Peace sa`adah, I dont disagree with what you said about struggling. Does it matter how many times we pray a day? Depends-if its dua(regular prayer) than no, if its a commanded communion(salat) in which we do to remember Our God and have private contact with Him, and If He gives us times to do it, then I would say, Yes its very important that we follow His will and not our own. I see that salat is to be peformed at specific times and that we are also to remember God at all times. Then, when you have finished the 'salaat', then remember God while standing and sitting and on your sides. Then, when you have become secured/safe, then maintain the 'salaat'; so the 'salaat' is decreed for the believers at specific/appointed times. (4103) I agree we should remember God at all times and trying to prohibit evil and vice is very very important. Rituals are only blind if we allow the ritual to become anything other than glorifying and remembering God. I agree, salat should be an act of awareness of activism, but I would add that it be dedicated to God Alone. Yes I agree,believers are according to their dedication and devotion. I agree, we are all different and not one nation and yes its true that God tests us. I dont think I said we shouldnt strive to do good or that we cant have different opinions of what goodness is. But since you brought it up, I believe we should strive to do Good,Especially as God describes it and not according to what we think it should mean. Some people kill in the name of what they believe is good, that doesnt make it good or acceptable to God. Yes that is true you may say what you believe, I didnt say you couldnt. But I can also say what I believe, if I am wrong may God have mercy on me and show me the right way. And if I discover I am wrong in my views, I have no problem saying I was wrong or that I now see it differently. I have said that several times to myself already since I have been on these boards. I believe my mind is open or I would still be a non practicing protestant(Christian sect) and not here seeking truth or searching Gods Message in the Quran. The beauty of islam is, there is no need to pick. I should have clarified the above, sorry. "islam" is a common Arabic word, like thousands of Arabic words. The Quran does not treat it as a special word. It's primary signification in The Quran is as a description, just like any descriptive word, e.g. soft, rough, smooth. From my studies "islam" means "submission", and it is a descriptive word describing a mindset, a way to approach life. Such a mindset transcends religions, transcends groups.... so that is why I said with islam, there is no need to choose. It is by choosing one religion over the other that may have led to your problems, when you were clearly striving for something more "I always believed in God, but was unconvinced that any religion fully grasped the nature of the Creator of the universe.". That is why your journey of choosing religions to join and your hesitancy of choosing a denomination in Islam now reminded me of the wisdom I quoted. It was meant in a positive manner (in case that was not clear), to reinforce what you had always been striving for.

Salaam all, Islam has been misinterpreted many times over - eversince time immemorial. This is evident in the Quran (Ali-Imran (3), verse 19). Yes, they do say 'Islam' is peace, but what many do not realise is the obscurity surrounding this word has fooled the people for ages and successfully turned it into a brand name for a religion (not ordained by the God). "They have taken their priests and rabbis as lords besides the God, as well as Christ the son of Mary. They were commanded not to serve, but the one God; there is no god except He, much too glorious to have partners". Q931 The above verse does not utter religion, but only to serve the God. So to me Islam is not a religion because religion is man-made. Islam is a deen, a way of life. So, I have no religion. I'm a muslim and Islam is my way of life. Wassalam

Peace to you all, I am Hafsa I am an Australian and have been attempting to practice Islam for just over two years. I came across free minds before and then put it away. Now, I am into it again and some of the stuff is just blowing my mind, although I'm not fully convinced of a lot of it (yet). I am enjoying the fresh yearning for knowledge that the questioning is giving me- I am in the Qu'ran every day again and getting up for fajr, thank Allah! I have heaps of questions. I understand the problems with hadith (well, a bit) but still find it hard to consider letting go entirely. I know our Qu'ran is clear and complete but I still have trouble figuring out how many salat from Qu'ran only and there seems to be disagreement about it here. Surely it should be clear for us? But I won't open that can of worms,I understand there is plenty of info on that topic. I feel that I just need to stick to the Qu'ran and really study it and things will come clear, God willing. I also have questions about the ka'ba etc... Happy searching ) Hafsa Peace I hope God will make it easy for you to reach the truth; Please remember when seeking God's Knowledge (the Ultimate Truth), the problem is not to find the truth, but it is when you find it clearly in the Quran but is against what you used to practice; then, you will be faced with a challenging and scarey situation; the situation that most people who are seeking God's knowledge fail to overcome; most of them will seek help from the Religious Lords (human knowledge) whom will lead them astray. Trust God's Message...it is very clear and well-established. As far as the Prayers time per day, please read 11-114, 17-78 and let me know what knowledge (God's knowledge) you will gain. Hello again friend newform, It really is a small world, isn't it? These sorts of synchronicities (i.e., my Buddhist meditation teacher having a relationship with Rashad Khalifa in everyday life) are what I take as "signs from God," and I try to open myself to what they may be trying to teach me. At this point, I feel that God is encouraging me to continue in the direction of challenging orthodoxy, which is almost always separated by degrees from a tradition's original inspiration and attainment. Tradition is enticing, but if it exists as a self-perpetuating authority structure that has the effect of barring its adherents from the original teaching, what good does it do to keep chasing after it? Thanks for the kind words regarding my blog. It's just something I do to remind myself (and hopefully others) that a positive spin is what keeps us moving down the road. Salaam, Perhaps that is exactly how you felt when you became one of those born-again Christians and also when you converted to Sunniism. It's not my place to say this and I hope you will forgive me, but I think you shouldn't do what you feel is right, but rather what you think is right. I was going to say exactly the same thing.

Salaam peace and welcome I was like just like you.. always struggled with the "Jesus is God" concept as soon as I started going to church. I love Islam because of its simplicity and its honesty... just worship One God- nothing more, nothing less. However it is tough, with different "sects" of Islam confusing others. I remember people asking me why I would convert to such a complicated religion-- and its not at all complicated. Islam means submission.. to GOD alone, there is no God but Him. sorry no aya this time too lazy... But it says througout the Quran to call your Lord morning and evening, dawn and dusk. Where is those other salat? Maria the great experience that i had through realizing that we dont need other then quran, and actaully reading it and understanding it, is the fact that there is so much in the quran that i didnt even realize was there, the great stories that are told and information giving about life and the attitudes of different people, even the information that rashad khalifa gave us, as in the computer or the code, yes we did read them at the time when we were searching the site , but it wasnt till we ourselves started understanding the meaning of the quran itself that it was confirmed in our hearts. i truely beleive the quran is a miracle in itself, and that is a spiritaul belief cause only the true faithful will experience it.
