    Peace san,

2185 ?so who avow (shahida) ? not always physical.

Even the blind (&#1648 can shahida ?la ilaha illa huwa? or shahida alshshahra.

Yes, Noon, that is right, the blind can do "shahida" ) thanks for bringing this up.

i see you're point, "shahada" here should not be limited to the eyes, as the term "witnessing" should suggest. I'll consider "avow" as well.

    Peace,

      Peace Mazhar,

Quote from Mazhar on Yesterday at 051902 PM
      Prescription of "Fasting" is NOT the ultimative objective in itself. It is a means for attaining the objective/purpose, and it is defined;

Thank you. Just what we've been waiting for. Let's rephrase one of our questions above

Quote from san on September 10, 2010, 025935 PM
Suppose you have chosen a way of life whose purpose is to lead a life of taqwa. Which act serves better in the attaining of taqwa

"Fasting for a month/number of days from (lawful) eating, (lawful) drinking and (lawful) sexual intercourse" in the so-called "Sacred Month of Ramadan" (or, after the witnessing of the "scorching-hot full-moon&quot, once every twelve months,

      OR

"Abstaining/Restraining/Stopping" something "apparent/infamous/notorious/commonly-known" which is "intensely/scorching hot" and "Un-lawful (Sacred/Restricted)", anytime, anywhere one witnessed it happening ?

Why anything adjudged as bad deed/act by others is done by an individual?

What is the basic cause of any act done by any individual?

All our actions emanate to satisfy the appetite/desire/attraction/lust of three parts of the human body; belly/stomach ; the lower part genitalia-sex and chest/heart.

And to satisfy all these appetites one has to move into the society. This is why actions are adjudged as good and bad. Prescription of "Fasting" may be evaluated from this angle.

You forgot these The eyes, with a desire to look at beauties and glamor. The ears, with a fondness to listen to good, pleasing sounds. The skin that likes to touch delicately-textured objects. The mind and its pursue of its own ideas, glory, ambitions etc.

No, from what i gathered and from my experience, the basic cause is not in the stomach (as long as i filled it "enough", it won't continue to "cry&quot, and not in the genitalia (similarly, i'm sure you're familiar with the matter), these are the problems which are already sufficiently (i.e. comprehensively) addressed in Al-Qur'aan. And you're right about the heart. And you're right that the individual has the responsibility.

So, why not let him "fast" the heart instead? This could be done by taking abstinence from specific "problem actions", as in the examples given in AQ.

And to stay in the pragmatic realm, let's now ask our fellow Muslims "which part(s) of you have been abstained in the last month?"

Don't you wonder how "heart" would rank in the survey, against "stomach" and "genitalia"?

My prediction whatever have been prioritized in the tenet, will be reflected as such in the followers of the tenet.

Then again the ultimate question is this if the appetite/desire/attraction/lust is such a "root of all problems", why abstain it just for a "month"? Why not the whole year?

            The objective relates to "heart".

The best stimuli for initiation of sex process is visual signal, sound and touch are of lesser strength. The glory, ambitions etc are the desires of the heart, brain is used to achieve/satisfy those.

Physically do it for a month and see if it makes some difference. Give it a trial next year. How strong is the desire for sex that even during "Fasting month" it has been allowed during night, and prohibition is imposed for the day time only. If one can't hold back for a month and that too only during th day, how would you expect ideal conduct if he finds opportunity for illicit sex?

                  When isolated to this problem

                  • Those with sex-addiction should also try fasting as well.

That is actually a good program--which can be done during anytime of the year.

Sorry to interrupt, as this seems discussion of intellectuals.

But I have a question, if you don't mind? How can a heart fast?
Won't it end in a death.

Ramazan is being translated as "scorching hot". But be careful of this that when nothing eatable goes into mouth for many hours, the body temperature/heat rises, and "heated body" becomes more desirous of sex.

Those with fevers must be ravenous nymphomaniacs then.

It was expected from Ayisha and not from you. He never said anything of fever.

I think what Mazhar meant was following.

Javanese philosophy expert, Prof. Dr. Damardjati Supadjar said, a person's sexual desire would tend to increase when fasting in the month of Ramadhan.

According to Damardjati, the increased sex drive during fasting is due to blood cells in the body that do not receive much nutrition, thus more blood flows to the genital area. "When blood does not digest food, the blood becomes off duty and flows to the ?autonomous area?," said the Professor of Philosophy UGM, adding that what he said has been discussed in detail in the ancient Javanese book, Bayanullah.

you're doing it again Raj. Read Mazhars post before you decide what you think he meant and notice he also referred to scorching heat and body temperature and body temperature being the cause of getting more desirous of sex.

Its a bit like here in Egypt they have to cut a girls bits off because of the heat it will make her more rampant apparently. Obviously doesn't work on foreigners living here as when I get too hot that is the last thing I want to do!

I wouldn't expect you to get it anyways raaajah.

The philosophy expert should perhaps be taken in a more philosophical vein hmm? Blood going "off-duty" to the genital area for festivities...maybe Dr. Damardjati used to observe sailor's habits back in the day, whenever they'd dock at a port other than their own. It makes sense, after all Otis Redding too came up with brilliant observations sitting at the dock of a bay.
