Salam Imran,

The numbering issue was put to bed a number of months ago and the current version on-line as well as the physical book both use the more popular
Hafsnumbering. As for the current changes being incorporated (basically the Salat translation to bond) that will still be some weeks from appearing as a physical book...I will update this thread accordingly when the process is complete.

Arnold,
I don't see your article on Jinns (Human Leaders??).

I second that.

Peace,
Here is the link
http//www.free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=6089.0But i don't believe specificaly means leaders. It has multiple meanings, as walking beings refer to multiple creatures, so does the term jinn=beings/things concealed/hidden, refer to multiple things.

Peace,
I prefer to have salat either leave it as untranslated as salat, (like jinn) or leave it as translated as ?contact-method?. Because the scripture loses its meaning with this translation of the term salat ?the bond?. See verse 89 26
?Nor will anyone be able to free his bonds.?
Obviously, I don?t think this is referring to ?salat?.Just a suggestion!

I am open to suggestions on what is the
bestapproach and best word(s) used.I have already posted on the Jinn issue that I am against leaving words untranslated as that defeats the purpose of the translation.
We can revert to
contact-methodand leave the verses of Sura 9 with the wordsbond/bondingor evencommitment? -
Peace,
Layth, is it also not possible you translate it as you want, and put the word salaat between brackets next to the word. So everyone can see the 'bond' aproach, and at the same time people are not turned off, as they still can see where it says salaat.

It is possible, however, my preference is to avoid words in quotations/brackets.

Peace,
Hmmm, i still don't like the word 'bond'. But that would be an idea yeah...

Salaam Layth,
Will capitalizing make it just like a proper name (while it's not)? What do you think?
=adley=
Yeah, it'd probably be better to italicize it, not capitalize. That way, the reader becomes aware this is something special and not just bond in the traditional generic sense. Perhaps, a footnote on the page the first "salat" appears would do well to explain the italicized bond.
Peace.

I am not an expert on the gramatics of English so I am not sure if it would be incorrect to capitlize and still retain the
actionaspect of the word...Would using italics be more correct? or would it add some confusion? -

how about bold? It will stand out. And What I really like about Khalifa's translation was he'd put important arabic words in parentheses next to the translated word. For example
Contact Prayers (Salat)

My 2 cents I really love contact method. It is general enough to encompass all forms of salat yet not so general that it loses it's meaning in the context. bond just seems like an already heavily loaded word with too many pre-conceived notions, while contact method is a relatively newly coined term. I think only quran only folks actually ever heard of such a term before, and so it has less extra baggage than the word bond. Bond to my ears just sounds really generic and doesn't fit the description well enough in all instances. In my opinion, changing the font in any way won't really convey any stronger of a meaning or a different shade of meaning other than just simply 'bond'.

It can be kept as contact-method, with the exception of the verses where it is refering to a bond/commitment (such as sura 9).
I believe the best way to resolve this issue is to run a poll.
