Introduce Yourself

Hello All, I am new to this site. I found it during a google search looking for forums to meet like minded people. God willing I will make some friends here. However, in my short time going through a number of the posts I am not certain how many of you will agree with me. I am probably one of a very very small select few. I?ve always believed in God. However, my father is racist and very dogmatic about his Judaism. Hence I never really connected with it as I felt if there is a God, why should one religion and its people be better than another as he claims? As soon as I left home to be on my own I became a non practicing Jew. About 25 years ago while attending college in upstate NY, I was walking with my professor to his car and noticed his vanity license plate. ?ON IT 19? I asked what the meaning of this was and that was my introduction to God?s miracle. It was easy to comprehend. The odds of so many numbers, many of them hundreds or several thousand digits long (numbers which we have no name for) all divisible by 19. This blew my mind. To me, there is 0 chance that this could be coincidence. This book , indeed had to come from God. I believe it is God?s word down to the last letter. This also means that I believe verses 128 and 129 of Sura 9 are false verses. I know a lot of you many not agree with me. This also means I do not invoke Muhammad in my Salat prayers. Even though I knew of this awesome miracle it was not until 12 years later that I actually came upon some hard times and turned to God and the Quran for support. It was the first time that read it. It moved me to tears. It made so much sense. However, I was not a true a submitter. I did not do my prayers with regularity. I still drank alcohol socially, as well as other behaviors that God would not be pleased with. This went on for 13 years. Recently I have come across some hardships again and have turned to God and the Quran again for support. I have embraced Islam fully and am conducting myself in the best possible manner with God?s guidance. I am probably the only Submitter in my home state of Maine. I cannot go to any of the Mosque?s here and pray as they are not Submitting Mosques. I?m also probably one of very few people raised Jewish who converted to the true Islam. I don't know what to say, I'm totally confused right now about how this works. If you mean this website, it is just an internet forum in the common fashion, you can go into any of the areas and create topics or enter topics that have already been created by members and post in them. Soon your verification questions will go away and posting will become much easier. As for following the Qur'an, I recommend reading through it, here is a website with lots of translations (but there are people on this website who consider all translations to be insufficient in quality) www.islamawakened.com/quran The Hadith are collections of folk tales that were supposedly in circulation at the time the Hadith were written or were put into circulation after its writing. I recommend continuing to worship and doing whatever you don't find particularly contrary to the messages you find in the Qur'an.

Welcome aboard! I, too, was a former Catholic. I don't consider myself a Muslim but, rather, a muslim. I don't follow traditions; I follow God alone. Yes, I had the same doubt, too, about mentioning the prophet in the Proclamation of Faith, as well as in the Salat. I think we have something in common. Welcome to the forum! I was a Catholic, got interested and converted to Islam. And, believe it or not, I use Jesus' teachings as my 'Hadith', and Buddha's teachings to live my life. As for those 'official Hadiths', I take them as 'wise words' only -- if it's good and reasonable, fine; otherwise I disregard them. Religion is only a 'brand', if not a football team trying to win fans. What a brilliant welcome message.. bravo couldn't agree any more with each of your words... Yeah, as you see here, there will be a wide variety of interesting and free opinions regarding these matters being discussed, more so than would be common in most Mosques these days. The wide diversity of ideas can be frightening at first, much like a person may feel confused by the varying beliefs of Christians or their explanations, so it is up to one to research carefully, logically deduce things, and see what the source material (like the Qur'an) says in order to figure it all out. The same should go for anything and should just be the way one approaches all things in life, with patience and intelligence, in order to learn what the best strategy might be to attain what we desire the most, and what we should logically desire the most. So I mentioned this place on Lunatic Outpost because I wanted to give people a chance to see the diversity of ideas being presented rather than a monolithic image of Islam, since most people, even if they are mainstream, tend to at least secretly harbor a variety of ideas regarding things, but this website allows members to expose those ideas more freely. I need to clarify that there is nothing dull about my faith, or anything I wrote about. I, at least, believe we are here on Earth to worship God. I don't believe in Science but accept the evidence provided for claims. The thing thing with Science is that it's true whether you choose to believe it or not.
