Which ones? You don't need to quote them, just the number quotations will be fine.

rehis translation of the Quran, I was only talking about that and just that, not the person himself. Not my own view either, I was just saying that other people seem to like that translation. Feel free to disagree with me, I'm not trying to argue a point here.

    3132, 81, 459, 592, 820, 846, 2454, 5813 and 6412.

Only in some circles Khalifa is even known. . .and his translation is know to even fewer. You raised the point in the first place . . . hardly a graceful exit from it brickwall

Thanks, I'll try to reply formally sometime later, it's late where I am and I need some sleep.

Everywhere I see the Khalifa translation mentioned, I usually either see people say they prefer it or the steer clear from it. That's all. My point was that ShadowScholar being led to Islam by Khalifa's translation isn't an inherantly bad thing in itself, issues with him tend to concern his activities and not his translation (although I've heard weird things about his later editions of the translation. Can't verify that myself) I dunno how I'm "exitting" from this point or how it even concerns anything you're saying. Or why out of everything I said you decided to pick that out. I'm not sure what you're trying to get across by picking apart the semantics of rather casually written posts, like I said I wasn't trying to argue anything in particular there, maybe you misunderstood what I was saying or something.

"Or why out of everything I said you decided to pick that out."

Read your comment - it was short - and this is NOT the only thing I replied to. There was not anything more . . . was there? Did I miss anything?

"I'm not sure what you're trying to get across by picking apart the semantics of rather casually written posts"

Simple - if it such a moot point - why do you keep referring to it? Move on.

There is simple dishonesty in this statement. . . we rely on these same people for Arabic and the Quran . . . yet when it comes to Hadith. . . suddenly they are not good enough? Nonsense.

The way I see it, it is almost as if I were to provide you with a refreshing cup (or bottle) of water, and urge you to "trust me" and just drink from it. then, after you take a sip or more, you discover that the water is kind of salty (taste/mtn) and smelly (odor/isnd), which is true, after all, it contains a small amount of urine (falsehood/tadlis)! Your options (1) will you choose to finish the yucky water and praise me as your hero/helper/teacher/leader/master/scholar or whatever?! OoooooR, Option (2) kick my butt? Your choice. I made mine.

All those who believe in the Hadith corpus . . . in no way equate it as equal to the Quran.

If ignorance is bliss you must be one hell of a happy guy!

456 - "These are the verses of Allah which We recite to you in truth. Then in what statement after Allah and His verses will they believe?"
This verse in way negates hadith corpus.

I agree! this verse does, indeed, negate the hadith corpus!

6114 - ", "Then is it other than Allah I should seek as judge while it is He who has revealed to you the Book explained in detail?" And those to whom We gave the Scripture know that it is sent down from your Lord in truth, so never be among the doubters."

          Neither does this.

In this verse, ALLAH (SWT) is instructing us "not" to doubt HIS WORDS by seeking "other" sources beside HIS perfect, complete, and fully explained Qur'an (as a source of law and guidance). thus, we should leave the man-made hadith you keep clinging to. by definition, falsehood is a "statement" (hadith) that "distorts" or suppresses the "truth", in order to deceive and mislead. the same way the urine contaminated the pure and clean water (in the previous example).

7158 - "Say, , "O mankind, indeed I am the Messenger of Allah to you all, to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death." So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the unlettered prophet, who believes in Allah and His words, and follow him that you may be guided."

          Neither does this.

In this verse (715, ALLAH (SWT) commands Muhammad (as) to declare that he's the Messenger of ALLAH, the Lord of the worlds, the Creator of both life and death. Then, ALLAH (SWT) Commands (us) Mankind to believe in HIM (our LORD) and follow HIS Messenger (Muhammad) who believes in ALLAH and HIS WORDS (aka the Revelation/ the Qur'an). This goes IN-LINE with Suras like 73; 456; 6113-114-115; 7750; 7185; 5323; Etc... in which ALLAH (SWT) FORBIDS US from taking the words of man as a source of Law and Guidance instead of HIS Glorious Revelation. It's cristal clear my brother, all you need to do is activate your left-brain.
Muhammad (pbuh) believed in ALLAH (the One and Only God) and believed in HIS WORDS (the Qur'anic Verses). thus, following the foot steps of Muhammad (as) means (1) Believing in ALLAH (SWT). and (2) Believing in the Qur'an by following the commandments of ALLAH (SWT). in conclusion, Prophet Muhammad, as a Messenger of ALLAH, left us the Qur'an alone (the Message). therefore, the Qur'an alone should speak for islam. the statements (ahadith) that were collected and attributed to our dear Prophet, hundreds of years after his death, are to be avoided (as a source of law and guidance)! if you consider yourself a believer or muslim, I suggest you fear ALLAH, my brother. for, "whoever does not judge by what ALLAH has revealed - then it is those who are the disbelievers."

