    Salaam to all, Wherever the term 'Salat' is mentioned in Quran, it is preceded or followed by the commandments of governance or a set of rules to govern the affairs. So I see a lot of merits in the understanding of brother Hafeez Kazi to understand the term 'Salat' as Command or Commandment. However, It is to be seen whether this meaning fits in correctly at all the occurrences of 'Salat' or 'Salawat' in Al-Quran - salat - 23, 243, 245, 283, 2110, 2153, 2177, 2238, 2277, 443, 477, 4101, 4102, 4103, 4103, 4103, 4142, 4162, 56, 512, 555, 558, 591, 5106, 672, 692, 6162, 7170, 83, 835, 95, 911, 918, 954, 971, 9103, 1087, 1187, 11114, 1322, 1431, 1437, 1440, 1778, 17110, 1931, 1955, 1959, 2014, 20132, 2173, 2235, 2241, 2278, 232, 2437, 2441, 2456, 2458, 2458, 273, 2945, 2945, 3031, 314, 3117, 3333, 3518, 3529, 4238, 5813, 629, 6210, 7023, 7034, 7320, 985, 1075 salawat - 2157, 2238, 999, 2240, 239 salla - 7531, 8715, 9610, 339, 4102, tusalli - 984, yusallee - 3343, yusalloona - 3356 salli - 9103, salloo - 3356, 1082 musalleena - 7022, 7443, 1074

Respected brother, I wrote to you in the post just above your this reply regarding 'dhakir' which you ignored, I read many of your post and do sense your passion for knowledge I see in your Reply 31 above a mixed up between Slaa and dhkir, this time allow me to give you reference from the Qur?aan 4103 And when you have completed the prayer, remember Allah standing, sitting, or on your sides ....... Bit of my understanding below Requirement for Slaa you need ; Before Slaa a.) wadu / purification of bodily side b.) Clear mind free from all sorts of intoxicant so that you know what you are saying. a.) As you raise your hand to your head to start saying ALLAAHu Akbar you disconnect from world around and your face, nafs/mind focused on qibla b.) your outward/ bodily actions signify greater depth regarding signs and number of raka dealing with calculations etc, which I am praying to learn that soon insha?ALLAAH dhkir/ ALLAAH's REMEMBRANCE and His COMMEMORATION a) No requirement for wadu and as you are in the middle of mixing up with world around you, do zikr in that state ie remember your creator. b) No formal action/positions required. salaam + I have recently read a new idea I never heard which argues it not so correct to say Allahu Akbar because of some literacy technicality --this blogpost goes into detail http//teddy3indc.com/2013/07/01/do-not-say-allah-akbar/-- for those of you who are native arabic speakers is it better to say Allahu Kabiru or Allahu Takbiru?

Salam alikum! Thank you for advice. I will pray more than i do now. I love to pray. Come colser to God. I hope it to Alhamdollillah salaam+ With praising of ALLAAH also comes the proper pronunciation of the letters and words. Why do you not consider learning to read the qur'aan in Arabic if you cannot yet read it. It will help you very much. It is very easy and can take you just one week without much difficulty. Here is a link to easy lessons. The lessons will start again inshaa ALLAAH http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=9604762.msg315558#msg315558

... Without saying 'Ameen' don't Quranists feel they are far from Allah and their prayers are missing a very special thing? Frankly, I think your flawed logic is dull, and you look at things at face value ... Guided or astray, God is near to ALL human beings ( - 5016). PS I never use the traditional term "Allahumma aameen" ( &#1606 i.e. "Dear God Amen"! Rather, I often say "Allahumma Stajib" ( &#1576, i.e. "Dear God respond (to my call/supplication)" SLM

Salaam! I use the shi'a tradition of raising my hands three times while saying Allahu Akbar on each raise. Then I kiss the floor and touch my forehead to it whilst saying astaghfirullah x3 silently. Then, in congregation if leading I turn round to the people and say assalaamu alaikum warahmatullah (sometimes as we don't yet have a set tradition)

