Peace everyone, Here?s my story? I was in partnership with a friend (a few years my senior) and we were the up-and-coming advertising agency in the city. The partnership ended in serious financial misunderstandings. I was amazed at the greed which success caused because we were both practicing Sunni Muslims. To me it seemed like a grave contradiction ? Muslims overtaken by greed and feeling absolutely justified in their actions? Truly that is not what Islam taught (or could teach). I have had doubts which were once again confirmed ? practicing Sunni Muslims are not honest/fair in their dealings and they are absolutely self-righteous about it. I knew something was wrong but didn?t know what. After the break-up of the partnership my father asked me to look after some of his affairs in another city. There I stayed with some relatives. One uncle (cousin to my mother) introduced me to the idea that Hadith are not to be followed. We argued for long hours but he couldn?t convince me ? probably because his arguments were not supported by relevant verses and the arguments were also not structured as well as I have seen some now. I agreed with the basic idea Hadith can be wrong. But are they? So I started reading the Quran seeking the truth (in a narrow fashion). I would read and confront him with verses that showed one or another aspect that connected with Hadith explanations (like the ?middle salat?) (yes its ?balanced? and not middle). Etc. That was my first reading of the complete Quranic translation. I moved to a village and stayed with another family. Here my uncle (brother to my mother) was a staunch ahl-e-hadith. I started discussing the possibility of the irrelevance of hadith with him. I would read the Quran and confront him with verses. At this stage I was looking for two points Can Quran completely guide us?And what?s the role of hadith in Islam? I also started reading hadith books and looking up hadith history in the books available in the house I was staying, books in the library of relatives living in the nearby town and in the local mosque. The contradiction in Hadith, the unreliable history of hadith and their disagreement with the Quran were becoming more and more clear? I also realized that the Quran was outrightly proclaiming the irrelevance of hadith throughout and in so many ways. I was now surprised how Muslims could have ignored such clear admonitions for more then a thousand years! Having read the Quranic translation accepted by Sunni Muslims about six times by then I was convinced that following hadith was what God calls ?setting up partners?. I knew that the religion we were following was distorted beyond comprehension?I had by now rejected the religion of my forefathers? But where to go from here? I knew what was wrong, but what was right? I figured it will take me two or three years of study before I can comprehend salat, zakat, pilgrimage, and so on?just from the Quran? I also had another thing troubling me?Surely I can?t be the only person getting this?surely there will be people who are practicing and preaching Islam based on Quran alone? Till that time Internet had not featured in my study. Quran had been the only source of guidance; and also hadith books since they were the ones on trial. On the internet I first searched for ?anti hadith? and came across an article about Kasim Ahmed in Malaysia. It was comforting to know somebody was out there who thinks just like I have come to believe. I also read an article (regarding hadith) from free-minds the first day of searching. I came across the submission.org website too and found the 19 theory which was a bit too much for me for the time being. I wanted to understand the Quran?s message not numeralise it. I got to the main page of free-minds.org and it made sense?I wasn?t afraid of being ?led astray? since studying the Quran many times over had already persuaded me that Quran alone is the right path? Especially some articles like ?What is Religion? and ?How to Study the Quran? were making absolute sense?and providing a viable structure within which to understand God?s message to mankind? I spent the next few days reading everything there was on free-minds.org?and, well, that?s how I came to and started loving this place? ! Sha

Peace

I was raised Christian. Late teens/early twenties converted to Islam, but had a hard time following traditions. I felt like most of them were influenced by culture. When ever I asked questions about this Sunni Muslims told me that we MUST following the examples of the Mohammed (pbuh). Whatever questions I asked were shut down. I stopped being Muslim. I kept on being "drawn" back to Islam, but would continue to face the same issues. Finally I decided to just study the Qur'an. I realized that some of the things that I were taught were not in Qur'an or taken an extra step then what was in the Qur'an. I decided to follow the Qur'an only and submit. I was on Beliefnet and someone was through checking someone's profile was brought here. I hope to study the Qur'an just got a brand new Arabic/English addition and become better Muslim.