Poor analogy to give. No - horrendous analogy. Say what you want to rather than this.

"If ignorance is bliss you must be one hell of a happy guy!"

Such statements have little or no merit - If I have displayed ignorance - surely the right way is to say what I am wrong over. It is kind of obvious - if you disagree with someone's position then to say such lines. But the merit is in the quality of argument. . .

"I agree! this verse does, indeed, negate the hadith corpus!"

I don't agree - I meant to say - it doesn't negate the Hadith corpus.

"In this verse, ALLAH (SWT) is instructing us "not" to doubt HIS WORDS by seeking "any" source of law and guidance beside the perfect, complete, and fully explained Qur'an. thus, we should leave the man-made hadith you keep clinging to. by definition, falsehood is a "statement" (hadith) that "distorts" or suppresses the "truth", in order to deceive and mislead. the same way the urine contaminated the pure and clean water (in the previous example)."

A book - which is IMPOSSIBLE to understand without Hadith . . . you wouldn't what this letter meant - without the Hadith. . . . what is that symbol?

            The verse does not say

" seeking "any" source of law and guidance beside the perfect"

            That is your understanding.

Hadith corpus does NOT doubt the the Quran in any way. Nor changes its position in anyway. Yet - Quran is only understandable in Arabic. . . else it isn't.

Hence - you end up using Hadith. It is THAT simple.

"in which ALLAH (SWT) FORBIDS US from taking the words of man as a source of Law and Guidance instead of HIS Glorious Revelation. It's cristal clear my brother, all you need to do is activate your left-brain. "

All you did was paste the quote and re-phrase it!

Quran did NOT come in vacuum - it came as the back-drop of Prophet Muhammad's life. 23 years . . . he taught it. Many of its verses DIRECTLY correlate to his life . . .

The book is in Arabic . . . the same people who conveyed the language by the way. The same people - who memorized it -wrote it down and passed it along.

Obviously - they made the difference between Quran and Hadith . . . hence the different status between the two.

"following the foot steps of Muhammad (as) means (1) Believing in ALLAH (SWT). and (2) Believing in the Qur'an by following the commandments of ALLAH (SWT)."

100% true . . . yet this does NOT have 1% shade as to the validity or invalidity of the Hadith Corpus.

"in conclusion, Prophet Muhammad, as a Messenger of ALLAH, left us the Qur'an alone (the Message)."

Yes - and how he lived and acted it out and taught it. So even centuries later - we agree some on bare fundamentals - rather than descend into chaos.

"The Qur'an alone should speak for islam"

What does this even mean? Islam does not equal to Quran and vice versa.

"not statements (hadith) of humans who lived hundreds of years after the death of our Prophet (as)!"

Wrong. Hadith is aout actions and deeds of the Prophet Muhammad

"Desist and fear ALLAH my brother. for, "whoever does not judge by what ALLAH has revealed - then it is those who are the disbelievers."
            "

Back to you - dear one . . . however, desist from what exactly?

"These are the verses of Allah which We recite to you in truth." Quran is given as evidence for oneness of Allah.

"Then in what statement after Allah and His verses will they believe?" Clear enough - besides Allah and Quran - what else will the Kufar believe in . . . that is - some other scripture or whatnot.

Indeed! and, the thousands of ahadith/statements attributed to prophet Muhammad (as) in al-kutub a-ssittah (the six books) are also addressed in this verse. thus, using them as a source of law and guidance is forbidden by ALLAH (SWT). After all, it is HE who revealed to us the Best Statement there is , the Glorious Qur'an. therefore, we should stick with it, and avoid mixing Earthly traditions with our Heavenly religion.

No they are not. As Hadith are not proposed to be equivalent to the Quran. One is the Word of Allah. . . the other is record of words/action of Prophet Muhammad .

