Pride is said to be the deadliest of all sins, and the source of them all

Now, what if we were to suspect (or assume) that QA Iblys () = AG Hybris ()
Wouldn't that simply mean that Lust, Greed, Sloth, Envy, Ire, ... etc, are actually the 'Seed of Iblys' ?

It's nowhere mentioned in Quran if Iblis' pride was unrightful. Is it out of place for an Angel, close to God to have pride? Can we as humans judge angels on their actions? Iblis was among the jinn. Most likely any non-material manifestation of "thought" and "feelings" can be Jinn - both the bad and good.

PRIDE is the root of all evil..
From that came Hatred, Envy, Restless..
Those who has PRIDE will never experienced Peace..

The easiest way to detect evil is to detect the presence of PRIDE..
The easiest way to detect peace is to detect the presence of HUMILITY..

"And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth in humility, and when the ignorant address them, they say Peace."
          (2563)

"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted."
          Matt (2312)

?Reverence, humility, contentment, gratitude and hearing the good Dhamma, this is the best good deeds. And the greatest prayer is patience?

This is self-contradicting. Iblis is 'malak'. Shaytan is not 'malak'.

@hicham9 I recommend you to read the verses on Iblis again. And pay careful attention to where it says how and when Iblis will be judged for his decision not to commit sujud to man.

If you can read you will see it tells us Iblis will be judged on the Last Day.

Why are you already judging Iblis when God has given Iblis respite? Just like everyone of us btw.

The word Shaitaan refers to an evil spirited person, no matter whom. This can be used in plural.

Totally ignoring the literary structure where Iblis gets interchanged with Shaytaan. Ignoring how Shaytaan was appointed as vice-regent in this world. Are all evil-spirited persons vice-regents over this world, Man of Faith?

It does actually never say that Ebless becomes Shaitaan. That is an inference of yours.

Shaitaan is used in plural in Qur'an. Do you say that is a mass-apparition of Shaitaan everywhere. The person who resembles Shaitaan bears that spirit. Shaitaan is even attributed in that passage.

214 And if they come across those who have believed, they say ?We believe,? and when they are alone with their devils they say ?We are with you, we were only mocking.?

Disclaimer I do not stand behind above translation.

Shaitaan is an attributed term for someone who resembles a being which is evil spirited. That word has in all ages been used as a curse word to call someone evil-minded and of evil deeds.

Here on Earth; our desires and the fleshly temptations of our primitive instincts is basically what is Shaitaan to us. We need to stand above them, and separate the spirit from the flesh as Jesus taught. We do not want to succumb to Shaitaan.

Iblis does not mean pride. Please take a look at 644 and 3012 where the derivative of Iblis is used.

Iblis means to loose hope or one being without hope.

You attribute this to me. But quite literally Quran tells us this. Not explicitly though, but if you pay attention to chronology of events after Iblis gets cast out, it's the only valid explanation. I could prove this but it would require a whole lot of quotes from Quran that I already covered in an earlier post on this matter. You can find this out yourself if you look at Iblis promise as described in Quran (deceiving and misleading people) and compare that to the properties of Shaytan (deceiving and misleading people so they stray from Gods path). It's the promise/declared intention (Iblis) and the execution of it (Shaytan).

Shaitaan is used in plural in Qur'an. Do you say that is a mass-apparition of Shaitaan everywhere. The person who resembles Shaitaan bears that spirit. Shaitaan is even attributed in that passage.

In some places its plural other places it's singular. More than likely God uses the word also for people/jinn or behaviour that mimics that of Shaytan.

In my native language as well the word devil or satan is used metaphorically. That however does not prove Satan is a person or can be just reduced to evil spirited thoughts/impulses. If you do, you are confusing cause and effect.

                            right.

It is when Iblis disobeys God because he sets himself what is becoming for him to do and what is not, that he starts to be called shaytan. Obivously, he is not the the only one, since there is more than one shaytan, since in the Qur'an the word is used several times in the plural referring to more than two shayatin.

And Ibliis was indeed a malak, a covered one, or may be, starting from the meaning of j-n-n un "under cover" malak?

may be jinns are under cover being who hide deep in men's psychis... Since the Qur'an does not use words haphazardly, it may be that their task is precisely to work that way dep buried in the psychis, so that we have a hard time distinguishing whare are real being lies and where the being within our folds starts, be it an evil one or a real angel who takes care of us. The same as microbes and viruses, do good to our body or harm it, our psychis is also worked on by beings which may be a good influence or a bad one.

My take on the plural forms of Shaytan used in Quran

                              1. Metaphorically used for a person - as people also call other people the devil sometimes
                              2. Iblis was affiliated to the Jinn. This means within the Jinn there is a large followership of him. Jinn following Shaytan would be called shaytan as well as much as human person being dishonest can be called a true devil.

                                @MoF

                                Check 1850 kna mina l-jini

Traditionally understood as he was one of the Jinn, he was among the Jinn

Both these understandings result in self-contradiction within the Quran. Especially where it states Iblis is among the Angels.

Either it means 'to become Jinn' or it means 'to be associated with them'/'have a preference for them'.

So either it's talking about a transformation or it's pointing to Iblis' preference to the Jinn over Adam.

Regardless of which interpretation you chose there, there is a perfect match between with what Iblis proclaims to do with this newly created being (man) deceive and misguide them and the qualities of Shaytaan everywhere the word is mentioned.

No. It is because Shaitaan is a tag following a certain behavior.

Qur'an's context is exceedingly abstract in its conveyance. A Shaitaan IS an evil spirited person. Even the word itself means that in Arabic. . The last two letters mark 'be entity' while is associate substance evil... BE ENTITY. Qur'an keep its language on a very abstract level since this is how the realm works. Arabic words are very descriptive in their meaning.

kna mina l-jini means "cause one to be thereof faithless", in a literal translation. His kind of disservice caused him to be of the faithless.

It still does not erase the fact of whom your Shaitaan is, to which the Shaitaan is. Shaitaan is a label due to its very descriptive origin. It is not like you will ever see Shaitaan in your life but it is entirely a stray spirit that which you can succumb to. Just as you can "tune in" with Allah/God's spirit, you can also "tune in" with the spirit of Shaitaan and be a Shaitaan.

                                      Have faith

Your interpretation of 'literal' translation of Jinn leads to more contradiction as Quran tells us there a both faithful and faithless Jinn. So the faithful faithless is possible in your book?

                                        Salam All,

                                        Consider this

                                        AQ.06112

And thus We have made for every prophet an enemy - devils from mankind and jinn, inspiring to one another decorative speech in delusion. But if your Lord had willed, they would not have done it, so leave them and that which they invent.

There are devils among the Jinns and devils among mankind who inspire each other and who will oppose and rebel against the prophets and become their adversaries.

Shaytan comes from sh-y-T, and is the same word-form as rahmaan, sh-y-T is tu burn, so shayaTeen are those who are allburning, which is in fact an apt description of somebody who is consumed by his or her own fire. It does not have to be a particular shape or mode of creature, but just to fullfill that characteristic, just as jinn, is someone or something covered without getting into further depths for which we may not have Qura'nic indications. Therefore, somebody covered can be good or bad, but somebody burning, self and all consuming, seems as if it could not be good, only bad, except of course when used against other bad ones, in which case it does a service to those who are harmed by those others, and the Qur'an also speaks about that kind of way of God of using bad ones against bad ones to preserve people.
According to Qur'an, Iblis, besides being a covered one, because of his behaviour not obeying God, besides a jinn became also a shayTan covered and burning. Therefore not because of its jinness did he become bad, but because of shaytaness.

                                          Salaam
