Jilbab [Quran 33:59]

Salaam sister mamnoeoea. Thank you for your feedback.
A bomb can hide under a wide coat also it don't need a a face veil for it..many suicide attackers didn't were burqa or face-veil..a large coat is enough to hide something.
But the case is, by using burqa or niqab (it usually known as clothe for women), other people may think that they are ordinary women who are not dangerous.
However, irrespective from that, of course many other crimes committed without burqa or niqab.
Although I don't support burqa or niqab/purdah - I can't, sister ( - I know that I can't forbid woman who really want to wear it.
I hope women will think and ponder themselves to find out whether such clothes instructed by God to be worn by us. I hope by their own consciousness, women will stop to wear this excessive religious clothing.
Sister I am a woman who likes to wear the faceveil but don't want that I will trown in prison for to wear one..
I don't think you will be in jail because of wearing face veil, sis.
I like long skirts and got used to wear headscarf when I go to crowded streets (headscarf is already like casual wear in Indonesia).
However, I don't agree the assumption that women who wear scarf/veil are better (in their faith) than women who don't wear scarf/veil.
With a soft hart,a real soft hart it is not possible for any woman to be not shy in front of men but in this time shyness is called weakness and weakness as a child as prudish..prudish is in the west a blame,a weakness, for to laugh at and something that have to be overcome..but in islam and with my veil I feel that this natural shyness being respected because it is part of me as a woman..
Many woman see braveness as the solution,as a worthy quality and see their shyness in front of woman as no selfconfidence, weakness etcetera.I think both men and women should have soft heart.
The matter is how and where to apply it right. For example, I believe we should be use the soft heart towards believers.
And both men and women should have braveness, the courage, we should have the courage to defend the right path.
The One who grant good qualities is Allah, our Lord. If person has good qualities, it is because of what Allah has taught. It is not because they wear scarf/burqas/niqab, it is not because they keep and take care of their beards.
But from the purdah I believe now that only in purdah we can have a realy soft hart..purdah and the other rules from God allows the woman to be free,to not have to sale their looks for a minimum price..the abuse of their natural human female qualities like shyness,softness,lovelyness,cuteness..
???
Where did you learn this kind of things?
Sister, I hope you decide your path by yourself without influences of scholars/imams/clerics/religious teachers/sheiks/madhhabs. Leave them, and get focus on God's verses.
Beware of hadiths and you should remove the influences of your religious leaders/religious preachers, many lectures they say are actually poisons to your mind. The Qur'an actually dismantle their frauds.
Allow your brain to think freely and ask for guidance only to your Creator.
Many of brothers and sisters here share their knowledge with us, without aims to find devotees, without asking for payment like what usually done by those Islamic clerics.
Sister mamnoeoea, if you carefully read the posts from brothers and sisters on this forum, you're probably going to find gold pieces of knowledge scattered among many other posts, these golden knowledge are valuable to read.
Please be patient with us, sister. We still have a lot shortcomings, but inshaAllah we are willing to learn. Hopefully you also get the benefit of our discussions. group
A woman become harsh when she looses her natural feeling to purdah,to hide from men..
Firstly, I thought purdah is face veil, but then I found other meaning that 'purdah' is when women are shut away from the outside world, just seeing their direct relatives. Do you refer to this kind of purdah?
Salaam.