The above reference is only meant for those texts that one would elevate them to be equivalence to the Word of God. Something like 'The Bible' or Guru Granth Sahib.

"thus, using them as a source of law and guidance is forbidden by ALLAH (SWT)."

Actually it isn't. Muslim source of law - the highest - is from Quran - then Hadith - Concesus of the Companions - Analogical Reasoning . . . .

And then there are other subsidary sources . . . which allow guidance from say - Urf - Common Practice of culture - as long as it does not contradict what Quran and Hadith say.

For example . . . in many matters - seeking guidance of science is allowed . . . work of human being - theories of thinkers, philosophers, economists . . . etc - is allowed to form basis of law and to seek guidance . . . . in forming governance.

It would be extremely silly to say otherwise. Those things are NOT meant here . . . but taking scripture to be anything besides Quran. For example - Quran does not permit eating the flesh of swine. it doesn't matter what other books says . . . it is not allowed.

But if a government chooses to ban eating of horses . . . as was done by Hazrat Umar - to preserve them for War and Travel needs . . . that is allowed. Just one poor example . . . I know. But it gets the point across.

In modern context - examining theories of Economic and baking Practice . . . taking guidance from books of Economists - and making laws - is that forbidden? Nope. That is to say - we as Muslims - will reject banking that is interest-based . . . because of the Quran. But anything besides - is that forbidden? No.

What are Hadith - primarily - words and actions of the Prophet Muhammad . . . now taking guidance and forming laws from them is to me common sense . . .

No one implies that Hadith are in any way shape or form equal to the Quran . . . yet hadith show how the Prophet Muhammad lived - and how he practised the deen. Now - to striving hard in how HE practised - we will seek to practice is the best thing . . . after all - who else can be a better Muslim than him.

"therefore, we should stick with it, and avoid mixing Earthly traditions with our Heavenly religion."

Your objections are naive. One cannot understand a single letter of the Quran - if you reject Hadith. How else besides Hadith - do you know of Quranic language?

                    Does Quran teach you that?

Such objection invariably come to misunderstanding of Hadith - that they somehow are taken to equivalent of Quran - especially if you use them verses as evidence that they reject Hadith.

                      Peace pixelrow,

Ok, the quotation was from one of the most "authentic" hadith and it says what it says. Despite this, it was only to raise awareness and not as a fact since I do not accept the hadith to be a trustworthy source of information.

The second reference was from the Quran itself and it is pretty clear in its wordings. Muhammad did not utter any other words than the Quran, because otherwise God would have stopped the revelations to him and removed him from the prophethood.

Would you call this illogical? To follow the words of the Quran or do you call the hadith to be part of the Quran?

Well, in case you do then it is your logic and not mine. But it is quite bold to say my utterances are illogical when the reasoning is quite rational, as long as you consider the words of the Quran to be followed.

You can always ponder whose logic is most reasonable.

These are just basic questions about hadith as a source. I can dig deeper if you like. The two references above are sufficient for me to 110% ignore all hadith from Muhammad. I'd rather read the Bible to be honest, for entertainment and source of inspiration, but not to seek religious laws or restrictions. For that I have Quran, it suffices me.

Would you call me arrogant because of this?

Well, I have my opinion, but I do not refer to you as lowly or less worthy. It is just a personal preference. I ignore hadith because I have better things to do, like being righteous and work to gain a peace of mind through meditation and prayers.

                      God bless you

Pixelrow, in my opinion your statment contradicts following verses 121-2, and it is only one example and in Quran are many that write the same.
If God Mercifully tells us his words are clear, detailed and simply to understand then that must be true.
I don't see the need to use hadith books for explanation or varification of Quran. God explains Quran through his verses.
Indeed, Mohammed a.s was a good example of a Muslim but there are many stories about Messengers, Prophets and other rightous people mentioned in Quran that we should also take as examples for the stright path.

Your attitude to Hadith is plain wrong.

"Ok, the quotation was from one of the most "authentic" hadith and it says what it says. Despite this, it was only to raise awareness and not as a fact since I do not accept the hadith to be a trustworthy source of information."

                            Hence a pointless remark.

"The second reference was from the Quran itself and it is pretty clear in its wordings. Muhammad did not utter any other words than the Quran, because otherwise God would have stopped the revelations to him and removed him from the prophethood."

