Salaam These guys always refer anything but the Quran and the few times they do they distort the meening. Some globally accepted translations say "Hadeethi" = idle talks and inside brackets they say (Music, singing, etc). Which meens if a man upholds music, singing you go to hell. Also by putting that etc there they have left room for further innovation. Man, any one can use this Ayat to give any kind of doctrine. What blasphemy. Among the people, there are those who uphold baseless Hadith, and thus divert others from the path of GOD without knowledge, and take it in vain. These have incurred a shameful retribution. There many Ayats like this which directly mentions the word Hadith and warns us against them. Check these out (3923) Why? because their ilah is not Allah but its their ego or lust. "Surah 25 43.Have you seen the one whose god is his own ego (Lust) ? Will you be his advocate?" And what was that article. No reference, No base, No argument, No proof. I think he is lost and I agree that Ansar should not only be a cut and paste artist but actually think and be humble in your approach to understanding religion. When you want to say something first think "Who told me this?". Only if god has told you directly through his revelation, then and only then can you really be 100% sure that what you say is correct. Otherwise we must ask for advice "My brother told me this What do you think?". Very simple.

Peace be upon you Doctor, Peace be upon you Doctor, How can you keep an idolworshipper out of your physical house? It is something deeper than that. You must realize that your own human body is a "house" as well as the clothes you wear. We cannot do that and none can do that except when we entrust it with Allah. When you said "EXCEPT" above, does that mean that we CAN keep someone from a PHYSICAL house? Be purified in your heart with the Belief. I am not agaisnt your understanding about giving less importance to the physical aspect of life. I slightly take my view differently to that of yours in that my house is my mind, not the human frame as you suggested. I live with the mind, for the mind and of the mind. You have more than one house, everyting that "shelters" the real "self" is a house.

Peace be upon you, i wouldn't want my wife feeling like a 2nd class citizen within islam or in the masjid Talk about feeling like a second-class citizen, someone should come to our mosque in the US. My cousin came from Canada during Ramadan and asked my younger brother where do women pray in your mosque and he being only 7 said behind the men next to where the shoes are. That's pathetic and true. Men enter the mosque from the front door, while women enter from the back door. The men and women both carry their shoes in their hand and put it at the back which is exactly where the women pray. Anyone who comes in late just throws their shoes towards the back and that's like only one feet away from the place where the women are bowing. As if that wasn't worse enough our "imam" address only to men. He prays and says may God unite all the brothers here and while asking for charity he says, "dear brothers please donate towards the cause of Allah..." Now that's being treated as a second-class citizen!

Peace be upon you Zenje and all, well said, all we can do is what the God's messengers do, deliver the clear message, which is the TRUTH. We can only point them to the LAWS of Life. Show them the interconnectedness of ALL THINGS.

Peace Zenje, And if I may add... 16 89-90 And the Day We send to every nation a witness against them from themselves, and We have brought you as a witness against these. And We have sent down to you the scripture as a clarification for all things, and a guide and mercy and good tidings to those who have surrendered. God orders justice and goodness and that you shall help your relatives, and He deters from evil, vice, and transgression. He warns you that you may remember. Wilson

