Peace diamantinehoneybunch, and fellow members However, there are those who have left traditional "Islam" but are actually still stuck with traditional "Islam" by still using Allah, ayat, sura instead of God, verse, chapter when speaking English. It seems that you are right. But I think it's better to focus on what we have in common, not our differences (i.e. that which can divide us). I think it's of crucial importance to stand for tolerance, inclusion, diversity and unity. Nevertheless, I think it's important to be aware of our differences so that we can understand each other better and create mutual respect. I have talked to a few muslims who claim to follow the Quran alone, but seem to still follow "traditional islam" (e.g. they adhere to many rituals and practices that aren't in the quran). I have also talked to a few muslims who claim to follow quran alone, but seem to have embraced "liberal islam" (e.g. they engage in heavy alcohol use regularly or once in a while and believe the quran allows physical/romantic relationships before marriage). Does the quran have some liberal views? Yes, it seems so. Does the quran urges humankind to follow "liberal islam"? No, it doesn't seem so. Does the quran have some tradtional views? Yes, it seems so. Does the Quran urges humankind to follow "traditional islam"? No, it doesn't seem so. A muslim who follows "islam derived from the quran", might not agree with all the views of "traditional muslims" or "liberal muslims." Regardless, I think it's of crucial importance to respect each others differences. Personally, I consider both traditional muslims and liberal muslims as my brothers and sisters. Also, I try to focus on what we have in common (e.g. our desire for freedom, justice, peace and equality), not on what makes us different. For as long as I can remember, I have never rejected tradition for the sake of rejecting tradition. Also, I have never rejected liberal values for the sake of rejecting liberal values. I accept all traditions and liberal values that are compatible with the Quran. Neverthless, in my studies of the quran, I haven't found any verses in the Quran that urges humankind to be/become "traditional muslims" and follow "traditional islam." Also, I haven't found any verses in the quran that urges humankind to be/become "liberal muslims" and follow "liberal islam." So far I have only found quranic verses that urges humankind to be/become "muslims" and follow "islam derived from the quran." I am most willing and ready to change my view at any time, if I am proven wrong in my understanding of the quran with regard to this. If there is strong quranic evidence which suggests that the Quran urges humankind to become "liberal muslims" or "traditional muslims", then I'll become a "liberal muslim" or a "traditional muslim" in no time. Peace fellow members, I know this thread is old, but let me share some of my thoughts here. The Quran is mainly self-explanatory. As a matter of fact, some quranic verses suggest that the Quran is mainly self-explanatory (please check verse 665, 1741, 1854, 3058 and 7519). Furthermore, the Quran is clear for those who are knowledgeable (please check verse 697 and 2949). Thus, in order to clearly understand the Quran, it seems to be necessary to study different fields of knowledge such as linguistics, philosophy, archeology/history, geography, anthropology, sociology and so on. Different fields of knowledge seem to aid the students of the Quran to understand it with clarity. The Quran corrects hadith (narrations), tafsir (exegesis) and teachings from earlier religions, not the other way around. We don't need hadith (narrations), tafsir (exegesis), christian teachings, judaic teachings and the teachings of certain religions in pre-islamic Arabia in order to interpret the Quran. But they can be useful as a source historical information, and they might contain some facts. Nevertheless, the Quran is the yardstick by which we are supposed to measure all teachings, for the reason that it distinguishes truth from falsehood, guidance from error. In order to grasp the meaning of Quranic words/terms and stories it's important and necessary to study the Quran by using a contextual analysis and having a coherent/integrated approach (by means of cross-reference). The meaning of a word/phrase in a verse in the Quran can be properly understood by comparing it with words/phrases in other verses in the Quran. Simply put, the verses of the Quran are supposed to be studied as an integrated whole, not as a collection of unrelated/separate verses.