Peace Muawiya ?Maha Pemberi Rezeki? ( ) Looks like you're Indonesian too handshake Originally this is my first thread, since I registering this forum and it's ok if you want sunduls it again. But thanks to remind me about this, your explanation is good, but until know I still cannot find concept about "Imam-Makmum" in any verses in the Quran. Yes there is no regulation for what must recite in the Salat, but some surah like Fatehah and An Naas are the verses which can be used to praise Allah. This is good discussion which related to this http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=9604192.msg311373#msg311373 http//free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=15172.msg143770#msg143770

Peace. IMHO, your calling to Allah (salat) for the remembrance of Him (lidhikri) (2014), if done alone, is a private communication. It is between you and Allah. In terms of technique or bodily movement, when you call Him, to recite the ayats of Allah to make clear for you, and purify, by seeking His guidance, reach out for help from Him (245), by humbling to Him (232), is naturally yours. When we do the calling to Allah in groups on the day of congregation, probably there are certain rules to be observed. The reason is to create some kind of harmony, in terms of the tone of your voice, the arrangement and the direction set. Of course, you got to be clean and with mind clear to actualize salat. And only the name of Allah or any of His beautiful names to be called.

Peace brother, I know you don't want quotes from the Qur'an, but if one doesn't obey the laws of God, then one is not a submitted one/Muslim. A submitted/Muslim can't follow his/her own desires, if it does, then is submitted not to God, but to his/her desires. 4103 And when you have finished your prayer, remember God - standing and sitting and lying down; and when you are once again secure, observe your prayers . Verily, for all believers prayer is indeed a sacred duty linked to particular times . IN THE HOUSES which God has allowed to be raised so that His name be remembered in them, there extol His limitless glory at morn and evening - (2437) people whom neither commerce nor striving after gain can divert from the remembrance of God, and from constancy in prayer, and from charity58 who are filled with fear of the Day on which all hearts and eyes will be convulsed, (243 If my opinion helps remember, that god is the Most Merciful and the Most Forgiving, and if not doing one prayer at is right time is a sin, lets pray and ask forgiveness for this, so that maybe He will forgive us. Also, we should do our best to be of the righteous/pious, true believers, hopping this to be our only sin. For 2177True piety does not consist in turning your faces towards the east or the west - but truly pious is he who believes in God, and the Last Day; and the angels, and revelation, and the prophets; and spends his substance - however much he himself may cherish it - upon his near of kin, and the orphans, and the needy, and the wayfarer, and the beggars, and for the freeing of human beings from bondage; and is constant in prayer, and renders the purifying dues; and they who keep their promises whenever they promise, and are patient in misfortune and hardship and in time of peril it is they that have proved themselves true, and it is they, they who are conscious of God. Here in the west the work day is not set for the best for people, but for the best for the economy, this is a materialistic world not an spiritual one.

@Pixelrow I don't know who you're, I don't know where you came from. Now the word "debate" was used by people around the world. In Indonesia the world "debate" is "debat" without 'e'. Different language means different interpretation. But I believe, most people define debate as dialogue between people, groups to defending each own argument. So, I will not confusing about word debate or another language gaps, since it's off-topic in this forum. "I don't know who you're, I don't know where you came from." Why don't you just ask me - if you want to find out? I cannot answer for Indonesian - as I don't know the language . . . but meaning of debate in English - I gave from the dicitoanry. It not my definition.

1010 1010 Their saying in it is ?Be you glorified, our god!? And their greeting in it is ?Peace,? and the end of their saying is ?Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds!? 10 Their call therein will be, ?O Allah! Immaculate are You!? and their greeting therein will be, ?Peace!? and their concluding call,?All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.? (1010) in that they will call out, "Limitless art Thou in Thy glory, O God!" - and will be answered with the greeting, "Peace !"16 And their call will close with , "All praise is due to God, the Sustainer of all the worlds!" Acording to the coranic arabic corpus website dawhum means "prayer, call, cry" . I was thinking, why not imitate the example of those in heaven regarding how to end our prayer instead of the innovations that people are doing, such as ending prayer by saying ameen, like cristians and not knowing what it means. ending the prayer with the ?Tasleem".saying "Allahu Akbar" as you move to end prayer, or 70 times, etc. please tell me what you think, I would really appreciate your opinions regarding this verse 1010. Subhanakallahumma, Alhamdullilahirabillalameen in 1010 It's the example of ahl jannah's expression, told by God and how can this translate to cry in this circumstances. Thanks for the info, however, I forgot the main reason I opened this topic is not about Allahu akbar itself or 17110, but is about the two last words of 17111 Can you maybe help me on this? The problem is what's the meaning of "takbiran" in the Quran. If you say Takbiran is Allah al Akbar/AllahuAkbar/Qabiran, this means it is still a traditional teaching. There is no single order in Quran to must say "AllahuAkbar" only for glorying Him. According to 17110, you can just say "Allah", it's God name. The word "Allah" is different than Al-Ilah or Rabb, because "Allah/Elli" is the Name of Our God.So thats why English speaking Muslim say "Allahuakbar" not "God Akbar". Or you can say Ar'Rahmaan which it's meaning is more than Merciful, it's meaning is nearly of AlMighty. So for me , in Takbiran you can just say "Allah" or "Ar Rahmaan" or other Al Al Name in the Quran as you wish.

