Dear All, Peace be to all, Couple of ponits to point out my understanding of Quran. First off all it was down in Arabic coz it was sent to the Aarbs, I'm sure all would agree to Allah belongs all the languages Right? Then lets see what Allah says about understanding for quran. Its the word of God. Therefore everything that is written is from the Lord of the Universe. If we follow anything else we will not understand Quran. 3)There are no contradictions in Quran. Soo while reading or translating it we need to make sure that we do not contracdict what has been said before or after. While reading it we need to give it the best meaning. (we all know one word no matter in whichever language can have multiple meanings. Therefore give it the best meaning. And lastly, I would rewuest people to read 37 again, and see what Allah says. *All the above criterion is from Quran itself. Hope this could be of some help. Peace to All.

Peace "angel", yes, to the best of my abilities. But that may be the problem, in my Sunni days whenever I read the Quran which was contaminated with loads of ahadith I found it more ?interesting? probably coz it was like a fairytale that I believed was true at that time. This rational approach is boring because it?s ?common sense?, as if I need to be told the difference between right or wrong! I already know. England is IMO very similar to a Quranic state, creating paradise on earth via betterment of society, leading a righteous life, not violating human rights, fighting injustice, progressing in science are common sense, we don?t need a book to tell us that, we implement it anyway. JK- Well if you follow and understand all these laws then good for you. Everyone doesnt and it is not common sense the way you state it. Laws can be very complex and it takes time for people to get there. Its like anyone can ultimtely through one way or another derive the circle's circumference/diameter constant "pi" over time but if told the right methods by other whor already experieced in mathemtics it becomes much more easy for others to comprehend how and do it themselves. Also the Quran still has statements which we dont yet fully understand like there being seven heavens, certain info which could be relating to wormholes, the dangers of male homosexuality(discussed heavily by others and myself on this very forum), angels/forces of nature experiecen a period the measure of which is 50000 years possibly relative to us and quite a number of other things. GOD Bless!

Peace Weinmar, To add to the excellent replies thus far, I would say you need some perspective. You need to come to your own understanding of the framework of life. Too often I've seen people get caught up in the details with no idea of where to plug them in once they've been understood. I've been guilty of this as well. As they say, you cannot see the forest from the trees. You need to take a step back and formulate your "big picture". Start with the basics and build from there. Regarding messengers and their timing, I believe they were exceptional human beings in the sense that they could keep tuned in to God's station on a very consistent basis. Thus they were able to compile pages upon pages of guidance. But this does not mean that you or I or anyone else is cut off from receiving the guidance. On the contrary, the guidance is in a constant flow. Imagine a radio frequency broadcasting a signal. All we need to do is turn the knob to the right frequency and we can hear it crystal clear. But we need to find a good spot with no interference and no peripheral noise first Peace, Tay

Peace, I think where homosexuality presents as a cause for such depression and contemplation then one must see it as being like a disability. Someone who has had an amputation of their leg doesn't just settle for sitting on a couch or bed all their lives. They seek help and become mobile again through prostheses or a wheelchair etc. The person with visual impairment due to refractive errors and can't see well doesn't just accept it, but seeks glasses or contact lenses in order to see. In this context if homosexuality is proving a disability and impairment then one must seek the solution for it. I think the first step is to avoid the actions which contribute to the problem and guilt. A drug user can never become unimpaired if they continue to shoot drugs. Once the behaviour has stopped then other measures may be contemplated.

I don't get what you mean by that qouted statement. Either way, "Allah" have mercy upon Himself for making such a statement? No problem, phoenix1, let me summarize the statement I made above by the following points people are deaf, dumb and blind minds that cannot understand, eyes that cannot vision and ears that cannot listen. Man is made perfect only intelligent people can understand only Allah knows best clear revelation with "proofs" that only a wicked will reject. verify all information remember and recall events of the bygone millenniums do not follow something you have no knowledge of Arabic is the perfect unambiguous language for its final revelation and religion must believe in everything, obey all commands and fear HIM or get instilled with terror, trauma and torture, for HE's the most jolly-good fellow (most merciful, most gracious). Equating and analyzing the scenarios presented above, as per the Quran, the proclamation of interpreting and understanding parts of its haphazard compilation, to begin with, becomes unreliable and senseless. Edited and revised.

Salaam, Yes that was me. I joined that forum sometime in fall '03 I think. I was having a lot of doubts when I joined FF and I really did schism from Islam for at least a good year. I felt the same way as I did when I left christianity...hurt and disappointed. However, at least I can read the bible in english and still see it for what it is. The Quran is different...even though I was angry, I still had no clue if what I was doing was right. I wrote a lot of stuff on that board that I highly regret writing. Do forgive, I was very young when I wrote it, hardly 21 yet and I was really angry at life, parents, the fact that I felt like I'd be studying forever wwith no real answers, etc. So, I am not on free-minds trying to make anyone leave Islam by asking all sorts of questions... I am really still trying to figure out a lot of stuff and I need to ask those questions to see if this is what I really believe. I just wish I had some certainty -[

Peace S2S I do not claim that I have read all the tafsirs, but the few I read did not take this erronic meaning. In fact, the Arabic version says , a normal Arabic expression Tafseer Ar-raazi a.Waters of the west seas is hot, so the sun looks as if itis setting in hot waters; b. according to Algiba'i, the waters were dark and it looked murky. Alkashaf Same thing. Both tafseers discuss whether it was "murky" water or "hot" water, nothing about the setting per se. I could not see explicit understanding of (in (aka inside) murky waters ) except in Altabary quoting Ka3b (Ala7baar) who said You know Qur'aan better than me, but I see in the book (torah) that it sets in black mud!!! So, this distorted understanding comes from Ka3b, quoted in Altabary!!! Talk about Israeliyyaat!!

Peace Simple And as many here say - All truth is from God and is dispensed to you me and everybody else always and no body can stop/prevent it , and sorry you guys the quran didn't get the stop which we are told it did. I don't think anyone ever said that there is no knowledge after the quran. That would be absurd because the quran is not meant to be taken as an encyclopedia. However, the quran does have the final say on how we should lead our lives, and no human can conjure up a better, straighter path for us to follow. Also, I would like to know what are the outdated laws and information you find in the quran? As for mistranslation, this is not the fault of the quran or God. This is the fault of those who choose to comment on things they have no knowledge of, or think they have knowledge of when in fact they are far away from the truth. A translation, be it an accurate or inaccurate one, is in effect an innovation made by man. The quran has never changed and will never change. .There is even so much mistranslation and misdirection people are lost in idolatory - i think. I agree with you there. Many people have stopped using their own intellect to reach the Truth and have relied on mullahs, sheikhs, and even articles on various websites to supply for them what they should do, say and think. Again that's also not the fault of the quran, not the fault of authors of ijtihad, but the fault of those who choose to be passive in their lives and spoon-fed. Peace All

peace Ahmed, i didn't say it was established globally, but on this forum. It was pretty much decided that although the quran has not been preserved exactly, word for word, letter for letter, it's message has remained virtually unchanged. anyway, take a look at this thread http//www.free-minds.org/forum/index.php?topic=5802.0

Peace Elke, Quran is still my reference, but the accent is on God alone. You took the words out of my mouth! so many people, most of them sincere believers in quran, but still so many different views based on valid argumentation on both (or more) sides... its mostly a matter of how one decides to look at things. But may be this is just what God intended (cant be different...) - free will! Very well said sister. Peace, Tay
