How much influence does God have over our daily lives? Is it an active or mostly passive role? Peace, As I understand this influence is in the universal laws around us. If we think we're going to float in the air defying gravity, we need to understand GODs law to overcome it. If you floated defying gravity you'd be still under the influence of GOD. There is no getting away. But, notice you can only change how you respond to things. You can respond in kind at a verbal attack or think the person maybe having a bad day and ignore it. There is no automatic cause and effect, but a range of propabilities there fwiw. Peace AS

Have you noticed that these "civilized" european countries also has the highest habitants of non-religious, atheists and agnostics. Maybe it's because they think they have all they need , so they feel that they don't really need God in their lives.

Science will debate and argue this matter for years. It probably won't be long before their definitions change again about planets , stars and moons. Science and God are in harmony the two cannot be separate or science would be a god. Sad to say it already is in a lot of peoples hearts. Space is a beautiful creation of our Lord's I have got lost looking at the night sky several times admiring the wonder of it all. Is their other life? For example, i could let you borrow ?10 and say pay me back ?11 in a month, debt settled, thats fine. BUT if i said borrow ?10 and I'll charge a certian %, say 10%, which GROWS in the money, this is wrong. agreeing a fixed payment is ok, letting it grow (compound interest) is wrong. if anyone has an understanding contrary to this, let me know. thanks.

Peace, Salat comes from '2 horses in a race where the second horse is gaining on the first one, this moment was called sala.' So Salat means attachment, contact, bond but its main meaning is following closely to gain the best position. Almost all salats in the Quran mean 'following the Divine commands closely to gain the best position' and Iqamasalat means 'establish the System that comes from following the Divine commands closely'. Only in some verses Salat means prayer, like in 4102 for example. In 911 it means allegiance. The idea that Salat can only mean one thing is totaly wrong and it is totaly wrong to believe Salat mainly means prayer. The Quran is not a book of religion and worship. The Quran is the constitution for humanity, not a prayerbook. So it must be approached as a constitution and not as a religious book. Prayer only has a psychological purpose, and has only a small part inside the message of the Quran. To abtain Jannah, the higher level, we must follow the Divine commands as laid out in the Quran closely. We are in control of our soul now, as we now have moved on from a bodily evolution to a mental evolution. But we must decide on our own if we want this or not. To attain the higher level we must follow certain Laws, just like evolution had to follow laws to reach this level of sophistication. So good and bad don't excist, only things that will make our soul evolves and the things that will make our soul stagnate. Prayer only is there to create psychological balance and peace. God doesn't care if you acknowledge Him or not. To believe in One God is acknowledging the Truth so you will have the best basis from where you make your decisions and observations of life and reality. All things we do will push our soul to evolution or stagnation. This is the main message of the Quran, and all the Laws that are contained in the Quran are meant to show us the way how to evolve our soul. That is why the main meaning of Salat is 'following the Divine commands closely to gain the best position', and prayer cannot be the main meaning.

Peace brother Layth, If I recall you discarded the common meaning of shahar as being that which is being revealed, and went on to champion a less used/known meaning of full moon. The common meaning of "shahr" is not "that which is being revealed". When you say that someone is "mashhur", this doesn't mean that he is being revealed. It means he is famous and obvious. I agree that the meaning of "full-moon" is less known in Modern Arabic but it is very well known in Classical Arabic and hence it is documented as one of the meanings of "shahr" by Lisan Al-3arab. I would say this writer is not far from what you are doing...He looked at the context and saw that heat does not fit, then he looked around for other meanings to the word (in this case he guessed what the meaning may be). This is very far from what I did. I didn't guess anything. I found the meaning of "full-moon" documented in Lisan Al-3arab. On the other hand, the author is inventing new meanings, not just for "ramadan" but also for "shahr". None of the Classical Arabic dictionaries give the meaning of "shahr" as a 30 day period. This meaning is completely invented by the author. Moreover, the author of the article makes a long thesis about how the period should be a fixed 30 days regardless of lunar cycles and cites as an example the count of the waiting period for the woman whose husband has died and claims that this should always be fixed. However, he ignores the fact that in 2228 the waiting period for divorced women is three menstruations, which is clearly NOT a fixed period. This completely demolishes his argument. I looked at ramadha and its derivates, and one of the meanings given in the Arabic-Arabic dictionary was to hope/wish/intend (rammadha alsiyaam = nawahu). This is not a pre-quranic meaning. Therefore, it is plauasible that Ramadhan neither means cold or hot, but is a month of hope as used in the context of 2185. I don't see how "hope" fits in there. As for the time of revealtion being cold (hence the prophet being blanketted), I take the story of Moses as being more detailed where he specifically tells his family he will get a peice from the fire so that you may be warmed. If God spoke to Moses on laylat alqadr, then it is indeed a night at which time it is cold (at least it rules out the summer months as the nights are never cold). The revelation of the great reading has nothing to do with Moses. If one assumes that all books were revealed during the same time, then the time when Moses received the tablets is more likely to coincide with the timing of the night of measure (because it involves revelation of the book).
