Salaam dawngorgeous. Totally agree with you. I am still wavering over the 3 - 10 day abstaining, Insha Allah I will get there soon. This happened with the Salaat, took nearly a year, before I was completely satisfied. I think it's because I have been so conditioned to think a certain way, that I find myself feeling riddled with guilt, making it difficult for me to make the change. I truly just want to please The God.

voodooH You post a long article but there are no names of researchers or sources to be seen any where, such studies are usually referred to as BS. Your posts have shown how much you like to show that Islam is all wrong. Well maybe you are right, as believers only will benefit from Islam. For you, sadly, there will only be confusion, no matter how many valid studies are given you to read and attempt to understand. pr Take a look at the site, scroll down and you will find the references to the studies. And please angry woman don't use offensive words as "bs". And for your kind information there are people here who doesn't interpret "sawm" as "fasting" as you do, so please respect that although it makes you more angry then you already are. You Angry woman.

Peace all Here is a different translation for you to compare? Let us start from 7411 for the context. 7431 We appointed angels to be guardians of Hell, and we assigned their number (19) (1) to disturb the disbelievers, (2) to convince the Christians and Jews (that this is a divine scripture), (3) to strengthen the faith of the faithful, (4) to remove all traces of doubt from the hearts of Christians, Jews, as well as the believers, and (5) to expose those who harbor doubt in their hearts, and the disbelievers; they will say, "What did GOD mean by this allegory?" GOD thus sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills. None knows the soldiers of your Lord except He. This is a reminder for the people. 7432 Absolutely, (I swear) by the moon. ( Why the Moon? Chapter "Moon" 541 The hour (Resurrection and judgement!) has come close, and the Moon has split.?( 1969, Man landed on the Moon and brought Moon rocks to be analysed!) 542 Then they saw a miracle, but they turned away and said? Old magic.? ? ( 1974, The discovery of- Code 19- with the aid of computers, proof that the last message from GOD ? Koran? could not have been authored by Man!) 7433 And the night as it passes. Peace. Salaam good logic, Christians? Jews? Man on the moon? Code 19? computers?

Yes, you are right! I also realized lately, since I noticed others besides me as well, here we are, some of us who come to certain knowledge late, then advance a bit, then again slow down, then get confused again, etc, etc, creating some mess with our posts, opinions, and repetitive questions which were already posted by others and sometimes answered too... I do apologize to everybody and all if I caused any annoyance and boredom with some posts. Forgive me. group Right, that has to officially be the most apologetic post on the forum ever. Congrats, and no worries. Peace Savage Carrot, Thank you for your extensive reply. It was very enlightening. Dawn. At last, vindicated for the lack of clarity. Yess. And you're welcome.

I have little knowledge on this, however, there is some hints of Quraish having a travel routine every Winter and Summer as per 1062 The word "sayf" mentioned in 1062 is often mistranslated as summer because this is the Modern Arabic meaning. In Classical Arabic the word "sayf" actually means "late spring" in the Arab six season system of shita/winter, rabi Awal/early spring, sayf/late spring, qayz/summer, rabi thany/early fall, kharif/late fall. Peace, Ayman

Salams! What a fit mmkhan! That would make more sense, to put it in the perspective of each person, since that would mean people in different places would fast during different times of the Year ( To say, it would be mostly Northern Hemisphere timing Vs. Southern Hemisphere timing)... Peace The Quranic version also presumably answers the oft-quoted question about 'what do you do if you are in the Arctic where the sun doesn't set for x months'. I presume the moon cycles are altered up there too, although getting information on Artic lunar cycles seems to be difficult, at least to me! Roshan

I think a good many of you are unaware that life exists south of the equator... where as the northern hemisphere's winter solstice being the shortest day of the year is also the southern hemisphere's summer solstice being the longest day of the year therefor the logic is reversed on most points made about that. So point being that whether you are a proponent of the winter solstice being the night of decree or Ramadan or whether the summer time being the time of Ramadan then the reverse is true based on your logic which makes it illogical.

