So they either need to rethink the translation, or they will just keep taking half of the words of God. Salaam Instead they only pay attention to latter part of this verse and ignore a vital cooling off period which not only gives women time to protect herself from violence but also calms down angry man. I have never heard of a premeditated incident of domestic violence. Its always happens without warning ? sudden loss of self control due to rage. peace

AOA guys .. For the past few months, my luck has been really really bad! Been getting bad grades, not getting an internship anywhere, failing my drivin tests and what so not! .. apparently someone has done magic on me and I have to wear this religious thing on myself for the whole day! Could the magic part be true or are all these incidents just part of life? How can I overturn my bad luck into good luck? I want things to start going right .. its really pissing me off now! 1698 So if you read the Qur?an so seek protection by God from (against) the devil, the cursed/expelled. 1699 That He, (there) is not for him power/control on those who believe and on their Lord they trust. The Shaitan/bad luck is all in your head. Think positive and suggest better study habits perhaps along with Surah 13 - The Thunder! Peace

Peace Cavey, all, If I wanted to plant a beautiful garden, I would have an idea in mind of what I wanted. The colors, the symmetry or assymetry, the harmony of what I planted with it's surroundings, etc. I would then take all the steps necessary to fertilize the soil, get rid of the weeds, sow the seeds, and all the little details in between the idea and the frution. At some point, the garden will be in full bloom and it will be beautiful. Now, if someone were to stumble upon that garden and try to understand how it came into being, he would have many paths to choose. He could test the soil. He could study the flowers and plants and their native origins. He could look into the molecular structure of everything in front of him. He could do any number of things and come up with any number of sources. But the one thing he cannot quantify is the idea that spawned the garden in my mind. He cannot quantify my version of beauty. If he never met me, then all of his theories and calculations will ultimately be wrong - as right as he may feel. The idea is what spawned the biological result. Without the idea, the result doesn't exist. This is not in any way a theistic proof. Nor is it even philosophically sound. My understanding of God is transcendant of all that we can use to understand God. We cannot, imo, come to a true knowing by simply observing and measuring. There is the unquantifiable link between all of life that can only be felt and appreciated by our own innate understanding of beauty and love. These are the catalysts that spawn creation. If we think in terms of what we, as self-aware human beings, are capable of creating from nothing - the result is nothing. We are incapable of creating even the smallest insect because anything we could possibly use to create it already exists. We can make no new ingredients, only new recipes. But the one thing that we can create from nothing is thought. Ideas come from nowhere - as far as we know. And we create thoughts everyday. In that, I believe, lies the true understanding of creation. peace

I am really unsure about the question myself to be honest but I think that slowly, I am getting inclined towards the fact that religion is prolly man-made! May Allah give us the intelligence to find the true-path! i tend to think the same... i was reading something on Ali Sina's site, and one of his issues with "islam" was his inability to read "islam" not as a "world religion", but as a path of trusting and submitting to God. ...say "the guidance is God's guidance. that anyone should be given similar to what you have been given, or that they debate with you at your Lord. say the bounty is in God's hand, He gives it to whom He chooses, and God is Encompassing, Knowledgeable." 373

Your assuming in your post paradise is somewhere upstairs and when God mentions earth and "get down" it means a literal physical displacement from paradise far away in the heavens. From my reading/studying paradise is attainable obviously within limits on earth too (I've used translation from http//19.org/index.php?id=91,420,0,0,1,0) 3133 Move forward eagerly to the tranquil security that comes from your Lord, and to the Paradise that transcends spatial boundaries, encompassing the Heavens and the Earth. It has already been prepared for those who live upright. 1697 Whoever, whether male or female, does works that help others and is a believer, We shall certainly cause them to live a good life, and We shall grant them the rewards considering the best of their actions. 4131 We are close to you in the life of the world and in the Hereafter. In it (in your paradise on the earth and in the Hereafter) you shall have all that you may desire and in it you shall have all that you ever prayed for. Think about it If they were already in "Paradise" how did they commit a mistake/sin? What was shaitaan/ibless doing there in the first place causing mischief? Why should we be punished by being here on earth because of Adam and his partners mistake? PEACE The verse says Earth as if it is a different place. It says on Earth will be a dwelling place. As far as Garden, there is perhaps many different Gardens and dwelling places. It doesn't mean that the Paradise the Koran talks about people will be allowed to enter in the after life is the same as the Garden Adam was in. But it does look like Earth is the place they were sent after their sin.

