    Greetings Hussain,

This is why you need hadeeth to some extent. Your brain is not going to tell you what the Qur'an says out of thin air.

I beg to differ with you. What about all of those generations left without hadith or anything like it?? And of that which existed that is similar to it, i.e. of the Jews and Christians, has long been protested as being dubious as well!

The people that transmitted the hadeeth lived in those generations. Hadeeth is about that practice of early Muslims and how it was transmitted to us. Also, they spoke the language of the Qur'an or many of them did, not like today.

It's a shame they all believed in flying horses, I guess.

Who knows , but i think the people who have given the mistranslated quran , have done the same - given a mistranslated set of hadith's as-well!?

If they can do it with the quran , why not to the hadiths as-well??

Isn't hadith written in Arabic? I think ILisa (correct me if I am wrong) is talking about people whose native tongue is not Arabic.

Ilisa can answer for Ilisa. The hadeeth in Arabic helps explain the Arabic Qur'an to the Arabs and that helps explain it to all. Ilisa said this earlier

If the Arabic Qur'an was what was necessary to be successful in this life, then God has let generations and generations of humanity live and die without having a chance at success-- and this is highly unlikely.

                  Peace,

But who is to say that something is illogical. Because we think something is illogical according to our cultural standards does that mean that it is illogical and therefore God could not have meant it. How can you see fasting as illogical. I see it as a ritual manifestation and a training of the mind to sacrifice for God's sake, and to realize the unimportance of the comforts of life and the importance of God. I see it as a ritual that has alot of worth, alot of worth. And furthermore whether we see the reason for why God wants us to do something or not, if the words can't mean anything else why don't we just accept that God is all wise and many times that good he wants for us is a good that will extend into the next life. Let's look at not eating pig meat, not having sex out of the bounds or promise of marriage (even if it is protected sex) washing before prayer, these are rituals that are supposed to instill something in our brains about how we need to live our lives. It is not the pig meat, the sex or the not washing before prayer that is evil, it is that this helps us realize we must be willing to discplining ourselves for God's sake and understand that God is more important than somethings in life that we might like to enjoy, but that really have no negative affect (and most of which will have a positive effect, physically or intangibly) on us if we don't partake. We can't be godly and headonists at the same time, and living logically and sensibly does not equal safely practicing headonism.

                  Godbless,
                  Anwar

                  Peace,

Well for me things get illogical when there are better ways to perform it. Like fasting, the only good I can think of ,is to cleanse/rinse your body. But today there are other methods like I have said before(herbal medicines) to drink.
We shall not only accept everything, why then God ask us to search for knowledge?
I agree with you that many advices in Quran is for us to be civilized or disciplined as you said. Of course that is meant to be good for us in the long run, yeah it's true. But I'm out for the BIG PICTURE, when we see the big picture then things will be more easy and we will see what is wrong and right and act upon that in a natural way.
But many so called believers in God these days are so occupied with their rituals and traditions so they are not aware what they are doing and that is in my opinion scary. And it reminds me of a qoute in Quran like this they have shields around their heart so they cannot see etc...
If we are stuck in rituals then we cannot easily get the whole picture. And actually i'm not believing in sacrifices and sorrows for achiving something better. I think a positive mindset so often we can are the big winning concept and it help us to stay focused and also help other one adopting it and spread it. BE HAPPY, BE GREATFUL, BE GOOD yes

                  Majidah

                              Peace All,

                              MZ,

If they can do it with the quran , why not to the hadiths as-well??

I agree with this. I don't believe in the authenticity of all of the hadeeth that I have seen because of it not being comaptible with the Quranic method of authentication of rumor. However, so many Quranists (especially) here are so anti-hadeeth that they don't understand that the Hadeeth may have been misinterpreted as well. I occasionally read the hadeeth and look for these possilbe misinterpretations (or alternative understandings), considering pre/non-Islamic Arabic meanings and Classical Arabic grammar. I do this out of sheer intellectual joy, however.

                              Sweden Majidah,

Knowing the big picture does not mean doing away with rituals, it means knowing what these rituals are for. Why are you looking at fasting from a purely materialist view? Especially when it is so obvious that fasting is a ritual to manifest and practice sacrifice for God's sake. If you can't see this, then you are not really looking at the big picture (remember that knowing of results in the long run IS looking at the big picture).

BE HAPPY, BE GREATFUL, BE GOOD

Sister, where is God in all this. The faithful to God have faith in him in the bad times (adarraa'u/al-ba'saa'u), times of violence (yawmul-ba'si) and in good/prosperous times (asarraa'u), do you only validate God by your happiness. Is that godliness or headonism?I would personally say 'Be happy in God, be grateful to God and be good for God's sake.' 'We are to act for the sake of God, it is in Him that we will find sureness in our hearts in this life and everlasting happiness in the life to come.

                              Ilisa,

I'm sorry I didn't correctly conjecture your interpretation of the phrase ''The Great Reading." I'm used to people using this as an English translation of the Quran. So if you are talking about the Universe and God's creation in general then I agree with you, it is not based in Arabic.

                              Godbless,

                                Peace Anwar,

Don't say that happiness isn't a cure? But I'm aware that sorrows makes us more greatful when we are back on the right track again.

Well brother who are you to say that I'm not seeing the whole picture?

I'm much into spirituality and I believe that alot precious stuff is in there, so the materalistic world isn't so much in my taste.

But I have been fasting during ramadan in 17 years now and I must confess that the only nice part of it is when I'm sitting with Quran and relaxes, other times I just feel hungry and in bad mood because of my low bloodsugar.

                                Peace

Don't you see how God sets a parable A goodly word as a goodly tree whose root is firmly fixed and its branches reach to the sky. Giving its fruit at all times by the leave of its Lord, and God sets parables for people in order that they may remember. And the parable of an evil word is that of an evil tree uprooted from the surface of earth, having no stability.

If humanity did not need specific people to explain the messages from God, then God would have easily sent parrots or books coming on space ships. However, unlike what you guys think, God does things for a reason. Do you think that God sends prophets and messengers only to parrot a message without explaining it?!

Yes, he sends messengers to bring the book, i.e. the message, and he sends nabis to explain it, from the book itself. Examples of this are already in the Quran.
