    Oneness
There is nothing in existence other than Him

It is the hallucination of many. If there was nothing in existence, who would have known the existence of the Absolute one. Existentials prove that He the Exalted exists despite not being in vision-image of all who are the creations of Him.

The only fact is that Nothing is the part or a segment of Him the Exalted

Moreover, they declare associating with Him the Exalted some amongst His creatures-subjects as an isolated part.
It is true that the Man is certainly and manifestly ungratefully denier of realities and facts.

      Salam

I'm referring to a "definition or interpretation provision/sura". It is a sura or provision that defines words in the Qur'an. Similarly, we have a "The Interpretation Act 1978 (UK)", "The Interpretation Act 1987 (NSW)", or an interpretation provision in every statutory acts; "In this Act the following words and expressions are used in the following senses, unless a contrary intention appears from the context"; Section 2 in every statutory legislation, or an interpretation clause in every Contracts.

Therefore, Allah can use any names or identifiers; whether it is Rabb, Ar-Rahman, Ar-Raheem, God, god, YHVH, Eloah etc, but all these names are subject to the interpretation provision in the Qur'an; ie. Sura al-Ikhlas, a sura that define the actual meaning of Allah.

Why would Allah use similar concepts? Maybe because human beings only understand the concept of "gods" for creations. However, this is not definite and human will understand the actual concept of Allah after becoming a Believer. The understanding of Allah is a "life process" but not the end descriptions or meanings of Allah. It is not something that can be taken for granted or achieve through academical process, but a privilege, and dependent on the level of our faith.

REFER HERE Understanding the Qur'an and Allah

Can we understand Allah if we cannot even understand the Qur'an?

Indeed, IT IS A NOBLE QURAN
In a protected Book <- Who can unlock if Allah protect its true understanding?
      None can grasp it
except those purified (from shirk) <- The key to understand the Qur'an
(5677-79) The key to obedience (refer here and here)

Rather, they have denied that which they encompass not in knowledge <- ie. made equivalent
and whose interpretation has not yet come to them
Thus did those before them deny
Then observe how was the end of the wrongdoers
      (1039)

The Qur'an is not about Allah, but about His creations.

      Peace

How do the words "only" and "fears the Most Merciful" in the above ayat support your assertion that the "Grand Qur'aan then tells them about His Self in greater details"?

          Can you explain?

            Salaam,

What is the issue of this thread then? If God is a god in traditional sense?

God according to Quran is the only god in existence. There is only one god and that is God (or Allah as you want to put it). I posted the definition for God before.

I think this thread is a bit elusive. The title suggests that it tries to discuss whether or not God is equal to Allah in terms of word usage.

I must be stupid as I could not get the gist of what you are discussing.

            God bless you

Qur'aan is the Message-Verbal Discourse of Ar-Rehmaan, Allah the Exalted. Unless one recognizes Allah, His message is of no relevance for such person.

Sorry, I still don't understand how does your ayat relates to our discussion. Further, the discussions about knowing or recognizing Allah is totally irrelevant since many are still unable to avoid the "DO NOT" prohibitions in the Qur'an, including me; eg. 5101. Therefore, it is more of a wishful thinking to discuss or admit we are able to recognize Allah.

                  Refer here

                  Level of Shirk

Therefore our primary question in life is how far we are able to control the ideas within ourselves?

For the sake of testing ourselves and to realize the gods and ulamas inside ourselves, try to stop eating, drinking and sleeping for 3 straight days (72 hours) (ie. make a promise to yourselves). Are we able to achieve this target or we are still hypocrites? This is not suggested by the Qur'an, and only a simple self-test to prove the existence of gods and ulamas inside ourselves. A simple test to realize the flow of ideas within ourselves and how far we are able to control these ideas.

                  Do the people think
that they will be left to say,
                  "We believe"
and they will not be tried?

But We have certainly tried those before them
and Allah will surely make evident
                  those who are truthful
and He will surely make evident
                  the liars

Or do those who do evil deeds think they can outrun Us?

I am referring only to your statement

Can we understand Allah if we cannot even understand the Qur'an?

You are prioritizing Qur'aan upon Allah the Exalted. You fear Allah and the accountability on the Day of Resurrection and you will start understanding Qur'aan because it is His Word. Words loose value unless you recognize, rever and fear Him whose words one is reading. First recognize and rever Allah the Exalted and His Messenger who relayed Qur'aan. Merely understanding the meanings of Qur'aan is waste of energy and time unless one acts upon it in reverence and fear of the Sustainer Lord.

                        Salam

I'm not prioritizing Qur'an upon Allah, but I'm proving how ridiculous for someone to claim they know or recognize Allah when he can't even understand the true message of the Qur'an. It is their wishful thinking and an assertion made without any basis or logical explanation. These are also the types of claims that are normally made by those who are deviating from the true path; ie. direct connection with Allah, son of God etc. It's a lie and fake!

comparison on the difficulty of "understanding the Qur'an" vs. "understanding of Allah".

the discussions about knowing or recognizing Allah is totally irrelevant since many are still unable to avoid the "DO NOT" prohibitions in the Qur'an, including me; eg. 5101. Therefore, it is more of a wishful thinking to discuss or admit we are able to recognize Allah.

Therefore, it is best for us to first learn becoming a "True Muslim" (not yet a believer) and understand the Qur'an before claiming extraordinary knowledge relating to Allah.

How can someone becoming a Muslim without first obeying the "DO NOT" prohibitions in the Qur'an?

How can someone becoming a Believer without first becoming a Muslim?

How can someone becoming a True Believer without first becoming a Mukmeen (Believer)?

