Is it true that Allah is God ?

    Facts

    La Illah Ila Allah
There is no god but Allah

Sura 112 The "definition provision for Allah" in the Qur'an

    Say, "He is Allah, One
    Allah, the Eternal Refuge
He neither begets nor is born
Nor is there to Him any equivalent"
    (112)

    Logical Argument

Premise 1 There are many (equivalent concept of) gods worshiped by human beings.
Premise 2 Sura 112 said Allah is One and not equivalent to god(s).

    Argument Therefore, Allah is . . . ?
    (a) God; or
    (b) not God

      Fare thee well,

God is by whatever name you use to refer to Him. God is above needing a definite name and He has a name because we fallible humans need something to use to address Him. As long as the name is not defamatory any name is okay.

So use God, Allah, Gracious, King or Master. God will not be offended for what is in your heart.

We fight over so ridiculous things.

      God bless you

        Peace muslims

At the first time I believe if Allah is different from God, but recently I change my minds.

        1. Allah is not a proper noun but common noun. The characteristics of proper nouns is this words has neutral in gender and forbidden to be translated into another languages even it can.Example Muhammad, Malaysia, Siti Nurhaliza etc.

The word "Allah" is masculine in gender and it's feminine form is "Allata" / (the main rules of feminine/muannatz is ta' in the last word). This word appeared in ayat 5319.
Because of this the word "Allah" can be translated into another language "God".

2)The God-god term. This term is part of the english language.

Usage of "God" is used for Monetheist Abraham a.k.a Islam, Christian, Judaism etc, example God Jesus.

Usage of "god" is for outside Abraham Monotheistic, example god Visnu, god Quan Im etc.

The Christian and Judaism Arabs also used the word "Allah" for mention their Lord.

But this term is not applicated in our language (Tuhan). In our languge we must use capital T for mentions God and another gods.
Because of this to made distinction between our Tuhan with anothers Tuhan, we didn't translate Allah.

In Indonesia, Christians in here using the word "Allah" for mentioning their Lord.Maybe christians in your country also do the same.

        Proof watch this videos YOUTUBE

or read this Indonesian Bible translation http//www.jesoes.com/

Btw the word Allah and l-ilah is still different words, because merging Al and ilah into "Allah" has no rule in Arabic.

        Peace

Salam Man of Faith and Earthdom

I agree with you and we can call Allah with any Best Identifiers. There is also no harm to call Allah as God/god since it is also referred in the Qur'an. These are not the issue. The real issue is whether it is "most accurate" to make Allah equivalent to the same category of god(s). This is so since we have specific Sura that define Allah; ie. Sura al-Ikhlas, where Allah denies He is equivalent to god(s), and "There is no god but Allah".

          Peace brother.

Whether to claim Allah is "God" means to set in our mind and belief system that there is...

            God in Islam
            God(s) in Christianity
            God(s) in Hinduism
            God(s) in Buddhism

            God(s) in Confucianism

            God(s) in ...
            God(s) in ...

and Allah is the only one true God among those gods
which means, we make Allah equivalents to other gods worshiped by human beings

Nor is there to Him any equivalent <- including the concept of "God", it is not equivalent

So, according to your understanding of verse 1124, even if we call ALLAAH, Arrahmaan, Arraheem, Alhaiy, Alqaiyoom, and so forth, we are still setting up equivalents for Him, right?

You're true if there are no equivalent for Allah/God, but what I and Man of Faith means is about english grammar not about philosophy.

Allah and God is one thing, Allah in Arabic is God in english.

                  Arabic = Indo-Malay = English
Tiada Tuhan Selain Allah (There is) no god but God.

Like I said in previous post if the word "Allah" is not a name.

                  God in Islam
                  God(s) in Christianity
                  God(s) in Hinduism

                  God(s) in Paganism

                  Let me correct;

                  God in Islam
                  God in Christian.
                  god(s) in Buddhism
                  god(s) in Sikhism
                  god(s) in Zoroastrianism

                  god(s) in Taoism
                  god(s) in Paganism

                    Salam

I'm referring to the use of "God", and its relation to Allah and Sura al-Ikhlas; ie. the definition provision for Allah in the Qur'an.

Is it true that Allah is God ?

Therefore, you should rephrase your question as follows

                    Is it true that...

                    Allah is God?
                    Arrahmaan is God?
                    Arraheem is God?
                    Alhaiy is God?
                    Alqaiyoom is God?

                    Peace.

                      Salam,

I understand your point, the difference is between capital "G" and "g". "God" is not equal to "god". Unfortunately, all other religions are using capital "G" when referring to their gods. Therefore, it is still referring and equivalents to the same concept of gods worshiped by human beings. Similarly, there is a difference in names for Mercedes, BMW, Toyota, Nissan, Ferrari, Land Rover, Lamborghini, Mitsubishi, Renault, Alfa Romeo, Austin Martin, Citroen, Fiat, Prosche, Kia, Mini, Audi, Dodge and Mazda etc. However, it is equivalents and all these names are referring to "Cars" or "cars".

What if someone asks you what "car" are you driving?