I have been a born sunni. I do not believe sunnis are Muslims. They do insult everyone who are different. What they dont know is that they are not following Islam. I agree with you raindrop on every sentiment of yours as I was part of the people you have had bad experience of. I regret it, I am learning and I will change. I have discovered who my god is. Ask Taj who his god is. And ansar. Please be a muslim and read the quran and stop saying things that you have only heard from some one. Let me ask you these guys who taught your religion. Was it the Quran or was it your parents, your ancestors maybe? then who is your god??? When we say we give testimony that there is no ilah but Allah (La ilaha illallah) we are only giving lip service. When the say the shahadah their are lying as if you really believe in the shahadah that you are saying you wont look elsewhere for religion. We think that these simple things we do as listening to others for religious teachings other than the quran, idolizing things that take over our whole life. But Allah tells us differently. Our children can be our ilah. Things that cannot create anything, things that are created. Creatures like us. Do they have legs, hands, eyes, ears? Surah 7. He created you from one person (Adam). Subsequently, He gives every man a mate to find tranquility with her. She then carries a light load that she can hardly notice. As the load gets heavier, they implore GOD their Lord "If you give us a good baby, we will be appreciative." But when He gives them a good baby, they turn His gift into an idol that rivals Him. GOD be exalted, far above any partnership. Is it not a fact that they are idolizing idols who create nothing, and are themselves created? Idols that can neither help them, nor even help themselves? When you invite them to the guidance, they do not follow you. Thus, it is the same for them whether you invite them, or remain silent. The idols you invoke besides GOD are creatures like you. Go ahead and call upon them; let them respond to you, if you are right. Do they have legs on which they walk? Do they have hands with which they defend themselves? Do they have eyes with which they see? Do they have ears with which they hear? Say, "Call upon your idols, and ask them to smite me without delay. Our family Surah 9 Proclaim "If your parents, your children, your siblings, your spouses, your family, he money you have earned, a business you worry about, and the homes you cherish are more beloved to you than GOD and His messenger, and the striving in His cause, then just wait until GOD brings His judgment." GOD does not guide the wicked people. Our business. Surah 18 Ideed, his crops were wiped out, and he ended up sorrowful, lament- ing what he had spent on it in vain, as his property lay barren. He finally said, "I wish I never set up my property as a god beside my Lord." No force on earth could have helped him against GOD, nor was it possible for him to receive any help. Our Ego Surah 25 Have you seen the one whose god is his own ego? Will you be his advocate? Let me give you the place in the Quran where it defines what a muslim is and it is simple to understand that if you believe in other things than this then obviously you are not a muslim. You are not Al Muttaqun... Righteousness is not turning your faces towards the east or the west. Righteous are those who believe in GOD the Last Day, the angels, the scripture, and the prophets; and they give the money, cheerfully, to the relatives, the orphans, the needy, the traveling alien, the beggars, and to free the slaves; and they observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat); and they keep their word whenever they make a promise; and they steadfastly persevere in the face of persecution, hardship, and war. These are the truthful; these are the righteous (Al Mittaqun). It is not Al-Birr (piety, righteousness) that you turn your faces towards east and (or) west (in prayers or for information); but Al-Birr is (the quality of) the one who believes in All?h, the Last Day, the Angels, the Book, the Prophets [] and gives his wealth, in spite of love for it, to the kinsfolk, to the orphans, and to Al-Mas?kin (the poor), and to the wayfarer, and to those who ask, and to set slaves free, performs As-Sal?t (Iq?mat-as-Sal?t), and gives the Zak?t, and who fulfill their covenant when they make it, and who are As-S?birin (the patient ones, etc.) in extreme poverty and ailment (disease) and at the time of fighting (during the battles). Such are the people of the truth and they are AlMuttaq?n 2177 Thus if you say Cover your head or face, Live with a mail, dont go to work, be a slave, grow your beard, wear a cap, Cut your nails in a certain way, piss in a certain way to be a muslim actually you are telling her or him to be different. Not to be a muslim. BTW Who is your god or Ilah. God himself or an author of a book or is it your parents. maybe it is your community. Hey have you ever thought that maybe your god is your own ego. Read Quran. It has every thing. If you say no, then you are disputing gods commandment. GOD has revealed herein the best Hadith; a book that is consistent, and points out both ways (to Heaven and Hell). The skins of those who reverence their Lord cringe therefrom, then their skins and their hearts soften up for GOD's message. Such is GOD's guidance; He bestows it upon whoever wills (to be guided). As for those sent astray by GOD, nothing can guide them. (3923) On what basis can we trust anything that does not come from Allah? They say A Hadith is accepted only when its authenticity has been established on the basis of both Fann-i-Riwaayat and Fann-i-Daraayat. Any document that claims to be from God, but in actuality is not would contain some form of error according to the Quran Do they not consider the Quran with care, If it had been from anyone other than Allah, it would contain many discrepancies (482)." Who gave us the authority to judge by anything other than Allah?s revelations? Well, we have been doing so for over a millennium. Who are we any way? God? Lo! WE DID REVEAL THE Torah, wherein is guidance and a light, by which the Prophets who surrendered (unto Allah) judged the Jews, and the rabbis and the priests (judged) by such of Allah's Scripture as they were bidden to observe, and thereunto were they witnesses. So fear not mankind, but fear Me. And barter not My revelations for a little gain. Whoso judgeth not by that which Allah hath revealed such are disbelievers. (544) AND WE PRESCRIBED FOR them therein The life for the life, and the eye for the eye, and the nose for the nose, and the ear for the ear, and the tooth for the tooth, and for wounds retaliation. But whoso forgoeth it (in the way of charity) it shall be expiation for him. Whoso judgeth not by that which Allah hath revealed such are wrong doers. (545) LET THE PEOPLE OF THE GOSPEL judge by that which Allah hath revealed therein. Whoso judgeth not by that which Allah hath revealed; such are evil livers. (547) Allah gave us the power to reason. Lets all do it together.

