Peace. The word in question in 339 is "yusallee". It is also used in 3343, in this context I dont see how one could fit 'learning connection' in. From its usage in Al-Quran, as well as "yasiloo/yoosala" it implies a meaning of reaching/connecting/linking, commiting, going/turning towards. Therefore, 339 would read The Angels called to him while he was standing (reaching/connecting/linking/commiting, turning/going towards) in the Temple enclosure... Kind of like meditation, or deep in prayer. Those given control called to him while he was persisting in the learning connection in the sanctuary "The God gives you good tidings of Yahya, authenticated with the word from The God, and a master, and steadfast, and a prophet from the righteous." Linking between 1911, 337 and 339, we can understand that persisting in the learning connection can be done privately. I agree EXCEPT the alone part. I cant see an example where 'salat' is done alone. The evidence implies otherwise. I believe that there are two types of learning connections/"salawat". The Arabic common name "salat" comes from the root "slw", which has the connotation of connection/link/relation. A connection/link/relation requires at least two participants to be connected/linked/related. Learning is a kind of connection. For example, it is a connection between the teacher and the learner and vice-versa (e.g., 9103, 3164, 622). It is also a connection between the learner and the author of the material one is learning from (e.g., 3343). Hence, there can be two types of learning connections. If there is no difference, does that mean everytime when one studies Al-Quran, one must use the voice and recite Al-Quran? Or must one wash as prescribed in 56/443 everytime they study Al-Quran? There are two types of learning connections. The connection between the learner and the author of the material one is learning from in 3343 doesn't require the voice since we don't hear the voice of the "malaika" in 3343. First type of learning connection (the one you call oration) The God has prepared for them a severe retribution. Therefore, you shall reverence The God, O you who possess intelligence and have faith, The God has sent down to you a reminder. A messenger who recites on you The God's clarifying revelations, to lead those who have faith and work righteousness out of the darknesses into the light. Anyone who has faith in The God and leads a righteous life, He will admit him into gardens with flowing streams; they abide therein forever. The God will generously reward him. Second type of learning connection (can be done alone) 3341-42. O you who have faith, you shall remember The God frequently. And glorify Him morning and evening. He is the One who connects the learning ("yusali&quot on you, He and those He gave control, to lead you out of the darknesses into the light. And He is ever Merciful towards those who have faith. Notice that the purpose (remembering The God) is the same for both types and the effect (take those who have faith out of the darknesses and into the light) is also the same. (1) why is the voice involved in 'salat'? It is involved in the first type of learning connection but not necessarily in the second. I sometimes find it beneficial and it helps me to concentrate and appreciate the sound of it when I read the reading with a moderate voice even alone. (2) Why is a time given for 'salat'? Because of its purpose as a reminder. For it to be a reminder, we must persist in it regularly. Abdelilah

Salaam, 2014 2014 Surely I am Allah, there is no god but I, therefore serve Me and keep up Salaat for My remembrance Purpose of Salaat is to remember Allah alone as per 2014. How to remember others is said in the following aayaats 1916 And remember Marium in the Book when she drew aside from her family to an eastern place 1941 And remember Ibrahim in the Book; surely he was a truthful man, a prophet. If Allah wanted to remember Mohammed's name in Salaat it would have mentioned in AlQuraan which I don't find. But Salaat is purely for remembrance of Allah as per 2014 above. May Allah guide us all to His true path pr Mohammed M. Khan I don't do any Tashahud when I pray. I guess its OK just like some Christians praise Jesus when they pray. But its not a requirement as far as I know.

In this DURATION there are 12 full moons, whicih is the minimum number. That is, there has to be minimum 12 full moons in the time span between the two appearances of the same full moon so that you can call it a DURATION. 12 is a must. If it is fewer than 12 like 11, 10, 9..., you can not call it a duration and you can not use it to date, say, your bills. On the other hand, there surely are 13 full moons in some durations, which proves 12 is minimum but not the maximum number. 13 is also God's truth. A good thing too, because this is the way full moon durations are suited to the solar year. As for the time of the abstinence, God says whoever of you witness the scorrching full moon shall abstain in it (2185) - There need to be no question about it fasting (abstinence) starts the day following the evening when the scorching full moon rises. 16 July this year, 4 July in 2012. Peace Wakas. I am aware of this. Not that I have read all of them, or plan too, lol. I did research this on my own though, and arrived at the times I posted. A reason why only two times are mentioned in some verses, is because recitation is going on at the times, of one of the prayers. So it doesn`t say, "pray now", but rather encourages prayers, at the other times, when recitation is not happening. And as you know, reading/reciting/listening equals prayer.

