This absurdity is their punishment they inflict upon themselves
after they abandoned the family of the prophet to their deaths and sided with the enemies.
This is the reason why they execute this absurd practice. -

Listen! Your Imaam my 39th father's cousin had no guts. He sat with the women at home while his uncle Zayd ibn Ali (my 40th ancestor) was raising armies around the world to fight the umayyads. Where was your Imaam when my 40th ancestor (his father's brother) was crucified and his skeleton hanged on the gallows and where it remained for four years.
Did he not speak out against this? Where was your Imaam and his sons when Zayd ibn Ali and his sons were the mujaaHidiyn of the world - most certainly they were sitting at home with the women. Now today you want to brandish a sword. How ironical.
My fore fathers and I have never been cowards. We have been fearless and we lead the world unto their deaths. This is our history. Now you know why you have so many supporters and we but a few.
We have the greatest documented history in humanity for struggle against injustice and oppression. We are a family that has brought more education to the the world than any other. Don't claim what you do not have a right to claim. Your Imaams knew to rise up and remain quite when we came along. Keep that in mind. -
That is a picture of Tatbir done during Matam. Many of our Scholars have discouraged it and it is banned in Iran.
It is done out of excessive love and some proponents of Tatbir stated that the bloody scene is to remind humanity of the crimes perpetuated against the Ahlul Bayt. A sign of protest otherwise we do not have even a single narration to justify this blood letting.
You can still be a shia and not practice Tatbir, next question please
