You ask questions, not because you want to know, but beause you want to "test", and that's unacceptable. I replied to your question in the way I would give in to a noisy child, just to buy the piece of my mind.

I was not chasing you with a meaningless question and insisting that you answered it. I wouldn't even have bothered if you did not reply, because I had already moved on.

            Samia

            Salaam Nun

Thanks for your reply. Do you mean that God assigned Jeurasalem a "qibla" to the Jews?

Recall that we said, "Enter this town, where you will find as many provisions as you like. Just enter the gate humbly, and treat the people nicely. We will then forgive your sins, and increase the reward for the pious."

Neither the disbelievers among the followers of the scripture, nor the idol worshipers, wish to see any blessings come down to you from your Lord. However, GOD showers His blessings upon whomever He chooses. GOD possesses infinite grace.

Neither the Jews, nor the Christians, will accept you, unless you follow their religion. Say, "GOD's guidance is the true guidance." If you acquiesce to their wishes, despite the knowledge you have received, you will find no ally or supporter to help you against GOD.

The fools among the people would say, "Why did they change the direction of their Qiblah?" Say, "To GOD belongs the east and the west; He guides whoever wills in a straight path."

We thus made you an impartial community, that you may serve as witnesses among the people, and the messenger serves as a witness among you. We changed the direction of your original Qiblah only to distinguish those among you who readily follow the messenger from those who would turn back on their heels. It was a difficult test, but not for those who are guided by GOD. GOD never puts your worship to waste. GOD is Compassionate towards the people, Most Merciful.

We have seen you turning your face about the sky. We now assign a Qiblah that is pleasing to you. Henceforth, you shall turn your face towards the Sacred Masjid. Wherever you may be, all of you shall turn your faces towards it. Those who received the previous scripture know that this is the truth from their Lord. GOD is never unaware of anything they do.

Even if you show the followers of the scripture every kind of miracle, they will not follow your Qiblah. Nor shall you follow their Qiblah. They do not even follow each others' Qiblah. If you acquiesce to their wishes, after the knowledge that has come to you, you will belong with the transgressors

            SAmia for your Eyes Only.

Psalm 956)"O come, let us worship and bow down let us kneel before the Lord our maker.",
(Joshua 1842)"And Joshua fell on his face to the Earth, and did worship...",
(I Kings 1842)"And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the Earth, and put his face between his knees.",
(Numbers 206)"...and they fell upon their faces and the Glory of the Lord appeared on them.", (Genesis 173)"And Abram fell on his face and God talked with him, saying

First let us confirm that Jews do pray and if they pray HOW? and where do they FAce while Praying?

              Comments of a JEW

Many Jews do still prostrate during prayer; we do it during a prayer we call the Great Aleinu (?Aleinu? means ?it is incumbent upon us,? and the prayer continues ??to praise the God of all??) The Aleinu is recited three times daily, in our daily prayer; the Great Aleinu, which adds passages about God?s sovereignty, is recited only on Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) and Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement.)

I?ve only been doing this prostration for the last, oh, maybe five years ? before that I was unaware of the custom. It is one of the most spiritually powerful moments of my year, especially because I?m aware that it mirrors the way our Muslim cousins pray daily.

                Bible Focus
However despite the precedent of the Temple built during King Solmon's reign, Jewish synagogues are not oriented East specifically, rather they are orientated to face Jerusalem. In an analysis of ancient Synagogues the historian J. Branham (1992) writes, ?Masada, Herodium, Gamla and Delos.. synagogues..co-existed with the Second Temple during the first century. These buildings are not, however, orientated in any unified way. While each may evince a particular expression of orientation to Jerusalem, none employs the same axis? but ?After the destruction of the Temple in 70 CE many synagogues were built with both entrances and windows facing Jerusalem.?

Daniel 610. Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.

?The Shemoneh Esrei is said while facing the direction of Eretz Yisrael. Worshippers in Eretz Yisrael face towards Jerusalem. Worshippers in Jerusalem face the Temple Mount?(it) is said with feet together (Ezekiel 17).., said quietly (1Sam 113) ..as we also relate to God as the King of Kings.. three small forward steps are taken before beginning. The idea that one ?approaches? God to pray is found several times in the Bible (Gen 1823, 1 Kings1836). Similarly one takes three steps backward at the very end..(then).. slightly bow three times from the waist.?

And those far away use as NUN DE PLUME pointed out KOSHER KOMPAS to find out direction.

SO SAMIA IF YOU AND AYMAN STILL INSIST than

Even if you show the followers of the scripture every kind of miracle, they will not follow your Qiblah. Nor shall you follow their Qiblah. They do not even follow each others' Qiblah. If you acquiesce to their wishes, after the knowledge that has come to you, you will belong with the transgressors

ITs up to You to decide.

Why was the prophet turning his face about the sky if he already had a "qibla" which was towards Jerusalem? The expression (turning your face about the sky) describes some one who is confused, not one who got his "God-assigned qibla".

i think this can be reasonably be interpreted as confusion, even if it is not what the Quran is saying here.

Confused is also a translation of the Arabic word , which I meant.

i am not saying that the Quran is talking about confusion, however looking up at the sky is a natural reaction to confusion, not to physically see God. i remember many points in my life, even as an infant, looking at the stars pondering about God and the nature of existence and reality.

i think the point is being unnecessarily laboured.

                                        salam

so far you have said very little, other than ask questions.

you could explain your understanding, or raise pertinent objections.

This is not a question of my understanding.Quranic sentence is crystal clear to explain its meaning.Look at the Verse again and again ,no ambiguity at all .

                                          Raj-ah

Why was the prophet turning his face about the sky if he already had a "qibla" which was towards Jerusalem? The expression (turning your face about the sky) describes some one who is confused, not one who got his "God-assigned qibla".

Maybe the Arabs knew where Mecca was easier than where Jerusalem was. But anyways where do you know what the first Qibla was if Jerusalem is never mentioned?
