Salam Lena Just wondering - is praying for others a form of intercession? Doesn't God tell us in Quran that there is no intercession? Can we pray for people who are unbelievers? No it is not a form of intercession. i found a good article about this topic, please read There is an important point which is worth considering. When one prays for anyone (living or deceased) or anything else, one directs their prayer to their Creator. He is the only One that has complete authority. If a ?prayer? made to the Lord is to benefit a person, whether this prayer is made for one during their life or after it, the Lord Almighty knew this before He even created the Universe, before He put His universal master-plan into action, before he hurled the truth against the falsehood. He knew this, when there was nothing and no one except Him. He is not bound by space, time or the natural laws He Himself creates. That is simply the enormity of His Majesty, the extent of which is unfathomable to the human mind. He knew exactly, what and when and how one would pray. Whether this prayer was to be made for one during the lifetime of the deceased or after it, knowledge of the prayer was with God already. Of course, this is not to be confused with free will or volition (which is often a common mistake). Humans have been granted free will and they make their choices independently, but the knowledge of those choices are already with God. In other words, these choices were not made for us, we made them, He just knew of them. Whether another soul is to benefit from our prayer or not, we can certainly benefit our souls if we ask for good and mercy for another soul with sincerity. Ultimately, it is for God to decide for we have no knowledge of His plan other than what He informs us. The Quran does provide evidence of support for a prayer 'for the dead' albeit through a negative context. Quranic narratives capture a situation where prayer for the dead is not feasible and for this a specific context is imparted. Through logical deduction of the narrative, it is clear that prayer for the dead as a practice of choice is not prohibited per se. However, prayer for the dead in a particular context certainly is. all the article you found here http//quransmessage.com/articles/praying%20for%20and%20praying%20through%20FM3.htm Salams peace

Peace brother Hawk, This means what I wrote is correct! How do you found it wrong? mmKhan because you 'do something IN' a routine, you don't do routine, or you routinely do something. You can't say go do a routine without specifying what to do in the routine. if that makes sense peace

Salaam Not sure of many of your deductions since many do not seem to understand 'muhammad' and one misunderstanding of a word can lead to a host of misunderstandings. Joe And what DOES it mean, Joe? ???

peace good logic, all, Unfortunately a common misperception is that any "ritual" is bad, if it happens to be labelled a "ritual". Here is the dictionary definition of "ritual" The word "ritual" is commonly associated with (1) and (2) above, however it can also mean (3) which is without religious connotation. This is important, because for example, brushing one's teeth every night before bed can be classed as a "ritual". Is such a ritual wrong? Are all rituals wrong, no matter the ritual? To me, clearly not. For me, the key is whether this "ritual" has a benefit, ideally a tangible/empirical/practical/logical benefit. bravo Using the above, we can differentiate. For example, if a religious ritual is not based on reason/evidence and/or does not result in the stated benefit, then there is likely something wrong. In such a situation, one must ponder over such a "ritual" to determine if one has a correct understanding and/or application of it.

I can definitely understand not wanting to do something that is not permissible or mentioned in the Qu'ran...isn't that how most sects got into the mess they are in now...accepting practices that weren't originally from God? Yes naturally, we don't want to do things that are not permissible by the quran. But what are those things? Are there restrictions on what things we can 'say'? The only things I can think of would be giving undue praise to like dead people and such. But the word 'ameen' is just a word that emphasizes that one really wants that which was expressed in the prayer. Things are getting tricky when we say we don't want to do things which are not in the quran. It depends totally what we mean by that. I also agree that sects (sub-sects of religions), and religions overall (which are in reality sects of humanity) did indeed arise due to that different practices where formalized and institutionalized. But to say that we should not use the word 'ameen' just because it is not in the quran may not be very consistent with reality. We must decide what occasions we are talking about. If we think that we are supposed to recite x number of ayats from the quran in our prayers, then I guess we should not use 'ameen', but we also have to make sure we aren't using any other things that are not written in the quran then, for consistency. It all depends on how one defines and understands 'salaat'. As far as 'dua' in concerned, of course it is totally ok to use 'ameen'... depending on your understanding of the word and why you use it. But to discourage the use of it solely on the basis that it is found in jewish sources, that is to me just the same old sectish style of labeling things as 'theirs' or 'ours', which leads to separation and sects. So the bottom line about 'ameen' actually has everything to do with 'salaat'. First we need to gain an understanding about what 'salaat' is, and then we see if 'ameen' fits in somewhere or not. Peace to all