On the following table ) stands for the first waxing crescent of the lunar month and O is the full moon it waxes up to. In 630 AD the Rabi al-Awwal crescent appeared in the evening of June 17, and it waxed up to the full moon in the evening of 30 June. It was actually the scorching full moon ( &#1606 because it followed the summer solstice. )1 RAw=18 Jun..?.1.O 30 Jun 630 (http//www.timeanddate.com/calendar/moonphases.html?year=630&n=0) )1 RTh=18 Jul?...?2.O29 Jul )1 JUl=16 Aug?.....3.O28 Aug )1 JAh=15 Sep?....4.O27 Sep It is said that Macca was conquered in 630 AD. If that is true, the believers must have entered the city in the morning of 18 June. It can easily be deduced from 92 and 95. The day the believers entered the town, they warned the Maccan pagans that they had to either face death or surrender (92) in 4 full moons time, which were actually the forbidden full moons of the year because the given time was supposed to expire as soon as the forbidden months ended (95) . The day of the conquest had to be the very beginning of the forbbiden months; otherwise the duration of the truce would be violated. Is this calculation correct? Peace, Hasan Akcay Death or surrender? What about the treaty?

Thanks guys for kidnapping my thread.......appreciate that you could help me and refrain from keeping off subject. Kaikonred, my dear brother. If you would set aside the practical aspects of ramadan, like how long and when and all that and focus on the purpose instead, perhaps you could help me. Maybe I'm not the right person to help you, but as far as I know you should fast from the rise of the sun till it's fall ( how do I say this better in english?) right? What I believe it to be the purpose is getting an answer for your question. Other advantages it has are that it removes intoxicants and it's healthy

Peace be with you as well... thank you for sharing i would also believe in the hot summer timing of ramadan There is cited, a surah was REVEALED (Quran was revealed during Ramadan )... this surah calls for fighting, and people have said "let us not mobilize in the HEAT" (981). Do you see why this could be taken as ramadan being around the hottest time of the year, i.e the summer solstice for those in the northern hemisphere

Peace All, I recently read Aidid Safar's take on Islam. He suggests that during Ramadhan, it is not food that we are giving up but instead, refraining from sex. What do others think, especially Arabic speakers. Is it possible that the language in the Koran suggests giving up sex as opposed to food? Dawn. So those who are ill or travelling can have sex confused Fasting is good for us as mentioned in the Qur'an, here are some studies Fasting 'could help combat cancer and boost effectiveness of treatments' Read more http//www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2098363/Fasting-help-combat-cancer-boost-effectiveness-treatments.html#ixzz1oZbUFDie Can fasting for two days each week stop dementia? Salaam Farida, Interesting thought you have. The first thing come in my mind is about the age of prophet Nuh. 2914 And We had sent Nuh to his people, so he stayed with them one thousand years <sanatin> less fifty <man>. Then the flood took them while they were wicked. If the man here means 19 years cycle, so we will find that the duration of prophet Nuh stayed with his people is 1000 - (19x50) = 50 years. It makes sense to me. As we knew from verse 3114 that the weaning period took 2 years, it means 24 months. And both pregnancy period (6 months) + weaning period (24 months) = 30 months. I found that period of pregnancy in sight of Allah is 6 months instead of 9 months as known today. So with these verses, I can't find any relationship between man and 19 years cycle. Or maybe you have another opinion? I'm afraid that I missed something. Please advise. Peace Salaam tlihawa Thank you for drawing my attention to 3114, I think sana according to brother SEid makes more sense SEid Guest Re Hot/"ramadan" Answer ? Salam, I would say both. According to wiki the winter solstice should be this night 21/22. December. http//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solstice Please correct me if you reckon differently. Peace.

Peace Belated reply but there is a simple explanation. Nature occurs in cycles. Predator-prey, water cycle, breath cycle, etc. Fasting should occur at the right part of the predator-prey cycle so as to be benificial for all species. Can you see where this is going and why it is thus important that our lunar calendar have 12 months, not 13?

Peace Roshan, I'm assuming you've read http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=9188.0 ? You may want to read the portion outlining the difference between the 'count' and the 'number' of full moons a bit more carefully. May peace be with you. Peace Will do Thanks Roshan