I have been a muslim fro 15 yrs and it has been a journey from one end to the other. I have been always in search of spirituallity and Islam was the truth and a complete one at that. Im not to philisophical but more on the spiritual side. I too have sat in the masjid time after time and been filled with the do's and dont's that I have followed. Trying to find my place and have failed becasue of the continous guilt trips caught up in the outward hadith practice of Islam. Ive went from full face veil to not practice at all. I always knew Islam to be the truth for me but the application was the question. To honsetly admit I was an adherant hadith follower never even reading Quran fully. Spiritually dead but hey my hijab was looking good. So here Iam, funny how it all happened becasue I wanted to start reading and studying Quran and got on a study group and come to find out they leave hadith out of it. Last nite as I read this forum and the home page I felt completly free for the first time. Islam started to make sense and answer those questions that had me chained up into a very rigid muslim. Alhumdullilah. When ever I didnt want to adhere to hadith I sperated myself as a muslim and now I can cross the bridge and validate my muslim status within the Quran alone. Its scary right now becasue I will sperate myself from a lot of "hadithies"( new word). And will probably isolate myself more so. But I must answer to ALLAH alone and to the answers that ALLAH has already put in my heart. Im very grateful for the support of everyone. May ALLAH be pleased with us Ameen. Salam Kate

Its been on my mind some time now so i figure i'll post just a short account of my story I can remeber when i was young i had a belief in god, just god didn't have the title God, it was no name rather a feeling. My family's Shia Ismiialis the second largest branch of shiaism nect to the twelvers. Religion always interested me, mainly christianity, I loved drawing and still do, the image of Jesus on the cross always had a strong hold on me when i first saw it, to me that image is islam in the nut shell, to crucify your self (will) and let god shine through. In grade 9 i went to a largely Sunni school, i am atteneding my last semester there next year and been a muslim who had no idea that there was a difference between a sunni or shiites beliefs they tought me thier method of praying and how dogs are evil and what not, every friday i would go to mosque when i found out you got to miss class. I stopped going around mid grade 10 because everyone there was just the same as everyone else outside the mosque other than thier title 'sunni'. I remeber them saying this or that was forbidden by the prophet but they still did it, they were as human as you and me and the ones that i met had apperantly never thoroughly questioned thier belief system. The summer of that year my dad suggested that i take a course in ismiili summer school, i stopped going after a few weeks because everyone was to advanced and i knew nothing. As a youth i had told my self that i was going to read the bible one day (then i assumed that was the only religious book) and see what it says for it's self. In grade 11 i had met a christian girl in my class and she was a really nice person, my interest in religion was rising high, i met other muslims who were intersted in Islam to the point where they read about it but the books they gave me were largely based on the hadiths, they didn't really make any sense i didn't believe god would require such inconviences without a logical reason. After meeting the christian lady i had told her about my interests in religion and she said i could meet a friend of hers who could explain it to me. We met and he only talked about the bible, he was trying to convert me and was been so nice, when i recollect on that i always think of a car sales man saying ' so whats it gonna take to get you saved today?'