Peace all, A while ago, I said that i would post some of my thoughts and findings on salat. I have decided to post my ongoing research at quranwiki.net. My purpose in doing this is the hope that the study can be expidited by input from as many people as possible. The information is incomplete and awaiting your input. make any changes you wish and treat it a s a test of whether or not we can make this quranwiki concept work. You can access the info here http//www.quranwiki.net/index.php?title=Salat I look forward to your brutal, but fair input. Imraan Peace Imran, Thanks for the link, and your effort, your work is really appreciated. I will surely use the wiki to "test" the meaning of SALAT in all verses occurence. Peace

Salaam Verse 2458 could be seen as one of the verses that has partly a geographical context - high temperatures during daytime and relative late dawn and early dusk. Within a community in such an area, it would be normal to stay awake after the morning-prayer, to go asleep after the evening-prayer and to rest during the hours when the temperature is most high. Especially when there is no electricity for light or airconditioning - it would be the best way of living - to be able to work during the hours of the day that are bearable and have sunlight and to rest during the hours that have a too high temperature, or that one can not see outside. For other circumstances - for instance with early -fadjr- and a bearable temperature at midday - the Koran seems to forbid nothing. One does not have to rest during the middle of the day or one can easily go to bed again after the morning-prayer to avoid sleep deprivation. One is free to make rules in the house that support a household with people who have slept well and enough, within the context of the Koranic rulings. Salaam Truthseeker171 Disclaimer the study of the Koran is work in progress, every information in any posting on this forum should be controlled by the believers themselves in the best way - verse 1736.

peace I got really excited when I found out about Kiva too and then disappointed when I learned about the interest. I mean, I can totally understand it. They have to have coordinators to take the repayments and organise everything and in order to do that successfully they charge the interest to cover it. I was reading this thread waiting for something to come out about it ) Glad to hear there are some opportunities for Muslims without using interest though. Microcredit has done so much to help people and it's really heartening when something so small to some can affect huge changes to others. Muhammad Yunus got a Nobel Peace prize for his microcredit work in Bangladesh. ) Praise God.

Salaam Mohammed 1121 1121 Say He is Allah, the One 961 961 Read in the name of your Lord who has created. 2945 2945 Recite what is inspired to you of the Book, and hold the contact prayer, for the contact prayer prohibits immorality and vice; but certainly the remembrance of Allah is the greatest. Allah knows everything you do. When Allah ask you "Qul" means "Say" you can read back the same words in Salaat. That means, you cannot ask Allah to "Say" Allah is One. If you want to use Sura Ahad in Salaat, you have to say from after "Qul", that means you have leave the word "Qul" then you can say it. You are right in pointing to this difference of reciting and saying reciting as reading from the book is different from saying/reciting verses from the Koran by heart. Still any verse or word from the Koran can be said during the -salat- as long this helps to remember God. I agree with your point that it might be better to skip the word -qul- when reciting one of the last three chapters during the -salat-, but also this is not obligatory. We can enjoy the freedom of choice when the Creator gives it. Brother the aayaats are for some special case not for normal Salaat. And I believe even 629-10 is also not a group-Salaat. I know, people have to gather but they have to perform Salaat individually. This is how I understand. verse 629-10 - the communal middle prayer verse 4102 - the prayer with the messenger It is correct that verse 4102 is about -salat- in case of danger - but from it we can deduce that the -salat- can be done in a group. The special ruling of this verse seems to be that the group should be divided and take turns to pray together with the prophet. The communal -salat- seems to be a normal event and is not restricted otherwise anywhere in the Koran. Verses 629-10 indicate that there can be a communal prayer when believers happen to be together. But since the relevant verses relate to the presence of the prophet, one could say that the communal prayer is not an important issue. It might be up to the believers to pray alone or in a group. Anyway the Koran does not forbid to pray in a group. Allah said 245 245 And seek help through patience and through the contact prayer. It is a difficult thing, but not so for the humble. This means, everyone has their own problems and need help from Allah for the same. How can they seek help from Allah in a group Salaat? And I don't see any other aayaats saying about group Salaat. Verse 245 may refer to the ritual -salat-, but can also refer to the general bond, as in verse 2945. The bond with God in general gives us true aid and prohibits immorality and vice. The ritual -salat- itself alone does not prohibit immorality and vice. Performers of the ritual prayer can behave very differently. Rather in the total -salat- in following all the relevant commands of the Koran and not in the ritual prayer alone, we might find help. Even when verse 245 refers only to the ritual -salat- then a communal form of prayer would not block that one can seek help in it. Any prayer or remembrance of God, in a group or alone can have benefits. The mere remembrance of God can have several positive psychological effects. Actually verse 2014 orders us to remember God alone during the ritual -salat-, and not to focus on the personal problems that one might have, this could distract us. After or before the -salat- throughout the day, one can ask God because of personal problems when one feels this is needed. The ritual -salat- is to remember God alone. Salaaman LB13, I'm reviewing all that I studied, i noticed I figured many things wrong, specially after a while in this forum, I will post what I understood of salat , to get corrected only, and there is a difficulty to extract a rituel from the quran, i believed in the begining that prophet mohamed was faught because he abolished rituels, and than i started to believe in 2 salats, morning and evening, I'm still believing in the 2 times, but I review inshallah my understanding of Standing and prostrating, and studying the quran thanx There is nothing to get confused bro. I am sure you are getting confused at "Standing and Prostrating" with "Prostrating and Standing". If the words is swapped with each other, that means it is not referring to the same point. It is that simple. That has been done in purpose to tell you something else. The aayaats that talks about "Standing and Prostrating" is more than enough to understand the message. Why are you looking at the other way to catch the same point bro? May Allah guide us all towards the truth pr Mohammed M. Khan

