Peace,
Respectfully. To Whom Do I Give The Charity?
They ask you about giving say, "The charity you give shall go to the parents, the relatives, the orphans, the poor, and the traveling alien." Any good you do, GOD is fully aware thereof. What To Give To Charity?
They ask you about intoxicants and gambling say, "In them there is a gross sin, and some benefits for the people. But their sinfulness far outweighs their benefit." They also ask you what to give to charity say, "The excess." GOD thus clarifies the revelations for you, that you may reflect,When Do I Give Cahrity?
He is the One who established gardens, trellised and untrellised, and palm trees, and crops with different tastes, and olives, and pomegranate - fruits that are similar, yet dissimilar. Eat from their fruits, and give the due alms on the day of harvest, and do not waste anything. He does not love the wasters.Glory be to our God Who has given us a Perfect Book - The Quran.
Glory be to our God.

Peace be upon you,
Zakaat is not charity, it is purification. Sadaqa is charity.
-
Thanks for the replies.
Does this mean that 2.5% zakat isn't required? It can be 1%?

Respectfully.Since you know Arabic better then me, then explain this to me what does sadaaka mean and what does zakaat mean? Also can you tell me the differenc between charity and purification?
Thanks.Glory be to our God.

Peace be upon you Alen,
Since you know Arabic better then me
Because I have input in this discussion, I know Arabic beter than you? That is not sound reasoning. I am not your enemy.
then explain this to me what does sadaaka mean and what does zakaat mean?
I just stated that in my last post ) Sadaqa is charity and Zakaat is purification.
Also can you tell me the differenc between charity and purification?
Charity is giving the excess of what you have, that which you dont need to help others, to create a balance in the world where there are not 5% of the world hoarding goods while the rest suffers, etc.
Purification, in the context of this message is cleaning out your subconcious(nafs) of the wrong thoughts, images, ideas, etc. Remember, this message tells us about the nafs(subconcious/spirit), .....thos who PURIFY IT suceed, those who corrupt it fail.
So maintain salaat(programming of the nafs) and bring forth zakaat(purification of it).

Respectfully. No, i think you misunderstood. I wasn't being sarcastic and i'm sorry if i was rude, but i thoguth you knew Arabic better then me because you pointed the difference.
I just thought that sadaka and zakat meant the same.
I'm trying to learn the Arabic myself, it's going slow but it's going.
AlhamdilAllah.
Anyhow, thanks for clarification.Glory be to our God.
God bless you all.

Then my apologies, it was my incorrect thinking that led to the wrong belief, but since you have explained now I know. Good example of how knowledge is superior to belief.
I am far from a master of Arabic, I only have been on Free Minds since its creation and there are (and have been) many knowledgeable Arabic speakers who have helped me understand CONCEPTS. One of the biggest lessons I learned was from brother Ayman about how words with the same root carry a certain basic meaning that is modified in its different forms. I feel myself starting to ramble so I will stop there, but as we continue the discussion, I will try to provide verses that you may look at to decide for yourself.
I just thought that sadaka and zakat meant the same.
No, they are different. Take a look at the verses containing both words, thats the best way to clarify the situation.

AlhamdilAllah.
Anyhow, thanks for clarification.Much success to you, hopefully you will be another one who will help me understand the CONCEPTS with your understanding of Arabic. You are welcome for the clarification.

Salaam lies exposed. As you can see there is much debate as to the meaning of the word Zakat. There is a reason for this debate. the word Zakat entered the Arabic language from another Semitic language. As a result there is confusion amongst Arabic speakers as to what Zakat means.
Customarily Arabic speakers define Zakat as either pruning or purification. Both definitions are correct. The connection between the two is not obvious at first glance.
May Allah forgive me for an error. Allah's hukum in the Torah is that the firstfruits of a harvest belong to Allah. The proportion is prescribed in the Torah. Once this portion of Allah's is given to Allah, the remaining harvest is purified. By pruning mans harvest, man is purified. The term harvest applies to all the results of human endeavor. A persons wages are a harvest.
As an example, there is a tree. The tree will grow and quite often the branches will go in a direction that may cause the tree to collapse, or the branches may become weak and thin. Pruning the tree keeps the weight of the tree centered on the root, and it makes the branches thicker. The result of the pruning is fewer bigger sweeter fruit, instead of many small poor tasting fruit. Zakat prunes and purifies man.
Allah raises man by stages.