. My dad found out about this and had more steam than a kettle, he called hte man up told me to stay away from him and then told my whole family. One of my aunts called me up and told me that you cant be nothing but an ismiiali and not to leave etc.. when i asked her questions her answers were contradictory and made no sense, i eventually realized that my family knew nothing about the religion we were so proudly members of. After this a questoin had bore on my mind, the preacher/car sales man had told me that if i 'reject' Jesus then i would spend an eternity in hell. Although an interesting thing that had come up was that one of my teachers was a preistess at that church and she was not forceful and did not try to convert me, she rather said to think it out and when im 18 i can make my own choice on what ever religion i wanted, i was dissappointed in that and rember she told me that the whole church had prayed for me-i am positive that thier prayers had helped me because by the summer-which was a few months from then-i was reading the quran. I got a notebook and wrote down every word i did not understand, after only been partially through the second chapter i had several pages of words to look up in the dictionary! At first the Quran read kind of like gibirish to me, some of it made sense but most of it confused me!... At my school i stuck to my self, so i had plenty of time to think, in the beggingin of grade 12 last years semmester i decided that i would go to the mosque everyday at lunch and read the Quran, when i think back to that it feels like several years have passed since i begand reading the Quran but it was only so recently. As for the hadiths i never was able to see the logic of a book to understand a book and all the rituals, i had not rejected them but rather just disregarded them after reading them in light of reading the quran. The question about JEsus been God still bore on my mind in october i had bought a book about a man named Edgar Cayce called There is a river, it is now my second favourite book to the Quran. It made sense of everything, my conclusion on Jesus been called God is like that of Shakespears ' A rose by any other name would still be the same' (bad paraphrasing). I began to notice consistincies in the way the traditional, Christian or Sunni or Ismiiali spoke, it was like listening to a cd on repeat. I only debated online on the internet where there were forums for that just to find the truth with people who were interested in it or with people if they initited it, however i was constantly bothered when muslims did things completely in opposition to the Quran, however the beast is tranquilized asleep and only rarely am i confronted by him, when ever it occours i try to remind my self that i should not judge, we all bear witness against our selves. Everyday at lunch i would read the Quran, i think i finally completed it before or shortly after december, i really liked the book but alot of it still did not make sense to me. I was extremely interested in religion, especially christianity and Islam, i begand to learn about christianitys covered up past, about councils to abolish this or that and the politics of religion, i did not find your site until mid 2004 by accident, it was a serach i did on the internet and a e-book on your site came up. The site is really the kind of Islamic site that i couldn't find and didn't think existed. I decided to read the Quran again during 2004 and this time highlight the verses that deal with the afterlife-the hereafter as well has always been an interest of mine. THe Quranic was slowly opening up to me or better yet vice versa, again i read the quran and highlighted any verses that ment something to me and by this summer i had once again taken up reading the Quran and now have noticed soooooooooo much that i am amazed that i overlooked it and don't know how, i highliight verses that have some meaning to me and everypage is highlighted that this whole book when im done will be nothing but black ink! What i plan to do is translate the Quran my self one day just because i'll now never stop reading this book, i plan to talk a class in arabic after i finish school and after learning the fundementals i'll take up reading the aribic english quaran with a dictionary by my side and god's guidance. As a youth my mother would take me and my brother to an art bookstore to buy art books and we studied and read these, i think this was what caused me to analyse everything im told rather than just do it. Also in grade 8 i heared a tupac song and actually listened to the words, they were strong and opened my mind to soooo much, basically these two influences play'd a majour role in my thinking, when things were hard i always had a tupac joint in my head telling me 'even when the road is hard never give up.....' This my story for all who are interested, its good to get some of them thoughts off my chest and onto my desk. pz

