Are Progressive Muslims Demolishing Islam?
-
Since the beginning of the movement, Progressive Muslims have created many questions in there attempt to redefine Islam. Many of these questions were developed simply on the basic of rejecting anything within Islam that is considered traditional.
I know there are many aspects on the mainstream religion that needs to be reevaluated, but are Progress Muslims demolishing Islam by blatantly and subjectively rejecting any elements of Islam simply because it an traditional view point (for example ritual salat, zakat, etc)?

No, its still too early. We need to be more tough about how Islam is being talked about. We have a lot of work to do. We ned to improve Islam's image.

Never left, just paused. Do you think Progressive Muslims Demolishing Islam?

Yes, they are taking a wrecking ball to the 5 pillars that hold up the sky.

I dont really know that much about Islam, so I wouldn't know.
-
islam as in sunnism etc is being demolished
it is like breaking a hole in the huge sectarian wall which is keeping people away from progress and development
islam (untranslated word) as a natural way of existing cannot be demolished, it is the core of progressive living. it can however be covered by layers of stagnant dogma, which is mostly the case. islam is not known for what it really is at heart, it is generally associated with various secterian faith systems

It funny that you are quick to throw sarcasm (like your supporters), but you know its true. Many within PM are blatantly "taking a wrecking ball to the 5 pillars" without just reason. The are trying to demolish it simply because it is a traditional view. Not only with the "pillars" but within anything they deem traditional. That to me is demolishing Islam. You dont agree I guess?

I understand, but what if there a elements with sunnism for example that a true and indeed the way of submission (islam). People who subjectively and blatantly attack those elements simply because the are considered traditional or sunnism would be demolishing Islam to a degree. Do you really believe that every aspect of the traditional view of Islam has no justification? I think PM should be more logical in there approach.

There is a balance. Sometimes tradition is correct. Other times, tradition is based on hearsay, conjecture and baseless narrations. What "supporters"? Sorry, this is not Ahl-Hadeeth, everyone here supports themselves, if we are talking about supporting/upholding humans..

Peace,
Yes, 'they' are destroying a man-made, idolatrous, nonsensical, superstitious religion known today as 'Islam.'
Of course what 'Islam' really means is a different issue.
SHM, you are generalizing way too much (too familiar these days). And yet again with no evidence. They are many here that uphold things from sunni-ism because it makes sense. Every 'religion' has some good things in it. I haven't encountered anyone here who is against traditional ideas just because it's traditional. That is illogical.

Maybe you are correct about my generalization, but there are many in here you reject anything simply because is it "traditional" or base on historical understand.

Peace SatanHatesMe,
I agree that any kind of rejection shouldn't be as easy as asking "is it traditional?"; but can you blame any one of us, who have been abused by the tradition you speak of, for trying to create some distance between ourselves and it? That we are skeptical of it? That we resist it stronger than before, as we have learnt the consequence of blindly following its lead?
I know, some will try to twist the scripture too promote their own agenda. I'm not too sure, though, that the pioneers of such deceit are among the sola scriptura. If you catch my drift.

I would say yes.
IMHO they are creating a stepping stone to leaving Islam entirely.
It seems to me that many of those here have subconciously already left Islam - but are still so emotionally attached, that they have created an Islam that is not Islam, so they can do what they want, yet still pretend to be Muslims.
It seems strange to me.
But humans are capable of remoulding anything. It has been done with other religions - and it seems it is being done with Islam.
But since I believe Islam is man-made anyway - I say good luck to them - at least they aren't blowing stuff up.
