Salam Christine Welcome to free-minds ) As far as I understand the point of life, it is about a test. In the process of testing, we get married and share a commitment to maintain a harmony of life. Our feelings are evolutionary programming that benefits us. I dont see the point of getting married after our resurrection. Marriage system benefits us in this life, can't think about any benefit from it in the afterlife. Allah is supposed to be kind to his slaves, so we need not worry. A male dominated society tries its best to interpret every thing in the light of male domination. Freedom from this curse can be achieved only by following Allah's commands alone. As far as I know, we are all supposed to have desirable companions in Heaven. As a student of comparative religion, I cant end without quoting from a scripture, here it goes " Jesus answered them, 'You are wrong, because you understand neither the scriptures nor the power of God.For at the resurrection men and women do not marry; no, they are like the angels in heaven..." ( Holy Bible , Matthew 2229-30 context from verse 24 ) May Allah guide us all --------------- Student of Allah

PEACE, Boy, you just spoke my mind. Isn't this hypocrisy when one points at the Christians for worshiping someone other than Allah, yet, creating a partner beside Allah in the most diplomatic manner possible. I pray to Allah to cleanse their hearts and souls and guide them to the straight path that He favors not the path of those who are astray. May Allah forgive us all --------------- Student of Allah

Hello Anishy, welcome to forum. I suggest you to, don't give too much credit to people around including Muslim scholars, Imams etc. Just try to find a connection between the God in your heart and the God inside the Quran. Because both of them are same. Most true religion is which you find in your nature/creation (3030) Kind regards.

Salaam Sensible, True! bravo We have to understand what Allah want us to do, how He want us to live, how He want us to behave, etc. We should follow the will of Allah instead of following our wishes, this is the correct path, inshaAllah. We ask Allah for "AlSiraat AlMustaqeem" 16 16 Guide us to the straight path. And here it is 351 351 Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so serve Him, this is a straight path. And also 1936, 4364 I just want to follow what Allah asks of me and know that when I get it wrong he is there to guide me on the right path. Agreed D but I believe that sincerity and honesty is needed. May Allah guide us all on His straight path pr Mohammed M. Khan

As-salaamu alaykum Well, just an update on my story, nothing spectacular but important things for me. I have been doing lots of watching, reading and asking and I think things are getting a little clearer for me. I have arranged to meet a local imam, from my old university faith centre. He has alreay sent me lots of information, all very good things, perhaps a little more "traditional" (culturally) than where I am looking to go, but all very good information. yay I had this sudden urge to "be Muslim" without really knowing what it was I wanted to be. I wanted to rush in and make a statement, probably to myself. I have realised that I need to slow down, take my time and do this properly. I still have some major concerns regarding my family, not enough to stop me following this path, but enough to concern me. None the less, I have started doing little things, the first time I prayed I felt quite liberated and completely humbled. I'm not praying as regularly as I would like, but I feel that having made the first step is important. Anyway, as time goes by and I understand myself, my hopes and my God a little better I feel less lost and more comfortable with how my journey is going. I don't feel the need to rush in to things to prove myself. My partner is becoming more aware of the changes I am making and has been accepting, though I still fear broaching the issue head on, though again, I feel this will be something that will come naturally as I gain knowledge, understanding and confidence. I'm happier about this and just want to thank all those who helped me on here, your words were taken on board and did genuinely help. Paul.

i do the same, in fact on the weekends i fast similarly to what one would do during Ramadan. and i devote the bulk of the weekend to spiritual study. i also think about how Islam applies to my life throughout the day, and pray to/ worship Allah all day during work. often times i hum a contemporary Muslim tune, or repeat the words to myself. and i have found i am much happier and at peace with others just by doing these things. and a genuine smile doesn't hurt. i am looking for the ayat in the koran that touches upon what you said and still looking..... for how islam applies to my daily life ---- well, i wake up in the morning to sounds of nature - that's my alarm clock and then i hear the plow truck. i just want to pull the covers over. i ask God to help me get through the day. and should today be my last day on earth, then to make my exit be with honor. most of my thinking/reflecting/praising God actually takes place in the bathroom as it takes me about an hour to get ready. as i am brushing my teeth, i am thinking about stuff. i look at my reflection in the mirror. i find myself thinking about things we discuss here while taking shower. lately pretty much every morning, theres snow to clear in the driveway, as my lips and hands are near frozen - i am praying to God for early spring. but i do look at the snow on rooftops, tree tops and think how beautiful it is! the other day, i just stood there looking at the snowflake in awe. of course, after i spent good 40 minutes clearing the driveway and the plow truck dumps more wet heavy snow and i just want to scream, i start complaining to God. i get to work - yeap another day. and i ask God to help me do the right thing and live right by God. when i feel stressed, i ask God to help me. when i feel like just screaming at someone, i ask God to help me calm down and to be nice. when i feel exhausted from lack of sleep or feel the pain in my heart (from divorce) is just about to explode, i ask God to give me the strength to go on. after work, i head to the gym for an hour or so. another chunk of time when i go into my zone, thinking/reflecting/talking to God. every day now, i thank God for my current job as it is not as stressful as my previous of putting in long hours, not even having time to go to the bathroom and not having time for my hobbies. living alone, i do feel afraid sometime but immediately i call upon God and i feel calm. i usually sleep with the quran next to my pillow - don't know just find it comforting. when i am not working, i am cooking, cleaning, doing household chores, doing my hobbies. of course, posting on the forum! well...i could go on and on but everything i do in my daily life from watching tv to eating to going to work to working out at the gym to helping people to cleaning the house to reading the koran.....all are application of islam in my daily life. putting a smile on someone's face, saying a kind word, doing the best that i can at work, being a better person....all of these is what i consider practicing islam. at the end of the day, i just hope that i have lived an honorable life and earned God's blessings. with each passing day, i am one day closer to facing God at the end.

Welcome and a nice introduction Eiliyah. Look forward to your contribution on the forum. Salaam alaykum, everyone! D Only through God's Words did I learn this, as well as reflecting and looking inside, as what I read provoked thought. God tells us in the quran to look at signs around us and within us and you are proof and all others on this board that God hears us and responds to us and that we can connect with Him. PEACE