Peace Yasser and welcome to Free-Minds. It's funny how you said that you started to see hadith for what they are based upon some studies you've done on the bible and the similarities that you've found between the two. Many people may not know this, but there is a brother from South Africa named Ahmad Deedat who is well known throughout both the Christian world and the Traditional Muslim world for his studies and exposition of the Bible. And guess what; He too disregards hadith. I'm guessing that after all those sudies he's done on the Bible and the many flaws he's found in it, he realized that there is absolutely no difference whatsoever between hadith and the Bible. Their respective histories are basically the same and so are their relationships to their respective Prophets. If one is going to dismiss the Bible, then I can only see it as a double standard if they are followers of hadith. That's like saying that one totally disagrees with heroin and heroin addicts, but he himself snorts cocaine. (Sorry for the analogy, I'm only trying to make a point) roll Peace y'all and once again Yasser welcome to Free-Minds. Hope to see you around. Damon. There is no doubt that we should reject any hadith reference which is against quranic verses, as that might have been injected. But what about those ahadith which even explain about Quranic context of the verses? Regards. VirtualEye

As Islamic Reform organization we are working on several projects (posted on this site under the title "Five Projects and Invitation") and one of them is a book containing the stories of monotheists who have experienced intellectual and spiritual change. We are insterested to hear the reasons behind their questioning their parent's religion, the process of their paradigm shift, the response of their friends and relatives, and the consequences. The money from the book will be spent on promotion of the message of God Alone and charities. We will pick the stories of a diverse group of about 40-50 people. Diversity will be observed regarding age, gender, country, education, former religion or sect, nature of change and consequences, etc. Whether you have already posted your story here or not, we would appreciate if you mail it to us at [email protected] AND [email protected] Please do not forget adding your name, age, country of residence and a phone number, so that we can ask you questions during editing session and get your written permission at publishing stage. If you request your name will be kept confidential. You may reach me via my celular phone if you wish to talk 520 481 1919 considering Arizona hours. Peace, Edip Yuksel

I came to Islam in a very roundabout way. I am now 50 years old, and like many of my generation have always been searching for truth, whether it be in drugs, music, philosophy or religion. In fact, I was always reluctant to embrace any of them fully , as I found nothing meaningful in them that would change my life to the extent I wanted it to be changed. At the age of twenty something , I became extremely interested in Buddhism , and I still am. Buddhism taught me the right way to think and fell about my exsistence, and explained why I was so discontent with life.It taught me to view life and all it's experiences as a mere game , whwere eveything was a product of my ego and was therefore insubstantial.Years went by , and I found myself at the age of 46 , two children ,growing up fast , a job that is fulfilling , (working with homeless people) but still unsatisfied with life, the universe and everything. I love nature, especially birds, and one day in my lunch hour, I decided to visit the local secondhand book market, with the sole intent to look for a books about birds. I found a book of Sufi Poetry entitled " The Conference of The Birds " I took it home and read it .What a revalation !! This is pure Buddhism !! but it was written by a devout Muslim, one who is revered in the Muslim world. I read more books. Then I read the Quran. This is THE book. It contains eveything I need to know, and more. Read the Quran, and The Conference of The Birds. Study Buddhism, and above ALL read the Quran each and evey day.

Peace be with you all. I am Yusuf from Malta and having been born in a Christian society I set off in search for God. I have studied lots of religions and mystic groups, both eastern and western. Through Sufi philosophy I embraced Islam as a Sunni, went to Hajj and returned a Shia. ? Having kept to my inner sincere search of God alone at all costs, I kept on searching and praying. I was learning that Islam is more hadeeth than Quran and decided to study Quran. However, each translation carried a sunni/shia stamp on it and so was biassed. Then with frustration, in the search engine I typed "How to study Quran" and went to make a cup of coffee. FREE-MINDS.org caught my attention and clicked on it and that was it. I will soon, insha'Allah, organize some articles and make a CD for distribution as a dawa'h. I also have articles refuting the false doctrine of the Christians but I want to focalise on the Quran. There is much we have to learn from the Quran only and may Allah guide us to the straight path. Peace to all of you. D D D Yusuf.

Salam everyone. My story is not as interesting as everyone else's. I am currently 16 years old, but I have been a God alone submitter for many years now. Both my paternal and maternal relatives are practicing traditional Muslims. I am often told I am the younger version of my mother, so not surprisingly, she and I went through many of the same experiences. As a child, much like my mother, I pondered the reasoning and validity of many of the hadiths and sunnas that could not make sense to me. I also made many attempts to learn Arabic, and became frustrated after the failures, because it seemed essential to learn. Then, after many long years of searching, my mother stumbled upon a translation of the Quran (translated by Rashad Khalifa) from the local library. God guided her to the truth, and a lot of her questions were answered. Upon this discovery, excitement consumed her, so she spent more time researching the topic to see what else she could find out. God guided her to God alone sites. My mother tried to introduce some ideas to me and my two siblings , but it seems only I was intrigued and wanted to know more (I was probably around 12, my sister was approximately 11, and my brother was most likely 16 at the time). That is when I first learned the truth, and started to frequent God alone websites. I too was fascinated, much like my mother, and a lot of my questions left unanswered were more than sufficiently answered (God's gift). It became evident to me at this time that this is the only way of life that made sense to me. God truly has blessed me and my mother and guided us to the truth. We hope (God willing) that the rest of our family will be guided as well. God bless.

