Addition to my last post I am not sure if his idea of the calendar and ramadan is correct. I still follow the traditional calendar for Ramadan. Though, I have made an interesting observation as stated in my previous post.

Hi Tlepsh, In my opinion Saum is self discipline done by studying the quran and learning the difference between the good and the bad (the white thread and the black thread.) Siyam is not a punishment it is a mercy from god. Siyam is not abstaining from eating, drinking, and intercourse. It is the process of learning what is good and what is bad (studying Quran.) in order to be prevented from bad (to be taqi). Good conclusion- but i would add it as also "learning/training/ forming a habit so as not to enter the forbidden that is in reach of your lances or hands or you" peace

Peace Simple, How is the already established arbitrary Roman system "far superior"? What is so special or universal about an arbitrary month called February? If you went into a coma and woke up, can you figure out on your own that it is now February 18, even if you had a calendar? Peace, Ayman Br Ayman, i will let you decide http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=9597913.0 peace

peace salaam4usa, The person whom you spoke with does not follow The Quranic timing, but follows traditional timing. That is why you get the difference you have observed. The Quran is very clear that swm/abstinence begins at morning twilight. Whenever in such a discssion, simply ask for a reference, i.e. what they are basing their view on. Things are much clearer then.

Salaaman Akponly, to the forum. I could be wrong...Allah knows best. I am just adding the possibilities that I see. You gave your answer yourself. (2183) O you who believe, fasting is decreed for you as it was decreed for those before you perhaps you may be righteous. The command to fast applies to all believers, whether they are rich or POOR. The meaning is plain and simple. Wrong! The command to fast applies only to rich believers. How? Continue..... Whoever of you is ill or traveling, then the same number from different days; . One should look at the general application of the verse in actual life situation In this, I will focus on the POOR believers. There is a question of why a POOR believer undertakes a travel (journey) And how would a POOR believer go on travel (journey) if he has no means? It does not make sense to me. If, indeed, such POOR believer opts to travel (journey), then his travel would be a ?travel (journey) of suffering?. I think there is a need to review and explore all possible contextual meaning of the verse on traveling. Why? I see lot of poor, very poor people working in Dubai. They traveled to Dubai and they are happy. and as for those who can do so but with difficulty, they may redeem by feeding the needy. And whoever does good voluntarily, then it is better for him. And if you fast it is better for you if you knew. Here again, one should look at the application of the verse in real life situation. There is no problem with the rich, for he can easily feed a needy. But, what about the POOR believer ? How would a Miskin believer feed another miskin if the former is himself in need? It does not make sense to me again. A miskin believer with fasting difficulty cannot make any redemption and doing so would make his life more difficult. This would contradict the verse (2185) ? God wants to bring you ease and not to bring you hardship;? And the quran also states in 2362? And We do not burden a soul except with what it can bear??. And I have experienced that fasting (traditional) is not as an easy task. And what can you say about those poor fasting Moslems whose livelihood depends on manual labor, under the heat of the sun ? Ease or hardship? Yes! Here is the answer. If miskin believer feeding another miskin? Who is getting fed here? What means needy? Needy of food? Is this miskin not fasting? How is he taking food? I think, poor people has to be fed by rich when rich people are not fasting for whatever reasons. Over time, the traditional meaning of sawm as fasting has a long lasting effect on most of the Moslems that they cannot take any other meaning except what is handed down to them by their parents. And they do not dare to ask! By clinging to traditional meaning, one will have a contradictory and out-of-the-real-world interpretation of the cited verses. In addition, by taking the context of the verse mentioning Mary (1926) one will find a different meaning of sawm. . The quran encourages us to find the best meaning (391 and we are also told that we cannot find contradiction in Quran (482). I think, 1926 does not have another meaning of sawm, but as per my understanding Sawm means 'to keep ourselves away'. Maryam was keeping away herself from speaking to other people. And we are commanded to keep ourselves away from food and water. In addition, I would like to say that you have mentioned earlier in this post a translation of "Tattaqoon" (last word of 2183) as righteous is wrong. Tattaqoon means something similar to Sawm 'to keep ourselves away from what ever is prohibited / unlawful for us from Allah'. Here again, it may help my understanding that rich persons may need to get an habit to be away from something (Allah knows best). But poor persons are already away from so many things, so why they need sawm? Please correct me if you feel I am wrong. Allah knows best. He is only best Knower of all. May Allah open our hearts to understand His word. Regards, mmKhan