Perhaps you were thinking of 100.6 I made a mistake in my reference (forgive me). I meant 107.4-5 Some people in here are still missing my point though. Someone brought up "following the forefathers" in relation to praying 5 times, which is an evil comparison that slanders the Prophet. What we "fivers" are following is the universally accepted way that the Prophet prayed as it was taught by him and witnessed by an unbroken chain of companions, followers, and believers. So this is my bottom line The Salat was sent down and revealed along with the Book. And I think this is why salat is so intentionally without detailed description in the Qur'an. Not just the timing, but everything! Allah could easily have said something like Oh you who believe, when you perform salat, stand and read the fatiha, then bow half way, etc... But notice that the washing before the salat is described in more detail than salat itself, yet the Qur'an is complete guidance. This is strange. So to a person with any common sense, the Qur'an is forcing him to go outside the Qur'an for these details, and thereby forcing him to integrate with the community. This gives salat it's secondary function. Not only does salat connect a muslim to Allah, but also to his brothers, building unity in the faithful. I think everyone who's attended jumuah has felt this in his heart. Agreed

Sorry in advance if this has been asked. My question isn't that general though so that's the main reason I made the topic (search didn't help enough). This isn't really about hajj, but about salat. I can't shake off the feeling aiming a ritual prayer towards (and prostrating towards) the famous Kaaba in Mecca is just made-up. Even supposing this is the actual Kaaba in the Quran, Indeed, the first House established for mankind was that at Becca - blessed and a guidance for the worlds.396 Indeed, as-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah . So whoever makes Hajj to the House or performs 'umrah - there is no blame upon him for walking between them. And whoever volunteers good - then indeed, Allah is appreciative and Knowing. 2158 Becca means "narrow valley, Kabba is situated in narrow valley of Safa and Marwah, The house is established for the "Mankind" "NAAS" therefore, let say if Adam was the first man can we minus him from mankind. Therefore, Kabba is from day one. I don't think there's any command to physically pray towards it, let alone prostrate in its direction. And when We made the House a place of return for the mankind and security. And take, , from the standing place of Abraham a place of prayer. And We charged Abraham and Ishmael, , "Purify My House for those who perform Tawaf and those who are staying for worship and those who bow and prostrate ." Wa-ith jaAAalna albayta mathabatanlinnasi waamnan wattakhithoo minmaqami ibraheema musallan waAAahidnaila ibraheema wa-ismaAAeela an tahhirabaytiya litta-ifeena walAAakifeenawarrukkaAAi assujood Again the House/Kabba been described with mankind wattakhithoo = and take minmaqami ibraheema = from the standing position of Ibraheem musallan = Prayer performed Therefore, Salaat is ordained from the time of Ibraheem (pbuh), if someone need to confirm the how to pray one can see it established in Kabba, and copy that prayer/salaat. As, people are already performing prayer in same verse/ayat. And, when Abraham was tried by his Lord with commands and he fulfilled them. said, "Indeed, I will make you a Imam/leader for the people." said, "And of my descendants?" said, "My covenant does not include the wrongdoers." 2124 Allah confirms that Ibraheem (pbuh) is the Imam for Mankind. Can someone show me the verse closest to implying we should pray and prostrate towards the Kaaba (the one in Mecca)? We have certainly seen the turning of your face, toward the heaven, and We will surely turn you to a qiblah with which you will be pleased. So turn your face toward al-Masjid al-Haram. And wherever you are, turn your faces toward it . Indeed, those who have been given the Scripture well know that it is the truth from their Lord. And Allah is not unaware of what they do.2124 And from whatsoever place you come forth, turn your face towards the Sacred Mosque; and wherever you are turn your faces towards it, so that people shall have no accusation against you, except such of them as are unjust; so do not fear them, and fear Me, that I may complete My favor on you and that you may walk on the right course. 2;150 Qiblah = direction of belief Our direction of belief comes from "Masjid al Haram/kabba/the house/" therefore, when we pray we face towards Kabba. And We inspired to Moses and his brother, "Settle your people in Egypt in houses and make your houses qiblah and establish prayer and give good tidings to the believers." 1087 Peace