Salam and Peace, everyone! 1)---Salaat means "the ritual Salaat." 2)---Salaat also means "commitment to Al-Quran." (The meaning of Salaat becomes clear with reference to context. Sometimes it is only ritual, and sometimes it is commitment) After all these dabates, we have not yet reached a final method of offering "the ritual Salaat." Why?---Perhaps, there is something missing. And that something, that is missing is,---that we must go to our Allah and request Him to guide us, because there is no one except Allah to guide His slaves. Read Al-Quran, and we will find that Allah is advising Ibraheem to offer Salaat the way He taught him to do. It means that Allah taught Ibraheem the full method of ritual Salaat. And this full method must be in The Revelations that Ibraheem received from Allah. And because once the full method of the ritual Salaat was given to Ibraheem, and this is valid until Al-Qiyamah, so may be in the next Revelations Allah didn't mention the method of Salaat, only commanded to offer Salaat (the method of which was already given to Ibraheem). It means the method of ritual Salaat that we follow today,---is the same method of ritual Salaat that is coming down from generation to generation since Ibraheem. It might have been so, that at different times people added to the real Salaat, some shirk things. And whenever Allah's Messenger came, they did away with the shirk part that misguided people had added to Salaat, purified it, and gave it to the people. The same Salaat was being offered at the time of Muhammad in Makkah. People had added shirk things again to the Salaat, and the real method was not easy to find out. When Muhammad was declared as Messenger of Allah, he must have taken away shirk form the Salaat, purified it and gave it to ummah. Allah declares in His Exalted Quran, that His Quran is in His Protection. It means that everything in Al-Quran is in Allah's Protection. Nothing from Al-Quran will be changed or lost. So, Salaat is one of Allah's Commandments, so Salaat is also in Allah's Protection. The way Al-Quran is coming down from generation to generation in Allah's Protection,-----the same way Salaat is also coming down from generation to generation in Allah's Protection. Having Iman in it, we must believe that today we have the same method of ritual Salaat that was first given to Ibraheem. Al-Quran is The Light. And The Light shows people what is right and what is wrong, what is Tauheed and what is shirk. This will be our own fault, if in spite of having Allah's Quran (Allah's Guidance), we are unable to find out the real method of Salaat. Now, look at the method of the Salaat, we presently have,-----examine it, in The Light of The Quran,-----and whatever shirk things we find in it, we must do away with that. Rest is absolutely okay. Reciting from Al-Quran, standing, ruku, sajdah, everything is alright. Al-Quran, The Light,-----is Allah's Guidance,-----that will take us to the real method of the ritual Salaat. Look at all the rituals different nations have. Our method of ritual Salaat is the best. First you stand like an obedient slave before your Allah. Then you do ruku. Then you do sajdah. No method, as such, is so obedient and humble as ours. ================================================================================= If there had been no Sahih Al-Bukhari, etc,---still we would have the same method of ritual Salaat that was given to Ibrheem (AS). This is the "Millata Ibraheema (Salaat, Hujj, Umrah)" that Allah commanded the last Messenger to follow -----"Then, We inspired you (O Messenger, saying) ?Follow the religion of Abraham, exclusively devoted. And he was not of those who associated (others with Allah)." (Al-Nahl-123) If "Millata Ibraheema (Salaat, Hujj, Umrah)" had not been in Allah's Protection and if it had been disappeared,-----why would have Allah ordered the Messenger (and the ummah) to follow it, without mentioning their methods in datail in Al-Quran? So, the methods of "Millata Ibraheema (Salaat, Hujj, Umrah)" was already there and being practiced, so Allah didn't mention their methods in Al-Quran. The last Messenger only purified these rituals from shirk, and ordered his ummah to follow. Salaat is not in Imam Bukhari's Protection.---Don't put the crown on his head. Salaat is in Allah's Protection, and He knows how to protect it for His obedient slaves who do not commit shirk with Him. As a matter of fact, I learned Salaat from my parents.---Never read Sahih Al-Bukhari. My parents learned from their parents.---They never read Sahih Al-Bukhari. Their parents learned from their parents.---They never read Sahih Al-Bukhari. -----and this goes, until we reach the Prophet. This is in Allah's Protection. Where do we find Imam Bukhari? If MAA is water and not Liquid ( modern word arabic Souyoula ) if tayamum is wiping ourselves with dirt ! than what does the word tayamamu in this verse mean, if it's not about economy ? peace ths, This is slightly off topic, but I just wanted to point out that this isn't a very strong argument. In pondering the infamous 434, I often wonder the exact same thing. If the vast majority of people will misunderstand this verse and fail to adhere to it, and the word 'idrab' is very close in meaning to another word, then why would God not make it absolutely clear? You have ignored these questions in the case of 434, but in this case you stand by the 'argument from mass failure to adhere.' I have covered this in Quran434.com, see the 'summary with conclusion' section. Also, you have erred as it is not a like for like comparison. In the case of the verses in this thread, it is very difficult to impossible to actually adhere to what they think AQ says. In the traditional interpretation of 434 their interpretation is relatively simple to follow. What are your impressions of that video? His background/intro to the subject is fine for the most part, and he provides a more accurate traditional interpretation than what is commonly thought, e.g. many Muslims seem to think one can go straight to DRB without doing the other steps first, when this is not the case. It would be extremely unlikely for Hamza Yusuf to come to the same conclusions as Quran434.com simply because it would seem he does not fully go by AQ and he fails to cover many points. Of course, that would be too detailed and perhaps problematic for him to cover in a lecture, but it was interesting noting how he skips over and distorts a few things, e.g. he says all the exegetes say 434 is not about fearing by the husband its about the wife entering into gross disobedience, i.e. something blatant, see from 1640 in the video, when this is not the case at all. I am of the view that the case put forth in Quran434.com is now overwhelming. For me, there is no other answer, I am confident of that. Much to my surprise I might add, hence publishing it as a book, which should be available in a few months. I agree that verses are dense with meaning. You may be interested to know that in "K. al nasikh wa-l-mansukh" by Abu Ubaid al-Qasim b. Sallam (d. 224AH/839), one of the earliest works in its field and available to read here, he refers to 8 different interpretations of this verse (some of them absurd I might add). It is clear, that even in the early period, there was no definitive known meaning of these verses. Interestingly, Quran commentators such as Richard Bell have commented that these verses are virtually unintelligible. Of course, if only he and others had disregarded Tradition, it may have been much clearer. Can you clarify how you rendered it as "And to everyone is a direction that God is its turner (to himself)" and "wherever you are God comes with you all". I have them as "And for each is a direction he turns towards it (or "..he is a turner to it)" and "God will bring you all together" respectively. I have made notes on these verses, as part of my SJD article, but they are only in rough form.