How can someone becoming a Auliya without first becoming a True Believer?

How can someone claim to know and recognize Allah without first becoming a Auliya?
                        (refer here and here)

They follow not except assumption, and indeed, assumption avails not against the truth at all (5328)(278).

                          ie. direct connection with Allah

I'm uncertain whether I understand what you mean by this.
Are you saying that "direct connection with Allah" is a lie and fake (by those who claim it)? Just wondering.

                          Secondly,
I do agree that people often seem to think they have things very much figured out regarding God, scriptures and life. It seems they have adopted a fixed belief, and then they hold this package of belief as THE truth. I say, how ludicrous!

So, generally I say; anyone who doesn't realize that we virtually don't have a clue about God and life, have not gained much wisdom or insight at all. It's foolish to think we know what God is and how things really work. We don't know a sh*t. When we let go of this obsession to judge everything, no matter how mundane, harmless or innocent, then we start moving towards freedom and peace... and new door will open. All we can do is to strive for betterment and purification. To do this we MUST be very humble, and surrender all useless judgement about what happens in the stream of life around us. We must surrender the harmful habit of judgement. I say, only fools think that they HAVE in possession, right now, the final and unchanging truth. Only fools think of God and life in static and unchanging terms. Never changing your perspective on things means we are stuck up in whatever current illusion we are in. Unless we have perfect knowledge, we must expect our perspective to change as we increase in understanding and insight. No change in perspective, including religion, should be a warning bell. Ironically, religion is the area which is most infested with static and unchanging dogma.
They they'll perhaps ask you whether you want God's laws to be changed all the time. Well, God's laws do not change, but let us not be so arrogant that we think we understand God's laws to such a perfect and excellent degree that there will never be any need for us to change our views, perspectives and beliefs.

                          Such are my general thoughts.
                          Peace and all the best!
                          I like your posts alot!

I see. Thanks for the clarification!
I tend to agree. One revelation from Allah cannot contradict another revelation from Allah, as all revelations from Allah by definition are truth, or they are not from Allah. Truth is truth.
                              Peace!

Anything that is defined properly is then matching the definition of God.

If someone describes Shiva in the correct fashion, as many of the epithets and scriptures do at times, then they are speaking about the same thing as something else with the same definition. An apple is an apple even if it is called pomme in French, it is about the definition involved.

I worship Shiva, Odin, Tezcatlipoca, Wakan Tanka, Vishnu, Vac, Logos, Brahman, Dharmakaya, Lucifer, Satan, and whatever other term can be carefully defined correctly and applied to the same concept.

So where some people love to say "We just worship one God less than you" in fact we are a full and foremost member and proponent of most religions, from the Ancient Egyptian worship of Amun and Amun-Ra, to the monotheism of the Chinese with Shangdi.

Allah in Quran says that to Him belongs the better names, al asma'a al husna, so e.g. Satan cannot be one of them, as it is associated with evildoing.

That is a good point, but "Enemy", as in any of the other names of God, is just a matter of truth. To some people, God is their enemy and adversary, and is the controller of all the enemies and adversaries, so is the ultimate enemy or adversary in all cases.

The term Allah is associated with evil too, by many people, yet it is continuing to be used. To others names like Shiva and Vishnu are considered evil by others, yet Shiva means Auspicious and God is the only Auspicious one, and Vishnu means Pervading, and only God is the pervading.

Likewise, God is the killer. Multiple times the Qur'an says "deals death" so Death Dealer. One can make of any number of names, it is good if they are true, but they can also be designations like the letter A can be designated with a certain definition applied to it. In the case of Greek, the letters Alpha and Omega were given and had a particular meaning in those languages too that applied to God.

Lucifer is generally applied to evil, particularly by the Christians, yet it means "light bearer" and God is the truest and only true Light Bearer in both the literal and figurative sense, whereas the term Lucifer in the Vulgate Latin Bible was also used of Jesus, though is most true in the sense of God who is the Ultimate.

Calling God "Limited" is false, calling God "Formed" is false, things like that, though even those can be defined carefully and the definitions be made more true.

The "praises" of God are all just factual statements about the true nature of the Ultimate. It is just a matter of speaking the truth.

Satan is a prime enemy to humankind but there can be no greater enemy to anyone than God and God controls all the enemies.

My purpose for associating these words, however controversial it may seem, is actually to reduce the dichotomy and dualism people create in their imaginations and empower people, so that no matter where you turn or whatever you might be attracted to God is behind all the themes and is always the Ultimate.

There is no other power, no power of evil besides God, there is nothing at all to fear but God who is the most frightening, the most fearful of all who also controls all fear and all the frightening experiences we can possibly have and can create all sorts. Lord of the Monsters, King of the Torments, the Terrible, the Insidious, Terror of the Wise and Thoughtful. These to me are beautiful names and represent the truth also. With me, there is no dichotomy, and you can read more about this and Satan in the "Shaytan and Anger" thread where I've posted something rather long.

Is it true that Allah is God ?

                                        Facts
                                        لا إله إلا الله

                                        La Illah Ila Allah
There is no god but Allah

Sura 112 The "definition provision for Allah" in the Qur'an

                                        Say, "He is Allah, One
                                        Allah, the Eternal Refuge
He neither begets nor is born
Nor is there to Him any equivalent"
                                        (112)

                                        Logical Argument

Premise 1 There are many (equivalent concept of) gods worshiped by human beings.
Premise 2 Sura 112 said Allah is One and not equivalent to god(s).

                                        Argument Therefore, Allah is . . . ?
                                        (a) God; or
                                        (b) not God

Sura 112 isn't saying that Allah is One, but He is Allah, One, so He is One.