if i was wrong i would have prayed 3 (at least) more prayers than what's ordered by god, i would have did more effort and be more rewarded. bravo Very well said bro. Try praying 4 rakaats instead of 3 in your salaat al-maghrib, to get more reward for more efforts. May Allah guide us all towards the Truth pr Mohammed M. Khan

Salaam MesMorial, Is it compulsory for a traditionalist to raise their hands to their ears or shoulders in prayer? Are there any ahadith where this is not the case? When you follow 56 you are ready for Salaat. No need get ready again for the second time by raising your hands. Allah asked us to 2238 2238 Maintain the contact prayers; and the middle contact prayer; and stand for Allah dutifully. This is important brother not raising of hands. They're mirrored in timing - that's the beauty of it. Or early and late in the night p True , never thought of it this way, in the same time early and late in the day as night that is artistic though, too much perfection.

peace all, AQ = al quran salat = bond salam wakas, interesting find, but since 2004 until now i have not been able to find a definite term for 'salat' (which for you is 'bond&#039, even though personally i am definitely sure that 'salat' is not a 'ritual prayer' or 'duAAa' or 'blessing'. by this i do not mean that 'ritual prayer' or 'duAAa' or 'blessing' is a wrong understnding of 'salat'. no. to each his own. in general terms i understand 'salat' to mean 'relationship', but for specifics i take it to mean 'connection', 'bond', and even 'communion', depending on usage. for the plural i use 'cordial relationships', since this is what we are commanded to uphold, whether it is with people or with God. for example, my personal understanding (i am by no means asking anyone to follow this understanding) of the first few sentences of 'albaqarah' may read like this • It is a gut feeling. • That message is indubitable, there is guidance in it for the mindful. • They are people who believe secretly and correct the relationship, and out of what We gave them, they share. • And they are people who believe in what was revealed to you (s) and also what was revealed before you, and in the end they are convinced. • These people are on guidance from their Lord, and these people are the successful ones. in 002045, it reads "And seek recourse patiently and in relationship/connection, but it is certainly burdensome, except for people who are humble." (the command is "to be always in connection with God" when we are facing challenges, or difficulties, or even in making an effort to turn over a new leaf after we have sinned or strayed from the godly path, so that God will guide us out/through.) in 002157, it reads "These people enjoy cordial relationships from their Lord as a blessing, and these people are the correctly guided." and so on. among our biggest problems is i think, in establishing the correct relationship with God. this forms the basis, i think, of our conduct in the life of this world, as i suppose a correct relationship with God will surely entail a correct way of life; correct in our thoughts and deeds, thus leading into being correct as true servants of God. it may be simply about the essential issue of 'khuluq'. as always this is merely my personal comprehension. i might be wrong, yet maybe worth a ponder. may God guide us correctly, insha-Allah. mohammed noh

Salaam, In 1779 and 7320, it clearly states that this voluntary act (NFL) is not a "salat". It is studying the quran, I agree with you totally that 'Tahajjad' is NOT Salaat. 1779 1779 And from the night you stay awake with it additionally for yourself, perhaps your Lord would grant you a station that is praiseworthy. 732-4 also refers to the same. which is very similar to salat. How is this you say brother that it is similar to Salaat? Do you have any supporting aayat? Please quote me an ayaat. May Allah guide us all towards the Truth pr Mohammed M. Khan