In a seated position? Sure! If you have an illness etc that hinders your chances.... We can do salat while riding in some situations (which is technically seating)... The purpose of salat is to Remember/contact God (2014).... We can do Salat while walking, riding, standing, bowing..... that does not change its purpose of remembering/contacting God... As for hand position during supplication (dua), there is a position cited in the Quran "To Him alone is the supplication of truth. And those they call upon besides Him do not respond to them except as one who stretches his hands toward water to reach his mouth, but it will not reach it . And the supplication of the disbelievers is but in vain . I meant what specifically is the "time given for the noon prayer" and "time given for isha". Well, I just go with the times that are given for the daily prayers. For instance, right now dhuhr begins at 125 in the afternoon, and isha begins a little after 900 P.M.

Peace. Here's what Ayman wrote back in 2004 We should not make things forbidden that The God did not forbid. The God NEVER says that reading the great reading silently or "salat" silently is "mo7arama"/forbidden. When the context from the sign in 17106-111 is taken into account, then things can be easily understood. 17106 clearly talks about reading on PEOPLE. 17107-109 start with an order to "say" (to PEOPLE). 17110 also starts with "say" (to PEOPLE) so like the signs before it there are other PEOPLE involved. 17111 also starts with "say" (to PEOPLE) When one looks at the whole context and not just pick one verse, it becomes abundantly clear that the context is learning/"salat" with other people present that we SAY the message to. Moreover, the signs provide a clear link between the command in 17106 to READ to others "3ala mukuth" and the implementation of that command through the learning process in 17110 with the moderate voice. I think what it comes to is that when you have a group study/discussion about the reading or giving a lecture you shouldn't be screaming, like some sheikh on an islamic program on tv. Nor should you be whispering when you have an audience. So choose a tone in between. Make your voice audible and clear, but do not raise your voice and sound like a donkey. Sounds like good advice. Abdelilah

Selam When you (O Messenger Muhammad ) are among them, and lead them in As-Salat (the prayer), let one party of them stand up with you taking their arms with them; when they finish their prostrations, let them take their positions in the rear and let the other party come up which has not yet prayed, and let them pray with you taking all the precautions and bearing arms. Those who disbelieve wish, if you were negligent of your arms and your baggage, to attack you in a single rush, but there is no sin on you if you put away your arms because of the inconvenience of rain or because you are ill, but take every precaution for yourselves. Verily, Allah has prepared a humiliating torment for the disbelievers. handshake Before, I didn't think that you do lead prayer. I thought that prayer acordjng to Quran alone is individual, not a group. Thanks Can sallee be done alone according to the quran? is there such an example in the quran? confused

Qur'an seems to be merely repeating some Jewish and even Xtian practices... Jews pray 3 times a day (some evidence in written Torah) and Yom Kippur 5 times. Maybe Islam wanted to outplay the Jews so decided to pray 5 times every day to show they can be better?

Why??? What's the use / benefit of people praying at the same time saying/wishing exactly the same thing? What's the objective of praying?? 'Standardization of Prayer' doesn't the term sounds ridiculous to you? Perhaps there's 'something wrong' on your hypothesis at the foundational level.. Change the 'foundation' and you can build a better new house for yourselves.. The best verses ever on Praying... really explains everything.. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them! for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. This, then, is how you should pray Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. your kingdom come, let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven Source Matthew 6 "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death," he said to them. "Stay here and keep watch." Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him. And he said, ?Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.? Source Mark 14 Salam / Peace I think we all should save this post of yours .........Its that good. bravo But would point out the ayah 262, that applies to all people irrespective of what they do as long as it isn't shirk or they are not Zalimeen. Thank you.

Thanks, I'm glad to join this forum I have another question. The quran says And establish prayer and give zakah and bow with those who bow . Bowing is not mentioned in the site's main Salat article. Or is it because this verse is only directed at the children of Israel? You are welcome. 243 says And straighten Salaat and give Zakaat and bow with those who bow. Please note "and" between Salaat, Zakaat and Ruku. Ruku is not included in Salaat as you can see Zakaat in between Salaat and Ruku in 243. And it is directed to all. May Allah increase us in knowledge and guide us to His true path pr mmKhan