I'm a bit confused. Sunnis and shias pay 2.5% zakat every year. How much do quranites pay?
-
Peace to all
wel lies exposed, i can be considered a Quranite and I try to give as much as I can every payday, I dont usually calculate it to a percentage, I just see how much I have left after I pay a few bills and buy a few necessities, if I have enough to make it to next pay day I will usually give away about 50 $ cash to someone in my community that i think needs it most. I started doing this a couple years ago and gave mostly to the elderly, recently ive been giving to the younger adults who are trying to start and raise a family. I just pay attention to my community and if i hear a story about someone going through a hard time for some reason I will usually go to them and give them whatever I have available at the time. They seem to really appreciate it, even though it may only help them very little in the long run, but just imagine if alot of us were doing this, there would be alot less suffering and sadness in the world.

Peace be upon you,
Yes, that would be the excess, just as this teaching(quran) instructs. Sunnis pay 2.5% because they dont understand the message and are blindly following the footsteps of those who dont know this message. All one has to do is look at the verses containing sadaqa and look at the verses containing zakaat to get the proper understanding of the situation. It is only after one has done the WORK that one can see clearly. We cannot be like those who wait around to be fed the information, we have to do the work. We have to exert energy at this, not sit by passively.

Respectfully.Oh my God. That's what i was saying all this time, bro. I always say that if a lot of us were doing this, standing up for others, helping them with little things, the society would take a better turn and survive.
My former boss even asked me what's the point for helping those girls who sell their bodies for cash and i usually answer, well, one person can't help them, but people can. One person can't do much in any project but when there's a group, AlhamdilAllah, then a solution is possible, God willing. But i am careful when giving because people can also abuse this rule and pretend not to have means to survive so i make sure that i give them what they really need and in a way that they will surely use it and won't be able to exchnage the help for something sinful or harmful.
Glor ybe to our God.

Salam,
There are two factors to consider in the zakat/giving question
-
Zakat. As people have correctly pointed out is the
excesswhich leaves the time and amount open for each person as per his/her means as well as circumstances. -
Tax. This is fixed at 20% of your net earnings to be paid as you receive your income to the state (assuming there is such a state).
-
-
The quran clearly states how much we are to contribute.
Just know that 1/5 of what you profit shall go to God and the messenger, and the relatives, and the orphans, and the poor, and the wayfarer." You will do this if you believe in God and in what We revealed to Our servant on the day of the Criterion, the day the two armys clashed. God is able to do all things. 841

So, why have the sunni's invented the once a year zakat thing? Quran says on the "day of harvest" meaning when you actually get food/income. Have the sunni's invented this to be a once a year day and call it Eid al-fitr? Such a stupid satanic innovation. Those poor people need it frequently, not once a freaking year.
As for how to know the amount, zakat is the obligatory charity set as 2.5% of the net income, paid year around whenever the person receives an income. It is described in the Quran as a known and obligatory portion of the income. God will not call it known if it was not.
-
There is no such thing as 2.5% zakat in The Quran.
There is no % zakat in The Quran.
There is no zakat = give the excess, in The Quran.
There is no clear zakat=charity in The Quran.
I strongly recommend studying the occurrences of the word, and related topics and words. It is so easy to do, it is simply a matter of time/effort/sincerity/etc.
Articles such as the following are a disgrace, full of lies/distortion http//www.submission.org/ramadan/zakat.html