Peace brother hafeez kazi. Thank you.
Btw, I like your understanding of mosque.
I am a Muslim who visited mosques till the age of 45 but when I started reading and understanding Quran, I felt that the mosque of Quran is an institution where there is an spiritual uplift of the believers, a place where the visitors get purified from SHIRK and SINS. a place where the problem of the society's are solved, a place where the believers receive guidance,It is a place where the community members are inspired to do good deeds and execute good manners, to forbid the community members from committing evil deeds, a place where the believers discuss about Quran and the system of Allah, a place where where the conditions of some unfortunate people of the society who are in need are brought to the notice of the society and urge them to help those needy.
Sorry to quote it here - it's off topic - but that is lovely description of the mosque. peace
No one knows why they wear Burqa / veil
Don't forget, brother. Allah certainly knows.
they are told by their Mullahs and their ignorant scholars to do such things.
Yes, I suppose the answer is something like that.
I also had years when I was influenced by Sunni things (Sunni preachers & Sunni books are everywhere in my country).
They made me believe that it is an obligation to cover women's hair.
I ever thought that sahih hadiths are true, ever thought the scholars are good people who can be trusted.
I didn't think that there will be turning point in my life, now I considered an apostate by them.
Thank you very much Allah, for saving many of us here from the hadith.
I think the Qur'an contains lessons which direct women to dress modestly, to cover body parts that might invite a lot of attention. And what I believe now is that the head is not part that must covered.
I suppose decent outer garment is already sufficient for women - and men should also dress modestly. ;D
But the burqa is... -X
The religious authorities should not force women to wear burqa if they don't want it.
This burqa outfit is excessive and it is like 'walking prison' for women, they cannot breathe freely, they cannot see freely.
The wearing of the burqa / veil is a manifestation of following the likes of Bukhari, the idiot Mullahs and the nonsensical scholars who are themselves misguided and are also misguiding others.
Blue Agreed. That's why they are dangerous. >(
But the scholars also think that those who don't follow the sunna are misguided and are misguiding. Perhaps we are also dangerous for them. D
Peace.

As salaamu aleykum
There are so many answers and so many opinions.
Truth seeking is not an easy way.
I am finding all your answers quit interesting.
But I don't like that the niqab/burqa is under shot because many woman likes to wear them.
It means is not woman unfriendly for those who like to wear them..
I can imagine that it is hard to understand that a woman like to wear a dress like this but trust me there are many of those woman. That woman like to cover themselves without obligation
In some opinions I read that we have to dress modesty without to cover face and hands etcetera..it would mean that men are only attracted by seeing a but or bossoms (like some people think that surah an nour explains) or for some people who cover the hair to hair..I think that the attraction lays in a pretty face, lovely eyes and yes even pretty hands..but in a hedonistic time like this we can't believe such things..we did see so much nakedness and perversities that we don't feel anymore the attraction of beautiful hands of a woman or a pretty neckline..
I can't believe that God command us against of attraction (modesty) only to cover our brests (that would be more sexistic for men..it mean that men only are attracted to breasts etc..I think that full the woman is attractive like told by our prophet sallalahu aleyhi wa salaam (Al ma'a tu awrah) and that is a compliment in stead of the other explenations that people give on the ayah..
Thus not only breasts have to be covered, this is also a lie
Woman are beautiful and attractive and men could never resist on their beauty..a men who only can be attarcted when a woman shows her brest is a pervert..
God never commands such things
-
Salaam,
The less used to seeing the beauty of a woman the more you react when you see one without more clothes. I found that true when I lived a few years in Iran and then moved back to Sweden and my views have changed dramatically when it comes to how people dress and what is vulgar. I do not advocate the dress code of orthodox Muslims, but I think one should dress relatively modest. But when you get more used to seeing half-naked women the less you react and I think it is a situation difficult to handle for some people born in the Middle-East who were never used to seeing so much naked skin.
Seeing much of the cleavage of women is a bit distasteful in my opinion, but quite natural in Western countries, and it used to be something that provoked me less in the past when I was younger, and probably more indoctrinated in the culture. I agree with some people here that the Qur'an talks about hiding private parts and prevent the body from moving sexually to cause immodest attaction.
God bless you

