My highlighting a certain aspect of anyone's lecture that I agree with is not endorsing them as a whole, just as my highlighting aspects I disagree with is not demeaning them as a whole. Peace, In my opinion, the Quran doesn't need to be modernized (i.e. brought up to our times) as it is for all times. The commands in the Quran are only for those who have faith in God and the Quran. These commands are voluntary and are fulfilled by the faithful. Punishments are compensations to God. They cannot be enforced on anyone, that person has to openly accept following the Quran, and accept his punishment/compensation. 3.Laws that have to do with people who don't follow the Quran and commit crimes against people who follow the Quran are outlined in all of the rules that we have for war with those who fight against us. Quranic laws should not be imposed on anyone, not even on a universal level. It is up to any community to follow a Quranic law if they see it as best for their society. Quranic laws are were not put in place to forcefully protect the people they were put in place for any group of believers who wanted to form their own community (and they are encouraged to do this in the Quran) on how to govern that community. As these ways are voluntary the Quran even outlines how to deal with hypocrites (who want to be apart of the community but not follow its laws). When the law of the Quran is put into true affect it will not be some Quranic state or Islamic state. It will be through a group of God's loyalists who study the Quran, teach the Quran and follow the Quran. When that starts to form I will be here ready to participate and help. Godbless, Anwar

Belief in my view is just another word for perception. We could look at a flower and be asked to describe it, I could say its red. While you might say its yellow, both of us could be wrong and yet right (if both are speaking truthfuly) at the same time. Like if the lighting of the sun changed the color. It is of one color, but neither of us were wrong because that is the color you saw. Then we also must consider that both of us are wrong and the color is blue. The same thing could be said about God, one of us could be right or wrong, even both of us could be wrong. But what you see is your perception of God, and you believe its true, so to you it is true. So basicaly, Religion/belief=personal perception.

since we've (by "we" I mean myself and a few others) been discussing dreams lately I thought I'd give this thread a bump. by Tay The second comes at times of stress. They are known as nightmares. Emotions play out within the dream, often including people or things that we are close to in that moment in time. These dreams also act as reminders to contact people that may have been filed away into the subconscious. These dreams usually have a reality-based message - it is our consciousness crying out for attention to specific areas. Many times these areas are symbolically represented. My most recent one was of being chased by a vicious dog. When I analysed the meaning and the characters involved, I understood immediately what phase of my life required attention. Makes sense, I believe(d?) that's what (all) dreams do, but Tay highlighted other types of dreams....I've never actually experienced anything "new" or "unreal" in my dreams, they are all fairly realistic. It is very powerful and once you get knowledge of the "Ruh Ul Qudus" (the force), That which moves things towards a goal, then there is a battle to convince you of your destination. Salaam brother amuslim, In my understanding, based on the context, sujood implies only mental obedience in some places in the Qur'aan and also implies mental + physical sujood in some places (17107, 17109), and physical prostration alone in some places (2724, 4137). I agree that the sujood of the malaika to Adam was a mental one (234, 711 etc.), as well as the mental sujood of Joseph's parents to him (they yielded to him/obeyed him 12100). I guess you have not read my discussions on sujood that I referenced in my post above. Of course, the mental component of sujood (obedience to The God) is more important than the physical component of the sujood to the chin (yakhirroon lilazqaani sujjadan 17107). Without mental obedience to The God, a physical sujood to the chin is useless. In addition to that, there is an obligatory physical pre-salaat ablution according to 56 http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=14772.0 In my understanding, there is also a mental + physical ruku3 in the timed salaat of the muslimeen according to the Qur'aan, but it is not bowing but kneeling position http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=13496.0 (salaat and ruku) Again, the mental component of ruku3 (humility to The God) is more important than the physical component of kneeling. In many places in the Qur'aan, ruku3 also refers to mental humility alone, based on the context. Brother Ayman had written that article "what's in the name" a while back, and some of his understandings have changed since then and I think he will be revising that article soon. For example, he agrees now that "al-masjid al-haraam" is "the inviolable institution of obedience", and that "bakkah" is a common noun as mentioned in the Qur'aan, and I don't think he denies a physical sujood to the chin, of course with the mental obedience to The God being the more important aspect of sujood, but you should ask him directly about this. In my understanding, establishing salaat/connection/link/learning connection with The God (aqeemus-salaat) has both mental and physical components according to the Qur'aan, with mental components being more important. For my understanding about some aspects of establishing salaat according to the Qur'aan, please see the following post and read all the links referenced in that post for evidence supporting my understanding from the Qur'aan http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=14695.msg136559#msg136559 I also believe that "hajj" is an annual debate/conference for the ENTIRE MANKIND, which involves an annual market/trade fair and feast (witnessing the benefits and eating from the livestock 222. This is because we hear inviting mankind WITH the hajj (BIL HAJJ) instead of TO the hajj (ILA HAJJ), according to 2227. How can one invite the entire mankind with a pilgrimage which might not have any significance to the non-believers ? One can, however, invite the entire mankind with an annual market/trade fair and an annual feast, and then having a peaceful discussion with them at the bayt/house. An analogy, which will be understood by the medical people very well, is that of a pharmaceutical drug conference, in hich the pharmaceutical representatives invite the doctors to a lecture/conference on a certain drug followed by a dinner at the end. I don't think most doctors will go to that conference if there was no free dinner at the end !! Hope that helps. May The God guide us all to the truth and the straight path.

