How much Zakat do I pay using quran alone?

I thought that zakat meant justification or is that the same thing as purification.
can some body please help me out with this.Salam
zakat = betterment/development/growth/flourish/etc.

I'm a bit confused. Sunnis and shias pay 2.5% zakat every year. How much do quranites pay?

If you can afford to give more than 2.5 percent of your salary, do you think God would be pleased if you do not give more?
If you cannot afford to give more than 2.5 percent of your salary, would God be pleased if you give 2.5 percent anyway and starve yourself, fall behind on your necessary bills (rent etc.) or starve your family?