So beauty is attractive
?What a discovery! And since it is attractive we should ruan away from it, or rather, if the beauty happens to be that of a woman, she must hide, but it is the beauty of a man then there is no need to hide. ?What an awful nonsense!
I like beautiful women, I like beautiful me, I like beautiful landscapes, I like beautiful buildings, I like beatuful gardens, beautiful words, beautiful sounds, beautiful smells, that does not mean that I have to offend anybody because of that or leer salaciously to anybody because they are beautiful.
Have you read the Qur'an? I can't appreciate you have, because if you had, you should remember that there is no instance in the Qur'an where any male is tempted by a woman , covered or not, to the point of making him loose his self-command, but, on the contrary there is the narration of Yusuf where not just one woman, several of them loose their self command because of the beauty of a beautiful man who did nGiod would hide his beauty. Had God commanded somebody to cover beauty because it was tempting, certainly God would have commanded Yusuf to do it, but he did not nor did He command such a thing to anybody man or woman. So beauty is not something that anybody must hide. It is up to those who see it to keep their selfr control and respect themselves.
That beauty should be covered is the opinion of some people who fear it, but it is not something God has commanded or even hinted at.
It is really alarming that a great gift of God to his creatures such as beauty be maligned and transformed in s fearful thing.
Woman are beautiful and attractive and men could never resist on their beauty..a men who only can be attarcted when a woman shows her brest is a pervert..
This is one of the funiest things I have read. Men can and do resist anything and certainly any woman if it is in their interest. You would be surprised how callous they can get with a woman, enven the most beautuiful and the most sexy if they risk loosing something because of that purported attraction. And contrariwise they cannot resist any woman if it is in their interest not to resist her, like if they stand nothing to fear for profiting from her. You must be very young, I think to believe such fairy tales.
Concerning covering the face a find it rahter awkward to other people. There are people who do not have a good hearing and who need to watch the lips of the talker. When somebody covers his or her face, it may be difficult for them to communicate with others. They will be communicating only with those with a perfect hearing, and even then it may be uncomfortable. I do feel uncomfortable not being able to watch the the face of the person I am talking to. Also, the kind of atire of those who cover the ears may create difficulty in hearing. Myself if I can talk to somebody I can look on the face, I certainly prefer it. I find the whole thing of covering the face not a great idea in general. But it is up to the person to dress the way she or he prefers, but one should not be surprised if dressing in a certain way makes communication more difficult.
Again, the virtue of males is not a responsability of any female, it is wholly the responsibilite of the males, an vice versa. So this beauty covering business is bullshit, so that females can be encumbered with enormous responsibilities that God has not put on them, and that is perfectly shown in the narration about Yusulf in the honourable Qur'an. Hiyab, nikab, burqa or whatever as an instrument of virtue or as holier than other dress is bullshit and not Quranic. If anybody wants to wear it, it is his or her own good choice but it is no command or hint or advice given by God.
Remember Yusuf, he was so attractive, why didn't he cover and caused such havoc that all the poor females cut their hands? How thoughtless of him. That men get turned so much on by women that they cannot resist God has not said, but that a man's beauty can be so tempting He has narrated in detail. So fantasizing about the power of the females' beauty is fantasizing, but hte beauty of a male can wreak havoc, the word of God.

The one of the reason I do not interested to get discussion with qatif is .
Indeed sister mamnuua qatif is a Sunni.
If she a follower of Quran Alone then why she still follow Sunni's mufaseer like Ibnu Taimiyah. This will be called a circular reasoning.
The example is if we Muslim, the source of our guidance is Quran not Veda, Tripitaka because if yes then our fiqh, theology will be dissaray. So if she keep do circular reasoning then discussion with her about tafseer is nothing, because intepretation between non-hadith and based-hadith has some distinct gap.

Dear Qatief,
Again, you INSULTED women as humans.
You said that women are attractive so men who see attractions will.........
Hey men are also attractive!
I am attracted to Syrian singer Mohamad Bash's face because his face is so cute, handsome and hot. There are many other hot men that attract the female crowd and make the women scream and shout and some of the crazy women chase, hug and even kiss the hot men's cheeks.
But of course it is stupid to say those hot men must cover in the prison-like clothes.
Are you blind to see the words "except what is ordinary to appear". If you say cover everything than what the **** is the part that is normal to appear?
Some Japanese and Korean girls are interested in Caucasian guys with tall bodies, blue eyes, blonde hair, prominent noses, broad shoulders, muscular bodies, 6 packs etc and other physical characteristics that attract those girls. Both men and women have attractions and beauties.
Yes, both women and men must not reveal their awrat. I have already explained what awrat is.You are equating the whole women's bodies to awrat? Oh my God!
Awrat means genitalia, nakedness, indecency. You are saying women = genitalia = private parts = nakedness = shames = indecency? Seriously you are so brainwashed. You are insulting your own gender! Merciful God doesn't create women as genitalia so please stop acting like people with 3rd class brain / minds. -
As salaamu aleykum
You are not on the pad and sure you can use some softness as a woman..you are insulting other human because of you are talking rude,boorisch,onruspectful..
If this is your interpretation to be a good human and a muslim how you are acting..then astafar..
Also you are intolerant for other meanings..you are insulting me with a 3rd brain level but cna't give a wise and nice answer without to laugh with others,to insult them,to be cynical..
Bravo honeybuch..you are the example of a free woman with "guts" if you wanted to proove this someone have to give you an applaus
For me I like more softness than rudeness as a woman and alhamdullilah..to visit this site have a good side-effect..it makes me more solid in my deen and my beliefs..I feel that rude people can't have the truth and God only leads the nice-ones ,the ones who loves other people with their hart...people who are nice, cute and loving Allah ,they are the ones we have to follow, not the rude-ones who think they have the truth..
Thanks that God put you on my way so that I canlearn from your acts what a muslim not have to be..and thanks to guide me again on the path..
I wish that Allah will guide you to the truth and let have respect for other opinions because rudeness is a sin

