  • The Koran on the matter of the Sabbath
    E ExplorerSeeker86

Farida ok so you don't reckon that the Friday thing might not be a changing of the sabbath then, much like Muhammad changed the prayer direction from Jerusalem to Mecca?

I hate to suggest such a thing, but this is for the sake of the discussion. I am asking you from an Islamic perspective.

Oh I'm not saying its for Muslims to keep. No, Muslims obviously accept the Koran as a more recent revelation, and isn't based on the 10 Commands like Judaism and Christianity claim to be.

I wonder though if a Jew that becomes a Muslim should still keep the sabbath if they feel it is right?

You don't think the following from the Koran doesn't somehow suggest an evil inclination?

"When they are with you they say we believe, but when they are alone with their satans (could this be inner demons/base desires?) they say we are with you, we were only mocking."

    These are just thoughts though.

Yes God Submitter, I believe that's correct, that the fourth commandment says to honor the Sabbath. Many Christians do not do this, ironically while claiming that Christianity is based on the Ten Commandments. Now I cannot speak for Muslims, or what the Koran might say.

I do know that I keep the sabbath as a choice, because it's something my people have done in his honor, and I want to honor him. That's just me.

Oh I see Youssef, so this is more about what you chose to do in your own life, and now you want to pull me along for the ride. I'm sure you mean well, but that's honestly what it comes across like when you, and others like you, say I should live this way just because you do.

God Submitter is correct, being gay and never knowing love or intimacy is miserable. It's like dying inside. I know, because I tried to fight who I was. I was miserable every single day, until I realized this couldn't be how God wanted me to live.

I'm sure you mean well Youssef, but I need love and closeness sometimes, and I'm not you. I also mean absolutely no disrespect or disregard for my Creator in doing so. I can't remember ever making a choice, so I'd assume He made me this way.

I have thought for some time that the devil the New Testament teaches about is the evil-inclination, and not an actual being, because Jesus once rebuked Peter by calling him Satan, clarifying that he was thinking as a man thinks, and not seeing things from God's perspective.

In the Old Testament Satan is just an angel who is subject to God, and is traditionally associated by Jews with Archangel Samael.

Yes I agree the devil is likely just the evil inclination or the base desires.

Notice that the Koran only seems to put that forward in the context of heterosexual men choosing to go with other males. Not in the context of an actual homosexual attracted to other men by their natural makeup. A point you seem hesitant to address. Another point you won't address is it says they leave their wives, which would be adultery.

This is just like people who cite Romans 1 out of context when it comes to the New Testament.

Lordfox well many of the Rabbis believe that to be about Pagan sex rites or something as that whole section of Leviticus is clarified by "after the manner of the Egyptians you will not do, and after the manner of the Canaanites you will not do."

Its more about obscure sex rites then homosexual love.

A lot of that stuff was for that society you know, plus a lot of these laws were hard to carry out, cause they require so many witnesses and such a specific nature of witness.

Just a thought for the Muslims on the pork thing, as a Jew- we do not question why God gave the kosher laws. God never really says why in the Bible, we just accept them or don't. It's viewed to be an obedience thing or a spiritual discipline.

Well its not so easy for me to deny the distinction when its about my attraction. I cannot really flick a light switch on and decide to like women.

Anyhow, that's what I do now, as a Christian @bigmo. I try to follow what Jesus taught through love, charity, kindness, etc. I feel like Christianity is where I belong right now, unless something changes.

I can only do what I feel like God wants me to do. I know that before I embraced Christianity and also started practicing some in my Jewish background, I was in severe idolotry. I was believing Pantheism, which means I basically made God myself.

I had to repent of that, I really did.

Okay I'm gonna come out with the real question playing on my mind. Thanks for the responses guys. I'm gay, and it's how I am, it's an attraction, and I need to ask.

Can I be gay and Muslim? Is it wrong? Does God forbid it?

A Sunni told me I have no place in Allah's creation and should be killed.

I'm glad for this forum. Its giving me new insights into Islam. Islam isn't the religion I was led to believe. I still have questions though.

Doesn't the Koran suggest in places that masturbation and sex acts outside marriage may be permissible? Like the Koran says something about what their right hands possess, which sometimes gets interpreted as concubines or something, but I've always thought about what the right hand could "possess", if you catch my drift.

Yeah when it comes to kosher I don't see much a difference between that and Halal. Kosher slaughter they cut the main vain and invoke God over it.

  • Your Thoughts on Secular Governments?

Yes I agree government is not disallowed. I would think God would see a government that tries to guarantee protection and rights for all as very righteous. I'm not saying America, Canada, etc. does this perfectly.

    General Issues / Questions

  • Halal.. the real definition?
    E ExplorerSeeker86

So am I wrong to suggest that maybe when the Koran goes into details about humane slaughter that would also include the fact that it was hard to humanely slaughter an animal back in those times, except by like cutting the main vain?

Anyways, wouldn't stunning an animal be humane, since the animal does not feel it? I am just suggesting that maybe the Koran had to be very specific back then because of lack of technology to make slaughter painless.

Also when it says you can eat what people of the book eat, would it make an allowance for you to eat pork if a Christian offered it to you, so as not to offend their feelings, and you would not prepare it yourself?

    I am just asking.

Yeah Abdul I kinda see what you mean, and that's besides the verse that says they go unto men instead of their wives. Wouldn't that imply adultery?

Like I've said the Bible says Lot's sons in law were two of the men in the crowd wanting to rape his guests. It says they were engaged to be married to his daughters. Clearly they weren't gay. What the story describes is gang violence.

    General Issues / Questions

  • Your Thoughts on Secular Governments?
    E ExplorerSeeker86

You know Abdul funny that the Bible doesn't describe Saul as an entirely good guy. It says he later went astray. It also says that he was made king because the people rejected the Judges to rule over them because the other nations had kings.

Samuel told them that because of this the kings would steal their cattle, draft their sons for wars, etc. God granted their request though.

I find this forum very welcoming and must say I find this a fresh breeze compared to the Islam I usually have presented to me by Sunnis.