                            Where? Reference this . . . I have not found this in Quran. Surely you don't mean . . . 6944-

And if Muhammad had made up about Us some sayings,
                            We would have seized him by the right hand;
Then We would have cut from him the aorta.

"Would you call this illogical? To follow the words of the Quran or do you call the hadith to be part of the Quran?"

This is dishonesty from you . . . look at what I replied to you? And look what you are making out to be?

To follow words of the Quran is NOT illogical - neither have I even implied it. . . .

Nor is Hadith part of Quran - nor does anyone say this.

" But it is quite bold to say my utterances are illogical when the reasoning is quite rational, as long as you consider the words of the Quran to be followed."

Look at your dishonesty . . . read my reply to you

"That has made me to, quite simply, come to the logical conclusion that the hadith are fake."

                            Actually your conclusion is illogical.

There is possibility that some Hadith contain the truth . . . then to form an absolute conclusion - that says they are false - is illogical.

It would have made more sense to say . . . as the authentication of Hadith is doubtful - that is why I reject the whole corpus. But you didn't say it.

Read it carefully . . . . look at how you distorted this . . . all you say is

" when the reasoning is quite rational"

Look at what I have said . . . "your conclusion is illogical" - about what? That the Hadith are fake.

"when the reasoning is quite rational, as long as you consider the words of the Quran to be followed."

This is illogical in itself . . . following Quran and your reasoning have no correlation! So how come if you follow the Quran . . . then your "reasoning" becomes valid?

"These are just basic questions about hadith as a source. I can dig deeper if you like. The two references above are sufficient for me to 110% ignore all hadith from Muhammad. No it is not sufficient - you cannot understand a single letter - without the Hadith Corpus. And which basic questions?

You concluded your own 1st point to be moot!

Your second needs referencing . . . as what you claim - i have been unable to find.

On this basis - I doubt you have much to add.

"Well, I have my opinion, but I do not refer to you as lowly or less worthy. It is just a personal preference. I ignore hadith because I have better things to do, like being righteous and work to gain a peace of mind through meditation and prayers."

Why do you think I care for your personal preferences? This is just drivel - adds nothing to the debate. But

"I ignore hadith because I have better things to do, like being righteous and work to gain a peace of mind through meditation and prayers."

Read this line of yours . . . and give it a going over!

For me - it is utter stupidity - to disregard the Hadith. Else you cannot understand even one letter of the Quran..

The quran was memorized by the minds from the first day and till today, but can you till me who is interesting in memorizing the hadiths.

There are many hadiths which found to be wrong and i can understand the quran without the hadith.

You're saying we can't understand one letter in the quran without the hadith and that isn't true and a lie.

explain to us by your understanding to the hadith the meaning of this verse

ARE, THEN, they who are bent on denying the truth not aware that the heavens and the earth were one single entity, which We then parted asunder? ? and We made out of water every living thing? Will they not, then, begin to believe? (2130)

You said that we can't understand a letter in the quran without the hadith,so i brought to you one verse to explain it
to us according to your understanding of the hadith and that is to show how liar are you.

                                    Salaam,

Thank you for the response. First, I must stress that a great number of people here do not believe in the caliphate of Rashad Khalifa. I don't.

Do you find the names of the Prophet Muhammad's parents, grandfather, tribal ancestry and the Arab tribes that surround his origins, and other genealogical data as well as valuable historical information that encompass all of the Islamic personalities (especially the Sahaba) that surround the Qur'an in the Qur'an or in the Seerah (specifically, collection of biographical ahadeeth)?

The details that you mentioned above can be found in the Seerah, yes. However, I do not find these details to be fundamental in my servitude to God. Knowing the name of Prophet Muhammad?s relatives will not make me any closer to God than knowing, well, Albert Einsten?s lineage. It is irrelevant to my spiritual development.

Islam, in my eyes, is submission to God alone. This is achieved by believing in Him, following His commandments as detailed in the Qur?aan, and always striving to do good deeds.

I use Islamic history as a historical reference only. Just like any other historical accounts, I bear it in mind that it is not one-hundred percent accurate. I believe that history is written by a winning political entity, and does not necessarily equate truth. At any rate, knowing history is great, and it does help occupy me intellectually. It does not, however, play any significant role in shaping my relationship with God. I feel God is great through the wonders of His creations, not because I read somewhere that the names of Prophet?s wives are Khadijah, ?Aishah, etc.