Hello all, Well it makes sense that ramadan should start earlier as it it were to cross over to the cooler months nearing winter, it would be very dangerous. For the cooler months we need food (thermogenic-yes we need food all year round too) and shelter and maybe the skins/furs of animals as extra clothings to keep warm. Well one should remember quran was revealed about 1200 years ago and the message had remained the same and also generations way way way before that also would have had such a similar Book Of God for their use. Of course the state of things now is quite different in terms in clothing etc, but there's no guarantee. BUT now, we need proof. Hopefully anyone of us would be able to come up with the answer. salaam..... Salaam Rajah, You see only your side of the world whereas God see?s us all. It?s equally dangerous in hot weather in countries where the temp is in the range of 50c and days are longer. Along with food, you need to keep up with the supply of water and salt, or there is a serious danger of dehydration. However, as you know, no one is expected to do more than what they can bear so there is the option to feed the poor. The purpose of fasting is not to punish us but to make us experience what if feels like, in all seasons, to be without food and water. Well one should remember quran was revealed about 1200 years ago and the message had remained the same and also generations way way way before that also would have had such a similar Book Of God for their use. Of course the state of things now is quite different in terms in clothing etc, but With the modern facilities, I am sure, most of us have seen images of starving people in, mainly, African countries and, every time I see those pictures I say to myself ?when we fast, at least we have the hope that food will be there for us in the evening, whereas for them its no end of fasting; nothing for them to look forward to. The image of starving children clinging to the mothers with sad, dried up breasts haunts me and brings tears to my eyes, especially in Ramadan. Only with the experience deep in your body of ravishing hunger and thirst can you truly empathise with their suffering. Yes!!! "the message had remained the same" When one experiences thirst and hunger and keeps in mind that the reason we are commanded to do it is to make us fearing and obeying( mutaqeenn) the result will be that we develop empathy and humility and a sense of responsibility to act as true trustees of this world. but there's no guarantee We could one day end up in a situation where we have no supply of food and water and those who fasted will be better equipped to deal with the situation. I believe the main reason for each and every one of us to experience what its like to be without food water any sort of nourishment for the body so we may fear that it could happen to us and to obey God by working for the benefit of the world at large. That is why, if you cannot fast, you feed the poor so either way you save food contribute towards eliminating the shortage of food. l remember reading some research by a non-Muslim that if the whole world was to fast just for one day there would be enough food to feed everyone. In that research he particularly mentioned the Muslim way of fasting for a month and, how such a method would result in saving food. As for the benefit of fasting are huge but the purpose of fasting is linked to feeding the poor and 2183 O you who believe, fasting is decreed for you, as it was decreed for those before you, that you may attain salvation

Peace Belal, Tell this to the god. He is the one who gave us this description in the great reading and created the moon. He is also the one who has put a seal on your heart and mind and has blinded you so that you are unable to read his book and the following part from the article as well as see with your own eyes my avatar "For the same reason that sunsets can be vivid red, the low-hanging moon frequently takes on a beautiful pink or orange hue as a result of scattered moonlight in Earth's dusty atmosphere." Peace, Ayman Ayman, Still it does not apear as the one in my link; mine is more Scorching than yours rotfl Ayman, Why do I have to chase you around to give me an straight answer so we can end this Circus Answre if you Fear Allah Peace Ayman To end this, please read the following If the following is true ?and We have sent down to thee the Book explaining all things, a Guide a Mercy and Glad Tidings to Muslims. (16-89) and if the following is true And Allah will judge with Truth but those whom (men) invoke besides Him, will not to judge at all. Verily it is Allah Who hears and sees. (40-20) And if the following is true Whatever it be wherein ye differ, the decision thereof is with Allah Such is Allah my Lord in Him I trust, and to Him I turn. (42-10) Then, proof to me and to all that 1-The word Rammadan=Heat 2-The word Shahar=Full Moon 3-The Word M3dodat=few or 10 days From the Quran, as I did prove that they don't from Quran. Otherwise, you have no Ground in claiming that Shahar Rammadan=Scorching Moon, and we should fast for ten days

