Salam, I started reading this beautiful article but stuck where 756-9 is mentioned. A bit puzzled with the word moon eclipse. How would you explain it? Do you think the moon and the sun would crush the earth between them? Appreciate your reply! I had a look. The word is "Khasafa" which is used to denote a collapse/sinking (see 16272, 1768, 2881, 2940, 6716). "Eclipse" is a wrong translation.

Agree with Abdul-Hadi We can't plan for paradise or the fire. We will find out about it when we are there. God tells us we, if we make it, will have everything we desire. But do we have any blooming idea of what we might desire in those circumstances? Sure we do not. I f we follow the "mathal", example, probably our desires will be congruent with what we are when we are there, not with something that is completely over. Will we wear clothes the same size that we do now, for instance? It is nonsense to plan as if we commanded anything. I stick to the last ayas of Al fajr 'O soul at peace, (27) return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! (2 Enter thou among My servants! (29) Enter thou My Paradise!' (30) Fullfilment and full satisfaction... May God be merciful, and guide us to that destiny and not his displeasure. May He!

Are we going to be like the people of Moses (peace upon all Prophets) when they kept asking for details on a calf? Don't know th enumber of the aya, but it says it is closer to us than our yugular vein, so if that is nto being "within" us, what is it? It may b e said that He more within us tha ourselves. The fact is that God is the only thig that really exists, everything else is a projection of Him. We exist, because He makes as persist all of our duration. So He is everywhere. Space and time are human concepts. God is not a prisoner of human concepts. Humans need those concepts to be themselves, God does not. He is so generous that gives us those means of thinking and understanding. He i not bound by our needs. Quotes from the Qur'an? I think the terms like repent/ seek forgiveness /God is forgiving etc. come hundreds of time in the Qur&#039an, so it&#039s a very important thing to consider! Whenever sufferings strike us, just think about your past life and the sins (anything immoral) you committed and seek for forgiveness. This is what I used to do. So the suffering is a punishment and we don&#039t know the exact measurement/extend of the punishment for our sins. But God is Perfect and so is His punishment/judgement. And in my understanding the severity of the trials in life depends on ones past deeds. So whatever it is/how painful it is, ...be patient on what struck/hit you... because, God does not burden/impose a self except its endurance/capability/what it can bear Remember what prophet Yusuf said after years of imprisonment, that too when he was young -the most energetic time in a human life! ?I am Joseph, and this is my brother. God has been gracious to us. For anyone who reverences and is patient, God will not waste the reward of the good doers.? and God gave him a higher position/ Also think about sufferings of other messengers e.g. ?Or did you expect that you would enter Paradise, while the example of those who were before you came to you; they were stricken with adversity and hardship, and they were shaken until the messenger and those who believed with him said ?When is the victory of God?...? Always keep in mind that God is seeing /knowing everything, and all suffering comes with His permission And God is, Is God not the most judicious of the judges/rulers? So be patient to the judgment of God, our Lord. Suffering of beloved ones, Many of us may have the experiences of suffering of beloved ones with extreme pain/ difficulty. Qur'an gives an example of Prophet Nooh and his son, And Noah called on his Lord, and he said ?My Lord, my son is from my family, and your promise is the truth, and you are the Wisest of all Judges.? He said ?O Noah, he is not from your family, he was of an unrighteous deed, so do not ask what you have no knowledge of. I advise you not to be of the ignorant.? See a different case The example of the Prophet Moses when he met a knowledgeable slave of God, and he killed a boy then Prophet Moses questioned him. So they left / ventured forth until they came upon a boy, and he killed him. He (Moses)said ?Have you killed an innocent person without justice? You have done something awful!? Later he clarified the reason to Moses, ?And as for the boy, his parents were believers, so we were concerned that he would oppress them by his transgression and disbelief.? Even Moses questioned / argued that the boy was pure/innocent! (just like we do). And in the cases like babies get killed in Palestine, Africa etc. if those souls are innocent, GOD -THE MOST MERCIFUL -THE PERFECT JUDGE -THE ONE WHO brought them into this world - can prevent any suffering to those souls just like HE saved Abraham from the fire, We said ?O fire, be cool and safe upon Abraham.? So in my understanding they are not suffering, their cries/expressions/physical wounds etc. are the punishment to their parents/guardians /relatives -they are the actual sufferers here. And I believe that If man is absolutely sinless, then he will not suffer even the pain of a mosquito bite, he will not have any pain/ difficulty /discomfort in his life and his provision will be provided by God like He provided for Mary, ?...Every time Zachariah entered upon her in the enclosure/Al Mihrab, he found provisions with her. He said ?O Mary, from where did you get this?? She said ?It is from God, that God provides for whom He wishes without reckoning.? ?And if God punishes/takes the people because of their transgression, He would not have left on it a single creature. But He delays them to a determined time; so when their time comes, they do not delay by an hour and they do not advance. And if God were to punish the people for what they have earned, He would not have left on its surface/top a single creature. But He delays them to an appointed term. So, when their time comes, then God is Seer of His servants.

What have we improved our understanding of Qoran on? Peace goodlogic. There is a lot to mention. Salat, Zakat, Fasting, Hajj etc. I'm still improving though, but compared to yesteryear, I feel I've improved. And I have this forum partly to thank. Can we measure this improvement? This is subjective. What one regards understanding, another regards misunderstanding. There really is no objective yardstick to measure how well each member have understood Qur'an. What does improving our understanding of Qoran lead to? How can we be sure? Again, this is subjective. We can all agree that improving our understanding of Qur'an lead us to better abide by its teachings and live by truth and justice. But the problem lies in the details. We cannot agree on what the Qur'an defines as it teachings, truth or justice. Hence, only get a subjective response to this question. For me, I feel understanding the Qur'an has lead me to multiple conclusions. Chief among them being that things are seldom what they appear to be and nothing is 100% certain. And so, the need to be vigilant and avoid complacency. Complacency with our position, whether religious or non-religious position is the bane of our existence. See verses; 4135, 1736. I would say according to what I read here(in this forum) I do not clearly see how one comes to such a conclusion. Say a new member visits and ponders /investigates our opinions on Qoran , can they really see an improvement in how we understand Qoran and can they themselves improve it further? I beg to differ. When I came to this forum, I browsed many of the old threads with erudite contribution of folks like ayman, Pazuzu, or Edip. Sure, it does seem quality of contribution has dropped in recent years, but that's expected as almost every thing has been discussed and very few members are active at this point. Less than 10 to be honest. 1- Can they be clear on Qoran message on how to lead their life? 2-Can they follow GOD s commands and instructions clearly without any doubts? 3- Can they explain the "controversies" arising from multimeanings words of Qoran? 4-Can they unite on the understanding of the rites/steps of the deen? 5-Can they agree on the definitions of the basics,like Islam, Salat, Zakat, Sawm, Hajj...? 5-Can they be certain about some aspects of Qoran if any? 6-Can they be certain they are guided? Just "No". There are just certain grey areas that we have to admit. The earlier we admit them, the better.
