Salaam, Alen I think you are better served having different tranlations. NO translation is going to do what you think it should do without killing the text and its possibilities. We know of course certain tendencies of certain translators. It is better to know their tendencies and make allowance for them than to be sure that we have a fail safe translation, because we CANNOT have that and not because the translator is not honest or faithful or talented, even genius. The origianal has many potentialities which no translation is going to give. You would have to read unending footnotes and books of commentaries to go over every single opening of the text. We look at the Quran minutely, as we look to no other text. So if we are going to discuss its contents we do not want to find ourselves with discussing something that may make sense in the language it is translated to, but which would not hold for the Arabic. I think that what we do here which is go over it and discuss is much better than having the false confidence of reading the "final" or the "ultimate" translation. Also, I know how difficult it is, but learning Arabic should be something that Muslims might contemplate at all events. I know very knowledgeable Muslim persons and also speritually awakened that do not know Arabic, so this should not be a dismissing factor, but the more people know Arabic the better helped ts and all the rest. Peace alen. Quran is an Arabic book. The Arabic of the Quran has so much detail, so much poetry, so much blunt force as a language, that any attempt to translate the Quran does not work. You will have to learn Arabic. Let me give you a few examples. The word you chose, Rabb, is neither sir nor master, the closest english word is Lord. For example, Rabb al Alameen, Lord of the worlds. Using sir or master wont work, sir of the worlds? master of the worlds? Another point is that the Arabic words have multiple contexts, for example Asmaa, means heavens and sky, there is a spiritual heaven and a literal sky, both meanings are included in Asmaa. The next point is there is poetry in the Quran, for example Bismillah alrahman alraheem Malik yowm aldeen Iyyaka Nabudu, Iyyaku nastaeen Ehd nasiraat almustaqeen The poety of the Quran gets destroyed in translation. Then there is the issue of approximate meanings, Malik is translated to mean King, however it is closer to Posessor. The English words are not a correct substitute. This is why I repeatedly emphasize there is no substitute for Arabic, if your purpose is to reach a very deep understanding of the Quran. And We have made the Quran easy in your tongue.

Salam, As to my understanding, I believe that covering from your bosom down to your knees is the minimum requirement for women. 3355 The women commit no error by dressing comfortably in the presence of their fathers, their sons, their brothers, the sons of their brothers, the sons of their sisters, the women and their servants. 3359 O you prophet, tell your wives and your daughters, and the believing women to lengthern their garments. Thus, they will be recognised and will not be insulted. As this verse explains...'they will be recognised' is the community in each country. People are recognised by their garments. Indians by their sari for example. BUT, wearing sari is only possible for women in India or whomever comfortable with it. For me, as an Indian, I do not fancy the 5 metre long material as it is not comfortable. I am more comfortable with western style that is a blouse which goes with a skirt or a pants. So, it should be our Rights to wear what we are comfortable with. 726 O children of Adam, we have sent down to you garments to cover your bodies, and to serve as luxury. The garments of righteousness is the best. The word 'bodies' will again refer to our private parts mainly but since its on our bodies, so the best is to cover from bosom down to our knees. Haseena

Peace I also believe that make up isn't prohibited and is a matter of choice but what about cosmetic surgery? People can change their apperance completely with this- and it cannot be erased like make-up can? Isn't this "correcting" Allah's work? peace Peace, Respectfully. It all depends what kind of surgery are we talking about. There are several people who have, what is known as rabbit-lip. This sort of thing needs to be "corrected" by surgery and not to please others or to gain points with anybody but simply to fix a mistake done by humans. As we know, no one is born with a rabbit-lip but if someone is born with this or that disorder or malfunction, it is due to the human's cause. Example if parents smoke bvefore child's conception and even during pregnancy and even after the child is born, then this little child will gorw with weak lungs, correct? I agree, make up does not fall into this category, make up is simply to attract the attention and on many occasions people are misinformed by the make up some men think that women who use "too much" make up, are actaully inviting them for an intimate thing. I think the eyeliner has one good thing about the attentionYou really, REALLY listen to a woman. Because of the eyeliner, you really, really watch her eyes and therefore listen to her words. Tattoos don't hurt anyone, so they aren't wrong. There are no negative effects of getting a tattoo. In fact, it's a way of expressing yourself (which is good), and it's an industry which lets people earn a living (which is also good). So getting a tattoo is a harmless personal decision. I personally wouldn't get one because I don't want to stain my body for life and I might end up regretting it later. I might get a small one if I find words or a picture that means enough to me.
