They do blaspheme who say "Allah is Christ the son of Mary." But said Christ "O Children of Israel! worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord." Whoever joins other gods with Allah,- Allah will forbid him the garden, and the Fire will be his abode. There will for the wrong-doers be no one to help. (Q 5/73)

It depends how you define the word shrk.

It isn't anything to do with a number of Gods at all, and when you label people like that you yourself comit shirk for segmenting people - when they should all be one.

          What is shirk to you?

          peace

When those who gave partners to Allah will see their "partners", they will say "Our Lord! these are our 'partners,' those whom we used to invoke besides Thee." But they will throw back their word at them (and say) "Indeed ye are liars!" (16/86)

One of the best articles on "what is shirk?", albeit slightly disturbing in its potential application to oneself/others
              http//www.quranicteachings.co.uk/shirk.htm

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

I?m not labelling people. Look at the link Wakas has, it shows how shirk isn?t as simply defined.

What about verses in the Quran as abdalquran points out shirk can be setting up partners with God.

You seem to implicate you have a totally different view, do share

                Salam

Simple is pointing to 30/31-32 to say that 'segmenting people is shirk'. This is incorrect. 30/32 says 'farraqoo DEENAHUM' which means they split their DEEN and become 'shiya' or parties, each party is rejoicing with what they have. In order words, these people take the incomplete teachings of God and are happy with that. This is different from people who take the whole deen (and thus dont farraqoo deenahum) and judge people according to that.

I was thinking, he was thinking about the verse 6159 though it doesn't have links to shrik it also uses the same terminology "farraqoo deenahum".

Sarah, I would also look at 2/213 which explains how mankind came to be split up.

I hate people who burden others. And I also hate people who violate human rights.

John, i'd like to phrase it as 'God and Good'.

Also, while I believe ideologies can be idolatrous, people subscrbing to that ideology may not be. I've met Christians who belong to trinitarian churches who simply don't deal with the whole doctrine or just simply believe in God. So I refrain from judging all peaceful individuals as 'believers' or 'rejectors'.

There are some "mainstream" Christians that believe Jesus was "God on Earth" but there are many that do not.

I agree that Christ himself isn't the partner but that's not the point here. You claimed that shirk isn't associating partners with God but rather segmenting mankind. This is clearly false. Please see the article Wakas posted.