Amity Kevin, I won't get too involved with the topic, but will point out you cannot stop the coming slavery, cull and totalitarian horrors with violence. And while God does not need us to do anything sometimes, I feel it is in my own soul’s interest to help someone if God gives me the opportunity to (9012-17). With God’s help,but the love and care we show towards a friend will make them feel that they indeed have a good friend whom they can rely on. Tell My servants to treat each other in the best possible manner, for the devil will always try to drive a wedge among them. Surely, the devil is man’s most ardent enemy. Not equal is the good response and the bad response. You shall resort to the nicest possible response. Thus, even the one who used to be your enemy, may become your best friend. It all depends on our priorities.Our priority dictates our life.What is the aim? Forget looking for some truth for a moment, where does one get the idea of looking for some truth first? So what are you looking for? Most of my life I was not looking for anything. I was too busy trying to make sense of what to do with my life and doing what others were dictating for me, like growing up and learning under my parents influence. Then going to school ,finding a job, complying with rules and regulations...etc. Religion was something vague for me , I followed my parents and accepted certain traditions and compromised and wanted to fit in for the majority of my life . It is only through some weird experiences during my late forties that I found myself reflecting on myself ,asking questions and trying to look for an aim and purpose different from "the norm" of what I was used to. When I came to the message of Qoran , at first I dismissed this weird and complicated book that made no sense to me.. I had no idea "which god" I was finding in that book. Certainly not the one I pictured in my head through Christianity or any other religion I knew some little things about. For me another force was now, during my late fifties, taking me into another direction and changing my whole perspective of my life and my priorities. I found myself drawn to study history and religions . Yet still I have to live with the same people , follow the same system, do the same chores and be in the same relationships. i found out that the most important part is to get to know myself and tackle every doubt I come across. That is vital. If you already believe there is a GOD , do not worry about the truth, just be honest with yourself ,peaceful with others and try your best to be good /do good, The truth is a guidance from the creator once one decides to walk on the straight path of righteousness. If you come against GOD s message, see what it is saying to you. Simply try your best to do/be the best you can be everyday with the help and support of your Lord /creator. When she explains these topics it seems to make a lot of sense. The overall view is that everything is available in opposite polarity and "good" or "bad" is subjective. Yet both polarity need to exist and part of the one infinite. The eastern conception is that Brahman / Tao can easily be found inside. Thus the majority of them do not try to seek it 'outside', either through scripture or people. While the conception of 'messengers' are different if compared to the west (middle east included). In the west 'messengers' are viewed as 'intermediaries' between earth realm and 'gods realm' thus convey an 'authority' and need to be recognized and obeyed. On the east is the opposite, messengers is not a requirement for one to reach out to the infinite, since the infinite can easily be found inside. A message is not true just because a specific 'messenger' said so. A 'messenger' role is to deliver a message, and it's up to each to agree with it or not. And usually a 'good / kind / positive' messengers are humble and they do not ask others to accept / recognized him/her as a messenger or asking others to accept his/her opinion through force or threat. If he does then certainly he's the messenger / teacher of the 'negative path'. Thus there's a blurry line between 'messenger' and 'teacher'. For example Lao Tse never asked anyone to recognized him as a 'messenger'. And he never declared that he convey a message from a "divine authority" either. He just teaches, based on what he know, and those teaching / saying is then written and preserved on bamboo scrolls. It's up to the reader to feel 'inspired' or 'not inspired'. The same thing with Siddhartha Gautama... Most Buddhist did not see Siddhartha as an 'object to worship' or as 'mediator' between the earthly realm and divine realm, they see him as an 'inspiration', an inspiration to be 'enlightened' just like him. And he never claimed to be the "most enlightened" or the "last enlightened" either. Thus no such conception as the "Last Teacher", "Last Messenger" either.. Teachers / messengers always exist up until today and into the future. And definitely you can be one too... And messenger / teacher is always available in both opposing polarities... From the fruit you will know whether the tree is good or bad. As you need to experience both in order to differentiate. My goal is to read all major Scriptures of all nations. Try to look inside you, it's the best source of inspiration, you will then know and not only believe.

Hello Folks, I used to play some and it went for 2 years, until my mom came to know and she says, even if you won, would you be ok to feed your children with the money that you never earned and it is a money that many many thousands of people put their share, and even though every one is ok with the notion that they might lose and one person would win. but where is pride son, dont you have dignity to feed your kids with the money you earn with your intelligence and hard work and not that it has share for so so many people earmnings. Then I stopped, It may not be a valid reason for others but it made me at peace and i am happy to see my children growing with the money I make from working like normal people. Cheers