Can you answer I'm driving a "Car"?

You are going to say that "Car" is not equivalent to "car"?

Salaam muslims. What about ? Rabb is always translated into Lord (with capital L). Does that mean it is also wrong? Are you saying that Allah, the Arabic word is the only His true name? What about YHVH, Eloah etc?

Sura 112 The "definition provision for Allah" in the Qur'an

There is also no harm to call Allah as God/god since it is also referred in the Qur'an. These are not the issue.

                              Salaam diamantinehoneybunch,

I'm referring to a "definition or interpretation provision/sura". It is a sura or provision that defines words in the Qur'an. Similarly, we have a "The Interpretation Act 1978 (UK)", "The Interpretation Act 1987 (NSW)", or an interpretation provision in every statutory acts; "In this Act the following words and expressions are used in the following senses, unless a contrary intention appears from the context"; Section 2 in every statutory legislation, or an interpretation clause in every Contracts.

Therefore, Allah can use any names or identifiers; whether it is Rabb, Ar-Rahman, Ar-Raheem, God, god, YHVH, Eloah etc, but all these names are subject to the interpretation provision in the Qur'an; ie. Sura al-Ikhlas, a sura that define the actual meaning of Allah.

Why would Allah use similar concepts? Maybe because human beings only understand the concept of "gods" for creations. However, this is not definite and human will understand the actual concept of Allah after becoming a Believer. The understanding of Allah is a "life process" but not the end descriptions or meanings of Allah. It is not something that can be taken for granted or achieve through academical process, but a privilege, and dependent on the level of our faith.

                              Peace

                                Salaam,

To say "I am driving a Toyota" is not entirely correct language, but we do it anyway in daily conversation. The use of a proper noun with an article is special in this regard. Toyota substitutes car as an object.

Toyota is a name just as God.

Allah is the name of God in not only Islam for Arabic speaking people, so it is a poor argument in my opinion. Allah's meaning is the same as its English counterpart, as I explained in an earlier post.

                                God bless you

Toyota is a name just as God.

                                  Salaam,

You are saying "Toyota is a name just as God"

Therefore you are saying "God" is a name (for Allah).

And you are saying "God" is not equivalent to "god".

The difference is the capital "G" and lower case "g".

Similarly, other religion also claiming the capital "G" is referring to their "God". They are saying Allah is with lower case "god", the same way you are claiming to their gods. The following is a list of "God" names worshiped by human beings.

"C"ar" or "c"ar" Mercedes, BMW, Toyota, Nissan, Ferrari etc....

"God" is not equal to "god"
"Car" is not equal to "car"
"Cat" is not equal to "cat"
"Cow" is not equal to "cow"

                                        Salaam,

Feels like talking to a machine here which just responds with syntax error and then syntax suggestions, but I say this the capital 'G', like I already said thrice I think, has the same meaning in the formulation of Allah, ie the 'al' of Allah. Arabic has no capital letters and thus it uses 'al' both in definite nouns and certain proper nouns as I understood as an emphasis. The 'al' in Allah is exactly the same as putting 'G' on God. Grammatically it is difficult to compare languages, but this got to be the way it works.

Certainly other religions may call their god God, but other religions have also called god Allah, so there is really no advantage using Allah over God in that regard.

Saying 'god' is like saying 'lah'. Saying 'God' is like saying 'Allah'.

And if I am wrong with the formalities please correct me since I am no expert at Arabic but using my reason and logic. But English I master well enough to say God would substitute Allah according to my reasoning.

Languages have different ways to emphasize on words and English often uses capitalization and as far as I have observed Arabic had its 'al'. Is it not logical? Thinking of al-rahman, al-raheem, al-adheem etc. This 'al' is used in many instances and I know it is a definite article, but it is put on words that would normally indicate a proper noun in English like Gracious, Merciful. The way we normally handle these ones is wrong, ie many people say 'the Merciful' while it would seem to be an optional name of God preventing the use of 'the'. In that case it would be like with 'the Toyota' I talked about driving before.

The name God has been abused by polytheists, but so has Allah.

Note that people seldom refer to their polytheistic religion's god as God but their respective name or attributes. "God + role + real name" is commonly used.

Anyway, after this I say like Earthdom. "I give up!". If you feel it is wrong to call God 'God' call Him Allah. I only wanted to prove it is not blasphemous or disrespectful to say 'God' to our Lord.

I still stand by my opinion that God has no definite name and He only bears a name that we minions have something to relate to. God uses many dozens of names in Quran just to refer to Himself. Mainly it is Allah being used though, but that has the same meaning as if He hypothetically would say God. And he uses Allah and not lah as he is a unique being so it is Allah and if it would be English then God. It is as easy as that.

I wonder how one can waste so much time on this matter anyway. I hope what I said had any argumentative effect. Guess I wanted to help people to see that we are not restricted to Arabic when it comes to God's religion. God does never run out of words and that includes any language.

                                        God bless you

What is your problem? Allah is the noun, translated in English = god.

It is like in Italian language if you say Non c'e dio salvo iddio=la ilaha il'allah.

Anyway, read this and educate yourself