Peace be upon you Doctor, I do understand that the peaceful mind will deliver the TRUTH No. It is the reverse of it is true. I disagree, the God says that he does not change the condition of a people until they change what is in thier minds(1311). So it is not until we develop a mind of peace that we get the Truth. In fact, the truth is already here staring us in the face, we are just not tuned in to the channel of PEACE so we can see it. Please elaborate on why you see it the opposite way. The Truth of Allah is the ultimate wisdom that we have to keep in our mind "well guarded", heedful. We keep rememberig Him more and more in order that our iman in Him gains in strength. It is the Strength of Iman that invokes His Blessing, the Peace. As long as the truth resides in the heart, the peace survives. Never change your mind from the Truth. As allah says it is His rememberance that makes hearts at peace. -1328 --Those who believe and whose hearts are set at rest by the remembrance of Allah; now surely by Allah's remembrance are the hearts set at rest.

Here are what I wrote in gratitude to those translators Just ask Layth, Marie and Ayman, they are people of this forum, of how much time and effort they are spending to translate the Quran and they are Arabs still!!! So just imagine how much that effort is multiplied when the non-Arabs try to do this translation! I never heard you mentioning any names. Don't Layth, Marie and Ayman look like names to you? And I am sorry that I didn't mention Brs. Shuaib, Someone, Sabo and others that I can't at this moment recall their names. Translations have no value. This thread is not even about Arabic, yet you keep arguing about it, denying the favor of the translators. If translations have no value as you insist, then why are you using them!? Taj If at all there is a favor, it must be from Allah; the translators do their intended work for the sake of Allah and that they shall never do it for my sake; they do not even know who i am; with Allah is their recompense for any good that they did. Who am I to garland any one for their worth; Allah is most trust worthy of all and He is the Best of judges! I am sure that those dedicated translators didnot/do not look for a Jazaa'an or a Shukoora from people, certainly not. They don't need it. They get their satisfaction from Allah's Blessings. I am talking about the people at the receiving end, people like you, who got it the easy way the Quran readily translated. How can you be so ungrateful to them? We say in Arabic "He doesn't thank Allah, he who doesn't thank others!" If translations have no value as you insist, then why are you using them!? It is only to remind myself though not others, through discussions using the translations that human language excellence shall never be the guidance and it is only with Allah, His ayats are. He reveals the ayats to who He wishes, and that the translations can only frame up sentences but they shall not reveal the ayats, for, the ayats are SIGNS of Allah. Did I mention anything about Guidance!? Inna Le Ellah! The above is someone's simple translation I use here. No one needs to toil hard for a translation. Again and again you are denying the hard work of the translators! Please tell me, who shall you turn to, for guidance. Translation has no guidance in it. But the ayats/revelations are with allah alone for guidance. Why can't you stick to the point!? -If you say you do not claim arabic alone can make you understand quran and also admit any one can follow quran through the reading of translation in any other language too, as good as reading in arabic, I retract all my replies. Will you admit to this? i do not believe in cross-examining! How can anyone in this world understand the Quran if They don't understand Arabic or If they don't understand any translation of the Quran? I have been very clear about that. In order to understand the Quran you either need to understand Arabic or you can understand a translation of the Quran. I am ready for debate on this! Let us take this subject in to a separate topic for discussion so that others could see. I denounce translations as perfect and they are of any use as a guide and no way translations Guide you. I do not start the discussion! I want you to start this discussion in consultation with the admins. And why start another thread when there are many already! Just take a look at the Quranic Study section and if you have any comments you can post it there, among the giant translators http//www.free-minds.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2670&start=0 Why discuss Arabic here, where it does not belong to this thread, instead of discussing it in the right place, among the translators themselves!!!??? Look again into what I wrote in one of my previous posts on this thread Praise Allah all you want, in ways that Allah taught us, whether in Arabic or in equivelant words (matching meaning) in other languages. Languages are the creation of Allah. But the Quran has words that no language other than Arabic can contain. Why is that? That is beyond our ability to know. "other than Arabic can contain" That is a very serious misappropriation/miscomprehension. you should have said "Including arabic" Allah did not speak in the Quran with words that the Arabs did not know or understand. The words of the Quran are in clear Arabic tongue. The Arabic DID contain those words. Those words were not strange for the Arabs, and that is a fact. Taj

Peace Idolfree, I was just wondering why none of the messengers in the Quran had their last names mentioned ( like ibn abdullah). This is obviously something purposeful, God doesn't do things in vain. To me your understanding seems to make sense as an explanation for this. Peace

Peace be upon you Commando X, I think you were joking about being on internet sooo long, is that correct? Knowledge can do that In my favorite movie "MATRIX", Neo started learning knowledge (symbolized by the kung Fu he was learning) and stated "I WANT MORE!" Just be careful not to lose your balance, the God says to beware of excesses. The God says to be patient and take your time with things. Make sure you give your physical vehicle the proper amount of sleep. Other than that , there will be times when you stay up all night studying and pondering, that is normal for a seeker of truth. Regarding addictions, if there is something you wan to stop, you must IGNORE the thoughts that come into your head about it. You can only focus on one thought at a time, so have some alternative thoughts ready, there are plenty thoughts in the reading(quran) thatcan replace the thoughts that come from addictions.

