There are two types of shirk major and minor. If you believe that there are two gods, one creating the good and one creating the bad, then you have committed a major shirk. If you believe that there is one god who is the creator of all things but there are other lesser gods that help him in governing the world, then you have committed a major shirk. If you attribute one of the names of god to anybody else (like all-knowing, all-hearing, etc) you also have committed a major shirk. About tawassul If you ask a righteous person who is alive to pray for you, that's fine and nothing wrong with that. You can ask your parents to pray for you or your friends or your congregation to pray for your health, etc. If you go to a grave of a dead person and ask him who is dead to pray for you, then you are being silly because it's like you are talking to somebody who is sleep. In fact you are in a position to pray for him! If we want something from god (such as forgiveness for our sins) it's best that we pray directly to Him. Praying to any other being means we believe they hear us but they can't hear us because they are not all-hearing. Only God is the all-hearing (as-samee&#039. Prophet never taught his companions to make tawassul to him after he passed away. The only evidence (the story of the blind man) fails to persuade me because in that story prophet is alive and aware of the blind man's prayer (well he taught him the prayer himself). This is what I think and I think this is the safer position. I don't think someone who says "yaa mohammad" has committed a major shirk though. However I see no benefit in it and it's best to avoid it. Good point, it boils down to tawassul is a fiqh issue(is it right or wrong, beneficial or worthless, halal or haram etc) and not a aqeedah issue(theology) since the person doing the tawassul does not believe the person he is asking has any power of his own but simply can somehow hear him and request God on his behalf. Since we do not know what state of mind a person is when he is dead, we really don't know the answer to whether tawassul is of benefit or a waste of time, but I agree it has nothing to do with the shirk talked about in the Quran.

Peace "lobster", ...The quran, unless Jonny is right about "khinzeer" not (only) meaning "pig", only gives us one specific thing that we shouldn't eat, and doesn't give us a (good enough) reason. If Jonny is right, then my argument doesn't stand, of course. So, bro Jonny, where's your proof? JK- First of all the term khinzeer in general means "contaminated" but if used like "lahm UL khinzeer", which the Quran does if i rem correctly twice as such can only mean the latter must be a noun and thus must mean "pig/swine". BUT there is one verse in the Quran where theres NO "al/ul" in between those words. Here it is Say, "I do not find in the revelations given to me any food that is prohibited for any eater except (1) carrion, (2) running blood, (3) any contaminated meat(lahman (NO AL) khinzeeran), for it is repugnant, and (4) the meat of animals blasphemously dedicated to other than GOD." If one is forced (to eat these), without being deliberate or malicious, then your Lord is Forgiver, Most Merciful. Moreover one should notice that it is this verse which also details what type of blood, namely running i.e. the one which runs out and not tht which clings to the meat inside, is prohinited. Now why did GOD use this term differently in this very verse? Coinidence? After connecting the dots i dont think so. GOD Bless!

Kurt you are mistaken my friend. You can convert to Judaism, its a common misconception that you can't. But according to Orthodox Jews you have to have an orthodox conversion otherwise the conversion is considered invalid by the Orthodox Jewish community. An Orthodox conversion takes between 2-5 years. According to one of the Jewish scriptures (i can't remember which one, they have so many of them) a convert is someone who is born with a "Jewish soul" but was born in a non-jewish family, so once they have completed their conversion process they are part of the Jewish race. However to be a Jew you don't have to follow Judaism. Jewishness is also inherited maternally. Noam Chomsky is an atheist, but because his mother is a Jew he is classed as a Jew. Jews are not actually a "race", they come in all colors and are from many different countries of origins, the idea that they are a race came from the Nazis, but because Jewishness can be inherited for convenience they are called a "race". The idea of them being "the chosen people" does not mean they are superior, but they were chosen to obey 613 laws while non-Jews are expected to obey 7 (Noahide laws). Most Jews don't believe that they are superior to the goyim, some do, just like some Muslims believe that they are superior to non-Muslims (they are AKA Islamofascists). Jewish converts are considered equal to Jews who are Jews at birth, but a Jewish convert is not allowed to marry a cohen (a direct male descendant of the Biblical Aaron) but the children of the convert can marry a cohen.

Salaam bro Layth, In 2185, it should be "clarifications" (plural) instead of "a clarification", and "FROM" (MIN) instead of "of" 2185 A month, marked by heat, in which the Qur'an was revealed; as a guide to the people and clarifications FROM the guidance and the criterion. Therefore, whoever of you witnesses the month, then let him fast therein. And whoever is ill or traveling, then the same number from different days. God wants to bring you ease and not to bring you hardship; and so that you may complete the count, and glorify God for what He has guided you, that you may be thankful. It should also be "full-moon of scorching heat" instead of "month, marked by heat", and "witnesses the full-moon" instead of "witnesses the month" but that is a big discussion by itself ! Please note that it says, "the same number from different DAYS", not "the same number from different MONTHS", which is another evidence of it being "full-moon" instead of "month".

If one wants to discuss with another member regarding a certain subject, please create a thread which has no antagonising comments in it, sticking to the facts and not personal attacks. And also hadith is the right tool for the Western media to run their propaganda campaign against the Islam. Why would they cut their own hands? As for the fear of backlash from Muslims, I think many Muslims in the Middle East especially in prosperous countries such as the Gulf States are open minded enough to welcome very sensitive debates like the Hadith issue. In my opinion they just have not thought about it as a good topic.

peace, Investing in companies (or investing in anything!) is difficult if one is trying to make their investment as ethical as possible. Especially so if you mean stocks/shares because larger companies tend to be less ethical and/or harder to verify in terms of how they do business because its so spread out. In my opinion, it is better to invest in a more ethical company than a company that is less ethical. Many investment companies offer ethical investment now (or at least they do in the UK) so they will do the leg work for you in terms of researching a company's ethical status. If it's your own company, then that's a totally different matter because you will have greater control of what you do and how you go about it. i agree with sis samia 100%, Anyways Iftikhar is just spam, the only thing he ever talks about is faith based schools (check his profile), he never actually replies to any of his threads. He also posts his crap on other forums too. I don't think he actually realised that this is a Quran alone forum D