salaam alaikum, elorkum vanakkam... Fasting is dangerous ,maybe. rsw said 'There must be something wrong with this idea.' maybe it has been taken out of context. If you see fasting as a punishment it may make absolue sense. Below is the link where all the verses about fasting are refered to. You will see all of it will point to fasting as a means of punishemnt. http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=15421.45 my take/stab at it If you look at it,God's bounty is food and water, foremost. For those who violate HIS laws, HE would take away access to the HIS bounty..of course depends on the intergrity of the one being punished. One of HIS ingenious punishments.... HE is so kind... Salaams All, here is an example of what the shahr are- So what are the two shahr in the following? 004.092 YUSUFALI Never should a believer kill a believer; but (If it so happens) by mistake, (Compensation is due) If one (so) kills a believer, it is ordained that he should free a believing slave, and pay compensation to the deceased's family, unless they remit it freely. If the deceased belonged to a people at war with you, and he was a believer, the freeing of a believing slave (Is enough). If he belonged to a people with whom ye have treaty of Mutual alliance, compensation should be paid to his family, and a believing slave be freed. For those who find this beyond their means, then abstain the two shahr by being steadfast in repentance (seeking) from Allah for Allah hath all knowledge and all wisdom. Willful killing is forbidden, but being an accident the two shahrs envisaged are to free a debtor and to pay compensation. But if you can?t do these then be repentant (seeking) from Allah so as to be indebt and obedient. Good hunting.

Salam Re differences in Lifestyle I think we can all pretty much relate to that. Re confusing and depressive that's why many go back to sects or choose a new sect! it's part of the test! alhamdu lillah that some people are stronger than that. Just do the best you can. Don't accept anything unless you can verify it. and be patient and trust in Allah. There is a time for everything. Allah is not just going to teach you everything at once! There will be a time for all those working on unity and peace with Allah's triumph and destroying sects and hatred. Just remember that you are NOT alone and that If you obey the majority of people on earth, they will divert you from the path of God. They follow only conjecture; they only guess. (6116) "The majority of people, no matter what you do, are not believers." (12103) YES the test of being in this life is more difficult and complex than you think 2155 Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere, 4731 And We shall try you until We test those among you who strive their utmost and persevere in patience; and We shall try your reported (mettle). Many of us have established their networks with brothers and sisters worldwide on social networks, forums, emails, messengers, etc. so you're never alone. Hope that helps. Peace.

In the quran the word ramadhan only appears once and with another word "shahr". So it would be "moon of scorching heat"..It is not technically a name of a month but the way the moon appears (depends on where you live). Bro Ayman wrote a very insightful article which I read many moons ago (pun...maybe) but failed to realise that ramadhan alone will not make sense and was never meant to be a ame of a month.. peace........................

neither praying nor fasting is forbidden during menstruation ... it is all lies invented to stop you from remembering and communicating with God and to sacrifice for God while you fast so that we may fear. I agree. I also feel that men (unbelievers/hypocrites) invented this so they could maintain their "better than woman" stance. Unfortunately this is found in all religions in some form or another. The only thing woman (and men) should NOT do during menstration is intercourse, as stated in 2222. That's it! Menstration is God's design. It doesn't make sense that God would tell women NOT to do something He instructed because of a condition He designed. Actually, it is a beautiful design! One that, in itself, is a cleansing necessary for a woman's reproductive system. Maybe God added the part about those who are cleansed in this verse... just to expose the unbelievers. peace, dotty