I personally think that all of these little details isn't really important in regards to the big picture, but its just questions that I have. I dont really see it wrong or anything to believe that it wasnt a bird. At the end of the day I believe that so long we worship God alone and live a righteous life is all that really matters. I just realized that I posted this in the wrong section so my apologies. Salaam, This is because for the last 400 years the Muslim world only has focused on one view and approach to the Quran. Evolution theory was even developed by Muslims but they do not even remember and accept this. My ideas are not new and I was not the one who has developed it. I just stood on the shoulders of past giants. Many great scholars mention the same things in the past. Even Ibn Kathir in his commentary mention the Naml being a tribe is Syria and not real ants. People here claim to follow the 'Quran alone' but still use the same glasses on the Quran as the majority of Muslims, they may have lost the Hadith glasses, but the Approach to the Quran glasses are still the same. Many scholars used the rational approach in the past, this has just been ignored in the last 400 years and thus you do not great scholars who gave the same ideas. Ive read a Tafsir from Ibn Kathir and I must say a lot of his stuff is ridiculous, such as how the world is on a whale and bull or something like that. If we cant trust that, how can we trust his other explanations? Not saying they are wrong, just reputation wise. Its like how some say that the 19 code is wrong because Rashad namely said he was the Messenger of the Covenant. Now I'm not going to say that 19 is wrong (although I know some of his verses were out, which was revised later) but the probability of someone that claims messenger-ship and other things would make some see the rest of his statements as ridiculous. I also take it that many great scholars also said the opposite of what you say about parts of the Quran? From what a lot seems to me, it seems that a lot of the reasoning with these verses are due to our "current knowledge" of how the world and the human body works. If this approach was taken 600 years ago, there may have been a different explanation of these verses. 600 years from now may have, again, different explanation of these verses. Im not saying you are wrong because I cant do that and that would be wrong on my own part. I'm just analyzing it from every point of view, and not trying to be narrow minded at all. Please read my book again as your conclusion on my reasoning is completely wrong. It is about approaching words as labels with fixed meanings or seeign the definition of the word in the context of the verses. Where is your book? Ive only read posts. Edit I just saw them in your signature, sorry about that Also labels is something that we go by today, and theres nothing really wrong with that idea IMO so long its right. My question is, how do we know whether its a label or the literal meaning? For example the Hud-Hud deal and it being a tribe. The literal meaning is the bird, am I correct? Why do we take the idea that its a tribe? Is it because we think its impossible (or highly improbable) that Solomon did indeed converse with the birds? Ive been putting a lot of thought in it today while I was out, and I also read someone saying that Jesus was not born of a Virgin birth yesterday, so I will try and find a thread on that. Peace, This burns me up. >( I hate reading sad cases like this one. If only they actually try to read the Quran, they would know that they are dead wrong for their actions. That is the problem. They insist on so much, yet they lack the proof for these things it is all tribal and savagery to a great extent. May God deal with them and correct those who are truly uninformed. Sometimes people do things for so long that they forget the truth. Here are some reminder from the Quran. If a debtor is in want, give him time until his circumstances improve; but if you forego (the debt) as charity, that will be to your good, if you really understand. Have fear of the day when you go back to God. Then each will be paid back in full his reward, and no one will be wronged. It is not for a believer to take a believer's life except by mistake; and he who kills a believer by mistake should free a slave who is a believer, and pay blood-money to the victim's family unless they forego it as an act of charity. If he belonged to a community hostile to you but was himself a believer, then a slave who is a believer should be freed. In case he belonged to a people with whom you have a treaty, then give blood-money to his family and free a believing slave. But he who has no means (to do so) should fast for a period of two months continuously to have his sins forgiven by God, and God is all-knowing and all-wise. Any one who kills a believer intentionally will be cast into Hell to abide there for ever, and suffer God's anger and damnation. For him a greater punishment awaits. And do not take a life, which God has forbidden, except in a just cause. We have given the right (of redress) to the heir of the person who is killed, but he should not exceed the limits (of justice) by slaying (the killer), for he will be judged (by the same law). It's just that simple!!! But if they do not read the Quran or even know it they will continue on with what they've been doing. Ignorance seems to be the enemy here and sweet young ladies and women are paying the price as usual. >( 1311...Verily God does not change the state of a people till they change themselves... It is "illogical" to think that Jesus/Iashua, the Jewish Murtadeen; as declared so by the Judaism Majlis Ulema, live to his old age and die naturally in the Jerusalem region As it is also illogical to think that the Sunni/Shiah high priest will let Salman Rushdie (or any other murtadeen) live to his old age and die (naturally) in the vicinity of Makkah. at the same time Allah doesn't hold your hand and walk the path for you, he only shows you the signs and the way, we are the ones who have to search for the truth. Most others aren't even aware of the quran alone ideology, and perhaps some can be guided through the information we present to them. If they ignore it, they ignore it. Great, thank you everyone! I feel much clearer on the issue now. Samia what you say makes sense about it being indirectly for you as you'd be happy if the person/people you are praying for are. Although I've never thought of it logically like that, it really is the main reason people do it. And that verse quoted about Allah being closer than our jugular veins...I've always loved that one and am pretty comforted as it fits well here.