Without the transmission and collection of hadiths, how would we ever know what happened before, during, and after Muhammad's time and what caused the Sunni/Shia split as well as the entire history of Islam? Are we going to read secular compilations of Islamic history for historical information then?

Tell me, Brother, does knowing the causes of Sunni/Shi?a split makes you want to serve God more? Does it make you want to volunteer your time more? Does it motivate you to give more to charity? Pray tell, how inspirational is this piece of information in your spiritual growth?

What about valuable religious information? I was not never aware you can practise Salaat, and other prescribed Islamic rites, without the details that are embodied in the Hadith corpus.

That is because you have made an assumption that God wants you to worship Him in a certain, rigid manner. WHAT IF you can actually express your love and gratitude to God in your own way, in a manner that makes you even closer and humble? It is the hadiths that tell you that you have to practice Islamic rites in certain, inflexible ways.

Now let?s have some thinking exercises. We are told by the scholars that one of Islamic tenets is the shahada in which we have to bear witness that Prophet Muhammad is God?s messenger. This is based on several hadiths. Now, the Prophets before Prophet Muhammad?s time and their followers are considered Muslims in the Qur?aan. Do you think that these people bore witness that Prophet Muhammad was a messenger of God, when he did not even exist then?

Second thinking exercise. We are told that while we pray, we need to send blessings to Prophet Muhammad and his family. Do you think that Prophet Muhammad blessed himself in his prayers?

Muslims have been made to believe that it is the form that matters, rather than the essence. We worry if our prayer movements are correct, rather than bringing our hearts closer to God. We think too much about what surahs that we should read in order to get the most rewards, rather than reading the ones we actually understand and connect to.

I believe it is the essence that matters. The importance of the ?mechanics? only has its place in hadiths, and nowhere else.

I cannot see Islam even existing or materializing without the hadiths, much less without the masses of books (written by the orthodox/traditional Muslim scholars throughout history) of organization of Islamic knowledge, codification and clarification of monotheistic Islamic doctrine, compilations of Islamic traditions, canonization of Islamic lexicon and the science of Qur'anic recitation, encyclopaedia of Islamic laws and compendiums of Islamic jurisprudence (called fiqh), and organization of Islamic moral codes and Muslim ethics, that are essential for both individual practising of the religion and the regulation of collective Muslim affairs.

If hadiths are REALLY that important, and really that reliable, why do Sunnis and Shi?as have different sets of hadiths and practice differently? Tell me which hadiths are more accurate? How is the science of compiling hadiths any more accurate than that of compiling the Bible? How come there are still differing opinions and rulings within the Islamic scholars?

                                    Looking forward to your responses.

                                    Salaam.

A book - which is IMPOSSIBLE to understand without Hadith . . . you wouldn't what this letter meant - without the Hadith. . . . what is that symbol?
                                          The verse does not say
" seeking "any" source of law and guidance beside the perfect"
Hadith corpus does NOT doubt the the Quran in any way. Nor changes its position in anyway. Yet - Quran is only understandable in Arabic. . . else it isn't.

Hadith has different dialeg n linguistic from the Quran.Because look like you already study hadith, you may realize it too.
So even we read Hadith translation, we are still confused, and still need tons of tafseer books.

But if a government chooses to ban eating of horses . . . as was done by Hazrat Umar - to preserve them for War and Travel needs . . . that is allowed. Just one poor example . . . I know. But it gets the point across.

The hadith's lack is the hadith only take a quote from Prophet saying without knowing what situation Prophet says that.

ExampleFrom the story,of Muhammad (Pbuh) told Aisyah to take out curtain with pictures, and trash it.This hadith is always used by Ulamas as bases for banning human n animal pictures.
Unfortunatelly we don't know the real situation for why Muhammad (Pbuh) told Aisyah to take out the curtain, maybe he ask this because the curtain is dirty, or maybe already old.We don't know.

"Indeed, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur'an that you might understand."

Doh! And how do you learn this Arabic?

After I read some of your post, your posting style is like a strike n debating, maybe because you're still a teenager or not? I don't know.

Recently I realize, if unique of Arabic is the Arabic language is not or have little changes, from Muhammad's time to now. It's different from English language, if you ask Queen Elizabeth II to speak to her ancestor like King Arthur, she will confused because different dialeg.

How we learn Arabic?of course we must study Arabic language.

                                          Very good point )