Peace be upon you Joe, Greenleaves, all, Green Leaves wrote ...Islam came centuries after Hinduism... Joe wrote I would not personally agree to such a thing. I would not agree to that either, "submission" has ALWAYS been the system, it is not a religion that can come after some other religion, it is THE SYSTEM which has always exsisted, but must be CLEARLY SEEN by each human being.

Salaam Sword, Hi TAJ. Thank you . I also hope living in a world where there is no lsuch labels. Imagine how beautiful it becomes. I appreciate your understanding I dont have a label but I am disturbed. I don?t know why. Let us close this thread Before you close this thread, let me just applaud your sensitivity and concern towards fellow humans. Such stuff does hurt. You can?t just see somebody being ridiculed and just stand there watching and doing nothing x Sometimes I would wish I were deaf so as not to hear some racial or sect-related comments, in jokes and talks! But they are everywhere, in all communities, I believe. Don't you think? Taj

The Quran does talk about it. 23 5. And who guard their private parts, 23 6. Except before their mates or those whom their right hands possess, for they surely are not blameable And as for those who are guilty of an indecency from among your women, call to witnesses against them four (witnesses) from among you; then if they bear witness confine them to the houses until death takes them away or Allah opens some way for them. Peace! Tony By the way, didn't you answer your own question couple of posts ago Salam greenleaves, Any form of sexual intercourse outside marriage is indecent be it with the opposite sex or the same sex. And it is clear that male homosexuality is abhorred in the Quran. 415 does address women sex offenders and this is connected with 242. God in the Quran did not reprimand women for turning their natural desires towards women but instead prescribed a punishment for them in 415 for indecent acts. However, in today's weird society where same sex marriages are allowed in some countries, is sex among between two married females an "indecent" act? That is why a have the question...Is woman to woman weddings allowed in the light of the Quran? Peace! Tony

016.043 And before thee also the messengers We sent were but men, to whom We granted inspiration if ye realize this not, ask of those who possess the Message. In the above verse Allah asks the messenger himself to ask those who posses the message, who are not messengers at all. So beware! Before you pickup and ask the socalled scholars you shall acquire the stauts with the Wisdom Endowed by Allah so that you may rightly indentify the people inspired with Al Wahy! 034.006 And those to whom the Wisdom has been given see that which has been revealed to you from your Lord, that is the truth, and it guides into the path of the Mighty, the Praised.

Thanks, all, for the kind words. Zenje stated Wisdom can be found in the 'unlikeliest' of places. Yeah man! The more you look, the more you find. It's literally everywhere. Sometimes I get overwhelmed, but in a good way. Those are the moments I treasure. Joe stated I think even growing into a strong and independent man, communication and participating with others will not diminish the things you can do to whatever extent is yours You're absolutely right Joe. It's part of the refining process. One must not become overpowered by independance and lose sight of that which is real. I'm learning that minute by minute. You may not always need someone, but we can always engage in activities with them. And that's the moral of the story wink May peace be upon you all, Tay

Salam darcus, Yes, it makes me feel good. I don't think I use it to remember staying on the path...actually with each of my actions i wonder if they were the right thing to do - which is another way of remembering allah. And when i find i was wrong i try to amend myself. This is a "jihad" which actually never ends. But still, may be you're right. May be it helps remembering allah even more. Even though i do "traditional salat" since nearly 20 years, i just started dikhr a few month ago after discovering it with a sufi congregation (which i am not a member of, by the way). The recitation of the gods names just touched me in a special way and this is what made me start - i must say without really thinking about eventual effects - this is why i opened the topic, to know what other people think about the notion of dikhr. And thanks for your thoughts. Elke

I would like to second that. Asad provides a great deal of footnotes. However, unlike most footnotes that exclusively echo the translators interperation of Islam, Asad discusses issues related to the actual translation many times. He explains why he translated a verse in a particular way and also discusses alternative translations, and then offers reasons for his own translation. Peace Very well noticed , i am opinion the quality of his footnotes make almost all the difference between his and translations of others....while many others have slim footnootes or those that only reiterate what is being said in the translation, his footnotes are a book of itself and an exposition and par excellans! They contain many quality refferences to the dictionaries and diferent commentators, all this coloured with his own sensible contemplations, healty reasoning and common sense thinking.....inspite of being suni oriented his understandings are far far from being that.... Best wishes, Zlatan