Dead thread but i wanted to give my opinion it It doesn't say just salat it says Salat and and and and So how can we be sure if we do all those other "and" but dont do salat we will still go to hell?

Salaam Jinn, Why you need 'marking arrows' when there are already FOOTPRINTS in a contrast color that is more than enough to look at it before actually looking at the prayer mat Again, a circle is enough for head mark, instead of all marking arrows and text, better to write in the middle "Prayer Mat" that is more than enough to understand that this piece of cloth is used only for prayer D In my case, I like simple and neat 'checks' or 'diamonds' or something very simple and neat that don't distract you from your prayers. Via PM, almarh0m has asked me to clarify what I meant. By mess up the Arabic, I meant imply wrongly what is in the Arabic, see corpus.quran.com for a word for word. e.g. you seemingly completely ignore "aw rukbanan". And by cross-reference within AQ I meant if you choose a word to mean X, when it commonly or perhaps never does mean X in AQ, then either you give us a reason or simply say "I did not cross-reference the word within AQ" meaning you did not check to see if it meant what you said it means elsewhere in Al Quran. e.g. "by step/instalment", i.e. your seemingly figurative use of "rijalan". It's all very simple with the tools available online these days. In fact, I would go as far as to say it is amazingly simple now. Whether one wishes to do this however, is another story.

Salaam KR, Ok that explanation is good, but i see many people telling a different way of how they understand salat so im not sure which one it is but ill stick to yours for now even tho i don't do salat yet i need it for later God willing. Don't rush brother. All the aayaats are given for each step of Salaat, do NOT fall on blindly. Take your time, ponder and judge them all and seek Allah's help for the guidance towards the truth. Again, do NOT fall on others understandings and don't worry, Allah is always with us for help and The Best and True Guidance. "It is We who have sent down the zikr/remembrance and surely We will surely preserve it." (159) I'm not sure exactly what entails salat still; if you say that meditation is zikr then surely this verse changes the meaning of that. To attain the state of reverence is EASY! Step one, clean yourself. Clean body, clean mind. Then let go of everything and open up your brain's filters. We ignore 90% of our surroundings because we're entrained to a certain point of focus. My present understanding is that al-masjid al-haram is perhaps this state of reverence where everything flows perfectly. But that doesn't explain the verses about pilgrimage and so on and so forth, but it does explain what I believe al-quran means in saying turn your face to al-masjid al-haram wherever you are. And notice 2144 - Indeed We see the turning of your face to heaven, so We shall surely turn you to a qiblah which you shall like; turn then your face towards the Sacred Mosque, and wherever you are, turn your face towards it, and those who have been given the Book most surely know that it is the truth from their Lord; and Allah is not at all heedless of what they do. 2185 - The month of Ramazan is that in which the Quran was revealed, a guidance to men and clear proofs of the guidance and the distinction; therefore whoever of you is present in the month, he shall fast therein, and whoever is sick or upon a journey, then (he shall fast) a (like) number of other days; Allah desires ease for you, and He does not desire for you difficulty, and (He desires) that you should complete the number and that you should exalt the greatness of Allah for His having guided you and that you may give thanks. Surely this is easier and more fruitful than any ritual prayer! But I think this is zikr rather than salat. Salat i take to be awareness and strengthing of righteousness (for me it greatly helps to remember the source of righteousness) Then when i go about my day, the weaknesses i have which i reflect on are like safeguarded from happening. Sometimes they occure mildly but ultimately once the set finishes it's like in my subconscious and then i move to a new set of weaknesses but somethings are core For exmaple The process I described will do none other than increase awareness and strengthen righteousness. You read in the morning and evening, and you are constantly on your guard trying to follow ALLAH. The best thing is that whenever you slip from the state, you can easily restart it. You see, you are in a constant state of salat no matter what and hence 1074 - And woe to those who observe the salat 1075 - Who are totally heedless of their salat