Peace, Respectfully. If they want to believe, let them believe, if they want to disbelieve, let them disbelieve. I can't remember the exact verse right now but i do remember this sentence so let them do whatever they think is right, a slong as they're not causing chaos and oppression. Which reminds me, we should also get together and build our own mosque. Since i use to work in the construction business, i would build it, financially and physically. Peace.

peace Edip, I liked it, well done. The 19 stuff was not to my liking but it was ok. I liked how you corrected her first question which was a crucial misinterpretation on what she thought you were about "reforming Islam". Perhaps she didn't appreciate the seemingly small but severe error. I am confident she is not the only one to have made this mistake, you probably get this all the time. Also, I liked the point you made about the attachment Traditionalists have to tradition in the sense that if their tradition is undermined they see it as an attack on disproving their faith/Islam/etc when in reality this is not the case. Exactly like how those same Muslims undermine the tradition associated with Jesus. You may wish to use terms such as "the hadith of Jesus" when referring to The Bible to emphasise a point.

Peace, @ David_K I'm pleased to know that my post complemented your understanding. I feel urged, however, to warn you and others that I'm a know-nothing when it comes to economy. All that I wrote, was simply the understanding I have from picking up some information here and there. I have by no means studied the subject to any meaningful depth. There, you're warned -) I agree with you that the use of your funds should be your concern. So, invest in those goals that are well-aligned with quranic ideals and morals. I have created an account for you at my site, and will send you the details shortly. @ 2Pac - Notts Thank you very much for words of encouragement! Comments like these make writing worth while... -) @ aalmakto Riba refers to an increase. I have shown that if calculations are done using actual value of money, instead of quantity of money, there is no riba. If you follow your current logic, then you might as well say that ?1 for $2 is also riba, because 2 is 200% of 1. The same logic that stops you from actually doing this, is the same logic behind why interest rate at 1.37%, as per the given situation, is not riba. As you would demand $2 for your ?1, I will demand $610 in 2006 for $446 from 2005. Do you see that it is not riba? What if there is no "inflation" one year, will you go and give that interest back to the bank because its become Riba? This is a valid objection. The value may even increase! I do not know how to circumvent this, perhaps giving it off as charity, as per 2278. If one studies the relevant verses, riba is always defined as something that increases, never goes down. Inflation and deflation go up and down, and a proper interest rate would incur in those tops and bottoms. This fact again draws us farther away from the scenario the Quran takes as basis. Making it harder for us to use interest and riba interchangeably. Sounds like you are trying to justify its is legal because of the crappy economy. I did appreciate your critic as it was enlightening to me and most certainly others, but I do not appreciate this sentiment. My post was no more than attempt to aid David and present before him my understanding. The current economic model is crap, I concur. But unless you have a button beneath your desk that can change all that, I suggest you do not condescend to attempts and efforts at coping with this reality. Be careful. God doesn't waste his words. And doesn't give laws that are "outdated". Why do you make this statement? Was it because I said that metals and paper money are not the same, and that the difference is significant enough to compel us to reform our understanding? What's wrong with those remarks? Peace, Nadeem

Dr. Nasr writes in The Garden of Truth that Christianity is primarily a bhakti path Love God, love the neighbor. There is also the path of righteous action (karma) and the path of illuminative knowledge (jnana). And these are like three lanes of a highway leading to spiritual realization. i've always loved that Hindu approach... respecting and providing for man's differing religious inclinations. Allah guides with it all who seek His good pleasure to ways of peace, and leads them out of darkness, unto the light, and He guides them to a straight path. 516