I also tend to think that the ritual of the salaa comes from being handed down from generation to generation. On the other hand, there are variants. Since the Qur'an has not laid it down en detailed terms, I do not think that the reitual is the important part, particularly since it may also be determined by individual needs. Some peoplemay not be able to postrate or stand or do all movements. What is important is the content of as-salaa, although the ritual may be elastic. Convenient if it is not too elastic since it is good that people everywhere can join at any time, but still the important part is that we do not forget our deep abolute ties with our Giver of existence. So the salaa and the ritual of it might be considered as the content and the container. The container may vary as long as it contains. The content must be there. Salaam

Salam Melly, One thing I find can elucidate meaning is reading the wider context. Often times you'll find patchy readings, people reading one aya and saying 'ok this is what it means' without looking at where the aya is placed. To me, nothing in the Quran is accidental. There are no passing remarks. Everything contributes to our 'reading sense' as we traverse the text even if we can't comprehend it at the time. Have a look at the context of 20/130 which I try to summarise below 20/127 God recompensing the evildoers 20/128 The generations destroyed before 20/129 If it wasn't for a kalimah preceding from Allah, they would have been destroyed.(this word 'kalimah' is VERY loaded with meaning and shouldn't be ignored here). 20/130 SO be patient with them... 20/131 and do not extend your eyes towards whats given to others 20/132 command your ppl WITH as-salaat, God gives you rizq. Why is rizq mentioned HERE for all places? In light of this context, does this seem like timings? It doesn't to me. I think we need to be very aware of context so as to detect metaphorical language at play. Notice it's 'FA asbir' (SO be patient). If God wanted to say timings, phrases like 'kullu waqt' (all the time) would be used. There are no synonyms in the Quran nor any pointless remarks. You might want to consider as well that this sura contains the story of musa for more than a hundred ayat. Musa's confrontation and victory over firaun resembles this passage all the way to the end. In light of that, what does tolu as-shams and ghurubiha seem like? I would ask these questions as I think they help clarify 20/130. This Is My Take It's Nothing Special (or TIMTINS as we say in my group in FB). I am still reading and my work isn't comprehensive by any means. wa alaykum as salam Thank you for your suggestion. I did look at the context and it appeared to me ( maybe this is not what Allah intended it to mean) that in 20130 the prophet is being told not to respond to the evil doers and instead he should do the opposite of what they are doing which is praising Allah. In surah 230 ( and when, said, your lord, to the angels, indeed I, going to place, in, the earth, a vicegerent, they said, will you place, in it, who, will spend corruption, in it, and shed, the blood, while we, glorify, with your praises, and we sanctify, you,he said , indeed I, know, what, not,you know) praising Allah is the opposite of evil doing. So in response to the people who reject the message 20124 and the ones who transgressed bounds 20127, he is told there is a term appointed 20129 therefore to be patient 20130, praise god 20130 and not long for what they have for provisions of Allah are better 20131. In my own words Allah is telling the prophet they are going get what's coming to them so don't sweat it, just praise me (Allah), and don't be envious because I (Allah) got you and my (Allah's) provisions are better then theirs. In summary, given the verses before and after 20130 and the verse 230, it still appears to me that 20130 is referring to timings. But, thank you for your reply and help as your suggestion gave me even better insight reviewing the surrounding verses.