There are many forum members who shared their experiences. Hopefully their stories (of real experiences) make you understand why people like us are here.
Sister, from what you describe about 'woman and men', it seems that your mindset influenced by some kind of bizarre doctrines.
Did you learn from books that include many Sunni hadiths as references?
Be careful when you read that kind of books, because Sunni (and the other Islamic sects) blend Qur'an verses with hadiths.
One of the awful things done by the extreme hadiths followers is insisting to 'protect' women by restricting their movement, keeping them in houses, making them not free to do outside activities.
How about women/girls who have to work hard, for example female farmers.
They are helping their husbands/fathers in order to fulfill their family needs. How they can work in the fields and gardens if the whole body is covered?
How they can get enough food for the family if they are only care about beauties and attractiveness issues?
If those women stop working because of applying purdah and hide at home or behind burqa to feel soft and lovely, then who will finance their daily needs?
Whether the imams/scholars/clerics would support those women's needs? I guess not.
The imams/scholars/clerics fond to issue fatwas - act like 'the Lord', telling this is haram, that is haram.
Many famous Sunni clerics living prosperous from the money given by their worshipers, they don't even care that through the Qur'an, God teaches us to ask of no fee/reward when inviting people to God's path. That is mean not even a penny we can receive from da'wah, because da'wah is not for sale! Many clerics seem so blind to see this simple rule.
If men want to be leader for women, they should maintain community security and protect stability, so the women can safely indulge/active in their own community environment.
Protecting women doesn't mean treating women like pets. Women also have capability to advance community. To achieve healthy community progress, men must be willing to work together with women as solid partners.
If the men curb the women, their community will be gloomy and defective, difficult to develop.
Peace.

Dear sister as salaamu aleykum

In islam we can't lock woman at home and they can work also if they want but it is the same as we can see for prostitues..if there is no job that respect the commands of Allah then we simple can't do it like we can't start to prostitute ourselves because there is no other solution or to go to kill ourselfs with bombs because some one will provide our familiy with money or to dance naked in a club for to urn something..God is the provider and we have to always pray that God will provide us with food etcetra but we have to be more scared for to do sinfull things than to die from hunger because this life does not have meaning..the afterlife will be the eternal life..
Those woman can work still in field when that is nessecary and still hiding themselves from men when men are around and when it is not possible to hide oneself then their men have to find a solution for them because they are in the first place responsable to feed their wifes..everything can be arranged with the good will..
Woman don't have to cover them all the times but only when there is man around..there are much solutions for those female farmers..
One thing more..when the pure law of God will be practisized then such things will even be not the option to let work female farmers in hard labour work on the field (like in some parts of africa par example where woman are misused by men) but woman could do easy work on the farm..all the rules togheter postulated will work no not when one real is missing from the Quran..

The way you talk and giving 'solution which cannot be applied in real life' are quite similar to the style of religious clerics who are doing brainwashing to their followers.
Looks like you have never seen the real farmers villages, real farmer families, and how real farmers cultivate.
Maybe you need to visit the real farmers in developing countries.
Forgive me, but from your words, you seem like a person who live in imaginary world.
Perhaps you're too long hiding in purdah system, so you do not really see the real life, reality.
Are you one of female scholars or perhaps 'female clerics in training'?
I hope you are not trying to brainwash other females around you.
If you insist on following and spreading the teachings of your religious scholars/clerics, then I better to stay away.
I thought you are a victim of brainwashing, but now I'm thinking what if you are one of the perpetrators of brainwashing.
And you also still not answer (or perhaps ignore) my question.
Did you learn from books that include many Sunni hadiths as references?