Occurences of dabbatin in the Quran Noble Verse(s) 002164 Yusuf Ali Behold! in the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of the night and the day; in the sailing of the ships through the ocean for the profit of mankind; in the rain which God Sends down from the skies, and the life which He gives therewith to an earth that is dead; in the beasts of all kinds that He scatters through the earth; in the change of the winds, and the clouds which they Trail like their slaves between the sky and the earth;- (Here) indeed are Signs for a people that are wise. Transliteration Inna fee khalqi alssamawati waal-ardi waikhtilafi allayli waalnnahari waalfulki allatee tajree fee albahri bima yanfaAAu alnnasa wama anzala Allahu mina alssama-i min ma-in faahya bihi al-arda baAAda mawtiha wabaththa feeha min kulli dabbatin watasreefi alrriyahi waalssahabi almusakhkhari bayna alssama-i waal-ardi laayatin liqawmin yaAAqiloona Arberry Surely in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of night and day and the ship that runs in the sea with profit to men, and the water God sends down from heaven therewith reviving the earth after it is dead and His scattering abroad in it all manner of crawling thing, and the turning about of the winds and the clouds compelled between heaven and earth -- surely there are signs for a people having understanding. Khalifa In the creation of the heavens and the earth, the alternation of night and day, the ships that roam the ocean for the benefit of the people, the water that GOD sends down from the sky to revive dead land and to spread in it all kinds of creatures, the manipulation of the winds, and the clouds that are placed between the sky and the earth, there are sufficient proofs for people who understand. Noble Verse(s) 006038 Yusuf Ali There is not an animal (that lives) on the earth, nor a being that flies on its wings, but (forms part of) communities like you. Nothing have we omitted from the Book, and they (all) shall be gathered to their Lord in the end. Transliteration Wama min dabbatin fee al-ardi wala ta-irin yateeru bijanahayhi illa omamun amthalukum ma farratna fee alkitabi min shay-in thumma ila rabbihim yuhsharoona Arberry No creature is there crawling on the earth, no bird flying with its wings, but they are nations like unto yourselves. We have neglected nothing in the Book; then to their Lord they shall be mustered. Khalifa All the creatures on earth, and all the birds that fly with wings, are communities like you. We did not leave anything out of this book. To their Lord, all these creatures will be summoned. Noble Verse(s) 011006 Yusuf Ali There is no moving creature on earth but its sustenance dependeth on God He knoweth the time and place of its definite abode and its temporary deposit All is in a clear Record. Transliteration Wama min dabbatin fee al-ardi illa AAala Allahi rizquha wayaAAlamu mustaqarraha wamustawdaAAaha kullun fee kitabin mubeenin Arberry No creature is there crawling on the earth, but its provision rests on God; He knows its lodging-place and its repository. All is in a Manifest Book. Khalifa There is not a creature on earth whose provision is not guaranteed by GOD. And He knows its course and its final destiny. All are recorded in a profound record. Noble Verse(s) 011056 Yusuf Ali "I put my trust in God, My Lord and your Lord! There is not a moving creature, but He hath grasp of its fore-lock. Verily, it is my Lord that is on a straight Path. Surely my Lord is on a straight path. Khalifa "I have put my trust in GOD, my Lord and your Lord. There is not a creature that He does not control. My Lord is on the right path. Noble Verse(s) 016049 Yusuf Ali And to God doth obeisance all that is in the heavens and on earth, whether moving (living) creatures or the angels for none are arrogant (before their Lord). Transliteration Walillahi yasjudu ma fee alssamawati wama fee al-ardi min dabbatin waalmala-ikatu wahum la yastakbiroona Arberry To God bows everything in the heavens, and every creature crawling on the earth, and the angels. They have not waxed proud; Khalifa To GOD prostrates everything in the heavens and everything on earth - every creature - and so do the angels; without the least arrogance. Noble Verse(s) 016061 Yusuf Ali If God were to punish men for their wrong-doing, He would not leave, on the (earth), a single living creature but He gives them respite for a stated Term When their Term expires, they would not be able to delay (the punishment) for a single hour, just as they would not be able to anticipate it (for a single hour). Transliteration Walaw yu-akhithu Allahu alnnasa bithulmihim ma taraka AAalayha min dabbatin walakin yu-akhkhiruhum ila ajalin musamman fa-itha jaa ajaluhum la yasta/khiroona saAAatan wala yastaqdimoona