not mentioned here by name) were given the revelation in the form of the book just like the prophet Muhammad (AS).
(2) The verse immediately after this verse (4164) further widens the domain of prophets by saying that, ?And messengers about whom We have related to you before and messengers about whom We have not related to you.? Thus a simple conclusion from the two verses together is that all the messengers (rasool) were given the message (revelations) in the form of a book. Another evident conclusion from above is that all the messengers were always given the same or similar message or revelations.
(3) Another important fact evident from the above two verses is that the plural word in 416e, which had been mentioned to receive revelations, is substituted by the plural word . This substitution confirms without doubt that (a) all the messengers were also given the same revelations and books as were the prophets (b) if all messengers and prophets were given the same or similar revelations. It also means that all the Rasools are Nabi as well. This will be further strengthened with more arguments below.
Some Characteristics of a Nabi and Rasool
(1) They are always a nabi and a rasool at the same time 1951, 1954 4163 and 4164 as well as 2213 and 5725
(2) Every Rasool is born as a Nabi 1951, 1954, 1930 (Easa), 339 (Yahya), 126 and 689 (Yousuf)
(3) Nabi is the designation and thus is a person chosen to bring the news of unseen (Ref ). Every one of them is then given assignment of messengership (rasalat) when he reaches full maturity 1222 (Yousuf), 2814 and 2621 and 287 (Moosa), 2171-74 (Loot), 2179 (Suleman and Daud)
(4) They are a witness for his Ummah
(5) They are truthful 1941 and 1956
(6) They are from righteous as in 2130, 339, 683-85, 37112
(7) They are preferred over the words ( َ 683-86
(8.) They are chosen and guided to the straight path ( ٍ 683-88
(9) They do not mix their beliefs with injustice 682-6-87
(10) They do not associate anyone with Allah 683-88
(11) They are all given the book ( ) and authority (َ and Prophethood (َ
(12) They are the examples and are required to be followed as an example by all 690
(13) They are chosen by Allah 687, 126, 162, 16121, 1958, 20122 and 6850
(14) They are all human beings 3,39 and 3615
(15) They only deliver the message of Allah 592, 1682, 2454 and 6412 (Muhammad), 2918 (Ibrahim) 1635 and 3617 (All messengers)
(16) They are all made leaders by Allah 2169-73 (Ibrahim, Loot, Ishaq and Yaqoob) 3224 (Prophets of Bani Israel)
(17) We must believe in the Allah as well as the prophets 648
(1 All of them carried exactly the same message
(19) Certain messengers were given some additional specific attributes as required by the environment 2253 and 1755
(20) Otherwise, Allah makes no distinction among them as far as submission to the Allah and the message is concerned nor we should 384Further Evidence from Quran that A Nabi is also a Rasool
1951
And mention in the Book, Moses. Indeed, he was chosen, and he was a messenger and a prophet.

And mention in the Book, Ishmael. Indeed, he was true to his promise, and he was a messenger and a prophet. We can again see the evidence here that Ismael in 1954 is mentioned as a messenger and a prophet at the same time. If we look back in 4163, his name is directly mentioned. We can also see that the name of Moosa is also mentioned in 1951 as a messenger and a prophet. He is indirectly included in 4163 as he is in the descendants of yaqoob (Yousef (AS) who was the sun of Yaqoob moved to Egypt and along with him moved the Bani-Israel, Moosa (AS) is among ?the descendants? of Yaqoob or .
Conclusive Evidence "All Prophets Came with the Books"

Mankind was one community ; then Allah sent the PROPHETS as bringers of good tidings and warners AND sent down with them the BOOK in truth to judge between the people concerning that in which they differed. And none differed over the Scripture except those who were given it - after the clear proofs came to them - out of jealous animosity among themselves. And Allah guided those who believed to the truth concerning that over which they had differed, by His permission. And Allah guides whom He wills to a straight path. All Messengers Alos with the Books

We have already sent OUR MESSENGERS with clear evidences AND SENT DOWN WITH THEM THE BOOK and the balance that the people may maintain in justice. And We sent down iron, wherein is great military might and benefits for the people, and so that Allah may make evident those who support Him and His messengers unseen. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might.Muhammad (AS) is the Final Messenger and the Final Prophet

And when Jesus, the son of Mary, said, "O children of Israel, indeed I am the messenger of Allah to you confirming what came before me of the Torah and bringing good tidings of A MESSENGER to come after me, whose name is Ahmad." But when he came to them with clear evidences, they said, "This is obvious magic."The above verse provides yet another clear evidence that only ?one messenger? has been predicted to come after Easa (AS).

Muhammad is not the father of one of your men, but the Messenger of Allah and seal of the prophets. And ever is Allah, of all things, Knowing.Since is in accusative case (mansoob) and motoofun ala , which is itself in accusative case in the above verse therefore, the correct translation of the above verse is as follows
Muhammad is not the father of one of your men, but the last Messenger of Allah and seal of the prophets. And ever is Allah, of all things, Knowing.
It is therefore, one more conclusive evidence that there can no nabi and no rasool to come after Muhammad (AS).
The only difference in a Nabi and Rasool is that All are born as NABI and chosen by Allah, When they get fully matured (mentally) then they are gievn the assignment of Rasalat (messengership).
