Salaam everybody, A thought had occured to me earlier and I wanted to get everyone's opinion (or better yet preference) on something. What do you all prefer concerning Arabic Dictionaries?? Would you prefer something like 'Dictionary of the Quran' by Abdul Mannan Omar which is a compilation of many dictionaries or would you prefer to have the original dictionaries themselves and be able to go through each one of them during your studies? Peace If you know Arabic then -Taj ul Aroos -Lisaan ul Arb -Mufradaat ul Quran by Raghib Isphahahani are the best dictionaries. Lane's Lexicon is equally good ,in case not very well versed with arabic But for proper consultation you should fundamentals arabic grammar.

Peace "JM", Peace Tay Here is the point I would like to draw people?s attention to. In the field of natural sciences, such concepts as ?soul?, ?free-will?, ?right and wrong? have no place. JK- Oh yes they can. "right and wrong" in science could be rationally and most proably is defined in the follwoing way. Whatever causes progress for our species and does not hence undermine or suppress the accomplishemts deliberately of one indvidual by any other(s) can be termed as "right". Wrong is the opposite of that. "Soul" can be the consciousness formed through certain complex neuro activity in the brain and "free will" the result of any unpredictable, yet causal, activity perofomed by any individual. GOD Bless!

Thats the sufi influence. Do you participate in any Arab or sudanese forum? Yes, you're right. Islam came to the Sudan through the sufi movement. No. But I sometimes visit some forums (about two or three forums), maybe once in a while.

-They say that Quran is grammatically wrong (ma3aazallah) You are the one who says so when you insist on applying classical arabic rules to a spoken language. As I advised you on that thread, go back and show that you can still apply the wrong rules to the qur'aan. This attempt has long been done by people who believe qur'aan is defective, just like those who believe some of its verses are abrogated. It is not enough to say "ma3aazallah" or "allaho akbar" to convince people that you are a good muslim. It should show in your attitude and honesty first of all.

Peace, So those Arab countries arent a Theocracy? Peace I think the only two Islamic "theocracies" are SA and Iran. Others apply the shari3a law only in as much as family code is concerned (marriage, divorce, inheritance...)

So tell me what kind of islamic studies you learned? Did you ever know about a site like this before? I took a BA in Arabic and Islamic Studies at the University of London. I also started a post grad research into Zamakhshari's tafseer. I am half Egyptian and have also attended Hifz courses at al-Azhar during my summer holidays between 1980 to 1984. I had heard of Qur'an only Muslims, but had never really known any. This is my first time to such a web site. Peace. )

The actual Ayaas are as follows 850 4727 Would you please let me know where did you get this meaning of "BLOCKING" for "dharaba" ?? I will appreciate . Thanks in advance But here the verse explains strike what. Then we know the meaning is beat. As in hit. But the verses about wives did not say strike what. If it said strike them lkightly, then we would know its meaning. Anyways the angels are hitting those people for what they DID and not what someone fears or is suspicious about. You can't punish someone over suspicion. The Quran say 49.6 O you who believe! If a rebellious evil person comes to you with a news, verify it, lest you harm people in ignorance, and afterwards you become regretful to what you have done. 49.12 O you who believe! Avoid much suspicions, indeed some suspicions are sins. And spy not, neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it . And fear God. Verily, God is the One Who accepts repentance, Most Merciful. hail

Peace Computers used to be the size of houses and yet werent even close to a billion times the speed of our Personal Computers. Same with memory and other factors. What exactly determins imagination as you put it? It still is something chemically going on in our brain, which if thats the case in some time should be able to be simulated. As for the DNA, they apparently are making DNA computers too. Not that it has anything to do with the subject, but just the fact that they are using DNA itself to run calculations. I believe the current use is only good and more effficient for a keyhole combination. Going back, what exactly makes us human? Artificial hearts, limbs, etc. its only a matter of time until the entire body can become artificial. Would that make us less human or alive? And what about the opposite with computers. What if we give them biological bodies when we are able to successfully grow our own organs, the current debate with stem cells? Peace

Peace be upon you, The probleme is every sect has it's "knowledge". 'Knowledge is that which is known, verifyabe, proveable. So if sects all have of a piece of that, then we need to gather all of the knowledge and bring it together and follow it.

Peace be upon you, Zenje, great answer! ;D There is no problem, that is the truth of it, but most of us, most likely all of us have not reached that level. Yes we may know it but our nafs(spirit/subconcious) continues to push us towards the habits we have programmed into it, so we fall into fear, grief, worrying, etc all of which undermine the PEACE that is the core of our being. "Islam" is the psychology of staying at PEACE (S-L-M), no matter what one is going through. But there is a METHOD to it and it involves reprogramming the Spirit/Subconcious. My "most pressing issue" is that life event that takes me out of my peace the most. That event that takes up most of my thoughts , keeping me from using my thoughts and imagination to nourish truth "I am made in the image of a peace that nothing can disturb". Currently that is a female relationship problem for me. But in recognizin that this is my most pressing issue in life, then THAT is what I should be focusing on in my "salaat". I should nourish thoughts of truth and images of success, while in my most receprive state (medi- state). We are farmerss and we have a "garden" that needs constant tending. That is the Nafs. He who purifies it succeeds, he who currupts it fails.

Peace amuslim, If that was the case, then everyone wouldnt be able to get to heaven because we all follow a different path in different ways. For example, he could just say "God commanded me to do it, so I do it", "You shouldn't disobey God, God knows what you do not know", etc. Again, we all have our faults, so to say if you remain "peaceful" with God, you would basically need to live in seclusion to accomplish that. My understanding is not about what people say, but about the result of one's actions and intentions. We are asked not to follow that which we cannot verify. Therefore, that which we can verify must be analyzed in it's effect upon us. Every action and intention produces a mental and/or physical result within us. Now I wonder if there's a sane man on this planet who attains peace while beating his wife. Is that not the true litmus test? Peace, Tay