Arberry If God should take men to task for their evildoing, He would not leave on the earth one creature that crawls; but He is deferring them to a term stated; and when their term is come they shall not put it back by a single hour nor put it forward. Khalifa If GOD punished the people for their transgressions, He would have annihilated every creature on earth. But He respites them for a specific, predetermined time. Once their interim ends, they cannot delay it by one hour, nor advance it. Noble Verse(s) 024045 Yusuf Ali And God has created every animal from water of them there are some that creep on their bellies; some that walk on two legs; and some that walk on four. Khalifa And GOD created every living creature from water. Some of them walk on their bellies, some walk on two legs, and some walk on four. GOD creates whatever He wills. GOD is Omnipotent. Noble Verse(s) 029060 Yusuf Ali How many are the creatures that carry not their own sustenance? It is God who feeds (both) them and you for He hears and knows (all things). Transliteration Wakaayyin min dabbatin la tahmilu rizqaha Allahu yarzuquha wa-iyyakum wahuwa alssameeAAu alAAaleemu Arberry How many a beast that bears not its own provision, but God provides for it and you! He is the All-hearer, the All-knower. Khalifa Many a creature that does not carry its provision, GOD provides for it, as well as for you. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient. Noble Verse(s) 031010 Yusuf Ali He created the heavens without any pillars that ye can see; He set on the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with you; and He scattered through it beasts of all kinds. We send down rain from the sky, and produce on the earth every kind of noble creature, in pairs. Transliteration Khalaqa alssamawati bighayri AAamadin tarawnaha waalqa fee al-ardi rawasiya an tameeda bikum wabaththa feeha min kulli dabbatin waanzalna mina alssama-i maan faanbatna feeha min kulli zawjin kareemin Arberry He created the heavens without pillars you can see, and He cast on the earth firm mountains, lest it shake with you, and He scattered abroad in it all manner of crawling thing. And We sent down out of heaven water, and caused to grow in it of every generous kind. Khalifa (why is he here?) He created the heavens without pillars that you can see. He established on earth stabilizers (mountains) lest it tumbles with you, and He spread on it all kinds of creatures. We send down from the sky water to grow all kinds of beautiful plants. Noble Verse(s) 035045 Yusuf Ali If God were to punish men according to what they deserve. He would not leave on the back of the (earth) a single living creature but He gives them respite for a stated Term when their Term expires, verily God has in His sight all His Servants. Transliteration Walaw yu-akhithu Allahu alnnasa bima kasaboo ma taraka AAala thahriha min dabbatin walakin yu-akhkhiruhum ila ajalin musamman fa-itha jaa ajaluhum fa-inna Allaha kana biAAibadihi baseeran Arberry If God should take men to task for what they have earned He would not leave upon the face of the earth one creature that crawls; but He is deferring them to a stated term. But when their term is come -- surely God sees His servants. Khalifa (why is he here?) If GOD punished the people for their sins, He would not leave a single creature on earth. But He respites them for a predetermined interim. Once their interim is fulfilled, then GOD is Seer of His servants. Noble Verse(s) 042029 Yusuf Ali And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the living creatures that He has scattered through them and He has power to gather them together when He wills. Transliteration Wamin ayatihi khalqu alssamawati waal-ardi wama baththa feehima min dabbatin wahuwa AAala jamAAihim itha yashao qadeerun Arberry And of His signs is the creation of the heavens and earth and the crawling things He has scattered abroad in them; and He is able to gather them whenever He will. Khalifa (why is he here?) Among His proofs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the creatures He spreads in them. He is able to summon them, when He wills. Noble Verse(s) 045004 Yusuf Ali And in the creation of yourselves and the fact that animals are scattered (through the earth), are Signs for those of assured Faith. Transliteration Wafee khalqikum wama yabuththu min dabbatin ayatun liqawmin yooqinoona Arberry and in your creation, and the crawling things He scatters abroad, there are signs for a people having sure faith, Khalifa Also in your creation, and the creation of all the animals, there are proofs for people who are certain.

Exactly, We're all 'misguided' at some point or another. Didn't Moses commit manslaughter? Oh, btw at least a 1/3 of the quran is about him and his movement.