Please don't delete this. I have a point here. Why do you have this "How you came to God Alone"??? What happened to the Prophet?? Un-important? So you just take the Qur'an from him and tell him to go away??? How sad, unkind, hateful and un-followers of the Qur'an you people really are. evil Proof that the beliefs of the "Quranists" (beliefs of freeminds.org) is WRONG Why the change of Qiblah from Jerusalem to Makkah Refutations against the beliefs of the "Quranists" (belief of freeminds.org) Refutations AGAINST the beliefs of FREE-MINDS.ORG

Hi there, I am new to this site and this forum, so thought why not introduce myself to you all first. I have not yet come to know God alone, but I am searching for God; I've been searching for the past four years, but still God seems like a blurry image to me. Just Wondering Have any of you ever felt that God has completly forgotten about you?

A life long struggle to get to God Alone. Born and raised Christian. Finally came to grips with the Trinity and Jesus is God thing. The War in Iraq, both of them, that really started turning me off of Christianity. I found that the churches were the duplicating all that was bad about Mark Twain's "War Prayer". Finnally, it was when the church all appauded Saddam Hussians capture that I decided that I had enough of the bloody Christian Church. So God made me independent of them, and now I find I am so much more satisfied with my religion, and I find real purpose in my efforts that God has shown me the straight path for my life. I am so very grateful to Dr.Khalifa for his translation of the Quran, and the stand that he died for rejecting the Haddiths, for it opened the door to me and Islam. That is the short story, you will have to ask about the long version...

Salam, I came across this site in the course of my doing research on Islam. I was born in a strict Sunni family and raised as a Sunni Muslim. I eventually rejected that faith and become an atheist. I am not so sure about what I am anymore, although I would say that agnostic Muslim would describe me. I'm going through a tough time because of all this new information and I am undergoing a strained and difficult argument with my brother about what is true Islam. Judging from his reaction, it seems to me that the rest of my family is going to be hostile to my views after I tell them about it. It was much easier to be an atheist and remain shut about my views. ? It is simply amazing how much information of different sorts is out there on the Internet. It was completely random that I came across Quran alone information, although it seems to be most logically consistent with the rest of the message in the Quran and I'm happy that I've learnt about it. I ask you all to be patient with me if I post anything offensive and to correct me if I post anything that is incorrect or misleading. I am very much at a learning stage and plan to remain at that stage till I die.

Wasup Peeps!! I'm from Nottingham in UK. Excellent board been looking for a board like this for ages. Anyway heres my little story Always was into traditional islam growing up in sunni environment. Went to mosques where ahl-e-sunna wal jamaah would come and do daawah. Loved reading books on Islam. Got to about 17 done A Level Islamic Studies with Philosophy. Porbably the best course I've done so far. I never really thought I was following something bad till I came across www.submission.org twisted very different and appealing it was indeed as it answered doubts I had in my heart from the beginning. After spending hours on the website I was amazed at some of the stuff and then realised it had to be true of what religion has become. I did eventually believe at one point Rashad Khalifas messengership and some of his hadiths. I had discussions with my friends and relatives who thought I was mislead and decieved with corrupt translations of Quran. I was lost and still confused at that stage with all of this. I put aside the rebuttals to the mathematical miracle of Quran and never really bothered verifying the complex mathematics. I believed the 2 verse to be not part of the Quran as well because of the mathematics behind it. The other week I came across www.exmuslim.com where I posted too. Some of the stuff they were saying about Rashad Khalifa and his numerical miracle were reasonable and valid comments. So it left me in a state of confusion and despair. So I sincerely asked God in my heart to guide me to the truth whether it is the truth I'm following and I came across this site from Edip Yuksels site. I must say this is I believe where the hammer his the head straight on the nail. Things are more clearer and I believe I was in the same trap sunnis are in as the khalifites. Now I feel much better and knowing people around the world are starting to realise this has helped me a great deal. I've been reading topics on this forum for a few days and I had to join. Some of the stuff like salah and so forth I got to verify as that is another shock to me system(religion) like when I firstly discovered my parents religion was not the true religion(system) derived from the Quran. Look forward to posting more hear very soon. PEACE