Peace MesMorial, It does not matter to me how different people interpret it. The point of this post is simply a response to sectarianists and being a particular type of Qur'an-alone Muslim I accept some ahadith as history. If what I understand from Qur'an is confirmed in the ahadith (or vice versa) then I can accept it (I don't accept it as obligatory, but merely as acceptable in itself). There are few ahadith for that, but another is the sacred months. We know that the lunar calendars changes a little each year and thus the names of some months will not match their season. However if we look at the names of the months then it becomes apparent which they are. This is confirmed by the most authentic hadith (the same hadith that confirms the Qur'an-alone perspective). This is the sectarianist Sunni view. What if writing from a Spanish book in history contained some things that agreed with The Quran, such as promoting the prohibition of stealing, murder, promoting serving God, etc. but also contained some nonsensical narrations - would you follow it as a source for islam beside The Quran? The point is not only following the "Quran alone" because there are many faulty narrations/"ahadith" attributed to islam and Muhammad, but because God sent us a complete, clear and detailed book that needs absolutely NO supplemental writing to be complete. If you want to follow a "hadith" nonetheless, I suggest this one "The prophet said'Do not write anything from me except the Quran. Whoever wrote , must destroy it" (Muslim, Zuhd 72; Hanbel 3/12,21,39). ;D 456 These are God's signs that We recite to you with truth. So, in which hadith, after God and His signs, do they trust?

Peace Mohammed What do you mean by that bro? 2184 2184 A few number of days; however, if any of you is ill or traveling, then the same number from different days; and as for those who can do so but with difficulty, they may redeem by feeding the needy. And whoever does good voluntarily, then it is better for him. And if you fast it is better for you if only you knew. "Yuteeqoonahu" does not mean "difficulty" but it means "Taaqat" or "Power" or "Energy" or "Capacity" or "Ability", etc. Whatever one takes "Yuteeqoonahu" to mean, it would include the ability to do that which is being referred to in the verse. Still, why no repetition of the second concession in verse 185. The other thing is that if we view the redemption as feeding a poor man, what does a poor man do if he finds himself in this position as he would qualify to be fed, but does not have the ability to feed himself, let alone someone else? Is this concession only for rich people? This is something that I think needs to be investigated throughout the Quran because there are many places that seem to only allow for rich people to get away with things. This does not seem just to me, but that is another discussion. In point no.2 what has to be "redeem" with? Saum? I don't think so, I think "That TIME of Saum" has to be redeem and anyhow he has to complete the counting in other days. This is only for those who has energy/ability to Saum while ill or travelling. Cause, they have energy/ability, but they don't want to Saum at that TIME, so they can redeem their time and fast on other days. And if they fast during ill or while travelling, if they have energy/ability, that is better for them. For those who are ill or travelling BUT don't have energy/ability, they simply have to complete their saum in other days. Even in this understanding, why no repetition of the second concession in verse 185. I still see the two verses as being progressive according to developmental evolutionary stages of different communities. Imraan

Salam all Apologies if these videos have already been posted (I couldn't find them anywhere on here). I stumbled upon these a while back and just wanted to share them. They basically show Christians, Jews and Buddhists praying in a similar fashion to how Muslims pray. http//www.youtube.com/watch?v=GotZChz_suU http//www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aHWASyMjwg&feature=related - This ones a little bit long. http//www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBp63YNung0&playnext=1&list=PLD4BBEBCEC52DCCD3&index=5 So basically I wanted to ask from watching these videos do people believe that Islam has copied these practices from previous religions? has the practice of prostration always been around and there was no need for Muslims to change it? Or are there other explanations? Salam Yesar Same source, same religion, from adam to the end of the world , Abraham didn't invent salat, he performed it as commanded, just like the ones before him, from the first human .

Peace, The purpose of salat as bringing others closer to God occurs in a passage that starts at 973 and continues on to verse 110. 973-110(103) The comparison between the believers and the hypocrites continues with special reference to their respective willingness or unwillingness to go out in the cause of God (v.73-102). Never cause salat to the hypocrites (v.84). The types of Arabs are contrasted; those that take what they spend as a fine and wait for evil to turn on the believers (v.9 and those who consider what they spend and the salat of the messenger as bringing them closer to God (v.99). Those who mixed good with evil and acknowledged their fault should have their sadaqat accepted by the messenger and he should cause their salat because his salat will bring them peace (v.103). The masjid built on ?dirar?, ?kufr? and disuniting the believers should not be upheld by the believers (v.107-110). We see here that the salat is specific to the messenger. What does this mean? We could view it as being particular to Muhammad, though I think this unlikely considering the universal message of the Quran. It certainly referred to him at the time, but I think that it makes more sense to view it as the salat of any messenger at any time. How does this salat bring others closer to God? We notice that further on the salat of the messenger brings peace to others. How does the salat of the messenger bring peace to others? This was discussed under the second purpose of salat. Below are some additional thoughts on the purpose of salat under discussion as well as those relating to bringing peace and tranquillity to others. Do the answers to the two questions above lie in salat taking place between people or should we be looking at how salat for remembrance of God or any other purpose bring about closeness to God or peace for others. Unity in truth is also an important component of the context of this passage. Whatever the conclusions drawn, the fact is that the salat of the messenger must be capable of bringing OTHERS closer to God. These are some of my thoughts on a purpose of salat being brining of others closer to God. What are your thoughts? Imraan
