Thank you all for your responses. I could be wrong here, but if hell was not the ultimate eternal punishment and you just became worm food for good or ill.. how many people would choose to be good just because? Ah well. I spent all my teenage years thinking I was on the razor's edge of the precipice of hell if I mis-stepped in my path as a christian. Was quite emotional/psychologically damaging. Yet, here I still stand just now in Islam instead of Christianity about hell or not.. Thanks again for the responses.

Peace Rami, I agree with most of the article you posted... The problem comes in when you get to the doctrines of sectarian Muslims, however. Their systems are a lot more strict than Judaism, and even though the Qur'aan doesn't mandate a lot of their rules and restrictions, they rely on hadiths to come up with some ridiculous "off-the-wall" ideals. They promote violence and intolerance for others, even though this completely conflicts with the message of the Qur'aan. The scriptures condemn usury, but this doesn't stop most traditional Muslims from breakng this law daily... The concept delivered in the article is the idea of modern "Qur'aan alone" Islaam, which is great in itself. However, when the majority of people hear the word "Islaam", they instantly relate it to the traditional Sunni and Shia sects of Islaam, and this tends to be a problem, especially when it regards attending Islaamic mosques and associating with other (sectarian) Muslims throughout the world. There's no problem with Islaam, as long as it's practiced the way it's supposed to be practiced. When people stray from that path, it creates a huge problem for (traditional/sectarian) Islaam, one that even many Muslims have issues with... Peace, Ahmad

salamz/peace to all tha bruthaz and sistaz of FM, so i've been thinking about what a masjid really is!?!? masjid = place of prostration/place for the remembrance of GOD prostration = submitting ones self/working/striving/living in accordance with the system of GOD remembrance of GOD = feeding the poor/helping the less fortunate, etc... after much pondering, i've come to the conclulsion that a masjid can be -the food bank -homeless shelter -community centre -school basically anywhere you can help someone. this is upholding the limits of GOD! anyway, those are just my thoughts...let me know if i haven't factored something in... what do you brothers and sisters think? In some Masjid it is already the case it is a school for children to learn Quran and or arabic in Ramadan you can find free meals for muslims and non-muslims, also some Fridays anyone can offer a meal homeless sheleter --> it was the case but then changed their policy for whatver reason comunity center regards

So prayer is not important. It is just a psychological ritual to make you feel better! You all proved it. Sure prayer is psychological but it possibly has a bigger effect than that. I saw a couple of specials on television about prayer and the effect it has. One was on the discovery channel. In the experiment, a group of Japanese women who were trying to get pregnant were prayed for, while another group wasn't. The women had no idea that they were being prayed for (they were being prayed for from all the way across the world). The group of women who were being prayed for had a significantly higher rate of pregnancy, than those who were not prayed for. Another experiment was done (I can't remember what the prayer was being offered for) but once again, the group who was prayed for had a much higher rate. On 20/20 it was reported that the power of prayer and chanting brought people out of a coma. I do believe there is tremendous healing and power when we come together and pray together. The energy we exude.

Unfortunately or may I say fortunately, this friend of mine is the resident imam at a big mosque with a huge congregation. And he unceremoniously expound about the so-called threat of the "Quraniyoon" to me. In the meanwhile I have been the object of their clergy controlling body...hehehe. The sad part of the story is that he has a teaching batchelors degree to his name apart from his Madina studies. But this does not deter him from shouting from the mimbar that all trees have resident jinns and that one must first ask permission from the jinn to cut off the tree.

"Hislam" is pretty accurate, might I add. And yeah, it's not a SIN in Sunnism (not Islam but actually Sunnism or "Hislam" as he put it) if the following is maintained That she does not bleed. That she is not marked. That she is not hit on the face. Which, to be honest makes me see the system as honorable. In fact they have it right when it comes to this issue. The problem is they're forgetting the STEPS. It's based on steps not just beat your wife "whenever you feel like it" or "whenever she disobeys you". The commands are in steps. Admonish, then leave them alone, and if they go on further (like say **** you as you're leaving them) then you can beat them lightly ("idrab" clearly means beat lightly because in another section of the Quran it says Moses killed someone without weapons and did not say "idrab" therefore "idrab" has to be light beating) then you can "idrabhum" but righteousness has to be maintained at all times. But of course God knows best. -M

I do not mind a conversation at all.. Cool. I hope you did not think I was arguing with you. I just couldn't agree with the quote due to the examples I gave and wanted to know your views. from my friend, it was a nice idea.. meaning, the suffering we go through is a lessening of suffering in the next life. Which is one good way of looking at things. That is a nice way of looking at it. If we keep our faith in God during the times of our suffering, then God will spare us suffering in the hereafter. If we learn from the punishment of our evil deeds then it will stop us from repeating these same sins that would lead us to hellfire. So, in my opinion, the word 'ALL' from the second sentence should be removed. God has created laws to protect us from harm but unfortunately not everyone is a believer so there will be people who will cause us to suffer for no reason. second, what he said and the intent, I would think behind the word's of the Qur'an, point to the same idea. All the befalls us is from God on account of our deeds. Either singularly or Ummah-wide. Of course, one's evil actions can cause suffering to many people wether through that person's own actions (eg a corrupt government) or from God (eg God can get rid of a large group of people if they disbelieve and sin such as the story of Noah and Lot) Was this woman a muslim who was slain? Were her neighbors muslim? If not, then that is beyond the scope of my discussion. I can not speak for the unrighteousness of the unbelievers. That is fine, it might not apply to the disbelievers. Ulema(scholars) believe that if we pray in Arabic our prayers are answered faster! elhamdulillah 2186 If My servants ask you about Me, I am near answering the calls of those who call to Me. So let them respond to Me and acknowledge Me that they may be guided. God is near to those who call to Him, so maybe their god(s) didn't near enough to their non-Arabic speaking follower..
