The danger is that if you take Biblical and Koranic stories literally they sound bizzare and banal and you miss out on the spiritual messages of these stories which affects our soul... Well i always took all of the Quranic passages as literal except ehen it is stated that the following is an allegory and to tell you the truth i found nothing bizarre or banal about any of them. As for the Bible yes there you are right. It focuses more on the names of people, wealth, harlots, giving God man like motions and emotions, pornographic elements, widespread contradictions and many other absurdities. You cant hear the message of GOD Alone while reading the Bible which you do at every instant in Quran. GOD Bless!

It is possible to have a benevolent oligarchy/dictatorship. Yes, Plato also wrote about Benevolent Dictatorship 2000 years ago, when he envisages societies ruled by "Philosopher-Kings" in his work "The Republic". I like the idea of being ruled by "Philosopher-Kings" but I also think this type society will stagnate easily since there will be no influx of new blood and talent in the government... It is possible to have a perfect democracy. I reserve my judgement on that -) I prefer to see democracy as flawed as human beings are flawed. Perhaps it's very imperfections makes democracy little bit more appealing, just as we find little imperfections in others just as interesting... -) It is even possible to have an enjoyable anarchy! (granted, this requires all participants to have perfect responsibility and self-control). Peace Hasan, all, And I have tried to explain that the "zeenat" in 2432 has to be only jewelry; otherwise indecency (faahesha) is imposed onto Islam. I would like to clarify an important point, which can create a misunderstanding as in the above quote. I never implied that a woman HAS to expose her physical beauty to all the mentioned categories of people in 2432. That indeed would be fahishatun (indecency). All I said was that "zeenat" of a woman includes her physical beauty too. The God just gives a general permission for a woman to expose her zeenat to some specific categories of people. The God does not mention the details of that zeenat and therefore leaves it up to the woman and her modesty to determine what part of her zeenat to expose to whom. Hope that clarifies things.

From my experience (I'm Indonesian) democracy per se does not provoke religious/ethnic conflicts. When the Suharto dictatorship fell in May 1998, many hidden conflicts suppressed by his authority cam into view. The resulting conflicts (Ambon , West Kalimantan , Poso ) erupt because of the loss of control, and provocation by outsiders. Proper democracy were also beginning at the same time, but I don't see how the two were interlinked in a causal relationship. I tend to see both (rise of democracy and conflict) as a consequence of a shake-up in the authority structure. The analysis is flawed in ignoring the exact state of authority at the time conflicts start in each country. It also ignores the fact that dictatorships sometimes suppress religious/ethnic tensions by coercive means, which do not erase the tension but merely built the potential for future outbursts. Though i mainly agree with most of your observatiuons i dont see them as pointing to or discovering the flaws in the article. Peace, I think the ablution is kind of ritualistic, or maybe people only do it in a ritualistic manner. People also make it ritualistic to say things before they eat. When people greet each other they attribute a ritual of saying 'salam' to each other to the koran. I think they miss the point, 'good day' is a good greeting and nothing wrong with peace. It is always assumed that there is a certain level of arabic within the forum, maybe thats appropriate to assume. Timing of 'salat', wouldn't you say that is ritualistic? not being flexible and abiding by this rule? Apart from the above I can't think of many other things, maybe its just the people that make it seem ritualistic and create these rituals. This seems true because when I study the reading I don't see things to be very ritualistic. I guess all the things I mentioned are not the Creator's way rather the humans way. Nural

Peace be upon you Natu, I still have a question though. God says we can call him by any name we wish. What about if I call him "Murphy"? Since thats a human's name isn't it. What names could we call him other than those attributes given to him in the reading? Excellent question, and the answer is that we do not call the God by "names" but by DESCRIPTIONS/ATTRIBUTES, the BEST descriptions/attributes. The Most High, The ALL Knowing, The Most Merciful, etc. When we make up names for the God, we are off the path. The God is above "names", above defining by words. Even the attributes cannot encompass him, but that is the closet we can get on this level. This low level of names is where there are DEFINITIONS, which seperate the WHOLE into parts.

peace Roshan, I was referring to the money invested, not what the person would do with the money gained. I see spread betting differently to investing in a company. I see nothing wrong with the latter, apart from general considerations, i.e. ethical company etc. Wakas
